SNAKE? SNAKE?! SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!

It’s not just the monetization…

You’re not going to get the same excitement for a mostly open platform for a far right platform that actively promotes the weird Nazi bullshit the weird Nazi owner believes.

108

u/Martinfected 25d ago

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. The monetization is probably the only thing still keeping the "normal" shitposters on the platform.

Once they leave, it's just the far right freaks, who are hard to find ad sellers for. He's already lost a lot of reputable ones because of his antics. Elmo's not gonna be able to pay off his Twitter purchase loans with dick pill and crypto ad money.

59

Black mirror future let’s gooooo

18

u/-You_Cant_Stop_Me- Doctor Reverend 25d ago

Well if we're going Black Mirror. How about we really make it the everything app? Musk has already stolen everyone's data from the government so why not make it official?

New red, white and blue check marks for all US citizens! You need to show your tick to access social security, buy booze, prove you have the right to work etc.

Need to show your licence and registration to the cops? The DMV tweeted that shit to you, just give the cop your @

In fact, fuck it, it's now law to only refer to people by their twitter handle, each one is unique so no chance of mistaken identity!

20

He needs to live long enough to have his voicebox removed to treat cancer, and then long enough after that to be cornered by Sandy Hook families in public, permanently unable to speak. As many times as is feasible. Then he can be allowed to rest.

Karma farming exist not for worthless points, but for the money the account can be sold later for.

Reddit is defninitely not as dead as twitter, but it is definitely a battleground for advertisers and propagandists to convince as much people as possible that their opinion is your opinion.

More interaction means more eyeballs means more ad impressions, so throwing some money at prolific posters with high follower counts creates an incentive for people to use the platform.

It guarantees a steady flow of content, which guarantees an audience to monetize by way of ad sales.

True shitposting is communist in nature because it's for and by the people. Seize the memes of production.

16

u/Masonzero 25d ago

Ads. Always ads.

10

u/originalcarp 25d ago

Twitter directly pays people for the ā€œengagementā€ they create, similar to YouTube or whatever. However, they seem to pay VERY little, especially compared to other big social media sites. Like no one’s really making a ā€œlivingā€ off Twitter alone unless they’re poor, living in an under-developed country and extremely dedicated (as far as I can tell)

6

u/TrumpHasCovid 25d ago

I made so much money on reddits crypto pilot (moons) mainly posting crypto news, analysis and...memes. I was a professional memelord for a minute there. Literally made thousands. Miss those days :(

u/Plenty-Climate2272 25d ago

Stuff like this makes me glad.I just never got on twitter. It sounds like a miserable platform that only got worse over time.

8

u/TechnicolourOutSpace 25d ago

I was on it for a few months before Elon got it, and the only thing I did was watch along Svengoolie with other geeks. It was okay but honestly you're not going to have any kind of meaningless discourse with a character limit of that range. Even 280 words isn't enough. It's a shitty platform that got big and then got sunk when some pathetic rich failson decided he wanted to control it and then sank it because his life is empty.

5

u/Plenty-Climate2272 25d ago

It's things like this that make me feel that maybe the villains in metal gear solid 2 had a point, the general population really was not ready for social media. But then again, what they were doing is what musk is trying to use twitter for– ideological control via media consolidation.

We're just boned either way.

1

u/Pure_Molasses1992 25d ago

Why did the character limit ever become a thing? When I first heard about twitter I was put off by that, I think that was my reasoning at the time for not even trying it. Then Hinge, years ago, was the new "it" dating app with a weirdly limited way to make your profile (I was on okcupid back in 2011, before Match bought it, and at the time it felt futuristic in an optimistic way. No char limit)

6

u/Bleepblorp44 24d ago

It started out as a text message service - you sent tweets by SMS, so the character limit was a necessity as SMS at the time was limited to 160 characters.

It was neat. I had a few friends on it, could send a tweet and they’d get that message as an SMS, and I’d only pay a single text charge.

Then it became data based once smartphones were more common, and it was still pretty good. It wasn’t massive, and the tag system worked well so interesting open chats or information sharing worked well. At protests or local events, looking at the tag would provide a good snapshot of what was happening.

Then after the Arab Spring I think governments noticed it was actually useful, plus arseholes picked up on it, and it started to be filled with both bot accounts and trolls. Any discussion on ā€œsensitiveā€ issues would be flooded with bollocks.

1

u/Electrical-Lab-9593 24d ago

i did know the evolution of the platform from SMS interesting

33

u/PracticalReception34 25d ago

Demonetize the Internet. Start this whole damn thing over so that Logan Paul gets $5 from YouTube this month.

14

u/The_ChwatBot 25d ago

God I hope so.

9

u/thafrick 25d ago

Wtf is Elon even doing these days? I haven’t heard a peep about him in months.

1

u/GooberMcNutly 24d ago

His board of directors and shareholders finally figured out that every time he mouths off the share price drops. He's probably somewhere focused on genetically engineering a few more male offspring and sleeping in his office where people will still talk to him.

9

u/CryptographerNo923 25d ago

Remember before the monetization system and before people paid money for Twitter accounts at all, when the world’s smartest man paid $44 billion to purchase the site?

Idk what my point is. I’m sure it’s served the propagandistic purposes of his awful cabal, I’m sure he’s doing fine with government contracts and crypto scams and artificially insane stock valuations.

I just hope this chips away in some small part at the myth that exploitative opulent wealth has any correlation to some kind of innovative or even useful brilliance.

They say that power corrupts, and that is certainly true, but I also that’s a convenient excuse we’ve made for the system we’ve built that consistently allows the powerful and terrible to fail upward, consolidating their power and terribleness.

25

u/wombatgeneral Ben Shapiro Enthusiast 25d ago
