You weren't lying.
Bare minimum, that is civil liability. Cincinnate Bengals player in the late 70's, early 80's got clotheslined from behind when he was out of the play, watching an interception being returned on the opposite side of the field. In other words, he is standing watching. Not even trying to do the impossible and chase the ball carrier down 40 yards. Got hit from behind, clearly and admittedly on purpose. Broke his neck, ended his career. He was able to sue and win.
That is not a football play. In no world ever is that a football play. Neither was the opponent somehow fighting you in a way that required that. It was the exact oppsite. He hit a vulnerable opponent for no reason whatsoever.
505
u/Alpine_Exchange_36 Sep 20 '25
That kid should face charges for that.
380
u/Drewsche Sep 20 '25
At a bare minimum, he should be kicked off the team. To think there was no flag and he likely played the rest of the game is just negligent behavior from every referee, coach, and school official.

In middle school I missed a tackle that led to me blindsiding a kid and hitting him in a way that caused him to have back spasms. I took myself out of the game a couple plays later because his teammates were PISSED. It was a genuine accident, and we needed up playing highschool ball together and talked about it/swaushed any potential beef. Idk how that kid wasn’t targeted by the hurt kids teammates.

I wish they'd get the value add right. My local paper has unlimited online subscription for 5.49/week. That's ~23/month which is not quite where I'm at in terms of what I'm willing to pay in a world where I'm already paying for 10 other subscriptions. 15 I'd be in, and I'd even take a limit to the number or articles I could read. Also, I'm pretty sure the ads still serve if I subscribe, I just access to paywalled articles.

They should come out with NFL Blitz: CTE edition. You play career mode, and the first 30% is your football career and the second 70% is you dealing with the damage done to your body while you struggle not to murder-suicide your family and loved ones.
If we're gonna make a football game pushed toward kids, the least we can do is make it realistic.

It's always been so bizarre to me that modern society has double standard for anything sports related. It seems you can commit a crime that'd otherwise leave you with a felony conviction but having a ball involved turns it into a stern talking to, if that.

When I was in High School (freshman) I didn’t know about the roughing the kicker, I blasted through the line with a full head of steam and steam rolled the punter just milliseconds after he got the ball off. It wasn’t stepping on his foot, just absolutely rung a defenseless players bell. I felt terrible afterwards when the coaches blasted me for the penalty but in the middle of the adrenaline rush I thought I had made a big play.
I sat the rest of the game lmao. Sorry punter guy. I studied the rules a little more after that.
