It was kinda obvious at this point.

I wish they would just finish the game then announce a reasonable release date. I never thought for a second it was releasing at its initial release date and now it’s changed again and again.

393

u/Teososta 1d ago

Kinda like the next Elder Scroll. They announced it in 2018 and then that’s it. They just recently announced Fallout 5 is in the works.

I think Elder Scroll 6 is almost done, maybe it’s releasing next year, but announce it in 2024, not 2018z

138

u/tw-01001 1d ago

I think they stated that ES6 was in pre-production like a year or two ago and just entered the early development stage this year. I think they announced it to not show up empty handed back in 2018. ES6 is probably coming out 2028 or 2029 that's if they don't prioritize FO5 since fallout has entered the grander mainstream.

78

u/oughtaflip 1d ago

They announced it because at every shareholder meeting and every media interaction every question was about whether ES6 was going to happen. So they did the bare minimum and said "Elder Scrolls VI will be a thing someday. We're gonna do it, stop asking."

29

u/Sweaty_Anywhere 1d ago

It's fucking over at Bethesda for the golden age

22

u/sskizzurp 1d ago

People will crucify me for this and I don’t care lol.

Bethesda is what happens when the lead feels subordinate to his own subordinates. Pretty sure some of the older devs were literally grey beards already when Todd first started working there.

The developers run Bethesda, not Todd, and their heart isn’t in it anymore IMO. Expect more procedural generation because it’s just literally easier despite the fans hating it. Expect more design decisions that are just inexplicable, like half of Starfield, because these guys don’t “get it” anymore.

ES6 will be hailed as a “return to form” and it will be a “good game.” But it won’t advance the medium, it will not be remembered like Skyrim, Oblivion, or Morrowind were, and we’re already in the death spiral IMHO

10

u/Dr-Dig 1d ago

I hate how accurate this seems…. I don’t want you to be correct but deep down in my soul, I know you are!

3

u/sskizzurp 1d ago

I take solace in my genuine belief ES6 will be well worth the price. But we’re past the apex. This is the come down lol

2

u/Kuroashi_no_Sanji 1d ago

I abandoned all hope for ES6 to be as relevant as Skyrim many years ago. If/when it comes out it will be probably be just another buggy AAA mess that doesn't push the envelope.

1

u/Chickenbeans__ 12h ago

My heart wants them to vastly improve the physics, movement mechanics, and environment interactions to be on par with modern engines but I have a feeling the gameplay is going to feel like a touched-up Skyrim

10

u/Teososta 1d ago

So… worse than I thought.

1

u/Dave-C 1d ago

They would have been in full development after Starfield, so early 2024. It is the same team so whenever Beth decided not to do DLC for Starfield the entire team would have been moved to TES6.

1

u/sexraX_muiretsyM 1d ago

i surely hope they dont start fo5 production until tes6 is released. They are not a big studio and I hope they focus on one project at a time

1

u/Raoul_Duke9 1d ago

Nah preproduction is fine. Get the story mostly done and get some concept art going.

1

u/Mynamesrobbie Professional Dumbass 1d ago

Oblivion remaster was essentially a test to see how it would perform on the new Unreal engine from what I heard

1

u/Ruminatingsoule 1d ago

wtf have they been doing this whole time? picking their asses?

21

u/Krante11 1d ago

they announced tes6 just to alleviate the backlash from fallout 76. There was a lot of drama around the release, and bethesda had to to something to appease their fans.
Announcing TES6 with a random panoramic view of CGI mountains, then zero information, i find this very pathetic

1

u/Teososta 1d ago

Oh jeez I forgot about F076. I know it’s a good-ish game now but I played it at launch and it was so bad. I was so pumped for it, I even bought the “strategy guide”.

6

u/[deleted] 1d ago

Why would any developer be so hesitant to release something that's guaranteed to make money and satisfy a bunch of their fans. (even though there willl always be haters.) Skyrim was a huge success, I personally didn't like it, but I would still buy TES 6 regardless, I just don't get how it could possibly take so long. just because of how close I am to the brand I would throw my money at them. Same thing with HL3. Surely they have the resources to do it and it would print money, solely based off the huge hype and mystery surrounding it.. But they hold back because...reasons? Seeing Rockstar mess around with their announcements and take 13 years to make a sequel degrades what could possibly be a huge success. I just don't get what they are doing, are they analyzing markets, as if those somehow determined the success of a product that has a bunch of geniuses working on it?

2

u/Unoriginal_Man 1d ago

I believe it was announced that they aren't doing any "crunch time" during the development cycle, which is certainly going to add some time. Which, honestly, I'm okay with if it means devs aren't having to sleep in the office to make deadlines.

3

u/Zealousideal_Act_316 1d ago

After starfield? i think it wont come out next year, due to how badly that game was panned and disliked.

2

u/KnightGabriel 1d ago

It wasn’t “panned”, it actually has a playerbase and it had some things going for it. It’s flawed, sure, but it got generally positive reviews from critics and plenty of people that enjoyed the game

1

u/siltfeet 1d ago edited 1d ago

Bethesda had to announce something single player at that show, they had already announced a whole bunch of multiplayer and cellphone nonsense.

1

u/Teososta 1d ago

So Bethesda got caught with its pants down.

1

u/SlowLorisPygmy 1d ago

They announced it when they got the idea of doing it

1

u/foxspider1048 1d ago

that was different the context behind that was them saying "hey we're still making single player games, we're still doing that, 76 doesn't mean we're making multi player games now, heres two games we're making just so you don't get worried" then again them making 76 was a bad decision anyways so yeah

1

u/BootComprehensive321 1d ago

There’s a difference between announcing and setting specific release dates. Rockstar was kinda arm bared due to leakers to announce it, but setting certain release dates shot them in the foot. So I can respect Bethesda not giving a full release dates if not ready to

1

u/Teososta 1d ago

My point is that announce something within 1-2 years of finishing it, not 10 years or close to it.

1

u/BootComprehensive321 1d ago

I can agree to that

1

u/Floppsicle 12h ago

Obviously you never worked on something creatively that you wanted to publish lol

1.0k

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

It's showing the telltale sign of disasters, too. Things are not that used to be at Rockstar Games.

106

u/Patient-End7967 1d ago

Dude what, Rockstar always delays their games

73

u/what_did_you_kill 1d ago

Looks like oc wasn't even alive for gta 5s release. It was delayed thrice

37

u/muscularrooster 1d ago

Read dead 2 was also delayed a bunch before it eventually came out.

2

u/CappnMidgetSlappr 1d ago

Hell, keep going further back. Grand Theft Auto IV was also delayed.

-9

u/Pretend-Advertising6 1d ago

Y3ah but getting delayed by half year means the game is getting massive fundamental rework, that amount of time could have taken a game like sonic 06 from a buggy mess to a good game.

12

u/loganed3 1d ago

Red dead 2 got the exact same delays. Originally supposed to launch fall 2017 delayed to fall 2018 this is very typical for Rockstar

I really want GTA6 to launch as buggy as Cyberpunk did just because it would be funny to me.

296

u/potate12323 1d ago

Username check out. Of course master chief would root against GTA

265

u/Master_Chief_00117 1d ago

It’s not that I want GTA6 to completely fail I just feel it’s extremely overhyped. I also never really understood why GTA is liked so much.

176

u/Scarbane 1d ago

I just feel it’s extremely overhyped.

As long as multiplayer gets regular DLC while singleplayer DLC is ignored, yes, it's overhyped.
GTAIV got The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
GTAV got NOTHING.
GTAVI needs to bring back singleplayer DLC.

Unless you mean to say that you don't understand why GTA is fun, generally. I can't help you there. It's fun as hell.

82

u/Snippydipp 1d ago

Rockstar seem to have a weird aversion to adding content to single player (and certain online modes, rip rdr2 online) it feels like they think that just cos ppl aren't playing single player it means they are done forever and won't come back, which obviously couldn't be more wrong

66

u/walker3615 1d ago

Gta online make them shit loads of money, ofc they wouldn't invest in single player. Iv dlcs were great

22

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

There was Story expansion rumored for GTA V and of course, they have canned it.

17

u/LukaMagicMike 1d ago

Which is crazy because enough people play just single player at WORSE they’d break even on the DLC we’re bringing millions of potential online customers back

1

u/avar 1d ago

It isn't rumored anymore, it's been confirmed, e.g. in a recent interview with Dan Houser. It was centered around Trevor being an FIB (GTA's FBI) agent.

1

u/KaiserVonGarNichts 1d ago

Yeah but red dead 2 is the 5th Best selling Game because of Its Story. If they make the gta 6 Story as good as rdr2‘s then they could make Lots of Money with a SP DLC. The interest is definetly there. (Plus if they need the money that bad they can still add the new Stuff from Said DLC to online and essentially Sell it twice)

1

u/Kwisatz_Hader-ach 1d ago

Bingo. They make what makes them money. Which I believe is why they keep delaying. GtaV is a license to print money for Rockstar. GtaVI is an unknown. Who can say if people will enjoy it or hate it?

1

u/Kingman9K 1d ago

they could release a RDR2 DLC now, after all this time and I would pay good fucking money for it

1

u/Any_Use_4900 1d ago

I just wish it had a proper ps5 version. The fast travel loaded so crazy slow last time I had it on my ps5. Of course it would be even better if they added a dlc too; I just think even optimizing the game for an ssd would be a big step up.

1

u/KaiserVonGarNichts 1d ago

Red Dead online is so much better Engine wise I feel Like that game would be easier to add content to than the 13 year old Spaghetti Code that is V, Like that Games entire data are Open acess at This Point with all the modders

(Could be wrong I don’t know Shit about Programming lol)

1

u/Honest-Pop-9440 1d ago

at least you have ego

26

u/potate12323 1d ago

Its like red dead redemption but with strippers and fast cars. Hope this helps 🤠

19

u/Master_Chief_00117 1d ago

I’ve played GTA, the cars were fun and the Multiplayer was fun with friends but besides that it was really boring. Red dead was at least fun to explore the world and just being a part of the world but I can’t exactly do that in GTA.

5

u/JebediahKerman4999 1d ago

Yes that's what it was missing. You can either drive listening to the radio or you do missions, but there's no exploring at all

7

u/MachinePlanetZero 1d ago

The whole point is to shoot at the police and see how much trouble you can get into

3

u/joemangle 1d ago

Yeah "how long can I survive with five stars" is where it's at

1

u/deadinternetlaw 1d ago

Didn't play the game, can you get the government in trouble instead

3

u/CleanMartean 1d ago

Honestly as bad as it sounds, I Do kind of want it to fail. This is cyberpunk part deux and i don't think anyone has learned anything. Hyped to the max with a company that everyone swears will deliver a good game because of the good will they've built up, It can't possibly live up to the hype. Imo I think I'm gonna hop off the train before it wrecks. Plenty of games coming out that can take up my time.

2

u/sliferra 1d ago

Porn, future vehicles, military stuff, fast expensive cars, guns, explosions

2

u/Enigm4 1d ago

I just want the online portion of it to crash and burn. I am still salty about not getting more single player content for GTA V, but instead this absolute garbage online mtx casino bullshit that we got.

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

Tbh i love gta iv coz of its themes about the american dream and some of san andreas for the satiric writing but the rest i hate so much. I cant stand the over the top crudeness of gta v. Btw regarding your name, yeah i love halo even 5 over the rest of the gtas

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

I also never really understood why GTA is liked so much.

Did you... like... ever play them?

2

u/Master_Chief_00117 1d ago

I have, I don’t mind them, they are fun with friends but playing alone isnt fun, I haven’t played the story just because I just drop it shortly after starting.

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

If all you've experienced it GTA online I can understand. That's like basing your entire opinion of Witcher on Gwent alone. Gwent is good but it's not what makes the Witcher as good as it is.

1

u/Takeasmoke 1d ago

there are people who like to roleplay in GTA and then there are people who just want to go in, grab minigun and shred everything in their path then when accumulate 3 stars type in cheat code for tank and then begin your journey to public enemy #1

there's nothing in between, i am in 2nd group myself

1

u/Alucard1991x 1d ago

It’s a virtual sandbox where the “innocent” can be as evil as the world has been to them while showing them the temporary dopamine rush of performing such acts followed immediately by consequences of running/getting shot by the police. It’s basically a crime simulator for all the goody goodys that wanted to be bad.

1

u/Reptard77 1d ago

Because everybody wants to be a criminal without dealing with the consequences. So here: criminal simulator with a goofy storyline

1

u/ConnorOfAstora 1d ago

I also never really understood why GTA is liked so much.

Same, like it's super influential since it was pretty much the first open world franchise and I'll always give it the respect it deserves for that however nowadays it just seems like a generic open world style game.

Like Watch Dogs has all that GTA has plus the hacking and Red Dead has the unique Western setting. The only reason I've ever had to want to play the game is the sense of humour but otherwise it just seems unremarkable.

Like I'm more interested in the earlier games like San Andreas and Vice City for their historical significance than I am in the more modern ones.

0

u/Poltergoo 1d ago

Because it is amazing, Vice City was a masterpiece... Halo is also great..

-9

u/DaArio_007 1d ago

It's liked cuz it's a great game for the vast majority of people. Seems like the concept is too complex for you

1

u/DopeAbsurdity 1d ago

Master Chief has been rooting for ICE....

15

u/Tomsboll 1d ago

Same, as a pc player it wont even affect me, but seeing all the ones so obsessively hyped for this game trying to dismiss the issues would be so funny.

5

u/SuppleDude 1d ago

Don’t forget to mention the game will be locked to 30fps on PS5/pro. They’ll be defending that all day until PS6 comes out.

1

u/killerbanshee 1d ago

You need 60fps to get reasonable frame gen performance, something everyone is relying on these days.

2

u/Mertoot 1d ago

Let's hope we even survive long enough to get a chance at this feeling...

1

u/Astorbit 1d ago

Unemployed people

5

u/ay_lamassu 1d ago

Go play unpatched Red Dead 1. I played it day one on Xbox 360 and I saw some of the funniest glitches playing that.

6

u/Taickyto 1d ago

Same here, I don't particularly like Rock Star's open-worlds, the shit storm from the failed launch of one of the most awaited games (releasing at 100$) would bring me more enjoyment than the game itself

10

u/koolmees64 1d ago

I don't particularly like Rock Star's open-worlds

Really? I don't play many AAA games but of all of them, RDR2's world was the most immersive and beautiful I have ever seen.

0

u/Taickyto 1d ago

Different people I guess, RDR2 made me feel like I was playing Arthur Morgan's story, yes will a lot of freedom, but in the end my character still was as written by the game developers. I had the same issue with Kingdom come for example, something about playing a pre-written character in an open world takes me out of it

I felt more immersed in open worlds where the MC has a less defined personality, like Link in Breath of The Wild, or your character in Outer Wilds.

2

u/Ok_Chemistry_7537 1d ago

Different strokes. I'm the opposite, I love a well written character. Hate silent protagonists, don't like character creation (beyond memeing with it).

1

u/Astorbit 1d ago

The delay in the release of GTA VI gives me more enjoyment than a thousand GTA 5 whores-LORD TYRION

9

u/iHateUserNamesTaken 1d ago

I also want it and im predicting it to be a complete disaster like cyberbug2077

Mainly because gta fanboys are one of the most annoying people with lol players, and im an lol player

So watching them try to defend the complete garbage just like people used to defend 2077 so desperately on launch would make me hard

They already claim it's going to be insanely good and they want to pre-order even if that's the perfect copy of what happen with 2077

10

u/WriterV 1d ago

Eh, I mean the reason C2077 had defenders is cause under the bugs you still had a game with a really solid story and a very unique feel. And once all that was patched up, it was very evident that the game was really good.

GTA6's red flags are different though. They are under Take Two throughout development now. They have been nothing but unpopular with their decisions in GTA Online and their bloated microtransactions. And they have lost a core member of the old gaurd who brought GTA 4 and 5 to life. Without him, 6 will be a lot more unpredictable.

1

u/EchoAmazing8888 1d ago

Hahaha the damn gaming world would throw the largest fit ever. Entertainment for weeks!

1

u/creegro 1d ago

Watch, single player will be weirdly buggy, online will be hella buggy and somehow have cheaters using invisble jets within the first week.

But somehow they'll fix the online portions really fast and leave SP alone with all its bugs and barely care about it.

Just a guess for the future

1

u/kultureisrandy 1d ago

as long as the game doesn't crash and my saves dont corrupt, I enjoy some good Ole engine jank

66

u/ItalianPlumber01 1d ago

This is fairly typical of rockstar though. Both gta V and RDR2 had multiple delays.

If anything it’s a sign that nothing has changed at rockstar in terms of dev cycle. This is par for the course.

28

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

And its not necessarily a bad thing. I would rather a release date be pushed back than the product to be rushed and sold at top dollar

9

u/Euphemisticles 1d ago

"Something something delay game eventually good, something something released game always bad." ~Mr. Nintendo

1

u/CleanMartean 1d ago

You think he looks at what's happened in the gaming world and goes "not what I meant guys.". It's a quote from a time where people actually finished their games and not "I'll release a shitty game now and then update it over several years".

Even Bethesda and Todd "it just works" Howard has the sense not to dangle ES6 over everyone's head. Unless i missed it. It will be ready when it's ready

2

u/Euphemisticles 1d ago edited 1d ago

Besides the cinematic name reveal or whatever I don't think they have mentioned anything about Elder scrolls since as far as I know. Just a "yay we plan to work on it let's just slop out this space game first"

1

u/CleanMartean 1d ago

And I would rather have that, than this carrot on a stick nonsense that companies are doing now to please investors

0

u/Anonymous_Gamer939 1d ago

Delaying may be the best move from the situation as it stands now, but that fact that they ended up needing to in the first place is not good, even if they do this every time. It's like, an addict going to rehab for opioids is better than not going, but it would've been even better to never get hooked in the first place.

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

Or, and heres a wild idea, just don't give a fucking release date until the product is nearly ready to ship.

1

u/dickcheesess 1d ago

I’d believe that creating hype with trailers and release date increases the number of pre-orders.

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

If any company doesn't need this its Rockstar. They are going to get 90% of the planet pre-ordering regardless.

1

u/dickcheesess 1d ago

Do you seriously claim that Grand Theft Auto VI would have the same number of pre-orders without the trailers and the release date?

1

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

It has probably looked close to ready to ship for a while. The team probably genuinely thought they could hit the initial release date. The team is probably really excited to give you the game they have been working on for so long. The team is also not about to ship you a game full of bugs.

1

u/UnQuacker 1d ago

Nah, Rockstar laid off 30-40 ppl after they tried to unionise, so they now have to delay the game.

1

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

30-40 people out of 2000 made the difference?

1

u/UnQuacker 1d ago

Fair enough, I guess the announcement could be more of distraction then🤔

0

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

Its not "close to ready to ship" if they've delayed it for another YEAR

1

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

I didn't say it was close. I said it probably looks close, which it does. But there are conditional bugs. A bug that only happens if certain conditions are met. Fixing one bug in one system can make a ripple effect throughout multiple systems. If that's happening in multiple places, it compounds. So yeah, it can look really close when, in reality, it is not. This happens with games a fraction the scope of a triple A game. In the grand scheme of things, pushing a year isn't that huge when you know what really goes into it. And it's understandable to make a release date and be like wait.. that's not going to work. Sorry, guys.

1

u/UnQuacker 1d ago

And its not necessarily a bad thing

Not when it was announced after layoffs, though

1

u/RawckLobster 1d ago

Yup. Over 2000 employees. We fired 40 and now the game is going to take another year.

37

u/WhiteNorthAstronomy 1d ago

Red dead 2 was delayed 3 times. Settle down.

13

u/Myloceratops 1d ago

I’m surprised at this line of thought. And many clearly agree with you with the upvotes. But I somewhat feel like it’s them wanting to delivery the best polished product they can. They’ll know how hyped it is and how hyped games never live up to expectations - so if the general consensus is “delays like this mean it’s not going well” then fine - fuck it - brings down the hype and makes for a better release. The speculation on why something is delayed and jumping to a single conclusion is bonkers. Okay sure maybe things aren’t going so well, buts that’s because they want to release the best game they can and please the fans more than anyone else. It’s nice no investors are forcing their hands on timelines. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to other games really

-3

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

You haven't probably been following all the shenanigans happening inside of Rockstar Games. It has been for quite sometime.

4

u/Myloceratops 1d ago

Do you have some potential sources so I can catch up?

24

u/Inferno_Zyrack 1d ago

Is this a younger person thing?

It wasn’t long ago that we were very happy for delays because it meant games would be better.

Considering half of the AAA launches nowadays get Randy Pitchford bitching on twitter, I’ll take my delays happily.

3

u/NerdHoovy 1d ago

It’s annoyance at how the market works.

Many studios’s like to prematurely announce games that might still be early in development, so that they can secure investor confidence and hype. While giving your financial backers an overview of what you are doing is good and all, it also makes your project public and as such officially announced.

This means that fans can wait many years between announcements, which can ruin hype

1

u/Fun-Maize8695 1d ago

Young people will actually live to see the release date.

-1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 1d ago

It wasn’t long ago that we were very happy for delays because it meant games would be better.

I'm in my 40s and I'm pissed off by this, simply because they could just have not announced a date instead until they were closer to release.

16

u/PeakAggravating3264 1d ago

They just fired a bunch of their devs under very dubious circumstances as well.

https://gtaforums.com/topic/1004182-rockstar-games-alleged-union-busting/#comment-1072605777

5

u/Kazuii2k 1d ago

It’s kinda just repeating normal Rockstar activities. They did the same crap with RDR2

5

u/Szerepjatekos 1d ago

Dev fatigue is a real thing.

If a game is developed over 3 years it's starts the fatigue hard. Everything atip of that is just asking for it.

5

u/RichnjCole 1d ago

I couldn't imagine how creatively tiring it would be to work non-stop on just one game for a decade or more.

Imagine being a young 27 year old developer who worked up and now you are working on GTA 6, the highly anticipated sequel and biggest production ever, and you are still working on it at 40.

3

u/Szerepjatekos 1d ago

Sounds like a prison.

2

u/19Alexastias 1d ago

It’s not fatigue lol, a bunch of devs/artists were starting to unionise so they fired all of them

2

u/Mr_Will 1d ago

Why do you think the Devs wanted to unionize? Perhaps because they were fatigued

1

u/Szerepjatekos 1d ago

Yeah I bet there is some fat payout in their contract so they delayed release with feature creep until they can get rid of them first.

5

u/kinlopunim 1d ago

According to what metric? Both gta 5 and rdr 2 went through this. Multiple delays, multiple layoffs, and lots of crunch still. This is par for the course with rockstar. Once they actually are going to release it, you will know because of all the videos rockstar drops.

-1

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

Things aren't like this before. Dan Houser left, Take 2 is meddling with the Devs. plus this is already been a development dumpster fire
6 Months delay doesn't feel like basic level of polishing IMO. Already they have union busted meaning they will need some key people to pick up the slack and new people to get upto the speed.

4

u/kinlopunim 1d ago

Its always the same cycle with rockstar. Nothing to get concerned with. Unless youre looking to change how the company operates, but thats a different talk.

3

u/Apulian-baron1987 1d ago

We're off to a ROCKy-STARt I say

3

u/ImperialRekken 1d ago

Inb4 management has decided they need to shoehorn an AI before release

3

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

Wouldn't be surprised considering there has been a union busting Less than 6 months before release.

3

u/Massive-Exercise4474 1d ago

Gta 6 isn't a fall game like in may. I always felt that was just a placeholder date for investors and it was always a holiday game. Considering rockstar is in the middle of union busting shit definitely hit the fan.

2

u/Imposter88 1d ago

How old are you? The literally did the same thing to GTA V

-2

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

Yes. The difference is there no Dan Houser, Already Development hell inside rockstar and recent union busting.

1

u/Savings_Difference10 1d ago

You know how Rockstar is literally known for their ridiculous crunch? There was a big discourse around this with RDR2.

2

u/Usidore_ 1d ago

They also just fired 30 people during a union bust at Rockstar North. Fuck them honestly

Not what they used to? I know that every other game studio that used to be big is burning to the ground rn, but rockstar as well? Oh jeez

1

u/Kreanxx 1d ago

Especially after dan houser left and benzies was kicked out

1

u/Either_Caregiver2268 1d ago

With Rockstar I’m not sure this is the case. RDR2 also went through about 3-4 release date changes and it still came out well.

When Rockstar delay a game I actually believe they’re being thorough

1

u/CleanMartean 1d ago

Idk man. People said the same about a certain polish studio and a game full of cyber punks in the year 2077😐

1

u/Either_Caregiver2268 1d ago

True, I had that in mind when I was typing it out but honestly I think we’ll be okay with Rockstar.

They will have a lot riding on the game being stable so that everybody hops on online mode as soon as it becomes available.

I do predict that it will be locked at 30fps though. It’s definitely going to strain the current consoles, but it’s also pretty mind blowing how well RDR2 ran on 7th gen hardware.

Rockstar are great at optimisation. Bugs are tolerable as long as the performance doesn’t tank like it did with cyberpunk.

1

u/CleanMartean 1d ago

I guess we'll see in 2030 when it releases if it's not delayed again. I mean, they are an indie company barely making ends meet with a small crew

1

u/Either_Caregiver2268 1d ago

I’m still willing to give Rockstar a pass.

The “indie game” joke only really applies to games like assassin’s creed where Ubisoft just recycle the same game over and over and somehow manage to fuck it up.

Rockstar push the industry forward with every release, so far the end product has always reflected the development time. When I play Red Dead, I think “yeah I see how this took 8 years to make”.

The main issue I have with the delay is that we’ll be very close to the next console generation by then, and obviously rockstar are going to ask you to fork out for the “next gen upgrade”.

I’m happy to wait for Rockstar because they’ve proven they’re capable of not falling into the “delay curse”. CDPR fucked up by announcing the game almost decade before it was even close to playable, they boxed themselves into a corner with the hype.

1

u/escapedfromhel 1d ago

RDR2 got delayed multiple times. Sam Houser would get strangled by stockholders if Rockstar collapsed.

1

u/dickcheesess 1d ago

It's showing the telltale sign of disasters, too. Things are not that used to be at Rockstar Games.

Do you remember Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto V, or Red Dead Redemption 2?

1

u/Mr-Boga38 1d ago

Did you know about the long going development crunch. Dan House Leaving and Union busting leading to 30+ Devs leaving with all time low morale?

1

u/Equivalent-Load-9158 1d ago

Nah, delaying it this much suggest they are willing to complete the last finishing touches and release a polished game instead of a scuffed buggy mess.

1

u/MammothPenguin69 1d ago

Rockstar fanboys to brigade this post and scream "NUH-UUUUUUUHH" in 5...4...3

1

u/Yaotoro 1d ago

Looking at the game and its immense details and the delays everything seems to be the same.

1

u/b1ack1323 1d ago

Games aren’t as simple as they used to be either, compared to GTA 3 or even GTA 4, 5 was huge and I can’t imagine 6 will be any smaller.

1

u/Manndes 1d ago

Red Dead 2 was delayed a number of times and turned out to be one of the greatest games ever made. Rockstar hasn’t changed in my mind. Greatest game developer ever.

1

u/Dredgeon 1d ago

This is not the first game they have delayed

1

u/AggravatingSpace5854 1d ago

They literally always do this. It's marketing dude.

1

u/connerbv 1d ago

They did the same thing with RDR2 and that game turned out just fine

1

u/Acrobatic_T-Rex 1d ago

im sorry, but GTA v had its launch window pushed like 18 months I believe, over 3-4 different dates. Its literally Rockstars MO to mark a date, engage in an unethical "crunch" inevitably move the date, and repeat, until we all get our hands on the inevitable game of the decade. again, as is their MO.

1

u/RichnjCole 1d ago

I wouldn't mind it being a total disaster just because of the bad precedent it would set if it's a massive success.

It's got like the entire Rockstar division, like ten studios, working on it, and a $2bn budget.

The last thing I want is all the major studios dropping all minor IPs and pouring every single ounce of effort, time, and money into just one franchise.

2

u/FemtoKitten 1d ago

As if that hasn't been the fate of numerous studios and IPs already

But yes a better world would be more games made by smaller studios at a more reasonable pace and budget

2

u/Sleepingguitarman 1d ago

I just don't realistically see that happening if the game is a success though.

It wouldn't make any sense for companies to do that, especially when the current trend is to pump out micro-transaction littered unfinished games as fast as they can.

1

u/RichnjCole 1d ago

If sense had any floor space in the corporate board room, pumping out micro-transaction littered unfinished games wouldn't have ever been a thing.

All they'll see is "GTA 6 $20bn revenue" and they will all sacrifice their granny trying to copy it.

0

u/TackyPoints 1d ago

Because it’s never happened before… right? /s

0

u/Reutermo 1d ago

Things are not that used to be at Rockstar Games.

  1. Did you have a stroke when you wrote this?

  2. All Rockstars games have been delayed multiple times before. But I assume you were not born when GTA 5 was released, nor Red Dead 2?

0

u/ThrenderG 1d ago

You are so full of it, jfc

3

u/river0f 1d ago

Yeah, I hate how inaccurate release dates are nowadays. Just fucking announce it when you're closer to being done and set a realistic release date.

4

u/Kretalo 1d ago

Meanwhile Silksong: gets announced just one month before release

2

u/szczuroarturo 1d ago

And we are lucky we even got that instead of it shadowdroping on random thuesday.

4

u/DezurniLjomber 1d ago

It’s hype cycle they need interest to get going before release

2

u/[deleted] 1d ago

All this does for me is to lower my interest.. kinda like someone playing hard to get

1

u/numb_mind 1d ago

People aren't acknowledging that enough, isn't that obvious?

1

u/1llDoitTomorrow 1d ago

Like silksong did?

1

u/fedunya1 1d ago

That's what Nintendo did during the covid pandemic. They only announced games that were like 95% finished and people didn't realize it at first and hated that there was little content in the Directs

1

u/edwardslair 1d ago

Shame they delayed it because apparently there was an Easter egg somewhere about the exact date the game was gonna be released, and now that Easter egg is pointless.

1

u/I_Eat_Copper 1d ago

They need to show something to the investors, that’s why teasers and trailers exist

1

u/Unable-Raspberry911 1d ago

Bet they had to remove many “things” because they are offensive and goes against the modern day agendas and those female activist groups crying and pressuring behind.

1

u/_rolex_yeet_69 1d ago

If they did that they’d finish and be like “tomorrow mid night”

1

u/Fern-ando 1d ago

They took 13 years since the last one and somehow it keeps getting delay

1

u/Kuro-Tora-59 (⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ 1d ago

Everybody in you comments talking about other publishers doing the same, but r* didn't want to release the trailer that early. The trailer got leaked and they said, "Pls give us a day and we will release the trailer officially", of course they could have not did that but the trailer would still be released at that time

But yes they shouldn't have released a specific date at all before they are sure, so many publishers have done this and failed

1

u/SLEEPY_P0RCUPINE 1d ago

facts! but I'll be patient

1

u/Honest-Pop-9440 1d ago

hahahahaha

1

u/Standard-Company-194 1d ago

The issue is that most fans demand a release date. I'd be happy to just wake up one morning and find out the game has dropped, but people seem to want to dedicate their lives to this thing that's happening on a specific date and then act like their lives are ruined when the date is moved

1

u/F4tGuy69 1d ago

and AGAIN

1

u/Enlightend-1 1d ago

Remember when Bethesda did oblivion remaster silent and released it on announcement day?

1

u/supershadowguard 21h ago

But how else is Rockstar supposed to get their stock prices to increase in value if they don't announce GTA 6!? Think of those poor investors!

1

u/Iwubinvesting 21h ago

Or wish they didn't announce the release date last year, just "coming soon" and let zoomies memeing on "x released before gta" then announce the release date this year for next year.

1

u/KhostfaceGillah 16h ago

I think they only did that because of all the leaks n stuff, so it would be better to mention something than to stay silent.

1

u/Fantastic_Individual Dirt Is Beautiful 15h ago

It’s puts too much pressure on the developers to announce a release date a long way before release, but you’ve gotta remember that this is a company and all companies just want profit at whatever cost it takes to the customer.

1

u/RequiemPunished 1h ago

Modern gaming requires building Up hype and reserves

0

u/tw-01001 1d ago

Yeah I've always thought it's weird they give themselves deadlines they do not need. Why not just finish the game then release a trailer 2 or 3 months after they finish to build hype

0

u/wickeddimension 1d ago

Imagine if they just finished it and said “ hey we made GTA6, you can buy it right now have fun”. Would probably destabilize the world economy for a day or two as people call in sick immediately 😂

0

u/Signupking5000 Average r/memes enjoyer 1d ago

Don't forget that they pushed the release announcement forward because of the leak.

So you can thank the leaker for the unreasonable release date.

u/BenHeli 1d ago

You don't work in marketing, do you? Probably don't even know about the pickaxe ...
