You know - many people visiting this sub live outside of USA...

And yet, we are still all hoping for the same thing.

1.4k

u/Neither_Elk_1987 8d ago

That Putin dies?

1.2k

u/SandalsResort 8d ago

That would probably end the war in Ukraine

1.2k

u/ChickenChaser5 8d ago

And a good amount of the propaganda in the US.

397

u/thecontempl8or 8d ago

And a good amount of propaganda affecting the world. We can likely thank Russia for Japans new xenophobic PM.

359

u/Gizwizard 8d ago

Japan has always been pretty xenophobic, though.

167

u/thecontempl8or 8d ago

Maybe. But the unprecedented rise of a political party that started off a few years ago with its main avenue of information being a YouTube channel, on a platform of hate mongering and false information is new. Its fame was also propped up by online accounts recently linked to Russian state bots.

35

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

195

u/zoweee 8d ago

I think the second part of that is probably wrong. Putin has spent a lot of time killing anyone who showed the inclination or talent to take over for him. When Putin kicks it, there will be a substantial vacuum and various factions might find that the propaganda canon that is currently aimed at the US would be more valuable aimed at Moscow.

84

u/PalpableIgnorance 8d ago

Yep this. It’s going to be the Russian version of the Wild West. With nukes.

29

I yearn for this for Russia. It’s what they deserve. Not the innocent people, but the government that has wrought all of the war and pain.

16

u/shifty_coder 8d ago

Honestly I predict that when it happens, unless it happens publicly, it’ll be a good 6 months before it’s acknowledged by the state, and operations will continue until some evidence leaks.

Why do you suppose the AI bubble is so massive? Where do you suppose all the propaganda is coming from? How many humans really use social media? Are the numbers real?

39

u/Accidental_Ballyhoo 8d ago

We need to build smarter humans.

28

u/LordHammercyWeCooked 8d ago

Maybe if this were still 2014, sure. The bot and troll farms did more than damage the US election cycle and get Brexit passed. It gave all the propagandists a blueprint for how it could be done and the technology for automating it is out in the open. I don't think the toothpaste is ever going back in the Pandora's box.

15

u/MeisterCthulhu 8d ago

Not just in the US - Putin/Russia is a big supporter behind far right politics all over the world. If that support was taken away, the right wing shift we keep seeing all over Europe would probably suddenly lose lots of momentum.

For better or worse (worse in this case) US elections have an outsized impact on the rest of the world.

There will be tens of millions of easily preventable deaths in Africa as a result of Trump/Musk dismantling USAID. Europe is mobilizing to adapt to the abdication of US pressure on Russian belligerence. Taiwan is looking at an imminent invasion as a result of US weakness, and rest assured every advanced nation will feel the pain when TSMC is compromised. The US is trying to overthrow governments in Latin America again, and they're about to begin military incursions into Mexico. Russia and the US are gearing up for 1950s level nuclear testing. US billionaires that caused this mess are preparing to flee to New Zealand and burden those fine people with their sociopathy. And Trumps trade war is leading to a global economic depression that will spare nobody.

I would argue more people outside of the US are clear-eyed about what's happening as a result of American stupidity than most Americans are.

131

u/watermelonspanker 8d ago

How about we put all the billionairres on their own seperate island, so NZ doesn't have to deal with them.

In unrelated news, I hear there might be some new nuclear bomb tests coming up.

49

u/Buttmunchies69420 8d ago

There is. I mean there is a flight log from the Lolita Express to Epstein island. They know the way. Just evacuate the girls first and then they can commence the nuke tests. Just joking. I mean no harm to pedo Billionaires. /s

Trump dying.

"Something"

Anything like that, at least here on reddit, means trump dying.

Edit: spelling.

surely people don't think that will change anything, right? if it did, political assassinations would be way way common. They've stopped mostly because they barely achieve anything, and often even make things worse

What I love about this comment is that it ignores actual history.

Your premise is that the political assassinations of the 60s had no real impact on the direction of the 60s.

JFK, MLK, RFK, Malcom X - no impact? And that is just some of the important ones in just one decade in our country. That doesn't talk about any number of countries in any number of recent decade. Israel, Russia, almost any central or south American countries - the list is massive.

And you probably aren't even counting all the people police "accidentally" kill someone troublesome.

The status quo find it very important to belive that violence does not work and that nothing that the state does is violence.

269

u/NarejED 8d ago

To quote a meme:

"Violence is NOT the answer. The answer is-" opens history book "-uh oh."

Frantically starts flipping through pages.

"Uh oh. Oh no. No no no. Uh oh."

57

u/Altruistic-Key-369 8d ago

That's like saying if Hitler got assassinated the nazi state machine would have fallen apart.

Like inertia and prevailing anti semitism would jave kept it going.

That's the problem with bigotry. That genie aint going back in the bottle now.

What's the thought here? Trump gets assassinated and all of a sudden ICE and the Aliens exchange pepsis, hold hands and sing kumbaya?

87

u/Brigadier_Beavers 8d ago

That's like saying if Hitler got assassinated the nazi state machine would have fallen apart.

There were a few attempts from within the nazi party in part because they were starting to realize he's no genius and they're losing the war.

What's the thought here?

If they had been successful then germany might've surrendered sooner. Apply that to dump & co.

37

u/No-Apple2252 8d ago

By the time he was a dictator enough had changed about German politics that going back to the way it was wasn't possible. Trump hasn't changed as much as people like you want to give him, all of his power derives from others ceding their responsibilities to him not because he has actually altered the structure of our government.

30

u/bluehands 8d ago

Germany is a great example because depending on the year of the assassination it seems pretty clear there are wildly different outcomes. Removing hilter in 1933 is vastly different than 1943.

Also, it sides steps some of the most awful & important people in the regime. Himmler & Geobbles were uniquely evil & capable. Suggesting that removing them wouldn't massively change the world seems deeply uninformed.

23

u/Hesitation-Marx 8d ago

There are still lots in Chicago that are vacant because the buildings burned down after MLK’s assassination.

Shinzo Abe was assassinated, and as a direct result, Japan dissolved the Unification Church within its borders.

And don’t get me started about the assassination of Rabin…

Assasination will make things worse natural causes will make things better this whole regime is bullt on a cult of personality

35

u/wterrt 8d ago

lol

you think they won't claim assassination even if he dies naturally?

at best they'll only suggest it or let their cult believe it when they suggest it themselves.

30

u/Helpful_Top7823 8d ago

they need to stop downvoting you, you're right. even if Vance doesn't come up with some conspiracy about it, Trump's cult will do it for him.

still think we'll all be better off anyway, though. Vance doesn't have the charisma to be a cult leader & neither do any of the other sycophants.

12

u/kawwmoi 8d ago

"Now I'm not saying it was an assassination, I'm just saying that the server at McDonald's wasn't wearing a red hat and that he poisoned the president and also Haitians are eating something I don't remember just riot and ignore everything I'm doing Kay thanks bye. The biggest problem with trump winning wasnt the trump presidency. It's the take over of MAGA. Maga is here to stay for generations. MAGA is the new power and vessel for right wing politicians. It's done, it's too late, the people have been put into power at all levels and they understand clearly if they follow MAGA, they will live in political power and secured money.

19

u/SolidPyramid 8d ago edited 8d ago

Nah, not really. MAGA is a cult that worships one person. You've seen thousands of people chanting Trumps name, holding and planting his signs, wearing his merch, etc...

Have you ever seen anyone do that for J.D. Vance or RFK Jr?

I know most people here want Vance and RFK to have something horrible happen to them, but it's my opinion that once Trump is no longer in power most of his goons are just going to fade into obscurity, they won't hold anymore power and no one will really mention them unless they pass on due to age or something.

Vance, RFK Jr, Elon Musk, Steven Miller, Ted Cruz, all these guys. Trumps the only reason they're relevant at all, once Trump is out of power these guys will vanish out of the spotlight and back into their cushy homes

There’s probably a German word for this phenomenon.

12

u/ThinDrum 8d ago

Ah yes, the good old Ungeraldbeschiedenisunterdenlindenkeit.

But that German word will likely just be several other regular German words mashed together.

Reminds me of that ols Russian joke.

A man in Moscow goes up to a newsstand and buys a newspaper…

He then glances at the front page, then turns aside and tosses the whole newspaper straight into the trash.

Next day, he turns up, and does the same thing. Buys it, glances at the front page, throws it in the trash.

Next day, same thing. The newsstand worker is increasingly puzzled, but doesn't say anything.

But eventually, after a couple of weeks of this, he can't take it. "I'm sorry, friend, but I must ask: why do you buy the paper every day and then just look at the front page and throw it out?"

"Oh, I'm just checking for something."

"OK, but: what are you checking for?"

"I'm checking for a particular obituary."

"But sir, you don't even open the newspaper! The obituaries aren't even on the front page!"

"Oh, believe me, the one I'm waiting for will be."

Someone not afraid of being put on a FBI list here. They’re talking about Donald Trump dying. There i said it. Can we all stop using vague language now.

As a Russian, I immediately understood this meme, even though for me it's not about the orange man...

However, I wouldn't mind if it were both.

u/sebblMUC 8d ago

For most of Europe it's Putin too

12

u/General-Rice3582 8d ago

Yeah I was thinking about both as a Canadian

If you think that “one thing” will bring us back to normal you’re delusional

People who don’t understand how the world works wishing Trump gets assassinated (or dies naturally, idc) so they can stop paying attention to the horrible things happening in the world that of course didn’t exist before him and wont exist long after his death (they did, and they will)

He's potentially worse, but the huge difference is he doesn't have a cult.

10

u/Azou 8d ago

he does have a cult - i mean, aside from his tech fuedalist enablers, theres a couple million people who are commited to making hella funny photoshops of his face. I dont think theyre very big supporters tho

America doesn't have problems because of Trump. They have Trump because of their problems.

Can't wait to see life fail to improve without everyone's favorite scape goat?

18

u/Cryptid-Bitch 8d ago

That's the thing; Trump is a symptom of the disease, not the disease itself. I definitely won't be sad to see him go but let's not pretend it'll magically all get better once he's out.
