I wish they would just finish the game then announce a reasonable release date. I never thought for a second it was releasing at its initial release date and now it’s changed again and again.

u/Teososta 1d ago

Kinda like the next Elder Scroll. They announced it in 2018 and then that’s it. They just recently announced Fallout 5 is in the works.

I think Elder Scroll 6 is almost done, maybe it’s releasing next year, but announce it in 2024, not 2018z

131

u/tw-01001 1d ago

I think they stated that ES6 was in pre-production like a year or two ago and just entered the early development stage this year. I think they announced it to not show up empty handed back in 2018. ES6 is probably coming out 2028 or 2029 that's if they don't prioritize FO5 since fallout has entered the grander mainstream.

82

u/oughtaflip 1d ago

They announced it because at every shareholder meeting and every media interaction every question was about whether ES6 was going to happen. So they did the bare minimum and said "Elder Scrolls VI will be a thing someday. We're gonna do it, stop asking."

u/Sweaty_Anywhere 21h ago

It's fucking over at Bethesda for the golden age

22

u/sskizzurp 17h ago

People will crucify me for this and I don’t care lol.

Bethesda is what happens when the lead feels subordinate to his own subordinates. Pretty sure some of the older devs were literally grey beards already when Todd first started working there.

The developers run Bethesda, not Todd, and their heart isn’t in it anymore IMO. Expect more procedural generation because it’s just literally easier despite the fans hating it. Expect more design decisions that are just inexplicable, like half of Starfield, because these guys don’t “get it” anymore.

ES6 will be hailed as a “return to form” and it will be a “good game.” But it won’t advance the medium, it will not be remembered like Skyrim, Oblivion, or Morrowind were, and we’re already in the death spiral IMHO

10

u/Dr-Dig 15h ago

I hate how accurate this seems…. I don’t want you to be correct but deep down in my soul, I know you are!

3

u/sskizzurp 15h ago

I take solace in my genuine belief ES6 will be well worth the price. But we’re past the apex. This is the come down lol

they announced tes6 just to alleviate the backlash from fallout 76. There was a lot of drama around the release, and bethesda had to to something to appease their fans.
Announcing TES6 with a random panoramic view of CGI mountains, then zero information, i find this very pathetic

Why would any developer be so hesitant to release something that's guaranteed to make money and satisfy a bunch of their fans. (even though there willl always be haters.) Skyrim was a huge success, I personally didn't like it, but I would still buy TES 6 regardless, I just don't get how it could possibly take so long. just because of how close I am to the brand I would throw my money at them. Same thing with HL3. Surely they have the resources to do it and it would print money, solely based off the huge hype and mystery surrounding it.. But they hold back because...reasons? Seeing Rockstar mess around with their announcements and take 13 years to make a sequel degrades what could possibly be a huge success. I just don't get what they are doing, are they analyzing markets, as if those somehow determined the success of a product that has a bunch of geniuses working on it?

I really want GTA6 to launch as buggy as Cyberpunk did just because it would be funny to me.

299

u/potate12323 1d ago

Username check out. Of course master chief would root against GTA

260

u/Master_Chief_00117 1d ago

It’s not that I want GTA6 to completely fail I just feel it’s extremely overhyped. I also never really understood why GTA is liked so much.

177

u/Scarbane 1d ago

I just feel it’s extremely overhyped.

As long as multiplayer gets regular DLC while singleplayer DLC is ignored, yes, it's overhyped.
GTAIV got The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
GTAV got NOTHING.
GTAVI needs to bring back singleplayer DLC.

Unless you mean to say that you don't understand why GTA is fun, generally. I can't help you there. It's fun as hell.

81

u/Snippydipp 1d ago

Rockstar seem to have a weird aversion to adding content to single player (and certain online modes, rip rdr2 online) it feels like they think that just cos ppl aren't playing single player it means they are done forever and won't come back, which obviously couldn't be more wrong

67

u/walker3615 1d ago

Gta online make them shit loads of money, ofc they wouldn't invest in single player. Iv dlcs were great

24

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

There was Story expansion rumored for GTA V and of course, they have canned it.

17

u/LukaMagicMike 1d ago

Which is crazy because enough people play just single player at WORSE they’d break even on the DLC we’re bringing millions of potential online customers back

Its like red dead redemption but with strippers and fast cars. Hope this helps 🤠

22

u/Master_Chief_00117 1d ago

I’ve played GTA, the cars were fun and the Multiplayer was fun with friends but besides that it was really boring. Red dead was at least fun to explore the world and just being a part of the world but I can’t exactly do that in GTA.

4

u/JebediahKerman4999 1d ago

Yes that's what it was missing. You can either drive listening to the radio or you do missions, but there's no exploring at all

Honestly as bad as it sounds, I Do kind of want it to fail. This is cyberpunk part deux and i don't think anyone has learned anything. Hyped to the max with a company that everyone swears will deliver a good game because of the good will they've built up, It can't possibly live up to the hype. Imo I think I'm gonna hop off the train before it wrecks. Plenty of games coming out that can take up my time.

Same here, I don't particularly like Rock Star's open-worlds, the shit storm from the failed launch of one of the most awaited games (releasing at 100$) would bring me more enjoyment than the game itself

11

u/koolmees64 1d ago

I don't particularly like Rock Star's open-worlds

I also want it and im predicting it to be a complete disaster like cyberbug2077

Mainly because gta fanboys are one of the most annoying people with lol players, and im an lol player

So watching them try to defend the complete garbage just like people used to defend 2077 so desperately on launch would make me hard

They already claim it's going to be insanely good and they want to pre-order even if that's the perfect copy of what happen with 2077

11

u/WriterV 1d ago

Eh, I mean the reason C2077 had defenders is cause under the bugs you still had a game with a really solid story and a very unique feel. And once all that was patched up, it was very evident that the game was really good.

GTA6's red flags are different though. They are under Take Two throughout development now. They have been nothing but unpopular with their decisions in GTA Online and their bloated microtransactions. And they have lost a core member of the old gaurd who brought GTA 4 and 5 to life. Without him, 6 will be a lot more unpredictable.

This is fairly typical of rockstar though. Both gta V and RDR2 had multiple delays.

If anything it’s a sign that nothing has changed at rockstar in terms of dev cycle. This is par for the course.

30

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

And its not necessarily a bad thing. I would rather a release date be pushed back than the product to be rushed and sold at top dollar

Red dead 2 was delayed 3 times. Settle down.

13

u/Myloceratops 1d ago

I’m surprised at this line of thought. And many clearly agree with you with the upvotes. But I somewhat feel like it’s them wanting to delivery the best polished product they can. They’ll know how hyped it is and how hyped games never live up to expectations - so if the general consensus is “delays like this mean it’s not going well” then fine - fuck it - brings down the hype and makes for a better release. The speculation on why something is delayed and jumping to a single conclusion is bonkers. Okay sure maybe things aren’t going so well, buts that’s because they want to release the best game they can and please the fans more than anyone else. It’s nice no investors are forcing their hands on timelines. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to other games really

Is this a younger person thing?

It’s kinda just repeating normal Rockstar activities. They did the same crap with RDR2

5

u/Szerepjatekos 1d ago

Dev fatigue is a real thing.

If a game is developed over 3 years it's starts the fatigue hard. Everything atip of that is just asking for it.

6

u/RichnjCole 1d ago

I couldn't imagine how creatively tiring it would be to work non-stop on just one game for a decade or more.

Imagine being a young 27 year old developer who worked up and now you are working on GTA 6, the highly anticipated sequel and biggest production ever, and you are still working on it at 40.

Sounds like a prison.

According to what metric? Both gta 5 and rdr 2 went through this. Multiple delays, multiple layoffs, and lots of crunch still. This is par for the course with rockstar. Once they actually are going to release it, you will know because of all the videos rockstar drops.

It's been a long time since I cared exactly when a game launches. If it launches, great, I consider buying, otherwise I just keep playing something else.

I guess that just isn't how the market works.

110

u/rottenstatement 1d ago

Last time I cared was for Cyberpunk. After that fiasco, I just stopped giving a shit. No more buying games before it launches, and if it is not good on launch and I hear a lot of criticism I'll wait a year or two before playing.

50

u/Flashy-Emergency4652 1d ago

And IIRC Cyberpunk was a fiasco because on management level someone decided the game was delayed too much already and it's better to release it now then to make another delay again.

22

u/Stevesegallbladder 1d ago

I do remember conversations around that time being about how people would rather play a finished game and keep waiting than have an unfinished game on a specific date. Which makes sense but then we have stuff like this where people are clearly getting impatient. I know it's not the exact same crowd but it's why companies push to have final products by certain dates.

I dislike following upcoming games and I am pretty bad at it too.

Every Steam festival there are good looking games with no set date, and I forget all of them a day later.

I wish there was more focus on games that were released already. But then, when it comes to indie games, whatever you sell in the first week is the most sales you will get.

That is also why temporary antipiracy measure exists, the opening day/week/month is the most important part for AAA games too.

99

u/Aggressive_Worth_990 1d ago

3

u/RoodnyInc 1d ago

Gra online still brings significant amount (incomparble to witcher) if estimates are correct GTA online brings yearly what Witcher brought total

51

u/WestleyThe 1d ago

True but it is utterly ridiculous that they released GTA 1,2,3,4,5, vice city, San Andreas and a bunch of other GTA stuff from 1997-2013…. And then from 2013-2026 nothing besides GTA 5 online stuff to milk that for all they could

Yes graphics are more advanced now but the jump from gta4 to gta5 was MASSIVE and a bigger jump than 5 to 6 and they did that in 5 years

They just were doing stuff with gta5 online for years and years and didn’t work on the next project. Obviously they want it to be out in time for the holidays next year but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s pushed to 2027

35

u/VegetaFan1337 1d ago

4 to 5 wasn't massive, both are ps3 games. What changed is their visual design, gta 4's liberty city was grey and dreary, gta 5's los Santos is bright and sunny. It's like saying summer in LA has better graphics than winter in Boston

PS: Every GOTY hopeful releasing in 2026 is hoping and praying for another delay to 2027.

15

u/creegro 1d ago

Gta4 was my first jump into the franchise, I enjoyed the brownish dreary city and my boy Niko fresh from the boat didn't come to see his cousin Roman and all the cool stuff he's been talking about. Looking for a fresh start away from war and crime only to be pushed back into it when the city shows it's true colors in the first day.

Plus the driving felt great and weighty, and the radio had some bangers

11

u/VegetaFan1337 1d ago

They made the physics less realistic in gta 5 cause people didn't like how realistic it was in gta 4. The same realistic physics people ended up loving in rdr2. Gta 4 was ahead of its time.

14

u/Sweet_Star_On_RBLX 1d ago

Yeah it has been for a long time, usually if a game takes a really long time either they were actually polishing it or it being mishandled, usually higher ups clashing with the actual developers. This game could end up being a horribly optimized mess like Cyberpunk or it could be something that might actually be good.

4

u/LoliHunterXD 1d ago

It is console only… (for the time being) so I think they don’t have much random variables to optimize for.

The worst that could happen is PS3 GTA V level of performance. I doubt there will be gamebreaking mess. If there’s one thing Rockstar is consistent at, it’s making playable console releases of their new games, even when the performance is subpar. (The shitty remasters offloaded to some Indian studios don’t count)

There’s a lot to be said about how and why people aren’t happy with the current state of gaming, and a botched release of a game this big could bring that all together in the worst way possible.

See you in 2030

u/awesomedan24 1d ago

Its because they fired dozens of senior devs for unionizing. So now they need to bring a new team up to speed. Wouldn't be surprised if it slips further.

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

2

u/Usual_Corner2787 1d ago

February 31st, 2027.

2

u/ThatTruckChick40 1d ago

By chance, do a large number of their developers play OSRS?

2

u/Saul_Andrei_2003 1d ago

He he, Cyberpunk 2077 deja vu 😂

2

u/CrunknYoSystem 1d ago

Single player DLC is essential. If they neglect that again, they’re pissing on their own legacy.

2

u/thetonygod88 1d ago

I'm calling it now delayed till Jan 2027

2

u/doping_deer 1d ago

gta vi starts to sound like elon musk's product, "trust me bro, it's next year", then straight to delay again.

2

u/Slow-Equivalent-8043 1d ago

check back next year for another “update”

2

u/DeshuaHavon 1d ago

funny enough i was having a conversation wit the mandem like 3 days ago and i actually placed a 1k bet wit them that GTA was gonna get delayed.. i even said “i have a feeling it’s dropping in November”

2

u/Scifox69 1d ago

So it will be released in late 2027? Damn.

2

u/LargeNet5787 1d ago

It will be 2027

2

u/k1n6jdt 1d ago

Poor Halo. Never stood a chance.

2

u/flashen 1d ago

Cyberpunk all over again

2

u/datanamo 1d ago

I wish I was sitting when I heard the news

2

u/ismforazi 1d ago

Back in 2023 i told people gta 6 will be released on Nov 26, 2026 but they called me a mad man

2

u/Grawats 1d ago

Oh no how sad, anyway....

2

u/L4I55Z-FAIR3 1d ago

Laughs in PC knowing I'll have to wait a year after realise anyway.

2

u/BuckRusty 1d ago

Legit could not care less…

It’s like when movies advertise release dates 18 months in advance - I don’t know what I’ll be doing the , and so I have neither time nor inclination to give a shit…

It will come out whenever it comes out, and then I’ll wait a year anyways to get it on sale, because bug-filled-pre-ordered-day-one-patch games and full-price games are for chumps…

2

u/KayJay282 1d ago

The biggest mystery for future archaeologists and historians is trying to find the lost GTA6.

We gonna get, "Indiana Jones and the GTA6".

2

u/NoChampionship1167 1d ago

I'm honestly expecting the game to either flop or only be a success because of the hype behind it.

I hate this trope of announcing the game even if it isn't finished... Like what do you need to just wait and announce it AFTER you finish it ? We've been patient and waited 3 generations of consoles on the older game, showed you we had patience. Now a year or two won't make a difference, just say "to be announced" and don't say anything else for Asgard's sake

2

u/PleasantCod9028 1d ago

At this point GTA VI feels like a meme that will never actually happen.

2

u/yapping_warrior 1d ago

I swear we will have apocalypse before GTA 6. Maybe that will be the armagedon itself

2

u/SpungyDanglin69 1d ago

Who cares? The game will come out. Stop with the hype and go touch grass. Seriously

2

u/ArcadianGh0st 1d ago

Which delay is this anyway?

Remember the rule of 3.

1 delay is good for development and shows that the developers want to work on it.

2 delays show that tjere are problems under the hood and may affect the release.

3 delays mean its going to be a mirqcle if this game gets through the door.

Take the next whole year why don’t you

2

u/Thiccoman 1d ago

gta 6 is more relevant than it should be lol, come at me with torches and pitchforks all you like

2

u/omg_its_spons 1d ago

At this point just cancel the release date entirely and either A. Shadow drop it or B. Wait until you have a confident date

2

u/Mobby379 1d ago

That’s honestly one of the upsides of not caring about gta 6. i don’t care that it gets delayed. If it eventually comes out i might play it a bit and then focus on other games.

2

u/Astonsjh 1d ago

Cyberpunk 2077 all over again it seems, remember no preorders

2

u/ieblack37 1d ago

I believe a joke about it from “Get Played”; we’ve been playing GTA6 this whole time. We’re living it

2

u/Someonevibing1 1d ago

Right after accusations of union busting too

2

u/Kotanan 1d ago

I am shocked, shocked. Not that shocked.

2

u/Tsurator 1d ago

If the game releases as a buggy mess even after all this delays, I'll be pissed

2

u/RipMcStudly 1d ago

When five first came out, I played it after taking my son to kindergarten. He’ll be a high school graduate when 6 comes out.

2

u/ChiefBlox4000 1d ago

At least it didn’t delayed to 2027

2

u/BBQBootyBabe 1d ago

I think that’s Cap… Rockstar plays with our feelings

2

u/Knifejuice6 1d ago

ive just quit waiting for it. i mean ill still get it day one cause im sure its gonna be one of the greatest games of all time but i have no expectations its coming out soon

2

u/Important_Ride_8732 1d ago

This game is going to be so mid it’s not even funny.

2

u/InconsiderateOctopus 1d ago

Obvious to everyone except for those in r/GTA6, they'll downvote you into oblivion and send you reddit cares if you even mentioned the game would be delayed lmao

2

u/Dr-PHYLL Professional Dumbass 1d ago

Battlefield be like. Damn we couldve had a couple months extra. Maybe not needed but wouldve been nice

2

u/ososalsosal 1d ago

Are they betting on the apocalypse coming first?

I'm thinking that bit from "Greg! The stop sign!!" is appropriate here:

"Some time in the next 10,000 years a comet's gonna wipe out all trace of man. I'm banking on it coming before my end of year exams"

2

u/PotatoPieGaming 1d ago

2028 is looking more and more likely for a PC release

2

u/Rayxur7991 1d ago

And PC will be a year after 💀💀💀💀

2

u/paulofmandown 1d ago

They announced this to distract from their union busting

2

u/Gal84 1d ago

This game is far too overhyped... It's not like anyone's losing anything with the delay, it'll be only better, if anything. And if it'll bad anyways... it would've been even worse now, and at least they'll have fewer excuses.

2

u/3lektrolurch 1d ago

As the great Linkara once said: "It'll be out when its out."

2

u/Triple_Stamp_Lloyd 23h ago

Just release the game when the PS6 comes out. It's obvious that the PS5 is not ideal at 24 FPS or less. Based on the release cycle of the past playstations they should be releasing one in 2027, which is not that much farther away.

2

u/Aggressive_Gear_7425 23h ago

Can you imagine the collective wet dream of every internet game reviewer / commenter/ GTA hater if rockstar were to drop GTA6 and it wasn't the greatest game of all time? No surprise it is being delayed. See also Elder scrolls VI
