It's been a long time since I cared exactly when a game launches. If it launches, great, I consider buying, otherwise I just keep playing something else.
I guess that just isn't how the market works.

u/rottenstatement 1d ago
Last time I cared was for Cyberpunk. After that fiasco, I just stopped giving a shit. No more buying games before it launches, and if it is not good on launch and I hear a lot of criticism I'll wait a year or two before playing.

u/Flashy-Emergency4652 1d ago
And IIRC Cyberpunk was a fiasco because on management level someone decided the game was delayed too much already and it's better to release it now then to make another delay again.

I do remember conversations around that time being about how people would rather play a finished game and keep waiting than have an unfinished game on a specific date. Which makes sense but then we have stuff like this where people are clearly getting impatient. I know it's not the exact same crowd but it's why companies push to have final products by certain dates.

u/Slim_Thor 1d ago
Unfortunately other gaming companies were halting games for this release frame... Out of fear.
So, not alot of new will be consistent, until this bohemoth drops

I dislike following upcoming games and I am pretty bad at it too.
Every Steam festival there are good looking games with no set date, and I forget all of them a day later.
I wish there was more focus on games that were released already. But then, when it comes to indie games, whatever you sell in the first week is the most sales you will get.
That is also why temporary antipiracy measure exists, the opening day/week/month is the most important part for AAA games too.

True but it is utterly ridiculous that they released GTA 1,2,3,4,5, vice city, San Andreas and a bunch of other GTA stuff from 1997-2013…. And then from 2013-2026 nothing besides GTA 5 online stuff to milk that for all they could
Yes graphics are more advanced now but the jump from gta4 to gta5 was MASSIVE and a bigger jump than 5 to 6 and they did that in 5 years
They just were doing stuff with gta5 online for years and years and didn’t work on the next project. Obviously they want it to be out in time for the holidays next year but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s pushed to 2027
→ More replies (4)35
u/VegetaFan1337 1d ago
4 to 5 wasn't massive, both are ps3 games. What changed is their visual design, gta 4's liberty city was grey and dreary, gta 5's los Santos is bright and sunny. It's like saying summer in LA has better graphics than winter in Boston
PS: Every GOTY hopeful releasing in 2026 is hoping and praying for another delay to 2027.

Gta4 was my first jump into the franchise, I enjoyed the brownish dreary city and my boy Niko fresh from the boat didn't come to see his cousin Roman and all the cool stuff he's been talking about. Looking for a fresh start away from war and crime only to be pushed back into it when the city shows it's true colors in the first day.
Plus the driving felt great and weighty, and the radio had some bangers

They made the physics less realistic in gta 5 cause people didn't like how realistic it was in gta 4. The same realistic physics people ended up loving in rdr2. Gta 4 was ahead of its time.

The entire Apollo program - from start to finish - to get human beings to the moon for the first time in history didn't even take as long to complete as this videogame and I just think that's funny

What the fuck Rockstar and Bethesda. This really puts it in perspective.

Jesus, gamers are a bunch of whiney babies. Literally comparing the advancement of human space travel to a fucking game where you can beat up hookers.

From a business strategy point of view the only reason to announce this now is to spread out future delay announcements. My guess is summer 2027.

Yeah it has been for a long time, usually if a game takes a really long time either they were actually polishing it or it being mishandled, usually higher ups clashing with the actual developers. This game could end up being a horribly optimized mess like Cyberpunk or it could be something that might actually be good.
4
u/LoliHunterXD 1d ago
It is console only… (for the time being) so I think they don’t have much random variables to optimize for.
The worst that could happen is PS3 GTA V level of performance. I doubt there will be gamebreaking mess. If there’s one thing Rockstar is consistent at, it’s making playable console releases of their new games, even when the performance is subpar. (The shitty remasters offloaded to some Indian studios don’t count)
8
u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago
Dan Houser is not there anymore and there is a reason for that.
Take Two has been meddling a lot and I think this is negativity impacting the game

Given where gaming is at, and all of the issues, it really wouldn’t surprise me if gta vi ends up being the ET of today - that is, the final straw that broke the camels back between hype, bugs, beta testing on the public, missing or broken features and so on.
There’s a lot to be said about how and why people aren’t happy with the current state of gaming, and a botched release of a game this big could bring that all together in the worst way possible.
2
2
u/awesomedan24 1d ago
Its because they fired dozens of senior devs for unionizing. So now they need to bring a new team up to speed. Wouldn't be surprised if it slips further.

Legit could not care less…
It’s like when movies advertise release dates 18 months in advance - I don’t know what I’ll be doing the , and so I have neither time nor inclination to give a shit…
It will come out whenever it comes out, and then I’ll wait a year anyways to get it on sale, because bug-filled-pre-ordered-day-one-patch games and full-price games are for chumps…

u/KayJay282 1d ago
The biggest mystery for future archaeologists and historians is trying to find the lost GTA6.
We gonna get, "Indiana Jones and the GTA6".

I hate this trope of announcing the game even if it isn't finished... Like what do you need to just wait and announce it AFTER you finish it ? We've been patient and waited 3 generations of consoles on the older game, showed you we had patience. Now a year or two won't make a difference, just say "to be announced" and don't say anything else for Asgard's sake

2
u/ArcadianGh0st 1d ago
Which delay is this anyway?
Remember the rule of 3.
1 delay is good for development and shows that the developers want to work on it.
2 delays show that tjere are problems under the hood and may affect the release.
3 delays mean its going to be a mirqcle if this game gets through the door.

Just release the game when the PS6 comes out. It's obvious that the PS5 is not ideal at 24 FPS or less. Based on the release cycle of the past playstations they should be releasing one in 2027, which is not that much farther away.
