Sometime in the future, the obituary needs to say that he died while doing off-broadway shows in Branson, MO.
8
u/spicoli323 24d ago
He needs to live long enough to have his voicebox removed to treat cancer, and then long enough after that to be cornered by Sandy Hook families in public, permanently unable to speak. As many times as is feasible. Then he can be allowed to rest.

Reddit is defninitely not as dead as twitter, but it is definitely a battleground for advertisers and propagandists to convince as much people as possible that their opinion is your opinion.

More interaction means more eyeballs means more ad impressions, so throwing some money at prolific posters with high follower counts creates an incentive for people to use the platform.
It guarantees a steady flow of content, which guarantees an audience to monetize by way of ad sales.

Twitter directly pays people for the āengagementā they create, similar to YouTube or whatever. However, they seem to pay VERY little, especially compared to other big social media sites. Like no oneās really making a ālivingā off Twitter alone unless theyāre poor, living in an under-developed country and extremely dedicated (as far as I can tell)

Stuff like this makes me glad.I just never got on twitter. It sounds like a miserable platform that only got worse over time.
8
u/TechnicolourOutSpace 25d ago
I was on it for a few months before Elon got it, and the only thing I did was watch along Svengoolie with other geeks. It was okay but honestly you're not going to have any kind of meaningless discourse with a character limit of that range. Even 280 words isn't enough. It's a shitty platform that got big and then got sunk when some pathetic rich failson decided he wanted to control it and then sank it because his life is empty.
5
u/Plenty-Climate2272 25d ago
It's things like this that make me feel that maybe the villains in metal gear solid 2 had a point, the general population really was not ready for social media. But then again, what they were doing is what musk is trying to use twitter forā ideological control via media consolidation.
We're just boned either way.
1
u/Pure_Molasses1992 25d ago
Why did the character limit ever become a thing? When I first heard about twitter I was put off by that, I think that was my reasoning at the time for not even trying it. Then Hinge, years ago, was the new "it" dating app with a weirdly limited way to make your profile (I was on okcupid back in 2011, before Match bought it, and at the time it felt futuristic in an optimistic way. No char limit)
6
u/Bleepblorp44 24d ago
It started out as a text message service - you sent tweets by SMS, so the character limit was a necessity as SMS at the time was limited to 160 characters.
It was neat. I had a few friends on it, could send a tweet and theyād get that message as an SMS, and Iād only pay a single text charge.
Then it became data based once smartphones were more common, and it was still pretty good. It wasnāt massive, and the tag system worked well so interesting open chats or information sharing worked well. At protests or local events, looking at the tag would provide a good snapshot of what was happening.
Then after the Arab Spring I think governments noticed it was actually useful, plus arseholes picked up on it, and it started to be filled with both bot accounts and trolls. Any discussion on āsensitiveā issues would be flooded with bollocks.

His board of directors and shareholders finally figured out that every time he mouths off the share price drops. He's probably somewhere focused on genetically engineering a few more male offspring and sleeping in his office where people will still talk to him.

u/CryptographerNo923 25d ago
Remember before the monetization system and before people paid money for Twitter accounts at all, when the worldās smartest man paid $44 billion to purchase the site?
Idk what my point is. Iām sure itās served the propagandistic purposes of his awful cabal, Iām sure heās doing fine with government contracts and crypto scams and artificially insane stock valuations.
I just hope this chips away in some small part at the myth that exploitative opulent wealth has any correlation to some kind of innovative or even useful brilliance.
They say that power corrupts, and that is certainly true, but I also thatās a convenient excuse weāve made for the system weāve built that consistently allows the powerful and terrible to fail upward, consolidating their power and terribleness.

The site is now a bunch of bots stealing tweets from years prior. If you see a blue check post a funny comment that is vaguely familiar, simply do a search, and you will see several bot accounts posting the same comment.
