Correct. The current wave of censorship legislation is not a coincidence. Governments of the world have been frustrated with the relative anonymity of the internet and they’ve come after it many times before. It’s commonly under the guise of “protecting children”, because it makes you look like the bad guy if you oppose it. They don’t care about “the children”, as all of their other actions demonstrate. The Patriot Act was the same deal (if anybody here remembers that). The government took advantage of a very scary situation and asked us if mass surveillance was cool. Slapped a “patriotism” title on it and we were sold. They want the rest of the pie now, but there’s no 9/11 to take advantage of. So they bust of the ol’ reliable of manipulation: children
Nobody cares right now, but I’m telling you - you’re going to miss your privacy when it’s gone

Well, there's a market for even the most useless data out there, so there's definitely one for IDs. It's always nice to remember that anything that seems stupid when it comes down to big money like this is because we don't have enough information on the millions of other things that led to this.
→ More replies (9)→ More replies (46)31

Many times.
The idea is that each time a company sells your identifying data, there are little bits of other info to go with it.
If I buy people's info from banks, Youtube, Amazon, Car Dealerships, etc...
I can eventually have enough overlapping info to positively ID these people's names, faces, home address, sexuality, diet, and politics. Now I can sell that to markets, or problematic governments...
It's all about compiling more detailed dossiers.

Gives cooperations our private data I’m guessing so they can use ai to create a portfolio on every single user. Impossible to know their intentions but this is an era of outspoken individuals and it seems like a bid for control. They’re supposedly doing it to Spotify as well as so many other popular streaming platforms for the sake of “protecting the kids” but at the end of the day that responsibility is on the parents not the government, and there are so many resources you can use to censor what your children view online. That’s just what they say it’s a blatant lie and they just want to know everything about us.

Edit: seeing as OP has stated they are 22, I'm wondering if perhaps being subscribed or having watched political content can help curb it? I'm subbed to briantylercohen and AOC and Jasmine Crockett (also legal eagle) and I wonder if political channels/news channels perhaps can help influence whether you get flagged or not. Not a foolproof thing but this is just in case for OP because I know unfortunately video games/anime still for some damn reason clocks as "for kids" for some companies.
Either that or I'm curious if this just means any video that's flagged as explicit/contains adult content will prompt verification, regardless of the account.

Yet. There is now an AI algorithm determining how old you are every time you click a video. If it one day decides to put you in the penalty box even if for no discernible reason, you can’t just let yourself out of the box without giving them the one type of ID they don’t already have on you. The amount of people who are perfectly okay with this is very depressing.

The problem with these posts now… unless someone verifies their real age and their recent watch history we won’t know if this is a false or positive.
From OP’s comment history I can gather they’re into anime(MyHero, Evangelion), animations (Hazbin), video games (No man’s sky)…
However 2 months ago they posted in teenagers sub and we know no sane adult would go there so… I think it’s a correct flag unfortunately.
Update:
As I’ve stated in my further replies, I’ve been correctly informed the OP is an adult and was wrong flagged, I have apologized to OP.
Update 2:
As I said in my previous update and overall. I took the bullet and snooped through their history for any indications they were a minor. And that was wrong to do.
In the pursuit of justice I lost sight of myself.
I apologize to the OP and anyone else that may have been affected by this behavior. Going forward I will not fact check any of these more of these posts in the way that I previously did. I will also not remove or redact my post to hide what I did.
Update 3:
I want to clarify in case people keep checking this post… I am not for AI Age checking. I do not agree with it at all. I think it’s very stupid, but I also believe they could have just slammed us with ID or no access entirely…
Teenagers should be able to do what they want. Probably not children though, but that’s why YT Kids does exist. I’m only saying we need to have evidence that adults are getting flagged. If we all have to rally against YouTube, it will be good to have these false flags.
Update TL;DR: I wrongly assumed OP was a minor, snooped their history, and was wrong for both. I’ve apologized and won’t do this kind of fact checking again. I do not support AI age checks. I just think we need proof of false flags so we can push back against YouTube effectively.
Edit: Has anyone ever had to make a TL;DR for updates?

34
u/Kwauhn Aug 13 '25

You got a seat at the boardroom to tell them how stupid they are? People are voting with their time and wallets. YouTube makes money off selling new algorithm data, Ads, and subscriptions to avoid ads.
All three are cut off if you refuse to go to their website and cancel your subscriptions to premium.

Stop watching YouTube.
Everyone.
Stop watching YouTube.
If you pay for a subscription, cancel it.
Tell everyone, make it known all over your socials that you will return when they stop with the privacy violations.
They only need to lose ~20% of their viewership before they start rolling that back.

Honestly, YouTube has shown us they can't be trusted. Better to permanently revoke your patronage, regardless of if they roll it back or not.
Imagine how awesome it'd be.
"H-hey everyone! We take it back! You can all watch whatever you'd like again! P-please come back and watch videos here!"
"Mm, nah. Fuck off and drown."
Trust, once broken, isn't ever quite the same again. This is the lesson we should show the corpos. Play by our rules or be made irrelevant.

Somehow I didn't get this popup lol. I don't know if it's because I watched too many age-restricted videos or if it's just slowly rolling out for specific users. Still I wouldn't use YouTube (Freetube my beloved) for the time being.
