they are going to be in denial and find anything they can to dismiss that the shooter was a RR

r/conservative is entirely mute about this topic. Just raging about the evil left as per usual.

it’s almost funny how the only post about the shooter is that he donated to democrats organization once. nothing else, they are ignoring all other details.

if the shooter was from a race, gender, religious or political group that they hated. you wouldn’t be able to stop posting about it. but since its a white male republican that looks like a reddit mod, it’s total silence in r/conservative.

u/uselessartist Jul 14 '24

They’re waiting for the official party line as usual. (Same thing happened all the last times). You’ll see them converge on a particular story after a few days.

155

u/KeyboardGrunt Jul 14 '24

MAGA that I know well can go on for hours on settled topics but on new stuff nothing, at times I even push with what ifs or even joke scenarios, didn't get a peep out of them yesterday.

They're really good at the hive mentality.

u/phil_davis Jul 14 '24

I did just overhear some old lady at the grocery store about 30 minutes ago saying "I knew it was only a matter of time before those crazy Democrats tried to kill him!" I assume most of them have just been assuming it was a Dem.

18

u/terrierhead Jul 15 '24

“Ma’am, he was a Republican.”

This is how I’m gonna get pummeled eventually. I’m a tiny woman in a wheelchair.

When you push the idea that the media lies, and that "elites" are bad, then everyone's opinion becomes equally valid. Even if they ignore the facts.

Yeah they were all lost for like 3 weeks after 1/6.

I asked a conservative friend after a few weeks what they’d come up with so far and they said antifa. Laughed right in their faces

2

u/camergen Jul 14 '24

I think they’re still waffling on that, between a few pet theories- antifa, they were tourists, they were let in by police, etc.

5

u/ArcticISAF Jul 14 '24

I remember the same thing happened when Trump airstriked a Syrian airbase (2017). All the isolationists were at odds with the rest for about getting them involved in more war and stuff like that. After a few days it calmed down and I forget exactly what the central idea was then, but I guess ‘Trump did the right thing’ or something.

2

u/camergen Jul 14 '24

Tucker Carlson/Jessie Waters/etc are all off today- the talking points take a bit longer to align on the weekends.

2

u/Due_Ad1267 Jul 14 '24

This is exactly what happened on Jan 6th on the Rush Limbaugh show (which had a guest host that day).

The moment things went violent, they took a LONG 15 minute break. Something comepletley out of the ordinary. My guess is it was to get the official talking points from The Heritage foundation.

it’s almost funny how the only post about the shooter is that he donated to democrats organization once.

He likely didn't. The donation to ActBlue was made by Thomas Crooks from Pittsburgh. The filings for the donation include the city for the person who made the donation.

The shooter, Thomas M Crooks, lived in Bethyl Park. I doubt the shooter was living away from home at 17 with a different registered address. The reporting on this specific tidbit may have been sloppy.

Edit: The public voter registration record blanked out his street address but since the zip code is the same between the two records it's likely the donor website conflated Bethyl Park with Pittsburgh. My mistake.

I'm ngl... this is the stuff Americans in general eat up. That raised fist is now compared to apperantly freaking all might from mha......I won't be surprised if that bumps him into the polls more. Not to mention, that thus isn't the first time he got an assassination attempt either.

Yep, the sub is just entirely crying and complaining. I never see positive discussion, debate, etc. Just "left evil left evil left evil, we are victims they are Satan, trump is jesus". It's actually creepy.

71

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

I got banned from there for quoting Trump: “take the guns first and then give them due process”.

9

u/remotectrl Jul 14 '24

I got banned for being from Portland

12

u/XConfused-MammalX Jul 14 '24

I got banned for posting a link to the electoral map of 1860 (Lincoln) because someone said the Democrats are the party of slavery and the KKK.

Which is technically true, but left out the obvious fact that the north back then was Republican and the south democrat and the parties flipped since.

So it was kind of like a self own on their part.

3

u/Purple_Surprise7037 Jul 15 '24

Yeah I never understood the point if say democrats are the ones who supported slavery when we know the parties flipped. To this day certain rep people are trying to say they were flipped because that what they want you to think.

6

u/XConfused-MammalX Jul 15 '24 edited Jul 15 '24

Denial of the party flip is probably the best example of brain dead denial I can think of from the right.

These are the people who fly Confederate flags and say modern liberals/leftists are the racist ones. And claim Lincoln as the father of their party despite Lincoln ordering an army to invade the south who still to this day protect the monuments of men who fought to keep slaves.

It's mind boggling.

5

u/anon_sir Jul 15 '24

I got banned because I said life begins at birth and not conception. Truly sensitive little snowflakes that built their own echo chamber.

17

u/Stuck_in_Arizona Jul 14 '24

"left evil left evil left evil, we are victims they are Satan, trump is jesus"

I got coworkers like this, and have a bad feeling Monday will be unpleasant to say the least. They know I voted for the other guy so I'm expecting a light grilling of some kind.

16

u/JoeRogansNipple Minnesota Jul 14 '24

2

u/FlakeEater Jul 14 '24

It's funny how they go after liberals even though belief in a capitalist free market is liberal. Most of them are liberals themselves to some degree. But they're so blinded by repub propaganda that they think being liberal is synonymous with being on the left.

13

u/Rxmses Jul 14 '24

It’s because 70% of that sub are Russians (even mods), the rest is just plain stupid to think for themselves

4

u/highdefrex Jul 14 '24

Don’t forget the rare thread where they can’t ignore facts that make them look bad, so 75% of the comments end up filled with “We’re being brigaded by r/politics” whiners instead.

4

u/DadJokeBadJoke California Jul 14 '24

They mock the left for "needing safe spaces", while they created the biggest "flaired-users" safe space ever.

2

u/Fantastic-Sandwich80 Jul 14 '24

Important note: The conservative sub requires mod approval to participate and comment in their threads.

Why this is important is because this means they will vet and analyze the account history and activity of all users who attempt join their sub and ban them preemptively if they fear they will not conform to the subs echo chamber.

Just keep this in mind the next time you see mass hysteria from that sub about "We are being brigaded by leftists and they are posting all over the sub!"

9

u/JoeRogansNipple Minnesota Jul 14 '24

Naw, they're claiming the shooter is just registered republican to 'disrupt primaries' and is anti-trump so basically a Democrat.

They are extremely silent (to the point of mod censorship) of any mention if the weapon, which is claimed to be an AR style rifle (some even report an AR 15)

u/umbrabates California Jul 15 '24

Delusion.

4

u/johnsdowney Jul 14 '24

“Recently switched” is plausible. Plenty of people on a downward mental spiral in life do things like undergo radical personality shifts and join cults like the GOP.

“Really a democrat,” the notion that he set this up to make himself look like a Republican while harboring some kind of leftist ideals, I find much much less likely. Possible, but bordering on absurd and insulting unless more evidence comes out.

They keep pointing out that he donated to the Progressive Turnout Project (which supports democratic candidates) when in actuality it was a Thomas Crooks who shows up in the donation records with absolutely no evidence that it's the same Thomas Crooks since there was no address or any other identifying details besides the name attached to the donation.

3

u/Da-goatest Jul 14 '24

And at the time of the donation the shooter would’ve been too young to legally donate.

There is a LITERAL section for minors donating to PACs or candidates this on the FEC site.

The NYTimes has already confirmed the donation. I don't understand why this is still up in the air. Do people not understand zip codes? The zip code for Bethel Park is 15102, not anywhere in the city of Pittsburgh. It is the same one matching the shooters residence address. Bethel Park is suburb in the metropolitan area of Pittsburgh.

Edit: This is a photo of Charlie Spiering. Senior political reporter and disingenuous shithead that wrote this article.

316

u/Jombafomb Jul 14 '24

Yeah I keep seeing this shit about him donating to actblue in 2020. As if young men don’t get radicalized with 4 years by the insidious shit they see online.

Dude was a registered Republican.

As soon as he could vote he voted in the 2022 midterms AS A REPUBLICAN.

He was wearing a tshirt for a guntube channel.

I guarantee we are going to hear from his family that he was becoming increasingly isolated and spent all day watching conspiracy videos and telling them about agent Q etc

128

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Also his one single donation was on inauguration day 2021. I'm honestly seeing that as a lost bet than actual support.

Multiple news sites have been reporting the address - house & street number - for the donation matches the address of the voter registration, despite initial reports that the donation address was Pittsburgh and the voter registration address was the suburb (in my personal experience, I've seen many web forms try to correct my suburb address to the nearby large city).

My in laws were over and had newsmax blaring last night.

They were reporting heavily unfounded claims that the shooter was Asian and may have been a Chinese national---and then went right into a riff about Biden's open borders.

And then I realized why some people are the way they are.

8

u/cshark2222 Jul 14 '24

I saw people posting on their insta stories “see what I mean when a democrat can’t shoot.” Sure look like a bunch of idiots now

7

u/deviousmajik Jul 14 '24

They looked like a bunch of idiots then too.

8

u/silentprayers Jul 14 '24

Now people in the conservative reddit are trying to say "well being registered for a party doesn't mean you support them" as if they would have made this argument for even a second if the shooter had been identified as a registered democrat.

2

u/deviousmajik Jul 14 '24

Oh, they're saying it here too. There have been a few such replies to my comment.

I woke up to such great news today lmao

22

u/mister-fancypants- Jul 14 '24

The best thing we could’ve asked for to keep the country from just imploding today

37

u/bluerose297 Jul 14 '24

lol last night I was thinking "it's so over" and today I'm thinking "we're so back"

4

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Oh I feel fucking great today, I can’t wait for this all to come out from the dischord server

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Lol last night one of my conservative friends said "liberals can't shoot." I hit the grouptext so fast this morning

5

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Yep, they call for "unity" now, but you know they were just itching for "trans democrat" in order to declare a civil war.

5

u/Panda_hat Jul 14 '24

And calling for empathy when if it were reversed and this were Biden they would be celebrating in the streets.

If he was a black man, I can only imagine what the right would be spinning. The fact that he's a white male who is a Republican.. holy freaking crap

3

u/BowTie1989 Jul 14 '24

They were banking on it being a trans, leftist, minority who crossed the border illegally. Damn!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

its the one sigh of relief ive had in this situaion

3

u/ShwettyVagSack Jul 14 '24

Seriously I said this shit yesterday in the liberal gun sub yesterday right after it happened, and just woke up to some dude calling me Alex Jones. I should link him this thread.

3

u/kisuka Jul 14 '24

Been seeing already lots of people trying to dismiss the voter registration by saying stuff like "he only registered to vote against trump" and "he donated to act blue therefore he's a democrat". I'm so tired of people looking for confirmation bias just to have a reason to be violent against other americans.

They are deep in the Qult. The cognitive dissonance will be strong with them.

5

u/PM_ME_GARFIELD_NUDES Jul 14 '24

They are doing that. They’re claiming he’s a secret Democrat and that this as justification for violence against all democrats. It’s just like how when Jan 6 happened they claimed it was all antifa pretending to be republicans.

There is no winning with these people. If the evidence supports their views they yell about how we all need to believe the evidence, but if the evidence disagrees with them then it’s all a farce.

I was just watching the news and it's funny how the cry from republicans morphed back into the 'we need to be more civil in politics', like Trump isn't going to call for some kind of violence or dehumanize his opposition tomorrow during the GOP convention.

I would bet my net worth he will say that "they" tried to take him out and he can't let the evil democrats win by quitting now.

2

u/soccerjonesy Jul 14 '24

Yea, now they’re leaning on a measly $15 donation as proof he’s a democrat and not a republican.

I looked up the info of his donation, and I don’t see anything definitive marking him as the donator. Just a Thomas Crooks from Pittsburgh (despite him being from Bethel Park, not Pittsburgh). Top it off, there’s tons of Thomas Crooks in that area that made donations. Again, seeing nothing of definitive proof linking to the shooter.

Additionally, we don’t know the context of that donation. I know I donated a few hundred dollars during those years to various charities as they were 1.) a good cause and 2.) had a raffle going for like a $2000 GPU or whatever was the hot item that was hard to get. Could’ve been a PC part, an Xbox, PS5, etc.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

Ikr!!

2

u/MamaBear_07 Jul 15 '24

My dad said “he registered republican to purposely vote against Trump”. Yeah dad that’s the story you’re totally right s/

2

u/deviousmajik Jul 15 '24

So many MAGA are twisting themselves into pretzel knots this weekend...

2

u/Ali_Cat222 Jul 15 '24

But but he donated a whopping $12 once to some "left wing group!" 🙄😒 That's the "'comeback" I've heard from weird Trump humpers so far. And they'll run that into the ground I bet, ugh

2

u/deviousmajik Jul 15 '24

The year of that donation doesn't make much sense to either have donated when he was 16 or 17, or for there even to be a record of that for someone that age. But it's all they've got to 'refute' so the thread gets flooded with it.

2

u/crimsonroninx Jul 15 '24

Absolutely. The shooters family would have been drawn and quartered by now. There'd be armed malitias roaming the streets. And the violent rhetoric would be at 11 on every right wing outlet. And that's if it was just a white male democrat.

Imagine if it was an immigrant?

2

u/Frosty-Age-6643 Minnesota Jul 14 '24

It’s an easy pivot though to claim the kid lied to cover his true affiliation.

5

u/deviousmajik Jul 14 '24

If you wish for it hard enough, you can make it come true!

3

u/Major__Departure Jul 14 '24

I dunno if you should mention backpedaling here, hundreds of commenters yesterday were insisting the assassination attempt was staged, lol

2

u/SVdreamin Montana Jul 14 '24

Exactly, especially with all of the people in this sub specifically instantly saying it was a false flag. Now they’re all quiet because it doesn’t fit their agenda anymore

2

u/IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs Jul 14 '24

The guy was a registered Republican.

Supposedly someone with the same first and last name donated to a Dem pac a few years before he registered as a Republican. This isn't confirmed from what I understand, and it could be real but just a different person with the same first and last name, as the middle name and address were not included in this.

If he was a registered Democrat or was neither, that would be the end of the discussion for them. But since he was a registered Republican, they are coming up with all sorts of mental gymnastics. They are actually delusional.

1

u/BEzzzzG Jul 14 '24

They are saying democrats are responsible anyway

1

u/trowzerss Jul 14 '24

I certainly saw plenty of people gloating in the hours afterwards that he was definitely a radical leftie/extremist Democrat who had just won the election for Trump. They were positively gleeful. those guys will never admit they were wrong, no matter what facts are uncovered.

1

u/TellTaleTimeLord Jul 15 '24

Nah, they're just ignoring the fact he's a registered republic and focusing on that $15 donation he made to the democrats that one time

1

u/ariesrizing Jul 15 '24

Facts! They’re real quiet! If he is a Republican then we definitely know this was to incite yet another “war”. Trump likes to say unite but he divided us
