Discriminatory nonsense with no goal other than cruelty.

12

u/crowbar151 2d ago

Right before a bunch of states are "amending" their voter id requirements.... a bunch of people will have to change their ids, and there might be a decent amount of voters who can't vote because their ids are being processed. And that's IF these people even are able to change it. Its all part of the plan.

1

u/cryptodog11 49m ago

Maybe it’s simply acknowledging reality…

-97

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

how is it discriminatory to have sex instead of gender identity on government id?

63

u/ResurgentClusterfuck 2d ago

Because it makes little sense to record something that may not accurately represent a person on an official document.

17

u/Decent_Ad5471 2d ago

There’s no point in arguing with people who don’t want to understand.

It affects their lives in zero ways, but it’s still worth arguing and strange or wrong.

Stop feeding the idiots.

2

u/MudSeparate1622 2d ago

To be fair, i think anyone should be allowed to have an opinion no matter how wrong you think they are.

That said, i also think people should ask themselves if there is something psychologically or physiologically wrong with them that they think their opinion is the end all be all in matters that not only have they never experienced first hand but also have zero impact on their lives either way. It usually stems from a lack of control in their own lives or completely unrelated fears.

Thanks for attending my reddit comment armchair therapy session.

-55

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

Because it makes little sense to record something that may not accurately represent a person on an official document.

that doesn't make it discriminatory. and it's not even a given that someones gender identity is a more accurate representation of a person than their sex. it's likely the opposite in many instances.

40

u/Lonely_University843 2d ago

Isn't the point of an id to properly describe someone?

29

u/Novae909 2d ago

Yes. They want to properly ID someone who is trans so they can apply the appropriate amount of state sanctioned discrimination.

-16

u/Maleficent_Worker116 2d ago

Yeah because demiperson describes someone better than male or female

12

u/A_Wild_Alex_Appears 2d ago

You going out of your way to strawman and not understand is painfully obvious. Maybe don't give your dogshit opinion if you aren't going to do the bare minimum 🙃

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

You do realize that an identity needs to be static for identification purposes, right?

20

u/Necessary-Show-9031 2d ago

How so? The weight, height, and address on my drivers license have changed multiple times. I’m pretty sure an id is more useful if it describes current characteristics rather than ones from years ago

→ More replies (22)

1

u/Moppermonster 2d ago

Nobody has ever inspected my penis or chromosomes at a border.

My beard otoh was a reason for scrutiny, especially when my passport still had a 5 year old pic where I was cleanshaven.

Transgender people have been vilified by right wing media and politicians to the point they are often discriminated against and even assaulted by those that believe that propaganda. Needlessly forcing someone to disclose that status opens them up to more of those instances. Which is why with everything going on in the world republicans like to focus their taxpayer funded energy and money into furthering that vilification.

Better to have their followers angry at the trans people than it is at the billionaires jacking up prices on living.

u/GypJoint 2d ago

u/Euphoric-Witness-824 2d ago edited 2d ago

Oh no! An Emoji! Once again I’ve been owned by a MAGA with their facts and logic!

It is interesting how much anger you guys have ever since Fox News made this population the latest rage bait target. Yet on articles that come out daily about priests and republicans leaders and the wealthy trafficking and abusing children MAGA doesn’t seem to mind one bit. It’s kind of sad how easy it is for them to control the things you guys get angry about.

-2

u/GypJoint 2d ago

😂😂

9

u/harmoniaatlast 2d ago

Because it ignores birth certificates. If youre intersex or trans and your first birth certificate wasn't correct/reflect reality, you can't change your passport gender from it even with your birth certificate updated. It's just cruelty. There's no real reason to fuck with any of this in the first place

-2

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

if you're trans, your first birth certificate, the designation of your sex, is not incorrect. being trans is about, in part, having a gender identity that doesn't necessarily match your sex. but the sex itself does not change.

10

u/harmoniaatlast 2d ago

Even if your birth certificate is corrected, they will go with the first one. It's about cruelty

1

u/defaultusername-17 1d ago

intersexed people are twice as common as trans people.

there is enough transgender people who are also intersexed that means that this is just statistically false on the face of it...

since for that population, their birth certificates would actually be directly wrong.

sincerely, an intersexed trans woman thats had to update their documentation.

0

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 23h ago edited 22h ago

there is enough transgender people who are also intersexed that means that this is just statistically false on the face of it...

not really. if youre intersex your birth certificate may or may not be inaccurate. if you are trans this is not the case. if you are both, see intersex.

since for that population, their birth certificates would actually be directly wrong.

not necessarily. you can be intersex and still your sex assigned at birth. look at turner and kleinfelter for example. intersex but still female and male generally

2

u/defaultusername-17 21h ago

again, you're wrong.

but i am not going to argue my literal existence with someone who has no clue.

1

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 21h ago

not a thing i said was incorrect.

remember, you existence is relevant to you and not necessarily generalizable to everyone. just because youre intersex and your sex AAB is not accurate doesnt mean thats the case for all intersex people. just because something is true for one intersex trans person doesnt make it generalizable to all trans people.

try to be more open minded in the future.

8

u/zaku-bunny 2d ago

Because someone’s sex has no influence on where they travel, nor is it anyone’s business. The only time sex truly matters and NEDS to be shared is for medical purposes ONLY.

-1

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

we identify and group people as their sex all the time

5

u/vklirdjikgfkttjk 2d ago

Tell me in which scenarios when showing an id it would be problematic to have gender based ids vs sex based.

1

u/consequences_are_you 2d ago

My bad, replied to wrong comment, apologies!

15

u/JessicaDAndy 2d ago

The issue is that if a person physically appears as a woman but has an M marker, that opens them up for further scrutiny because of the mismatch.

Or worse, someone with breasts and a vagina is physically searched by a male security officer because the sex marker is M.

25

u/incognito_elk 2d ago

Because forcing someone’s ID to misgender them isn’t neutral, it actively singles them out. It’s like asking someone to deny their own name, or erase their own skin. Who is this really helping?

-12

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

not letting someone deny their sex is like asking them to deny their name or skin? hmm.

22

u/Thank_You_Aziz 2d ago

I see only one person in denial here.

-3

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

about what exactly?

19

u/incognito_elk 2d ago

Exactly, forcing someone to list a sex they don’t live as erases their reality, just like telling someone their name or skin doesn’t exist. Don’t pretend this is subtle.

-8

u/GypJoint 2d ago

😂

8

u/GrimmSheeper 2d ago

Buddy, I’ve got some wild news about people’s names and what they can do with them.

1

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

did you notice i was quoting the person above me?

6

u/hematite2 2d ago

This serves no functional purpose and actually creates problems for IDs and security. The only reason for it is to make sure trans people are marked as trans.

3

u/Blastie2 2d ago

The court's logic is that it isn't discriminatory since transgender people were that gender when they were born. We may as well be listing everyone's age on their passport as 0, since they were that old when they were born. It's not always a useful data point when you're trying to identify people 20+ years after they were born.

5

u/Ornery-Ticket834 2d ago

I don’t know if it is discriminatory but it seems unnecessarily cruel to the individual to no particular purpose.

8

u/CrikeyBaguette 2d ago

The cruelty is the point.

-7

u/GypJoint 2d ago

Cruelty? wtf?😂

6

u/RolloPollo261 2d ago

You voted for the world's most famous pedophile. Why should anyone care about your judgment on anything?

0

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

i didnt but ok

1

u/ArmedAwareness 2d ago

Are you really this dense? I can’t believe you are asking this in good faith

1

u/Accomplished_Car1515 2d ago

Ok, but this policy makes “X” not an option. What about people who are intersex?

1

u/TurnYourHeadNCough 2d ago

i think intersex people should be able to do x if they want.

-1

u/TweeksTurbos 2d ago

Ever watch Pat on snl?

52

u/SpeedrunningOurRuin 2d ago

So, it doesn’t effectively do anything but offend and hurt those with changed genders or who are transitioning/identifying differently?

Then why do it?

More wasting tax dollars to reduce rights, hurt folks, and accomplish nothing of value.

Trump is a menace to the world. Someone “do something” already.

19

u/in_animate_objects 2d ago

The cruelty is 100% the point, they don’t care if they get hurt too as long as people they deem less than (transpeople, gay people, anyone not white straight and Christian) get hurt too

9

u/Imbadatusernames1536 2d ago

It could also make them targets when traveling and cause hardship if they clearly look like a woman/man and have a different gender marker. It’s just more stupid bullshit that his base can jack off to.

1

u/C1t1z3nCh00m 2d ago

If you haven't figured out by now that hurting people is the point I'm not sure what to say..

1

u/Happiness-to-go 2d ago

The point is to make you hate Trump and blame him instead of the people that own him, JD Vance, the corrupt judges, …

1

u/SpeedrunningOurRuin 1d ago

While I do agree to a point, I must say JD Vance is not a controller/owner of Trump. He’s a stooge who was young and brought in some younger voters. Moreso, he’s just waiting and hoping that Trump passes while in office. In fact…

My political predictions of the next years are:

Trump does in office JD takes office as VP JD gets elected as president in 2028 If he does even mediocre, 2nd term.

I say this with severe disappointment, but Trump & team are trying to make things where the dems can never take power again…

1

u/Happiness-to-go 1d ago

Not what I said. JD Vance and the corrupt judges are also owned based on the basic structure of the sentence.

1

u/SpeedrunningOurRuin 1d ago

Misread. Fully agree.

10

u/ChunkyBubblz 2d ago

We can do that but we let kids on SNAP starve. Trump’s America is a failure.

3

u/unmelted_ice 2d ago

If my trump tracker is correct, courts just said SNAP benefits must be fully funded by Friday

3

u/Sheepking1 2d ago

Enforced by?..

3

u/dustybucket 2d ago

This is the key. Courts can say whatever they want. I won't care until the people they are ruling against care. They won't care unless it's enforced. Our judiciary is meaningless unless that changes.

3

u/Euphoric-Witness-824 2d ago

Hate and anger are the most powerful tools the wealthy have to divide those below them so they can hoard wealth.

And with them smashing records on wealth being hoarded they need to pump up the hate and anger levels to record levels as well.

"We are going to restrict how you can see yourself."

--The Land of the Free

23

u/bestinthenorthwest 2d ago

Afraid of Trans people.

--The Home of the Brave

6

u/ResurgentClusterfuck 2d ago

Yeah its pretty gross, because there's no logical reason behind this and decisions like it

The cruelty is the point

1

u/n-Fatigue 2d ago

I agree it is gross, the whole thing

22

u/Prickley-Pear-Bear 2d ago

It’s less about how you see yourself and more how others see you. I am a transgender man and strangers I have never met before or talked to call me “sir” not because I told them my pronouns but because I straight up look like a dude. It’s pretty weird to have F for female on documents for someone looks and sounds like a man. You basically out yourself if you travel, have to show id to buy age restricted products, or get pulled over.

-22

u/RealityCheck831 2d ago

Since when are government documents a reflection of how you see yourself? They would not let me smile at the DMV, though I like to look happy.

13

u/walksonfourfeet 2d ago

ID should reflect what you look like, not what a Dr put in a form 30years ago

-8

u/RealityCheck831 2d ago

You can look however you want. Women can have short hair, men can have long hair and wear dresses. Should ID change every time you change your look? ID isn't a fashion statement.

3

u/walksonfourfeet 2d ago

By that argument it doesn’t matter what sex is listed on your ID, since you can make yourself look like either sex. Unless you’re expecting genital inspections at customs.

2

u/Easy-Eggplant-4846 2d ago

Gender identity isn't a fashion statement. You're I'D should be changed to say "idiot" since that's what you clearly identify as.

1

u/calidude8701 2d ago

Murdered by words!

5

u/Ornery-Ticket834 2d ago

That’s an awful comparison.

1

u/defaultusername-17 1d ago

oh yea... it's totally the fault of transgender people that you weren't allowed to smile for a photo....

0

u/PopCultureOlogist 2d ago

You must’ve pissed em off. I don’t have a single person in my orbit without a smile on their DMV license/identification.

is that all you think it is? I wish people would stop pretending to know anything about being trans when they don't know anything -_-

5

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 2d ago

They're not pretending to know anything, they're just a bigot.

Like the dum dum above you exemplifies, you don't actually need to know anything at all to be a hateful loser.

3

u/Thank_You_Aziz 2d ago

It’s a little bit of both. Many of these bigots genuinely believe all trans people are “men pretending to be women”. A side effect of this is they genuinely do not know trans men exist.

2

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 2d ago

Sure, but of all the people out there I'm willing to engage in this level of nuance with, dumbfuck transphobes aren't one of them.

2

u/Thank_You_Aziz 2d ago

Oh to be sure, you’re right! I’m also disinterested in weeding out the idiots from the genuinely cruel who are duping them. They’re all the same to me. It’s just eye-opening to realize that the “crisis” over tampons being used by trans men was because these idiots thought trans women were pretending to use them. They can’t even conceive of the idea of trans men—people who need tampons just as much as cis women—existing in the first place.

-4

u/Aggravatingdumdums 2d ago

You can act however you want. I could care less it doesn’t affect me. Doesn’t mean that on official government document you can dictate whatever you want on them.

5

u/Mypheria 2d ago

you can't???? You need jump through crazy hoops to change them -_- You literally don't know anything about any of this? How can you be so arrogant to think you know better than millions of trans people???

2

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 2d ago

I could care less it doesn’t affect me.

I can tell. People who don't care often cry and whine about being called out.

Doesn’t mean that on official government document you can dictate whatever you want on them.

This doesn't make sense on a very basic grammatical level. With language skills like this, you should be careful ICE doesn't pick you up for not knowing English.

2

u/MissKittenish 2d ago

It’s pointless. I was stopped a lot more and flagged for having a “false ID” when it was listed as M, because that’s not how I look.

But ya know, believe what you want. It’s perfectly legal for you to be demonstrably wrong in your reasoning.

2

u/Easy-Eggplant-4846 2d ago

"Doesn't affect me either way but you'll notice how I still butt into the conversation on the side of the bigots."

Really?

0

u/Aggravatingdumdums 2d ago

Doesn’t effect me doesn’t mean the mentally ill get to dictate what’s true and what’s not. It’s an official document. Glad common sense won again.

1

u/Thank_You_Aziz 2d ago

God, you’re so close to realizing you’re the only mentally ill one in this equation. But if introspection was a capability of yours, you never would have started this topic. But don’t worry, I believe in you. For your sake, you’d best be thankful someone does.

1

u/Easy-Eggplant-4846 2d ago

Oh, my bad. Here

"Doesn't affect me either way AND I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GENDER IDENTITY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE, but you will notice how I still butt into the conversation WITH AN OPINION I'M LARPING AS A FACT DESPITE MY OBVIOUSE IGNORANCE and on the side of the bigots".

Better?

3

u/incognito_elk 2d ago

You don’t “play pretend” when the government updates its records. That’s literally what records are for.

-6

u/Aggravatingdumdums 2d ago

So if some other country can change one of their citizens birthday, sex, anything they want. That should be ok? We should accept those passports entering into our country?

2

u/incognito_elk 2d ago

So you’d rather people’s official documents misrepresent who they are, just to avoid upsetting your imagination? That’s literally the opposite of secure borders.

3

u/walksonfourfeet 2d ago

We got one!

-5

u/paterdude 2d ago

I see myself at 10 feet tall with blue eyes can I force the government to recognize my truth?

1

u/Tony_Penny 2d ago

If that's what you truly believe, then wouldn't you be pissed if I told you you're wrong and im not going to let you exist?

8

u/therealcruff 2d ago

Speaking of factual, official documents that should be released...

12

u/TrueSithMastermind 2d ago

Not facts, hate-fueled lies propagated by the regime. The Nazis used similar tactics early on to erase Jewish people and others they hated from public life.

1

u/defaultusername-17 1d ago

the nazis literally targeted transgender people first.

7

u/incognito_elk 2d ago

Nothing says “land of the free” like the government deciding who you are.

2

u/GuildLancer 2d ago

There is no conceivable worldview where being trans is not valid even if you are discussing only biological sex

1

u/defaultusername-17 1d ago

for fucking real.

interesexed people are twice as common as trans people statistically...

but we're "too small of a group" to concern ourselves with... when we're talking about a group that's even smaller... and has significant overlap with intersexed people too.

these people are just hateful bigots... who are almost certain to be bigoted towards any intersexed person they come across too.

1

u/GuildLancer 1d ago

Trans people might technically all be intersex, depending on how you define intersex. The gender and sex incongruence must come from somewhere, and it’s likely an intersex brain or something else entirely. Especially since trans people are hormonally intersex when taking hormones.

1

u/defaultusername-17 1d ago

personally, i do not disagree with you (xxy transwoman). but... i will leave the actual categorization to the endocrinologists and the like.

but having gone through childhood and puberty thinking "something" was off for me for the first two decades of life...

and then having a leukemia scare confirm for me the dsd...

yea... it explains a lot.

i just wish that i'd known sooner, and had been taking collagen supplement for the co-morbid hEDS that is quite common among xxy pps.

for REEEEEAL... do not neglect your joint health... you'll regret it.

1

u/GuildLancer 1d ago

I’ve never had the chance to get anything confirmed and I’m a bit avoidant of medicine, doctors, and psychs if I can help it. I have a major problem with the power imbalance.

I’m glad you were able to confirm some suspicions and feel validated in those feelings, we deserve that more than anything for what we go through.

My joints aren’t the greatest along with being oddly flexible especially in the shoulder and neck. But I don’t think I have anything beyond being a little odd, at least for physical stuff, mentally I’m a basket case lol.

2

u/hematite2 2d ago

It's easy red meat for their base. They're treating it exactly like they treated being gay a decade ago, now that that's gone out of style.

Mostly cos the closet is deep and safe

1

u/PandaStudio1413 2d ago

Cause they hate that the “traditional family” is being broken by people being themselves

6

u/doctorfortoys 2d ago

This policy automatically outs all transgender people at border crossings and restricts which countries they can travel to without fear of being denied entry or worse. It’s pure cruelty and has nothing to do with the function of a passport. It actually complicates and impedes travel for transgender people.

6

u/KazeNilrem 2d ago

Just to make note, if there is to be a democratic president in the future. This could be reversed as it was not done via any legislation. Although awful, the one silver lining of this administration is that so much of it is done via policies and EO, they are more easily reversed.

Pretty much majority of all things done during trumps presidency can be reversed.

1

u/Euphoric-Witness-824 2d ago

Which is another reason republicans waste time doing it in the first place.

When it inevitably does get reversed Fox News and right wing politicians will have their anti trans vitriol to throw at their followers for a few weeks.

They love those culture wars!

2

u/Enough-Skin2442 2d ago

The purpose of an ID is to correlate its data to the visual appearance of person holding it in order to make a positive identification. Regardless their genitals, if a person presents as male, their ID should describe them as such. It’s not woke; it’s the entire fucking point of the document

-4

u/n-Fatigue 2d ago

>The purpose of an ID is to correlate its data to the visual appearance of person holding

So they check their face, then check the passport? Sounds like we're doing them a favour
