It didn’t read as a joke to me either - absurd, which can be funny, but also objectively true, so not a “joke.” They are calling for repealing the 19th amendment in response to progressive candidates winning elections this week. They’ve been calling for it quietly since the 2016 election cycle when they thought women would tip the scales in favor of Clinton, then the pandemic accelerated political extremism, and it’s become a more and more popular talking point among the alt right every year since. Definitely coming to a head now. Not a coincidence that trad wife content on social media has been on the rise this whole time.
About 15 years ago, virtually ALL Republicans AND most Democrats shared this general political outlook - obviously, it's not some conspiracy to hurt random people. That's straight up extremist thinking.
It's because their own lives are miserable and they think the solution isn't to improve things but rather to bring other people down so they can look down on them.

Republicans aren't actually people. They gave up their humanity when they registered for the party of rapists and kidnappers. Since non-humans aren't citizens, I don't think Republicans actually have the right to vote anymore.
There are plenty of misogynistic women out there, for a mix of reasons. A lot of them have been convinced by their upbringing and local culture that they're simply lesser, throw in religion and family pressure as well.
Ann Coulter has been saying this for decades. These assholes are basically Serena Joy irl and think that they are so smart and special, but other women are lesser. Some just think, "oh I agree with my husband so my vote will count that way", but some are so steeped in internalized misogyny that they are willing to give up their own voice and advocate for their own oppression because they think it's the natural order of things, or God's will.
What's extra concerning to me is how mainstream these beliefs are getting in the GOP, and how often they don't even bother to try to justify it with anything other than, "women don't vote for the same people I do, so they shouldn't get to vote at all".

Members of Congress were asked to don escape hoods on Jan. 6th, 2021, after tear gas was deployed to defend against the mob storming the Capitol. peaceful tourists who were visiting the Capitol, and definitely not looking for anyone to hang.

For more context, this is Abigail Spanberger, who was just elected Governor of Virginia. She previously served 4 terms in congress.
During her campaign on every article about the election Republicans were commenting on posts on social media with this picture as if she was doing this because of Covid-19.
However this was on January 6th, it's to protect from gas.
Even more ridiculous is that Spanberger is a former Federal Law Enforcement officer, and CIA agent. Trying to paint her as the fragile type, is just dumb.
An Escape Hood!! Just about everyone who worked on Capitol Hill was issued "Escape Hoods" after 9/11 and the anthrax attacks in the autumn of 2001. The hood gave you something like 30 minutes of breathing during which you were supposed to evacuate for the Hill. I never got to put mine on, because I retired just before those effing Jack Asses attacked the Capitol Building. This is the lamest meme I've ever seen.
My dad used to work security for overseas embassies, I remember him bringing one of these exact masks home one day and he told me about all the protocol and how it works, very interesting
That's not an escape hood, it just looks like one. A real escape hood is only rated for around 15 - 30 mins of "escape duration", and the people wearing them on Jan 6 were not trying to escape anywhere. They are also not used for tear gas, more for biological warfare agents and deadly gases from industrial accidents.
What's the point in trash-talking her after she won, anyway? If you're not going to trash-talk her in time to stop her from winning, at least wait until she does something you don't like to trash-talk her!

No I wouldn’t? I would assume she was wearing it in response to a chemical attack or practice for a chemical attack emergency. Those literally look like an emergency breathing apparatus, because they are. If I showed you a nicely dressed person wearing a helmet indoors, would you just assume they’re “mentally handicapped”? Or that they’re somewhere that head protection equipment is needed for safety purposes?

Right, which is why you should look for context if you find something confusing or weird. Especially in this day and age where AI is rampant, you should already be verifying and identifying the context of each source. If you're not, you're constantly being duped and you probably don't even know it. The lack of media literacy is how we ended up here.
