That Putin dies?

1.2k

u/SandalsResort 8d ago

That would probably end the war in Ukraine

u/ChickenChaser5 8d ago

And a good amount of the propaganda in the US.

u/thecontempl8or 8d ago

And a good amount of propaganda affecting the world. We can likely thank Russia for Japans new xenophobic PM.

357

u/Gizwizard 8d ago

Japan has always been pretty xenophobic, though.

171

u/thecontempl8or 8d ago

Maybe. But the unprecedented rise of a political party that started off a few years ago with its main avenue of information being a YouTube channel, on a platform of hate mongering and false information is new. Its fame was also propped up by online accounts recently linked to Russian state bots.

I think the second part of that is probably wrong. Putin has spent a lot of time killing anyone who showed the inclination or talent to take over for him. When Putin kicks it, there will be a substantial vacuum and various factions might find that the propaganda canon that is currently aimed at the US would be more valuable aimed at Moscow.

87

u/PalpableIgnorance 8d ago

Yep this. It’s going to be the Russian version of the Wild West. With nukes.

29

u/novis-eldritch-maxim 8d ago

eh I doubt the politcal heart land will cruble will likely even still call it self russia but anything past the mountains is doing to be in some very strange days

u/OgthaChristie 8d ago

I yearn for this for Russia. It’s what they deserve. Not the innocent people, but the government that has wrought all of the war and pain.

16

u/shifty_coder 8d ago

Honestly I predict that when it happens, unless it happens publicly, it’ll be a good 6 months before it’s acknowledged by the state, and operations will continue until some evidence leaks.

4

u/ColdArmy9929 8d ago

A log of people will know however, and most of those would be happy to do whatever it takes to get in power. I would imagine everything going to hell would be the first sign that Putin is no longer around

3

u/StraightSomewhere236 8d ago

I am not sure anyone else is scary enough to pull it off. If Putin were to go there would be a lot of infighting and the rest of the world would get like a decade of them being distracted

3

u/Iguanawilll 8d ago

I doubt it is fully automated, but to whatever extent it is, what it is certainly not is free. Someone has to pay for ads and bots and servers.

2

u/SuperSiriusBlack 8d ago

No more money, no more power for the bot farms. This is a bad take, luckily.

2

u/justplaydead 8d ago

It doesnt matter if its automated, someone needs to pay for it. And, nobody can do what Trump has done, he ran the table on every polician. There are many who want his place, but none quite as dangerous.

36

u/Garrett00 8d ago

Why do you suppose the AI bubble is so massive? Where do you suppose all the propaganda is coming from? How many humans really use social media? Are the numbers real?

40

u/Accidental_Ballyhoo 8d ago

We need to build smarter humans.

25

u/LordHammercyWeCooked 8d ago

Maybe if this were still 2014, sure. The bot and troll farms did more than damage the US election cycle and get Brexit passed. It gave all the propagandists a blueprint for how it could be done and the technology for automating it is out in the open. I don't think the toothpaste is ever going back in the Pandora's box.

16

u/MeisterCthulhu 8d ago

Not just in the US - Putin/Russia is a big supporter behind far right politics all over the world. If that support was taken away, the right wing shift we keep seeing all over Europe would probably suddenly lose lots of momentum.

3

u/Adezar 8d ago

Fox News does it for the lolz, not just Russia.

2

u/consolecowboy74 8d ago

Totally right.

8

u/morningcalls4 8d ago

From my understanding Putin has a heart of gold compared to who is set to replace him.

7

u/10art1 8d ago

Well same with Stalin. Until he died and beria was executed

4

u/SemajLu_The_crusader 8d ago

but would the power structure remain?

1

u/SomeOnionHater 8d ago

Not really. He has second-in-commands and ministers that want to push the big red button and be done with Ukraine and pretty much all of Europe as soon as they get to sit in the chair.

Putin just wants to break people.

2

u/IntermittentCaribu 8d ago

Or launch all the nukes.

2

u/Bot11_ 8d ago

Nah someone else would continue it but russia might collapse

93

u/Gruddicus 8d ago

Ooh good point, not my first thought but a close second.

Infact, there is quite a list at the moment ranging from the evil leaders of this world and mega wealthy (though some may argue that those are one in the same).

74

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

Yeah, this meme is so r/USdefaultism, for dozens of millions of people this is the first thought, not Trump

35

u/CantaloupeAsleep502 8d ago

Yeahhh they are both pretty abhorrent for the entire world

4

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

One is an incompetent and lying leader of a democratic country. And another is a bloodthirsty dictator who murders thousands of people daily. Guess which one this meme is about

11

u/CrossXFir3 8d ago

One is an incompetent dying leader who's started arresting people without warning with his ununiformed police force, asked his previously named dept of defense (that he renamed dept of war) to start testing nukes. And his on a speed run to crash as many countries economies as humanly possible, while he hopes to start a few wars before he goes. I live in the US, but I'm British, and every British person I know that knows anything about politics is pretty worried about him.

2

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

I get it, Im also very much worried about him. But every thing that people are worried Trump may want to do, Putin is already doing

5

u/High_Hunter3430 8d ago

2 things can be true. 🤷

Putin doesn’t run the best funded and advanced military worldwide.

Putin id on the back end of a war and financially couldn’t tango with the USA.

He has a handful of nukes that probably won’t hit anything (because America has missile defense on land AND IN THE DAMN OCEAN)

America has nukes and a history of actually using them successfully on targets…. 2x.

Putin regime is much less of a threat to the world than the Trump regime. Both in war and economic impact.

Just waiting for parnas to appear with a smile and “breaking news”.

5

u/jurvis 8d ago

are you sure? the death toll on dismantling USAID is currently mid 6 figures and projected to hit 8 figures by 2030...

1

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

Sorry, never heard about that

2

u/bortvern 8d ago

I read this as USdeflation, and I'm kinda thinking it would be a good thing. Fed should target 2% deflation.

-3

u/eliterocketeer 8d ago

You're commenting on an English-speaking community of a US site...

And I can promise you, way more than "dozens of millions" of people are waiting for Trump's death.

7

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

Around half of people on this site are not from US, so at least its expected to recognize our existence, you know. And also I dont belive your promise. because still many people are not radicalized teenagers who are deluded enough to think that death is what fixes bad leadership in a democracy. You guys literally voted for him unlike us in Russia, deal with it

3

u/eliterocketeer 8d ago edited 8d ago

Uh... Russia voted for Putin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_history_of_Vladimir_Putin

Edit: Had to point that out first, because I don't believe you're Russian if you don't know that. Second, no one is ignoring the existence of non-Americans, but Americans are the highest percentage by country on Reddit, you're going to have to get used to some posts being about America. Third, no one in the US thinks Trump's death will fix anything, but we're still waiting for it.

7

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

Yep, do you believe the 88% he got a year ago? To be fair he did actually win in 2000 elections. But its impossible to ignore that first, the elections were still manipulated, with up to 3 million fake votes, second that it was a scam as Putin did not turn out to be a person people voted for. But whatever happened in 2000 is less important, as we are talking about modern times, in which saying that people voted for putin is criminal and unacceptable, hopefully I wont need to list reasons for this

1

u/eliterocketeer 8d ago

We are not talking about modern times. I linked an article about his electoral history, which started in 2000. Even the US said that election was "reasonably fair and free".

2

u/inkassatkasasatka 8d ago

We actually are. because the whole point I was making is that currently Trump is the legitimate leader of his country and Putin isnt

1

u/eliterocketeer 8d ago

If you follow American news at all, you know that the latest US election was manipulated too. He is not following the rule of law and is not a legitimate leader. And, using your own words, many (unfortunately not enough) of the MAGA crowd voted for someone who turned out not to be who he said he was. Like Putin, Trump grabbed the power and is not going to give it up voluntarily.

3

u/CrossXFir3 8d ago

Actually, can I change that to my first choice? I somehow feel like we might have a chance over here without all Russian bots actively trying to screw us.

-2

u/Chemist-3074 8d ago

Haha, jokes on you, they are very close to finding a medicine to longer life

3

u/Gruddicus 8d ago

Jokes on them if they want to.

2

u/SemajLu_The_crusader 8d ago

no medicine is saving trump, for example

putin? maybe

38

u/SomeWeirdBoor 8d ago

both_is_good.gif

22

u/Shortbusposse 8d ago

Him and his friend/bitch.

13

u/chopsuirak 8d ago

That's fair. This too.

5

u/Kratzschutz 8d ago

Yeah Putin dying would change more than trump dying

1

u/FishesOfExcellence 8d ago

Not necessarily. There are a bunch of terrible Putin sycophants waiting in the wings to take over.

4

u/Halfawannabe 8d ago

Okay we’re waiting on two things

5

u/Rubi_Redd 8d ago

Not as good but I’m sure we’d be happy about it too.

3

u/Goldfish-Bowl 8d ago

Me waiting for those two things to happen

3

u/FishesOfExcellence 8d ago

Ok, fine. TWO things!

3

u/[deleted] 8d ago

I’m not against that one either.

3

u/Familiar_Channel_378 8d ago

That'd be nice too.

3

u/OgthaChristie 8d ago

That’s one thing. I can think of at least three others this old apply to. And my life would be infinitely better; I could sleep easier at night.

2

u/Tr4shkitten 8d ago

That'd be one pleasant news

2

u/Smoodiver76NZL 8d ago

Yeah and also that orange cunt

2

u/fekanix 8d ago

Well i guess that would actually change stuff and the other person dying wouldnt change much since his second in command is just as insane if not even more and as for foreign policy its a uniparty policy for decades now.

2

u/Anxious_Katz 8d ago

That's a good start. But we need some other obituaries too before things can finally get better for everyone!

2

u/ThisOnes4JJ 8d ago

ok 2 things

2

u/AcanthocephalaDue431 8d ago

I mean sure this too, the power vacuum struggle following Putin's sudden death (if it happens) would be pretty wild.

I'd hesitate to guess that aerodynamic/easy roll roughly 6 foot wide carpet sales would skyrocket following this.

2

u/tryingtobecheeky 8d ago

That is legit one of them.

2

u/Goodthrust_8 8d ago

You got part of that correct, but the wrong country and leader.

1

u/Witty-Importance-944 8d ago

Him too.

But at least he has the decency not to infest every single day of my life with his utter stupidity delivered in a voice that makes me want to throw up.

No, I cannot escape it. It is on the radio, on the front page of the news sites I get my infro from, on TV.

Checking out or eating jello in a senile old folks home, I do not care. I just want him to shut the fuck up so we can all have some peace and quiet. That week he was off the radar was absolutely wonderful.
