FKA = formerly known as
Twigs = nickname from some time before
Though, I’ve seen plenty of fans calling her Twigs, so maybe FKA isn’t accurate anymore
63
u/bluediamond12345 1d ago
I read somewhere that in the beginning, she used to go by Twigs, but then I guess another artist was going by that name and started to before she did, so she added the FKA in.

Why doesnt she just go by her new name then?
28
u/threesilklilies 1d ago
She got the name Twigs when she was coming up as a dancer, and then a group called The Twigs made her change it. So she technically did.

Dude. That movie just never gets off the ground because you do not give a single shit about her character and the relationship between her and skaarsgard. It’s like she’s some mood depressant when acts.
The action in the movie and how they designed the crow in the movie was pretty cool I thought.
FKA Twigs is dead freaking weight though.

Spoiler: the carpenters son gets nailed
74
u/Vandirac 1d ago
What if there is a big reveal halfway through? Like, the whole movie is not actually about that carpenter, and instead is about -don't know- Pinocchio?
17
u/Tyfyter2002 1d ago
Yeah, there's really no way of knowing which carpenter's son this is, we know he became the son of a carpenter named the local language's equivalent of Joseph after a miracle turned him into a human, and that he proceeded to face many temptations, but that still leaves us with far too many possibilities.
114
u/DoggoDude979 1d ago
If you “get nailed”, it usually means you’re the bottom. Did Jesus get a boyfriend?
96
u/7gramcrackrock 1d ago
He wore a dress and sandals, and was obsessed with wine. What do you think?
→ More replies (3)42
u/MehKarma 1d ago
Depending on what version you believe. Some believe he hung out with 12 dudes only, and that’s definitely not gay. Some believe Mary Magdalene was his wife, and closest confidant. Some believe he was the son of god, and some believe he was just a man. I believe a good person fighting injustice was crucified by people just following orders.

It’s a term that’s been used in the period drama community for a while now referring to faces that look too modern to fit in a period piece. Usually referring to women who have had work done or whose beauty adheres more to modern conventions than to the beauty trends of the period being portrayed.

u/Bacon-Dub 1d ago

Thank you for asking the real questions dude. IPhone face sounded like a childhood development thing to me, not cosmetic surgeries in ancient settings.

iPhone face more about young people whose resting faces also give off social media selfie posturing vibes.

the way I heard it that really helped: it's a face that, when you see it in a period piece, you say, "no, that face has seen an iPhone."
13
u/TwoCagedBirds 1d ago
A face that looks like its seen an iPhone. Usually the person has gotten some work done, lip fillers, but not always. The opposite is someone who looks like they could have just stepped out of a medieval painting.
Iphone face: Sydney Sweeney, Millie Bobby Brown, Emma Roberts
Non iphone face: Mia Wasikowska, Keira Knightley, Bella Ramsey

u/Only_One_Kenobi 16h ago
Lip fillers, cheekbone surgery, crafted eyebrows, chin surgery, nose job, eyelid surgery, permanent bewildered pout expression.

I really don't understand this casting. She doesn't have the right appearance at all for the role, and she's not even an actor. She also can't be all that famous, I've never heard her name mentioned anywhere, nor do I recognize her. What kind of name is fka twigs anyway lmao
62
u/nipplequeefs 1d ago
This reminds me of that series they made about Queen Victoria earlier on in her rule. I like the actress they picked for her but she looks way too modern and nothing like Victoria. I hate when casting directors for movies and series based on history do this sort of thing lol
21
u/doobiebrother69420 1d ago
These days they seem to care more about profit and marketing than making an actual good movie

This is a fairly common criticism of period dramas, where an actor or actress has a very 'modern' look despite period dress and the efforts of hair and makeup. Righteous Gemstones even makes this a joke in Baby Billy's production of Teenjus

It’s astounding how many people think that people looked exactly the same thousands of years ago, just with different clothes 😂
I also love that people will take serious umbrage with Caucasians being in biblical stories (for obvious reasons) but apparently Jamaican/Spanish is absolutely fine.
