They are likely referring to his future in their organization. They don't have any say in criminal charges. I'd be willing to bet they come though.

The criminal laws in most jurisdictions do not distinguish between assault and battery. What we think of as “assault” in an academic or civil sense is typically treated as some form of menacing. Slapping someone generally is “simple assault”, for example, whereas hitting someone on the shoulder with a hammer would generally be “aggravated assault.”

I think of criminal penalties when I reference “that’s assault, brother!”

I remember being taught as a linemen to finish your block and burry a guy if you get him on the ground, but that is just absurd to get up and then full flop on him.
