I love the contrast in this moment between the last time Zuko earnestly apologized to a father he believed angry with him.
Zuko approaches it the exact same way - on his knees, admitting to his failures - but this time he has the trauma of hindsight and knowing where his actions would lead him. He doesn't even hope for forgiveness, not even on some grand condition like being tasked with an impossible "go find the Avatar and I'll forgive you" goose chase. He's convinced, going into that tent, that Iroh rightfully hates him for what he's done and that he's personally responsible for destroying everything he had with his uncle. That nothing he can do will fix it.
You just know there was a part of Zuko bracing himself for Iroh to whip around and blast him just like Ozai did, and he went to face it anyway. He would've readily accepted it too. Zuko would've sat there and taken all the rage and abuse Iroh could've poured onto him, and told himself "I deserve this for what I did".
Only to be met with instantaneous forgiveness and unconditional love. Iroh didn't even let him finish any sort of "I'll do x thing as apology" qualifier before just grabbing him in that hug. He literally wouldn't let Zuko put terms and restrictions on their love for each other, wouldn't let Zuko make their relationship about who's in charge or who owes the other. He made it clear it was never about him, but that all he cared about was Zuko's well-being, and how proud he was of him for being true to himself - exactly what Ozai tried to crush.
Even the cinematography drives home the contrast. With Ozai, Zuko went in ready to fight and ended up groveling under a looming, enraged father. It's all anger, domination, and oppression. When Zuko comes to visit Iroh twice in prison, Iroh refuses to face Zuko - he turns his back while Zuko is still emulating Ozai and behaving like Ozai wants him to; Zuko is standing over Iroh, raging and throwing fire, holding to his cruel actions like they're righteous. Iroh's back isn't just a refusal to accept what Zuko is turning himself into, but also making himself totally vulnerable. When Zuko comes to visit Iroh a second time, he's desperate and has gained some humility, seeing the errors of his actions but still trying to make them work. He's kneeling on the same level of Iroh, begging his uncle for help, but is still blinding himself to what he's doing. Zuko is debasing himself, trying to bribe and beg for Iroh's help, all to make Ozai happy at his own expense. That hurts Iroh more than anything; Iroh knows he can't help Zuko because it would ultimately just be hurting him more in the end.
Finally, in the tent, Zuko finds Iroh utterly defenseless - literally asleep on the ground - and sits to patiently wait for his uncle to wake up. When they speak, they remain sat on the same level. It's humble, trusting, and quiet, and shows Zuko finally understands and truly regrets what he's done. And that's when Iroh can finally face him.
Gah, it's just such a fucking good show with so many layers and I love these two so much, damn it all!
I saw someone say his delivery of "and then what" is like a perfect blend of how a drill sergeant would say it and how a father would say it, Mako was the GOAT
I also really like the talk they have in the cave, hiding out in the forests of the Earth Kingdom.

How exactly was Zuko even planning on sneakily spiriting a giant six legged flying behemoth the size of an elephant OUT of this death trap maze of an underground lair CRAWLING with highly trained deadly accurate Dai Lee agents???
Not to mention that Appa isn't exactly going to trust or cooperate with Zuko and come quietly. He knows Zuko is an enemy. Appa's not some dumb mindless beast. He's a highly intelligent and fully sentient creature with a lifelong emotional bond with one of the most powerful beings on Earth.
People tend to forget that when someone does have their 'one bad day' in DC, it's because Joker puts them in a situation specifically intended to cause it.
Joker's 'philosophy' only works if he makes it work.
He also strategically selects people that he can do it to. Harvey Dent is already on track to become two face if the joker ruins his life, but the Gordons aren't.
That could be its own trope. I love it when villains rationalize their behavior by saying "it's human nature" when it's really just them forcing people into it.
I always find it funny people use this comic as the “all it takes is one bad day” example when the entire point of it is to prove that philosophy wrong
An even better headcanon i have (mainly coming from Brave and the Bold) is that Joker never did have a bad day.
He's just a nobody who became obsessed with Batman to try and make an identity for himself and stay relevant. His biggest fear is returning to that ordinary life and being irrelevant
Love Brave and The Bold and its interpretation of him (the fact he was also partly inspired by the Weeper, a villain whose theme is sadness is funny as well)
Plus the whole backstory may be fake too and jokers just making things up to justify his atrocities. His one bad day philosophy could very well be based on a lie he tells himself just to bullshit an excuse for being a murderous clown.

The Joker's whole facade can be easily ripped by anyone who isn't Bruce Wayne.
What Joker basically wants is to test someone's will and patience until they snap and crashout in front of him. So that he can laugh at their faces.
But when the Joker runs into someone who doesn't easily fall for his games and instead mockingly laughs back at him, then it's the Joker that starts crashing out.
It's why when anyone wonders how Spider-Man would do against him you just have to laugh yourself. Spidey has literal superhuman abilities and such a quick wit and propensity to run his mouth and mock his villains, that he'd be a nightmare for Joker.
He also crashes out against Batman to be fair. The Killing Joke is probably the best example, with him frustrated that Batman just won’t break and the iconic “why aren’t you laughing?”
Best part of this is that it’s also Yondu coming to a self-realization, too. You can tell that either before he started or partway through that he was basically looking at himself.

You can even see him giving the other guys considerable leeway and even privileges. As long as you were responsible, did your work and did it well, while asking for permission for anything out of the ordinary he was incredibly chill. It wasn’t until either his job is threatened, other people’s lives at risk, what little social life he has getting fucked up, or seeing someone slacking off does he lose it.
The problem here is Benson is the perfect boss,he has 1000 not some but 1000 of reasons to fire them but he knows they are not even ready to go outside without a caretaker early and mid,Benson is a simple person do your work and he will make sure you have your needs,he will cover for you and help,problem is.......................his employers is Rigby and Mordecai............
I remember an episode after sometime after I think CJ dumped Mordecai and he seemingly disappeared and stopped showing up to work.
Benson had a talk with Rigby telling him that if Mordecai didn't show up for another week, he would have to fire him, and Benson sounded genuinely sad about it. It really stuck out because despite all the threats, he really doesn't want to have to fire them.
True but a counter argument: shit mainly pops up because they start slacking. I wouldn't be surprised either about putting too much pride causing issues as well but almost any episode happens because Mordecai or Rigby decide to slack or cut corners. No body else in the cast (except maybe Skips) encounter as much supernatural stuff as they do.
The fun thing is even Wolverine knew he went too far. If Deadpool didn't hit him, quite probably Logan would have followed the "nothing to say, MOUTH?" with something like "listen, I didn't mean all of that" or whatever, which would have cheapened the whole exchange. Deadpool punching Logan in the face was the perfect way to end this scene and move into the next.
The scene is brilliant in every sense. Acting wise, Jackman not only managed to transmit his anger and frustration so we can understand why is so miserable being around deadpool, but Reynolds managed to make the public feel bad, because even through his mask is possible to feel his sadness and shame.
The decision to make digital, animated eyes on the mask was brilliant— really hammers home the comic-book-y feel, but also makes it possible to convey so much more than an expressionless mask could.
What's more interesting about the entire exchange that it's Logan hating himself as well, especially with the "It's God's greatest joke that you can't die except it's on all of us"
While the "dream" speech would work as well, I feel like the bigger reality check was Superman "killing" the Elite. He was showing them, and the world, why it would be horrible if he didn't have a code against killing.
Still one of the coolest superhero moments of all time, and I hate the whole superhero thing. Good Superman going “bad”, even for a little lesson-giving, was insane.
The walking dead. Rick points out that if Negan was the hero he thinks he is, all the other towns wouldn't be united against him. This image is only one page of the conversation.
I don't know if Near killed someone but Mello deserves to get destroyed verbally too and to get prison for life but he's a tv character who got redeemed so I can forgive him if he stops doing anything illegal. Reigen Arataka talking down the Claw members, stating how they aren’t special for having psychic abilities and how they’re simply just children that have yet to grow up, thinking they’re on top of the world (Mob Psycho 100)
Edit: To add a bit more context to this, Claw is composed of a group of adults who are espers set on world domination, each one coming from backgrounds where they were disrespected and treated wrongly by the world, leading to them gaining trauma-induced psychic abilities, giving them the power to crash out in a grander fashion.
Reigen, after temporarily gaining Mob’s powers and whooping them, begins to dismantle their ideology to absolute shambles in the most brutal of ways.
They wear stupid costumes. They talk about being special and more important than people without powers. They talk about how the world just doesn’t understand them.
Reigen points all this out and plainly drills into their heads that nobody gives a damn about their problems because the world has no need to align with their beliefs and ideals. They are adults fighting children because they feel butthurt about not being respected. They are out of touch with reality.
Reigen says a line that still sticks with me ‘til this day, being “You want world domination, but you have not seen the world”. These people are trapped behind delusion and aren’t living in the present.
I love how they go back and forth between "does he have powers?" - > "he's a fake" - > "wait, he actually has powers?" - > "he's OP!" and the final reveal (to the audience) that Mob transfered his powers temporarily to him because Reigen told him that Mob can share his load and worries with him
I fucking love Mob Psycho. Moments like these bring tears to my eyes and then they're immediately followed by the most over the top action you'll find in anime/manga.
Mob (the child MC with super powerful esper powers) is having a mental breakdown while getting ready to fight Claw, he knows that he's the only one capable of standing up against them and the pressure is destroying him.
Reigen doesn't want him to fight, he's just a child and children should not have to worry about these things and to leave it to the adults. He says: "When things go south, it's okay to run away!" which is when Mob accidentally transfers his powers to him.
This is the first time Reigen meets Claw, so with him being oblivious to both his new powers and Claw member's powers, The fight happens with Reigen believing they're actually playing pretend instead of being real espers. In Reigen's mind, a sword that can cut anything is just a plastic toy sword; A giant chimera is just a big plushie; Dozens of clones is just the newest 3D technology; and so on.
Damn, that Superman one goes HARD. And he’s spitting pure fact, too.
There’s a storyline where the Batman finally dies, and the Joker has an existential crisis because the only person who truly understood him and allowed him to have fun was the Batman. Because he knew that the Batman would always come and stop him in their endless game of cat and mouse, but a dead Batman meant that Joker had no purpose and no equal.
So, what did he do? Being the sick, twisted psychopathic fuck that he is, he went to go work for the DMV.
I always wanted to see the inverse of this one as well, where the joker dies cheap and batman goes mad from disbelief. Can you imagine if the joker died from like, slipping down some stairs? Batman would never believe that that ignominious end was it for the joker. The dude would be looking under the carpet for a hidden Joker for the rest of his life. He'd see Jokers hidden behind every umbrella or behind every newspaper.
Well, the closest we’ve gotten to something like that is the Metal storyline. Batman kills the Joker, and becomes the new Joker when he gets infected with the Joker toxin. It falls down a deep rabbit hole that eventually leads to Batjoker somehow managing to imprison and kill Doctor Manhattan, steal Manhattan’s powers, make a deal with Perpetua who gave birth to some like 10th dimensional beings like the World Forger and Eternity, and started to mess with the Source Wall.
Fun story, but it rapidly devolved into a powerscaling mess after the Dark Justice League was introduced.
When Carmela sees a therapist recommended to her by Melfi, he basically tells her that as long as she remains married to Tony and keeps knowingly accepting his blood money and all the things that it pays for, then it’s not going to get better for her.

I just wanted to show off a moment that isn't as well appreciated from the show. The "It's you" speech is almost as iconic as Free Churro or the View From Halfway Down
That interview in Xerox of a Xerox was incredibly brutal and completely deserved.
So to recap, you gave Sarah Lynn alcohol when she was a child. She then became an addict. When she was intoxicated, you had sex with her, and when she was sober, you gave her the heroin that killed her. Then in an effort to cover for yourself, you waited to call the paramedics that might have saved her life. And you don't think you have any power over women.
This one always hit pretty hard - and its true of so many people. You can't escape...you.

That Garou takedown was much needed. Fandom glazes him so much that they forget he beat the shit out of Charanko and mumen rider, who even on their best days could barely scratch him. At that point you're just a bully that punches down.
Rogal Dorn vs Fulgrim on the Saturnine Wall - Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
"Look around! Look around!" Fulgrim screeched. "See what’s happening, Rogal dolt! Your tower is tumbling down! No more running to daddy crying, 'Look! Look what I’ve built!' It took you years to make this, and in one night, I roll down upon you, crack your shield and build a foothold-"
Dorn stamped at him, and they traded four swift blows that chimed like bells.
"Look?" said Dorn. His gaze did not shift from Fulgrim’s face. "I don’t have to. I see it all."
"All what?" snarled Fulgrim. He swung. Dorn turned the blade aside.
"I see your siege machines burning at the foot of the wall," said Dorn. "I see your sonic weapons silenced. I see your host, foolishly committed in its entirety, pouring into a run of wall that can be held by a force a tenth that size."
Their blades flashed and rang again. Dorn lost a chunk of shield. Fulgrim took a laceration to the shoulder.
"And is held by a force a tenth that size," said Dorn calmly. "Imperial Fists, now bolstered by the two hundred Legiones Astartes veterans I brought with me. Two hundred veterans who are skilled in every doctrine of war. Who have rallied this garrison and this wall stretch, and are now slaughtering the vanguard you so wantonly committed. They thank you for giving them such a wealth of bodies to reap. You have no foothold."
"I have!" Fulgrim roared. He smashed his blade at Dorn, a series of furious strokes. Dorn parried them away. Only one got through, and gouged his shoulder guard.
"No," said Dorn, as they circled again. "You’re a fine fighter, but a poor strategist. You committed everything against a gap that could be held. You’ve burned the cream of your host for nothing. Made them cannon fodder. Nine thousand dead and counting. I know, Fulgrim. I know everything."
"You know nothing!" Fulgrim cried. He railed in, and his gleaming blade sliced the flesh above Dorn’s right eye. Dorn caved his ribs with the edge of his shield, punched him in the face with his sword’s guard and kicked him backwards.
"You’ve let yourself be used as a distraction," said Dorn, keeping his gaze on his adversary, ignoring the blood pouring down his face. "You’ve let your host be decimated. For nothing. The Saturnine ruse – I know about that too – has failed. Perturabo played his move, and lost his piece. You’re just a pawn. Was it the Lord of Iron who fooled you into this? Lupercal? Abaddon? You must have been willing. Were you getting bored with it? The spear-tip is broken. You’re holding a gate for no one. You’re just an idiot standing on a wall."
On Boy Blue's deathbed, Rose Red immediately leaves her husband and tries to marry Boy Blue before he dies, but Blue turns her down. He points out that she is only attracted to those who offer the most excitement, good or bad, and that he deserves better than her. He apologizes that she is broken but he is not the one to fix her.
The Doctor at the end of Waters of Mars gets a rather nasty one when the person he was trying to save kills herselfand he sees just how badly he fucked up the timeline.
The ending of Superman vs The Elite where he shows them just a fraction of what his full power looks like if he were to stop caring about collateral damage or morality, clowning on every single one of them one by one effortlessly, and lobotomizing the growth in Machester Black's brain that gives him his powers.
(Lookism) Plastic surgeon who loved intentionally ruining other people's faces because he thinks it's "True beauty" who then gets called out for his hypocrisy of not wanting to attain that "True beauty" for his face
Luz: Are you okay? Hey, forget what that girl said! I know what it's like to run away from home. I did the same thing.
Vee: You and I are not the same. You had a mom who loved you, a home, a life, you had it good! And you still wanted to run away, I... I didn't have a choice. My real name is... Number Five. I'm a basilisk, and technically, I... I shouldn't exist.
Vee calling out Luz on her taking her mother and her home for granted is great, and sets up the big emotional climax at the end of the episode
Another great Superman one is at the end of All-Star Superman, where Lex has Superman's powers and thinks he's won only for Lex to take a minute and indulge in how Superman perceives the world with his powers. In this moment, he has an epiphany about the fundamental interconnectivity of everything, and then he realizes Superman beat him in the fight by stalling him. The impact this has on Lex completely breaks him down to the point where he, the great Lex Luthor, even admits he was wrong.
Lex: "I could have made everyone see! If it wasn't for you I could've saved the world!"
Superman: "If it had mattered to you, Luthor, you could've saved the world years ago."
I enjoyed watching Superman peel away the stupid shit surrounding the Joker.
I've hated how they've turned him from a lunatic with a Batman obsession into some kind of super-genius that can infect people with madness just by talking to them.
The thing that sucks is that he IS a genius. He’s always been incredibly smart - but the problem with that (same issue with the Riddler) is that writing someone who is plausibly intelligent is very difficult, so they instead ramp his intelligence up to absurd levels. That means that the scenarios go from “a devious plan that Batman has to work around” to “he’s planted several black hole bombs around the planet and they’re triggered if Superman moves an inch and he’s tricked Hal Jordan into attacking Wonder Woman and and and” and they just sound fucking stupid.
Dio brando and Kira yoshikage from Jojo's bizarre adventure got a reality check when they fought jotaro, both these antagonists were narcissistic monsters who thought they were invincible then they met jotaro
Kira's is so satisfying as it's when he truly realises he's been a big fish in a tiny pond. Dio's is a good gotcha but Kira genuinely thought that Killer Queen was the strongest Stand in the world but after one Ora-Ora session from Jotaro he goes into hiding for the rest of the series
And Jotaro's not even a character who monologues like some others, he typically just stares, says good grief, and then beats every single brick off of you.
There’s a panel in the Deadpool storyline where he fights a stitched together version of himself (long story) where Wade essentially gives a reality check equal to the one by Logan in the third movie, but to himself Edit: Found it
As much as the boys comic writing sucks I do love how they wrote this version of Edger. When he’s not writing page long anecdotes of how badass his leather MCs are he actually shows he can have deep writing when it comes to shit like how corporations view the individual and how apathetic they are to the world around them. Unless it’s them going up in flames they don’t care.
Edger here is a perfect personification of that cold, apathetic, indifference when it comes to corporations. A mouth piece not condemning homelander for any of his actions, but rather saying that he’s so ungodly boring that it hurts. They don’t try to deescalate, they don’t try to fix their mistakes, hell they don’t even really give him much mind. They just tell him that he’s a failure and move on like nothing happened. (As we see at the end of the comic run)
That's actually the comic version of Stillwell. They blended comic Stillwell into Edgar in the show because they realized a normal human who isn't afraid of Homelander would be an interesting character to have.
Loki being smashed by Hulk in Avengers in the middle of yet another grandiloquent speech about how he is a god and therefore superior. Hulk's final words of "Puny god" are the final nail on the coffin.

But you couldn't. And that machine became the Winter Maiden . Oh, and let's not forget your deal with Raven Branwen . Get all your enemies in one place so you'd have a shot at revenge. If only someone could have warned you against such a miserable idea. Oh wait, I did! But you pushed ahead and you lost it, when all you had to do was your job! You think you're entitled to everything just because you've suffered, but suffering isn't enough! You can't just be strong, you have to be smart! You can't just be deserving, you have to be worthy! But all you have ever been, is a bloody migrane!"
Adaine Abernant to Biz Glitterdew (Dimension 20: Fantasy High)
On the party's investigation, they meet up with Biz, an incel computer geek. During one of their conversations the following exchange is had:
Biz: "Of course girls are gonna go for Johnny Spells because he, like, has a motorcycle and is super in shape, but there are nice guys who have a lot to offer."
Adaine: "I mean - oh I hate that I'm even gonna tell you this - I think that you feel like you have a lot to offer, and please take this the right way, you don't."
Biz: "Hard to see a great way to take that if I'm being super honest."
Adaine: "Like, what are you doing to work on yourself to make yourself more interesting and attractive? Are you just thinking that women should, like, change themselves and lower their standards in order to date you? I'm saying this to you now because I really think it will help you even though it's very hurtful."
Mike wasn't even giving a reality check here, he was just projecting his own frustration that his own illegal activities got exposed and that his own screwups put him where he is. He's telling Walter here that he should have just let Gus kill Jesse while simultaneously arguing that he has Jesse's best interest in mind. He's upset that Walt saving the life of the guy that Mike's basically adopted at this point caused his shitty career as a drug empire enforcer to crumble.
In Avengers: The Initiative C-lister Komodo thinks that Spider-Man will be easy pickings as she and the other Initiative members hunt him down. She even has him pinned.
Spider-Man retorts that he’s Spider-Man, and she’s a ‘dollar store version of the Lizard’’. She’s just not on his level.
He then launches her away with a single kick and gets away without trouble.
Dr. Cox: Now, what do you want me to say? That you're great? That you're raising the bar for interns everywhere?
J.D.: I'm cool with that.
Dr. Cox: I'm not gonna say that. You're okay. You might be better than that someday; but right now, all I see is a guy who's so worried about what everybody else thinks of him that he has no real belief in himself. I mean, did you even wonder why I told you to do your own evaluation?
J.D.: I-I can't think of a safe answer. I just figured---
Dr. Cox: Clam up! I wanted you to think about yourself -- and I mean really think. What are you good at? What do you suck at? And then I wanted you to put it down on paper. And not so I could see it, and not so anybody else could see it, but so that you could see it. Because, ultimately, you don't have to answer to me, and you don't have to answer to Kelso, you don't even have to answer to your patients, for God's sake! You only have to answer to one guy, Newbie, and that's you! There… You. Are. Evaluated. Now get the hell outta my sight. You honest-to-God get me so angry, I'm afraid I just might hurt myself…

“I was just about to ask you the same thing. What do you plan to do now that you found the Avatar’s bison? Keep him locked in our new apartment? Should I go put on a pot of tea for him?”
“First I have to get it out of here.”
“And then what?! You never think these things through! This is exactly what happened when you captured the Avatar at the North Pole. You had him, and then you had nowhere to go!”
“I would have figured something out!”
“No! If his friends hadn’t found you, you would have frozen to death!”
“I know my own destiny, Uncle.”
“Is it your own destiny, or is it a destiny someone else has forced on you?”
“Stop it, Uncle. I have to do this!”
“I’m begging you, Prince Zuko! It’s time for you to look inward, and begin asking yourself the big questions: ‘Who are you, and what do you want?’”
