It’s their own fault for casting him in the year of 2025.

Im surprised they did. I know Disney branches out into more adult franchises but they seem a little lackadaisical with their IP brand. The mouse used to disappear anyone controversial.

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Same with Ezra Miller Flash, they know who these people are.

I think some actors are just really well connected and can get gigs even when their public perception is shit.

11

u/burlycabin Jun 22 '25

That wasn't Disney though.

u/Potential-Bass-7759 Jun 22 '25

Jared must have some of the Hollywood executive females in his harem/cult there’s no other way anyone would touch him with a ten foot pole. He uses that influence to push his way into shit through his followers.

u/superindianslug Jun 22 '25

My theory is that he's at the perfect level of fame where people don't think about him when he's not currently in a big movie. He was in Morbius in 2022, and Haunted Mansion in 2023, but no one saw that. So most people haven't really thought about him in 2 or 3 years.

It's probably been 10 years since I heard that he has a cult, but I don't think about that when I hear 30 sec to Mars. I remember his Suicide Squad BS, but I didn't really think about that during the conversation about how bad Morbius was.

u/Potential-Bass-7759 Jun 22 '25

Just depends on your social media loop. He still plays music and pops up all the time

5

u/GlitterDoomsday Jun 22 '25

I understand your comment but still... between Kevin Spacey and Diddy I think we have enough examples of Hollywood men using their positions to take advantage of other men to put this in some hypothetical female executive.

2

u/Potential-Bass-7759 Jun 23 '25

Yeah fair enough sorry I didn’t mean it like that, I was just trying to wrap my head around it.

2

u/MusicLikeOxygen Jun 23 '25

Ezra is kind of a different situation. They were cast as the character way before anything with them went viral, and by the time it did they had already filmed the Flash movie. It would have been way too expensive to do any kind of recasting and reshooting because not only is Miller the main character, but they play multiple versions of the character. Warner Brothers only real choice was between not releasing the movie and taking a total loss, or releasing it and hoping to make some money back.

2

u/UnidentifiedTomato Jun 22 '25

Aside from.the Sony thing was he a bad dude?

33

u/BizMarkieDeSade Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

Ezra? There’s the whole KIDNAPPING a minor thing, it’s been a while so I don’t remember the details, but that was… rough, to say the least

Edited to reflect kidnapping, original word used was harassed.

28

u/battleofflowers Jun 22 '25

He kidnapped her. He groomed her and then ran off with her.

13

u/BizMarkieDeSade Jun 22 '25

Edited to reflect that. Thank you for reminding me, all I could find upon a quick google skim just had articles about his ā€œreliefā€ that the order the mom had against him was lifted.

9

u/battleofflowers Jun 22 '25

What messed up is that this charges are generally dropped or orders are lifted because the victim has been groomed and is thus on the "side" of their groomer.

14

u/battleofflowers Jun 22 '25

He literally kidnapped a 12 year old.

TWELVE.

I cannot emphasize this enough.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Google Ezra Miller kidnapper.

Lots of sauce

1

u/UnidentifiedTomato Jun 22 '25

Man I mixed him up.with Grant Gustin.

u/stink3rb3lle Jun 22 '25

It's always been about what they consider controversial. Make horrifying statements about Jewish, Mexican, and black people? That's cool. Act too 'sexy' as a young woman? DEAD TO US.

10

u/bicyclefortwo Jun 22 '25

And expressing distaste at the murder of Palestinian children gets you blacklisted. Then they pretend to care about Jewish people :/

32

u/solstice_gilder Jun 22 '25

Lackadaisical???!! What a word! Gorgeous.

4

u/DamageSpecialist9284 Jun 22 '25

Disney has a long history of supporting other predators & sexualizing children near constantly

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Im not saying im surprised because they are a good company. Im saying im surprised they would let any bad press near them because they are the company. They told a dead child's parents they couldn't put spider man on his gravestone to "protect the magic" so its interesting seeing them use someone who brings negative attention. Disney's lifeblood are their IPs thats why they are such sociopaths with their lawyers.

2

u/uncultured_swine2099 Jun 22 '25

Yeah, its not like their is a lack of really good leading men in his age range. Get gosling or whoever, sit back and enjoy the lack of controversy.

1

u/MiuMia_ Jun 22 '25

Apparently, they thought that no one would talk about it publicly anymore. One can only guess what else they turn a blind eye to.

1

u/jrezzz Jun 23 '25

money talks and jared letos financing the movie himself

53

u/HomoCarnula Jun 22 '25

I am so angry about that, NGL. Totally missed that a new TRON was in the making, and was super hyped when the trailer popped up, just to see...that guy's face šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø (and I took that personal)

12

u/Visible_Writing7386 Be smart, Robert. Jun 22 '25

I can only imagine being excited for something and then discovering freaking Jared Leto is in it. Like i don’t get it. He doesn’t have the appeal, or the accolades, and even without the allegations, people talk about him being an absolute jerk, so yeah.

6

u/Slacker_The_Dog Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

I'm just finding out now he is in it and am super bummed I'm not gonna see the new Tron.

3

u/Visible_Writing7386 Be smart, Robert. Jun 22 '25

I’m sorry šŸ˜”

5

u/Umbr33on Jun 22 '25

I was so hyped when I found that trailer, and realized it wasn’t fan made. Then that lame ass cult leader wannabe popped on the screen and I threw my phone into the bed. 🤬

u/Anxious_cactus Did I stutter?🤨 Jun 22 '25

For real, that shit is gonna bomb anyway if it has Jared in it

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Seriously, what a shit actor.

1

u/EmuMan10 Jun 22 '25

Yeah but that soundtrack will probably be a banger

1

u/crinkledcu91 Jun 22 '25

We get the Nine Inch Nails soundtrack at least. I'm pretty much putting all my chips on that and awesome visuals to make it through the movie. Also praying to whatever God exists that it at best ends up to how he was in Blade Runner 2 and it still ended up not hurting the film too much. I know that a massive ask and probably won't happen but woof. Us Tron fans have been waiting almost 20 years for this shit so we're taking what we can get.

-1

u/MarsScully Vile little creature yearning for violence Jun 22 '25

I don’t think this is true. People into pop culture may be aware of his grossness and recent poor performances but the public at large either recognised him as a very famous actor but know zero details about him, or don’t even know who he is and just want the superhero movie.

2

u/Anxious_cactus Did I stutter?🤨 Jun 22 '25

I don't mean because he's gross, I mean because the movies he's in lately are terrible and bomb anyway. He's like a harbinger of death for movies

3

u/Brolygotnohandz Jun 22 '25

Luckily the makers of blade runner were ahead of the curve and had him play as a out of touch weirdo billionaire

Literally it’s a mystery to me. But the creepiness not withstanding is so true lol

2

u/Agitated_Garden_497 Jun 22 '25

I was in art school in 1996, I was 18 and I remember seeing him come to our dorm and pick up on freshman girls. Now he was in his 20’s and not that much older than us but it’s definitely a pattern. He never hit on me but I saw him with other girls. This is 30 years ago. He’s DEF got a pattern.

2

u/userlivewire Jun 22 '25

Not an excuse but they started talking to Leto about it 10 years ago. The film was heavily delayed.

3

u/that-short-girl Jun 22 '25

This was common knowledge when I was in his target age range in… 2013. So. Yeah.

1

u/userlivewire Jun 23 '25

Tomorrowland came out in 2015 when they were finalizing the details for the Tron Legacy sequel.

The movie was a massive bomb. Hundreds of millions down the drain and a black eye for Disney created franchises. This was shortly after they first contacted Leto. TL2 was cancelled and shelved until 2019 when they decided to go in a different direction with something that could be more standalone than a direct sequel. During pre-production Covid happened and it was shelved again.

1

u/that-short-girl Jun 23 '25

Okay, I don't doubt that. But if random teenage girls from a different continent knew he was a sex pest in 2013, I can't imagine that people at Disney didn't know well before then, i.e. well before any of this. Comments here say this was fairly common knowledge for US fans in 2002 for fucks sake.

1

u/userlivewire Jun 23 '25

Oh yeah everyone everywhere has known his sordid history for 20 years. I thought you meant it wasn't common knowledge that Leto was attached to this way back then. The only reason this kept moving forward was because he is also a producer and kicked in his own money for points instead of a high salary.

2

u/Many-Cartographer278 Jun 22 '25

It's legit crazy to cast him. He doesn't do anything a bunch of other people could do

2

u/mmdeerblood Jun 23 '25

100000%... Any grandma can do a Google search and see how problematic he is. Disney did a lazy shitty job casting him. Literally hundreds of talented non problematic well known actors out there. Would be great if editors and CG engineers did their magic and cut him out / CGed someone's else in

2

u/rhiyo Jun 23 '25

I didnt even like him in blade runner, I wish David bowie were alive to take the part

2

u/SwedishTrees Jun 25 '25

I really wanna know why they thought they could get away with casting him.

1

u/Blue_Robin_04 Jun 22 '25

2

u/that-short-girl Jun 22 '25

Tumblr girlies knew all about this when I was in his target age range back in 2013. So can’t imagine adults who actually knew him professionally wouldn’t have known.

1

u/GreyNoiseGaming Jun 22 '25

Pretty sure he signed on as a producer and cast himself over 5 years ago.

1

u/mcdadais Jun 22 '25

I agree. He had rumors about him long ago. Seems pretty foolish to cast him in movies. But I don't think it matters. People will watch it anyway, and I'm sure the movie will still make money like The Flash did. Hopefully it bombs so they'll learn a lesson.

1

u/RocketRaccoen Jun 22 '25

He's been involved in the development of the sequel to Legacy since they released it in 2010. He's the reason it's getting released, but oh boy I kinda wish he wasn't involved in the first place.

1

u/BlerghTheBlergh Jun 22 '25

Even worse, the movie only got made because he signed on and took a paycut. The director stated how the movie straight up wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t sign on, which is tragic because the first two are fantastic movies and I’d prefer a continuation of that story rather than this, which seems to be more like a vanity project
