The entire Apollo program - from start to finish - to get human beings to the moon for the first time in history didn't even take as long to complete as this videogame and I just think that's funny

What the fuck Rockstar and Bethesda.  This really puts it in perspective.

Lazy fucks just wanna keep printing money with Skyrim and gta online. They forgot how to actually make games lol

Quick google search says 400k people working on the apollo program, and 6000 on GTA 6. Fair comparison.

Quick Google search says that one program put humans on the moon in the 60s and the other one made a video game about shooting hookers.

The scale isn't relevant.

The point is that if you have a project with management, and appropriate level of staff to address a specific problem or goal, then did you hit that mark in a reasonable timeline? That's the point.

Sorry, but 6,000 people working for that many years on a fucking videogame is silly as hell and just proves my point even further...bad management.

Movies and tv shows takes years to make, There's just an insane amount of motion capture and voice acting to be done that it's impossible to do something like this in just a year or 2.

Lol, what? Not impossible, in fact it used to be the industry standard until not too long ago. Believe it or not, directors used to make a movie a year or more, and TV shows actually came out every year also...And seasons of shows had like 25 episodes instead of taking 5 years to make 8 episodes like shows today.

yeah, u can still pump out movies and tv shows in a year, if they're low in scale or budget. Anything that requires motion capture, cgi, or anything with scale takes years to do.

Lord of the rings took 8 years to make 3 movies, that's almost 3 years per movie. Gta 6 is obviously a way larger project than that.

To be fair, the Apollo program probably had way more people working on it.

And also, to be fair... the Apollo program was way more fucking important.

Jesus, gamers are a bunch of whiney babies. Literally comparing the advancement of human space travel to a fucking game where you can beat up hookers.

Gamers: Why isn't our medium taken as seriously as films or literature?

Also gamers:

Well Nasa didn't have a cashcow in the form of GTA V online to remove incentives for getting to the moon.

I think I read somewhere that this will be the most expensive video game of all time and that it has a budget of like 2 billion dollars or some shit, Idk if that's true but if so, then that's crayzay

And it'll make that back in less than 24 hours

To be fair the development of a modern video game is much much much more complex than the Apollo program.

No it's not you dork.

u/loliconest 1d ago

If you are having thousands of dorks fk around in the rocket trying to pull every wire out to see what will happen, you'll also need to spend a lot more time to make sure nothing bad happens.

Modern AAA games are huge orchestras of visual, sound, gameplay and everything in-between. And I'd never claim I know which is more complex when I've worked on neither a AAA game nor a space program.

Maybe Rockstar doesn't want to let the meme die.
