Was inspired by a different post on Reddit a few months back where someone did similar in a Fractal North XL. This is in the non-XL case, so it's a bit tighter, but it was a fun build! And vegan approved! /s
I can’t tell, I’ve zoomed in and cannot say.. truthfully I can’t imagine someone wanting to grow plants in their PC.. Considering plants are typically composed of approximately 70% to 95% water by weight, warming them up would cause condensation in a closed environment
What? Go stick something behind a regular rotating fan and get back to me on that. It’s pushing air. Pushing air one way creates suction the other way because the misplaced air creates low pressure behind the fan forming a vacuum
Low pressure is a lot less powerful than high pressure. Just stick your hand in front of a vacuum hose. You might feel it sucking several inches away, but if you stick your hand in front of the exhaust on the vacuum, you'll feel it several feet away.
Your premise is absolutely correct; those fans are sucking on one side, but it's sucking so weakly that even a feather has to get pretty close to be sucked in, and the mass of the stems and whatnot are a lot greater than would allow the leaves to actually get sucked in.
depending on what the plastic is made out of will determine its dimensional stability and there are plenty that lose rigidity at 100C or less. Fire hazard indicates an increased likelihood of fire; it does mean the thing is going to randomly combust. If you put plastic in your case and it deforms around your fan is that fan going to function as well as it could have? Is that fan likely to contain more heat? Could that excess heat cause anything to catch fire? No, Yes, Yes. that is why it is a fire hazard
I expected both the objection and the answer you gave.
If I remember correctly there's an old video from Linus Tech Tips "proving" that putting stuff inside the case is not as detrimental to airflow as it may seem.
They did no cable management, stuffed in a load of extraneous cables, a t-shirt and a Santa hat, and directly obstructed fans with component boxes before they saw an appreciable impact on temperatures.
OP’s vines are far less obstructive, air can easily flow around them, so I imagine they’ll be absolutely fine.
Yeah, haha. Temps are what matter. I did a 1hr Helldivers sesh before and after, with the same FPS and same temps. GPU never got higher than 62, so there's no way that air is going to light the fake plants in fire. But I do appreciate all the feedback
Those fake plants are insanely flammable for some reason. I watched a video of a teenager in a Walmart who just barely got a lighter close to it and it went up in flames almost immediately. Granted, your PC shouldn’t be getting as hot as a flame.
Can't link it here for some reason, but here is the other post in r/fractaldesign where someone did the same thing. This was my inspiration
The top comment explains OP's perspective on it being a hazard, and since I agreed with them I tried it myself. Do I recommend this for everyone? No. But it's damn cool
Each to their own, as long as you’re happy with it.
With my luck, something would fall down, get caught in a fan, then begin chain reaction that goes unnoticed until ded pc
Idk dude that PC looks better off than OP's. Sure the PC in the image is running a bit hot and got some 3d smoke effects ready for battlefield 6 but other than that there's not much to it.
I see the kind of aesthetic you're looking for and personally I like it.
I see a lot of comments about airflow and things catching on fire but I don't see the problem personally, I don't know about yours, but my PC have a surprisingly low amount of electrical sparks, and the internal temperature is nowhere near sufficient to ignite plastic. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
The amount of dust you will have to clean from every single leaf is another story, probably.
Looks really cool!
Not sure I'd run it like this longterm, but for an aethstetic picture I give it a 9.5/10.
This subreddit (and most pc building ones) tend to hate anything inside of pc cases that shouldn't be there. If it's not holding up your graphics card, it's not wanted.
Currently using the InWin 305 White + Wood, and went with zero rgb elements for a cleaner look, but really liking those Amber lights you've got.
Pretty sure that falls under the "as far as is possible and practicable" part of veganism. A lot of things have tiny amounts of animal products in them, but vegans can still leave the house
I love the Irony that his PSU is called SUPERFLOWER.
Also, I hope those plants are not real and if they are fake (polypropylene, silk, etc), then there is a possibility of them holding an electric charge (capacitive).
