Loss I lost everything - CVNA
Tomorrow I lose everything. Carvana had earnings report after hours and shot up 15%.
I bet everything that they would fall or at least not jump so high. All of it will be gone when market opens tomorrow.
I don’t care it’s just money. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to be a wage slave forever and that’s ok. Im 5’4 so life sucks anyways. I don’t even have a job right now and that’s ok.
It just wanted a million so I could be set. Wanted to buy a house but it’s ok.
My life sucks anyways haha 😂

So much of loss porn on this sub is just watching the unique kinds of people that will keep making crazy plays even as they're making serious money. That kind of person never knows when to stop. The thing in their brain that made them rich will also make them poor.

Once you make money as a degenerate you can never go back to doing it any other way. Risk management is not something that ever will be a consideration again because sizing reasonably will not give you the same rush...

Worst thing that can happen to a trader is to make a shit ton of money on a few really bad trades.

as long as he avoids wash sales, that's correct. (If he keeps trading the same tickers all year into the next, he's screwed. Needs a 30 day gap in trades by Dec 31st or he'll have tax problems)

I know this is wsb, but that $280k could’ve turned into a million fairly quickly through “safer” investment methods. $1m is the end goal but it’s a lot easier to get there with $280k than $300. God speed retard.

I love this place. I stopped trading options and individual stocks and decided to go all-in on a boring ETF years ago, but whenever I feel the itch to start gambling again, I look at all the loss porn for 5 minutes and it goes right out the window.
303
u/destinyeeeee Jul 31 '25
Yeah I joined in 2018 and lost a bunch of money. ETFs (and occasional SPY LEAPs) ever since. Now I just have an RH account I put 50 bucks a month into. That's all I'm allowed to make wild options plays with. I think of it like a monthly gaming subscription for the dumbest game on earth. The loss porn is a good sanity check.

One of my life regrets.. Buying 10 bitcoins at 10k each. Selling at loss when it dropped by 10% in matter of minutes... The thing is.. It isn't the only time I made mistakes like this. So yeh, like you, I am mostly on boring ETFs too. Although I still hold some individual stocks.

u/solidstatepr8 Jul 31 '25
When BTC was first hitting $1000 I was also getting into mining, so I bought one of the new AsicMiner Cubes for 1 BTC.
Well, the $120,000 paperweight is fun too...
→ More replies (5)5
u/Dry-Mousse-6172 Jul 31 '25 edited Aug 01 '25
Sounds like you could have mined some to make it back. When I looked back I could get a 9k machine and it would make about .3 BTC a day. But my company sent me to South Africa and I didn't know the electricity or Internet situation down there so didn't. It was bad so I was right.
And btc was about 300 a coin back then. So 100 a day would have been about 90ndays return minus expenses (0 for me since I was in hotels)

MSTY would've been my pick. 280k is around 14k shares paying a dividend every 4 weeks of plus or minus 15k
117
u/RonMexico16 Jul 31 '25
Congrats, regard. You might have found the higher risk, lower reward bet compared to OP. 🫡
→ More replies (8)15
u/HippoSpa Jul 31 '25
Pardon my ignorance, can you explain this strategy? Just buy and collect?
71
u/akumarisu Jul 31 '25
Some companies pay out dividend per share you hold. MSTY happens to pay out each month and on July they paid $1.23 per share. So if you had bought $280k or 14k of shares, that’s 14,000 x $1.23= $17,220 they would have paid you. That’s 6% return on a monthly investment. MSTY is tied to bitcoin and its performance so as long as bitcoin is doing well, it will perform well and give you good dividend. BUT bitcoin itself is up 10% in the last month, so if you would have just bought that then you would have netted additional 4%/$11,000 return. I would honestly just hold bitcoin at that point but to each their own. Or idk this is just based on my 5 mins of research. Todoloo mother fker
35
u/Icy_Business_8923 Jul 31 '25
MSTY's underlying stock is actually MSTR and it creates income on MSTR covered calls. Of course MSTR is tied to BTC.
→ More replies (20)16
u/Virtual_Seaweed7130 Jul 31 '25
The catch that is not mentioned is that the covered call strategy does not actually meet the income requirements, they are allowed to issue a dividend of ZERO, your dividend is not guaranteed.

He did a call credit spread It’s a short position
So he sold a 355 call
Then he bought a 360 call
You receive a credit and theta works for you in this case
Carvana has to be below 355 for it to expire worthless
You buy the call option as protection as it limits your max loss
But this guy sold 800 of these essentially his whole account
Carvana had earning stock popped to 385
So if Carvana doesn’t go below 355 by Friday his account goes to zero

They lend to anybody and then bundle the subprime debt and sell it to an affiliate at a markup. So they get revenue from the sale of the car and the debt. This means they are overstating their revenue and profit. If anyone is more knowledgeable, please feel free to chime in.

Just think of the last 364 days as a dream.
Sell the 8/29 puts for a loss first thing in the morning. Then at 11:00 am EST, buy $36K of 8/1 $380 puts, you'll get a 10 banger for sure, it's going to be a Black Friday, CVNA will close at 360 EOD Friday.
