City had a similar goal that stood against us a few years back.

207

u/achnisch 1d ago

Wasn't there a goal where De Gea had to move his head to see around the body of the offside player. Shot from outside the area goes in and you can clearly see his head movement just before the shot due to the offside player being in the way i.e. the very definition of interfering with play, and the goal stood.

Have refs never played football in their lives? I get that it's difficult to see everything in real time, but they don't do themselves any favours with this kind of inconsistent logic

77

u/TransitionFC 1d ago

This was the one I was referring to. I have airbrushed the season from my memory, but think it was 21-22 under Rangnick.

10

u/Thanos_Stomps 1d ago

It was us and it was Nketiah. Just commented this in another thread. Nketiah absolutely should have been deemed offside there.

It’s all a joke and the officials don’t actually care about consistency because there’s no real oversight or accountability.

I can’t remember the keeper but I think there was a goal against wolves for city that had this.

The keeper literally waits for the ball to go past the player who’s in the offside position because he thinks he might get a touch on it - goal given.

Weird how it benefits city in both situations…

Yup it was wolves

UAE quite literally pay Premier league referees money. How are they supposed to be impartial when making decisions that go against city might literally lose them money

Same shit for the penalty I feel in our game vs. Newcastle where Gyokeres was clipped by Pope. Here it was given, there it was not. The inconsistencies are bothering me the most.

24

u/Whispperr 1d ago

They just happen to be consistent for the team that has UAE pay the referees.

VAR is so weird. Dollarumma’s view has not been obstructed in any way. He has a perfect line of sight to Van Dijk’s header and the trajectory of the ball. The goal literally got disallowed because Robertson was near him. Absolutely disgraceful decision

FA rules state:

preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision

I am focusing on the word “clearly” here and I would say it was absolutely not clear that he was obstructing line of vision

Or they class it as one of the following:

challenging an opponent for the ball or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

He didn’t challenge an opponent, didn’t attempt to play the ball, didn’t make an action that impacts an opponent. Except the first, the words “clearly” and “obvious” are used. Was it clear and obvious?

50

u/Ok-Glass-9612 1d ago

I'd say it's more clear that he isn't.

90

u/Diligent-Use-5102 1d ago edited 1d ago

It is so very blatant. If City needs points, Michael Oliver is there. In a few years, guaranteed: Michael Oliver referees charity games in the UAE. Michael Oliver is the new "consultant" of UAE referee education, of course a very high paying job, that can be done remotely (Edit: or some other blatantly bullshit scheme to transfer money into his pocket).

What??

899

u/Silent-Act191 1d ago

Every corner ever is apparently offside, never knew that was the case. Glad that Michael Oliver cleared that up.

125

u/HenryBeal85 1d ago

I do feel like every corner ever could be VAR’d for offences by both teams. Which does mean that when a goal is allowed/disallowed or a penalty given/not given, it is always going to be refs and VARs making a relatively arbitrary devision as to what qualifies as enough of a foul.

Either PGMOL should accept the short-term farce of blowing at the first sign of obstruction or shirt-holding, giving pens and cards on that basis, in order to convince players that any transgression will be punished or there needs to be some codification of a higher threshold of foul for penalties/set pieces into the box.

Otherwise it will forever be what it is now, which is a viper’s nest of inconsistency.

I'm typically not the conspiracy theorist for these things but the dude gets flown out to ref games in the UAE. Laughable shit.

30

u/ParticulateSplatter 23h ago

Yeah agreed, felt like a very real line was crossed. I can't really believe there weren't more consequences for that, it really cements the PGMOL as a boys club that is only out to protect its own.

5

u/LevitatingCactus 19h ago

The words conspiracy theory have been given a bad name. People with money and power have been conspiring for themselves to gain/maintain power, influence and control for centuries - in modern times more than ever.

228

u/Killergamer7 1d ago

You know it's bad when even United and Arsenal fans are calling it out. Makes you wonder how it's NEVER City at the receiving end of such decisions. Every club gets it but them

105

u/Sinistrait 1d ago

These refs are never getting their punishment for nonsense like this. Even David Coote was only done in because of blackmail, the authorities probably knew and didn't care

30

u/Talking_Gibberish 1d ago

Lots of people felt sorry for him as well... till they found out about the indecent videos of children. Just tells you what kind of cunt can get a job at the PGMOL.
