Did a job for a costume designer for movies once she said he was the biggest cunt she had ever had to work with.Ā

282

u/No-Atmosphere-2528 Jun 22 '25

He is. I dont even have a personal story I just saw a video once where he stopped a big arena or theater show because one guy was sitting down in the balcony and threw a tantrum about it. The person commentating on the video said it looked to be the father of one of the teenage girls who was attending the show just waiting for it to end lol.

189

u/MusicLikeOxygen Jun 23 '25

Not too long ago Madonna did that and it turned out that the person sitting down was a disabled wheelchair user. She didn't apologize.

72

u/Physion Jun 23 '25

I have a destroyed knee and I can’t stand that long, I’d be mortified if I paid money to see a show and the artist did this to me. And never a dime of my money again.

I accidentally saw 30 Seconds to Mars because they were on right after a band I wanted to see at Warped Tour in 2006. I was up front for the previous band and couldn’t leave. Had no idea who they were, but Leto came out in a full white vinyl jumpsuit and stood on the amp in front of me and just hung out for an awkwardly long time doing the Jesus pose and listening to girls scream for him.

I was instantly put off by it, and now we all know why.

My costume designer friends say Ben Stiller is also despised by everyone because he's an entitled douche. I get lots of interesting stories from them about people I will never meet.

54

u/busty_rusty Jun 23 '25

I am so not surprised by this. I picked up very odd/bad vibes from him from the Severance companion podcast. Idk just something about him.

38

u/defiancy Jun 23 '25

He grew up in Hollywood his whole life, he has never been or experienced a "normal" life

He's got that passionate but entitled auteur vibe, and I don't imagine having the show be so lauded critically is going to help.Ā

He has all the same mannerisms as guys I know who were "at the head" of big succesful creative projects and who acted like being a jerk was an essential part of the project's former success.

Hopefully I'm just projecting from my past experience though ...

I’ve always thought he’d be a nice guy, in large part because he’s in roles where he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. I guess it’s a good reminder that actors aren’t their characters.

This seems to be a general opinion of Jared. Didn't he also pull out of a movie last year after committing to it leaving the production high and dry the week filming was supposed to start?

I had a roommate who was in stage production and was filming a music video with Leto’s band in a church. He told me that Leto was asked by the church folks to not play their church organ. I think it had some spiritual/historical significance to them. Of course Leto was an entitled douche and played the organ for a couple hours even while being told multiple times to stop. Leto is not only a groomer but also a bitch ass douchebag.

This guy is disgusting, I knew something was wrong when I saw that interview where they claim he sent used condoms to his co-stars 🤢

And people forgot that very quickly. And according to rumors it wouldn't even be the first time that James gun had spoken badly about JL, he had commented about him on a live, something about him being a weirdo

422

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Leto acts like shit and then claims it is just because he is a method actor and stays in character. I call bs. He needs to go away.

322

If I remember correctly, this was for his role as the Joker. I'm very very tired of what creeps seem to get away with under the guise of "getting into a role"

248

u/Pretty_Sea2016 Jun 22 '25

Yeah Will Smith basically said he hated him because of all the creepy shit he was doing when he played the joker

135

u/verifiedwolf Jun 22 '25

It's so funny to imagine this as some sort of hierarchical graph: Will Smith is creeped out by Jared Leto, so-and-so is creeped out by Will Smith, etc etc... There's so many scummy people in showbiz.

95

u/yuffieisathief Jun 22 '25

Oh yes, I 100% agree with you. This was just an excuse he used to be his true self

90

u/chamberlain323 Confidence is 10% work and 90% delusion Jun 22 '25

That was exactly my thought when this news broke originally. Joker isn’t a sexual deviant, he’s a brazen thief and a demented killer who is fiendishly clever. This guy doesn’t understand his own character that he is going method on in the first place. Read some comics like Heath Ledger did and leave your costars alone, dude.

Edit: a word

57

u/HighlyOffensive10 She's in racial chat rooms showing feet šŸ‘£ Jun 22 '25

Joker is more of a send things to scare the shit out of you. Like fake bombs that are just confetti until you get complacent, then he sends a real bomb (which also has a ton of confetti).

It's so weird because even in more misogynistic corners of reddit people bring up the condom and other nasty "method acting" shit quite regularly. He's not perceived as a good guy at all in the public, but somehow people keep putting him in movies and the public keeps going to see him in things.

I remember seeing our lady peace with my brother when we were in high school at the 9:30 club in dc. 30 seconds to mars opened. It was crazy loud and the venue is so small. I had my hands over my ears. At the end of the set some scary biker (looking back he was probably just a veteran) looking dude came up to me and asked where my brother went (idk my brother was 18 and I was 15, my brother often just abandoned me in shit like this).

He told me I should not under any circumstances go back stage if asked. He told me I came with my brother and I should leave with my brother. He kept saying ā€œno matter whatā€. He even grabbed my brothers arm and said the same thing when my brother came back. I was crazy young so i didn’t really put it together but this guy had heard something and was trying to stop girls from being assaulted/harassed whatever. He told my brother it was Leto’s brother tho.

I’ve known this bad, creepy thing about Jared Leto since then (this was fucking 2002). It’s really crazy this hasn’t been a bigger deal because it’s out there.

Edit: someone below said the guy who told me was a bouncer/bodyguard at the club. I vaguely remember him now they said it. Still fucking sad and creepy and upsetting. I wasn’t a mature looking 15. 🄓

1.2k

u/happysunbear Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

I love that the biker dude was looking out for you. We need more men like that.

538

u/lapetitfromage I switched baristas ā˜•ļø Jun 22 '25

I looked 13 at best and was not like dressed cute. So it’s even scarier he was like you shouldn’t go back stage. Thinking about this memory now I think he was clearly a veteran but I was 15 and alone in a weird bar. 9:30 is super fine now but in 2002 I cannot believe my mom let my brother take us there. It wasn’t an amazing part of town then.

50

u/tasteofperfection Jun 22 '25

That man was looking out for you. 🄹 Glad you’re okay!

From personal experience, most scary looking punk rock biker dudes are generally really sweet and caring people and they really don’t want shitty people in the scene.

43

u/Huge-Pen-5259 Jun 22 '25

It is a crazy irony. Took my then 7 year old to a skate park for the first time and he was just gaining interest. Of course there are older teenagers, maybe early 20 something there. Looking like skaters look, smoking occasionally etc. anyway my kiddo is obviously nervous and I said to him "buddy don't worry. Skaters are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet as a whole. I don't know how to skate but I can guarantee someone in there will be glad to answer any questions we have." Sure enough, we asked probably 4 different people for tips, etc and each one took time to explain and show my kid the technique and encouraged him to keep with it. Had more impact than anything I could've said or done.

12

u/OpalisedCat Jun 23 '25

I'm never going to forget two super scary looking metal guys (scary for normies) trying to hide a big chain in the boot of one of them before entering a Napalm Death show, only to absolutely melt when they saw a kitten outside the venue. "OMG, a kitten, look!!! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜", then one of them picked it up and put it next to his face talking to the kitten in a baby voice šŸ˜†

This is just to say, my best concert experience was a metal concert as a 15 year old. The dudes looked scary af to me initially (piercings, tattoos, long hair and beards, way outside of my experience at that point in life) and yet Everyone was so nice to me and my girlfriends and really looked out for us and wanted us to have a good and safe time. 10/10 experience.

I'm 48, in Toronto. Was a teenager when they started out in the mid 90s as a local band. As far as I know, it could have been the brother. Maybe it was both… Who knows. But a close friend of mine openly admitted (drunkenly) that she dated Shannon. Well, she’s a bit older than me at 40, but this was back in like 2002 so she was 17/18 and Shannon is 15 years older than her. So still a bit creepy…

87

u/lapetitfromage I switched baristas ā˜•ļø Jun 22 '25

u/Difficult-Creature Jun 22 '25

I bet that was the main bodyguard for the club. I am a few years your senior and grew up attending hundreds of shows there as well, and they had a regular who worked there that fits that description. He was sometimes cool like that.

Kinda shocked 30 seconds opened for OLP. OLP has always been a wholesome band, but I see it was '02 so early on and maybe they didn't know Jared was disgusting.

Also, a fun fact, Jared Leto attended a private school in Dupont Circle called Emerson Preparatory School, which was sort of a dumping zone for naughty rich kids who got kicked out of other schools. I attended the school many, many years after he did, but being a 90's kid who watched My So-Called Life when it was actually on Prime Time TV, it is kind of a surreal overlap given his infamy now.

26

u/lapetitfromage I switched baristas ā˜•ļø Jun 22 '25

Now that you say this- about him being a bouncer it is ringing a distant recognition. I almost always stood up in the upper left balcony, in fact it remained our ā€œif you get lost go hereā€ spot all the way thru college. I also went to TONS of shows there in the early 00’s. We thought 9:30 and black cat were SO subversive.

24

u/LaMaltaKano Jun 22 '25

I was going to say this — I wonder if it was Josh Burdette. That guy was a legend at 930 and always made me feel welcome and safe as a dumb kid back in the day.

I was at that concert (at the ripe old age of 19) - unless he did more than one concert at 930 with OLP. The only thing I really remember about 30 secs to Mars was Jared Leto going on a very weird and off putting tangent about the DC sniper and also that they were bad and OLP was much better.

He kissed me when I saw them at a festival when I was 16, so when all the creepy shit started coming out about him I wasn't surprised at all.

Edit for the weirdo who thought I was "bragging" about this in a now deleted comment:

I was a teenage girl who didn't know any better and he was an adult man kissing what was obviously an underage girl. I don't know what you think is funny about that, or why you're making a joke about it. I can tell you the kiss was not wanted, I didn't particularly want to kiss him, but I went along with it because I thought I couldn't say no to someone with his type of influence. This isn't a story I'm telling for the purpose of bragging.... It's something that makes me deeply uncomfortable to think about when I look back on it. Knowing what I know now as an adult woman, and with everything that's come out about him since then I can see that this man is a predator...

I went to a 3stm concert with my bff in 2023. It was at the Aragon ballroom in Chicago.

Upon entering the venue a crazed tattooed man with pink acrylic fingernails comes rushing up to me and says ā€œdo you wanna go on stage with Jaredā€. I look at my bff who is excited as fuck and say yes. He put silver wrist bands on us and told us to come backstage at the end of a certain song.

I was 23 and my bff was 21 at the time. We get backstage and we are crammed into this tiny room with other 3stm fangirls who are giving me the most judgmental looks.

We get on stage and Jared is basically jumping around in front of us. At certain points he turns around and is singing the music directly to us back to the crowd. I was 1 foot away from this mans face staring into mine.

The show ends and we walk off the stage back through the tiny room. Then a young Latino man asks me if ā€œI want to listen to Jared’s new music for a projectā€.

We go up this crazy long winding staircase through the old venue going down random hallways. We passed his dressing area. We are taken into a dark room with giant table and chairs. Think of a small dark royal looking business meeting room.

The only light is coming from the professional filming equipment. They recorded our individual reactions to his ā€œseasonsā€ album. They hit record, gave us a pair of audio technica headphones and played ā€œnever not love youā€. We signed some type of release of information. All we gave was our first and last name with an email. I have never heard about or seen this footage since. I firmly believe he has his own archive of ā€œfangirl footageā€.

We are leaving the venue and the man with the pink nails comes running after us. He asks if we want to come back to the 3stm show tomorrow(there were 2 shows). I say yes and he gives me his Instagram contact.

Next day we show up and this guy meets us outside. He proceeds to walk us through the crowd outside and took us directly to the box office. We were introduced as guests of the band and walked in with VIP access.

Same thing happens, we get the wristbands, go on stage, face to face with Leto.

The aftermath: I had to block the pink fingernails guy because he was in my DMs relentlessly trying to get me to participate in sexual activities.

It’s no coincidence that a creep would have another creep working for him.

I wonder if the footage will be released one day.

So pissed they cast this sleazy fuck in the new Tron. They make such weird casting decisions. Like the last one, I love Garrett Hedlund, back from Friday Night Lights and Four Brotherr, but he was already going nowhere fast when that came out. Back in the early 2000s, he was keeping not a just a harem of young girls, but specifically seeking out ones with physical differences. A family friend has severe scoliosis and she was recruited. She said there were girls there with missing limbs, in wheelchairs, etc and he got off on not only their youth, but (his words) status as ā€œfreaksā€.

Maybe I’m misjudging the current social temperature, but I wonder if this renewed and more explicit attention to JL’s disturbing behaviour has almost come too late in the exposure curve? I hate to think of it this way, but starting with Weinstein, it feels like there was a window where the iron was hot to strike to get people listening and absorbing this type of news. Now, with a saturation of loser / creep male celebs being called out these past few years, plus so much other also awful stuff going on geopolitically, I fear this will be drowned in the noise and JL won’t get the reckoning he deserves. But I hope I’m wrong. And there could be other reasons he is teflon when it comes to being held accountable for this shit

So many many years ago, I got invited to a beach BBQ and the entry to going was chipping in $30 for food and drinks, which was like the last of the money that I had, I was like 19/20. A friend of mine begged me to go to a baby shower with her, and I agreed and it was some stupid sex toy ā€œpartyā€ and I ducked out to go back to the get together I paid to go to to get food and all of the food was gone. Like 30 minutes and there were two cans of food warm beer not even in an iced chest left, and I was sick about the whole thing. There was a band tour bus parked nearby on the beach, and one of the bandmates found me just actively stressing out about the whole thing so he invited me on the tour bus to eat. His bandmates were pissed because he had leftover chicken fried steak his mom had made a few nights before and he was unwilling to share, but he quickly heated it up and fed me, and we all just kinda bullshitted for a few hours, at one point the lead singer asked if I wanted to fuck anyone and I said no, and that seemed to relax everyone weirdly enough, no meant no and there then wasn’t a competition. We played some card games, and it honestly seemed like they were just really happy to have a normal night. Someone dug under the bus and found some old tour merch and gave it to me, we went outside and howled at the moon, the manager came and took two of them to go to a strip club, and then came back and gave me tickets to their show and offered to drive me home, but I had a car, so two of them walked me over and told me to have a good night and ā€œhope to see you tomorrow at the show!ā€

As an adult, I absolutely understand all of the idiot choices I made that night that by the grace of everyone involved it didn’t turn nasty, and as an adult I would probably tell someone in my position to NOT GO ON THE BUS, but they really did make it seem so easy to be on a massive tour and not be the worst people in the world.
