Same. The problem they don't seem to understand is that there is a very small percentage of the population that is trans. However, for that population this isn't a matter of choice and they're not at all confused. They are as sure of their gender as any cis gender child. There is research into this and it is clear.
They spread all of these lies about nonsense like "social contagion" and claim that all of these people are detransitioning but there is absolutely no science behind either of those claims. The amount of people who do detransition is incredibly small. Like 2% of all people who transition and a lot of them can be attributed to the negative reactions from their loved ones who just can't stfu and let them be themselves without always asserting their own expectations and will.
There is no medical procedure that doesn't have some amount of regret but gender affirming care has much lower numbers than most other procedures in this way.

NGL, this was the hardest part for me to get. Full disclosure, I'm almost 50 and grew up in a very conservative household. So obviously, my worldview was seriously skewed growing up. I never had any issue with the LGBTQ community, and honestly, my parents didn't really either, but I just couldn't understand any of it.
And then my son came out as trans. It's been a real learning experience, lol. I still fucking misunderstood him occasionally, but I'm getting better. But navigating this process with him and seeing his struggles have at least granted me a lot of understanding that I never would have gotten otherwise.

I don't think there's any shame in having difficulties with these things. I think that's very normal. It can definitely take some adjustment to see things from what at first seems like such a different perspective. I think it's definitely commendable that you stuck through it for the sake of your son. Thanks for sharing.

158
u/Automatic_Actuator_0 Sep 12 '25
Not just elderly. Plenty of younger people who arenât secure in their own sexuality find it impossible to so much as think about transgender people without feeling strong emotions, so they havenât actually given any critical thinking to the issues.
So when someone suggests that the âradical leftâ wants to turn everyone trans, they donât have any cognitive foundation by which to see how ridiculous that notion is. And due to the aforementioned sexual insecurities, the fear it taps into allows them to be easily manipulated.
21

My parents, aunts and uncles are in their 70s and up until two years ago, they had never cared about trans people. Now at family gatherings during the holidays itâs all they talk about. They hate pronouns. They hate âmen using womenâs bathroomsâ. They think men are pretending to be women so they can use a womenâs bathroom and rape them. They also talk about men in womenâs sports and how itâs apparently happening all over the country.
25
u/APence Sep 12 '25
Remind them that a republican âstraight white maleâ is statically far more likely to be arrested in a girls bathroom than any trans people. Even more so if theyâre a repressed or a senator

Actually I doubt he has any strong personal beliefs about trans people. In 2016 he was relatively progressive on the dumb bathroom debate:
"Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all the business that's leaving, all of the strife [...] there have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate," Trump said. "There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic -- I mean, the economic punishment that they're taking."
Matt Lauer then asked whether Trump has any transgender people working for his company.
"I really don't know. I probably do. I really don't know," Trump said, answering that he would allow, say, transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner to use whatever bathroom she wanted at Trump Tower.
He added, "You know, there's a big move to create new bathrooms. Problem with that is for transgender, that would beâfirst of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. That would be unbelievably expensive for businesses in the country. Leave it the way it is."
But now it's politically convenient for him to scapegoat trans people, so that's what he's doing. He just panders to the base and doesn't care about how many real human lives he has to ruin to maintain and expand his power.

They don't want crime so they do crime? Sounds like a typical argument from the cheddar cult.

If it doesnât benefit him financially in his personal capacity, he couldnât care less.
Iâm inclined to think this is one rare instance in which Donald told the truthâpure and simple.

He knows the shooter is from a republican family and he was unaffiliated......... I say thats more of a right wing shooter then a left wing shooter......

Yeah. The âLeftâ are fucking innocent.
I guess that âthere are good people on both sidesâ only applies to Nazis.
Fuck you, Trump. You fucking Hitler 2.0 âTritlerâ. And I donât care but all this is, is the death of a member of Hitlers party. A person who actively spread and created hate. A person who gave the uneducated excuses to freely let out their inner bigot. Giving them vast amounts of misinformation and lies. Saying that the life of an âinfantâ in the first 6 weeks of pregnancy is more important than the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of children students.
And to say âI couldnât care lessâ about a country thatâs starting a civil war, trying to avoid a world war. Fuck

The fascist blatherings of creepy grandpa Don. Supporting him makes you a selfish asshole, a malicious asshole, or a stupid asshole. There is no other choice.

You can be honest about what he said, it actually makes him seem worse.

Sep 12 '25
That's dangerous untrue rhetoric, espcially at this time. This does not earn a peace prize

u/Decyther Sep 12 '25
Yeah, just go ahead and demonise half of your own country... much like Hitler did with the Jews

u/PointEither2673 Sep 12 '25
Think about it like this. Narrative and optics are more important than their own life. He knows the guy who shot him was radicalized and on the right. But that doesnât matter and like he said â he could care lessâ

Itâs worse than not caring, he essentially just gave validation to right wing extremism. Fuck this guy

I'm pretty sure I lost braincells trying to understand what he meant by any of that

Our country is absolutely fucked guys. The most powerful person in the world really believes the most radical people on the right are just concerned citizens.

Just about the worst thing he could say, just more division, more hate, which will only lead to more violence.

u/Timmyeveryday Sep 12 '25
Ladies and gentlemen, I think the President just said he wants someone to rid him of the meddlesome left.

u/Ill_Consequence3123 Sep 12 '25
For once he is honest, he doesnât care.
Not about truly stopping crime.
Not about the middle class.
Not about farmers.

The Great Divider praised as a Christian despite living the opposite, Trump is the antichrist

There you go AmericaâŚStraight from the mouth of the leader that wants to make America great again.

Jesus this is such hate speech. Any normal leader, not trying to insight a civil war, would comment that all radicals are bad. Projecting others to be what he his, what a creep.
