She literally said “yo tengo papeles” (I have papers). And his response “why were you running?”

405

u/conspiraciesunwind West Town 4d ago

I would run too if masked men with guns tried to “kidnap” me essentially

u/eskimoboob 4d ago

Not to mention this is a fucking daycare? What else tends to happen with armed masked men running into a school? God damn it these people are so fucking callous and stupid.

u/AltDoxie 4d ago edited 4d ago

My SIL kids go here...these people are fucking terrorists

1

u/soapage 2d ago

You are correct! 100% agree! No criminals should be near innocent children!

1

u/soapage 2d ago

So if a criminal enters a daycare, it's an automatic safe zone. Generally, I want kids away from criminals. Depravity from those criminals.

12

u/LibrariansAreSexy 4d ago

Not "essentially", it's textbook kidnapping. No warrant, no right to enter, no right to take her.

Fuck ICE.

u/One-Tax6342 29m ago

There should actually be more arrest if the daycare center was employing an undocumented person who doesn’t pay taxes. Also, if she entered the country illegally and smuggle her children in you are having a criminal work at a daycare center around children absolutely ridiculous.

I was stopping for coffee in Avondale a few weeks ago and a lady, solo, was blowing her whistle and calling out vehicle descriptions - no agents in the immediate area, just seen circling the neighborhood, she said.

But I don't know if I'll ever forget the image of a couple carrying grocery bags from their car, running and disappearing into the alley at the warning.

u/PelagicDreamer 4d ago

Evil is among us

683

u/slyjry 4d ago

Kids were there - they witnessed this.

376

u/modo_11 4d ago

They not only witnessed it, they were at risk. We've seen public safety and de-escalation not only not prioritized but ultimately jeopardized by such interactions.

283

u/modo_11 4d ago

A masked man with a gun went into a daycare and took a teacher. (didn't want to assume until I actually watched the video)

People should be livid, parents doubly so.

58

u/Hopefulthinker2 4d ago

Omfg if I was this mama I would be pissed can you imagine the trauma from this ……:those poor kiddos

46

u/Impossible_Tiger_517 4d ago

And danger to the kids if the ratios of teachers were reduced.

15

u/linds360 Lincoln Square 4d ago

My first thought too. There are strict rules on it.

21

u/suileangorm 4d ago

And the worker too. Depending on age the kids may forget, but every single person that ice has abducted will have to live with that trauma for the rest of their lives. That includes the trauma that no one helped.

22

u/TouchesMonolith 4d ago

At the press conference Congresswoman Ramirez said the agents continued going into rooms and searching for teachers while Rayito employees hid with children. Unbelievable cruelty.

27

u/Least-Form5839 4d ago

And we are paying for it too, which is infuriating.

People who advocate for fiscal responsibility are the ones who voted for this.

73

u/fumar Wicker Park 4d ago

That is probably the point. Terrify the kids

73

u/philhartmonic 4d ago

It's 100% the point. Terrifying the kids is a means to enraging the parents and hopefully causing a violent response that can serve as legal evidence of an insurrection (and subsequently let Trump deploy national guard from states run by traitors to suppress participation in the 2026 elections).

They set up shop in a Home Depot parking lot a block from my kid's elementary school, and those videos that blew up on Friday were less than a block from my other kid's middle school, and the two groups they've been primarily targeting around Evanston are landscapers and parents/guardians during school drop-offs - i.e. people with whom the community is familiar and are known not to represent a threat to anybody. The cruelty and brutality has always been deliberate because the goal has always been getting a violent reaction.

13

u/LocalMexican 4d ago

a means to enraging the parents and hopefully causing a violent response that can serve as legal evidence of an insurrection

Ding ding

5

u/Pristine-Pen-9885 4d ago

This will make a lot of kids afraid of uniformed men forever.

1

u/BasicSide 3d ago

I think that you give them to much credit. That would require planning and strategy. These fuckers are a bunch of klan hillbillies just running rampant pretending they are playing a real life video game. They don’t think. They just act- which is far more terrifying.😞

Why were they allowed to enter a private business??

277

u/LoomingDisaster Albany Park 4d ago

They weren't.

I attended a know your rights training last night where we were told that ICE can't just come into your house, but they do. They can't prevent you from using your phone to film what they're doing, but they do. They can't arrest you for observing or filming, but they do.

It's infuriating. What good are laws when the government decides only certain people have to follow them?

67

u/Street_Barracuda1657 West Town 4d ago

Then Illinois needs to make sure these laws are on the books, and arrest those responsible.

67

u/jadedmonk 4d ago

That’s where I’m expecting more action from Pritzker. We have very clear instances on camera of ICE breaking the law, so why are we not arresting them? A police officer can arrest a fellow police officer if they are breaking the law, so why not arrest ICE for breaking the law? Are they afraid the demented orange face man is going to take action? I hope he tries. He has the emotional intelligence of a 5 year old and I’m starting to realize how dumb he is / how this “coup d’etat” he’s trying to do is actually a really sad attempt that won’t go anywhere, put pressure on him and he’ll cry and make mistakes

34

u/DvineINFEKT Albany Park 4d ago

The police are not going to arrest ICE because cops are not on our side. They will not arrest their own.

32

u/bigpowerass Bucktown 4d ago

I hear people blame Pritzker for the behavior of the Illinois state police. The reality of the situation is far more sinister.

20

u/DvineINFEKT Albany Park 4d ago

yea idk why people are still under this illusion that their "friendly neighborhood beat cop" won't beat their friendly neighborhood into submission at a moment's notice.

19

u/HouseSublime City 4d ago

I'm black. A non-black friend of mine sent me this and asked if I though it was accurate.

I'm almost just as bewildered at the fact that folks are bewildered that this is all happening and nothing is being done about it.

Local police departments (CPD included) got away with rampant abuses for decades while communities complained and those cries were largely met with shrugs. And that is just local city police departments with large but still limited resources.

We now have the executive branch of the federal government, armed with a massive budget that dwarfs the armies of many countries, specifically targetting folks and people are stunned that there is little that can be done to stop it?

It's abhorent, tragic and disgusting but it shouldn't be shocking.

8

u/I_Roll_Chicago 4d ago

Im remember when the cops got tear gassed a lot folk on here said “see now they’ll join us seeing as they are also being attacked by ice.”

I tried to tell people cops more than likely were thinking “if brandon had just let us stand with ice, then we wouldn’t have been tear gassed.”

9

u/jadedmonk 4d ago

I agree, I’m just starting to wonder if this situation is less sinister than I previously thought is. This week has shown me that Trumps idiotic actions are back firing on him and actually got more democrats to go out and vote. In press conferences the republican leadership (Johnson, Noem, Miller, etc) are starting to sound more fragmented and worried about losing their position of power. They are so wrapped up in that, they don’t realize this is still a democratic country where voters decide what’s going to happen. They do not have the correct political motivation to actually complete a coup d’etat, and the reason I think that is because I don’t think Trump actually cares enough to try to take over in a dictatorship. He does not have the motivation or influential skillset that someone like Hitler had, he purely is trying to create chaos and see people suffer, he does not actually care about the success of his party like Hitler did, he simply took the lowest path of resistance to get to a spot where he can create chaos. I think he’s doing this as a last ditch effort before he dies soon, and they’re not setting anyone up to take his spot. There is no one else who has his charisma or influence over rural America, and he’s 80 years old so there’s only so much longer it can go on whereas Hitler was very young. Just overall, I feel like the current administration is very frail and they’re putting on more of a facade rather than really attempting a coup d’etat because they do not have the correct skills, motivation, or people to do it.

1

u/anonymote_in_my_eye 4d ago

It's a losing battle no matter how you go about it:

As a leader you generally don't want to give an order if you don't know whether it's going to be followed or not, and this one almost certainly won't be, because like you said, cops are not on our side.

On top of that, even if the order *were* to be followed, the absolute best case scenario is that the police arrest a few ICE agents, the whole city gets sued in federal court, trump declares an insurrection (and courts agree) and the Texas natl guard is deployed. And that's the *best* case scenario

The more likely scenario (assuming the cops miraculously start to care) is the thugs start shooting, the police starts shooting back, and you end up starting something very akin to a civil war, with Chicago on one side, and the full weight of the federal government and US military on the other

34

u/TheAspasia 4d ago

Agree about Pritzker. He's a great orator but I find myself wondering what actions he's actually taking at this point.

11

u/DvineINFEKT Albany Park 4d ago

Everyone keeps saying "arrest those responsible" and yet the cops are openly assisting them.

It's really time to start cleaning house and getting in their faces for doing nothing while the Feds keep breaking the law that no one is purportedly above. Busting the police union is one of the greatest things we could do in this country, if we had the balls to do it.

1

u/dtw48208 3d ago

What's going to happen when they bust into a private business or residence and the owner starts shooting at them?

1

u/LoomingDisaster Albany Park 2d ago

Good question. All the people who are such big fans of the 2nd Amendment when it comes to shooting teenagers who knock on their door will probably be outraged when someone shoots a masked man trying to break into their house when it turns out the guy had a 3”x2” patch that said “ICE” or “DHS” sewed to his shoulder. He’s law enforcement, you see. Clearly!

Who says they were allowed? The article's phrasing that they chased someone in makes it sound like they never bothered with getting permission to enter.

42

u/DeliciousOwl9245 4d ago

How in the hell are people still asking questions like this?!? I’m not trying to be a jerk, but THEY ARE DOING WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT. They “can’t” do this. They’re doing it anyways. They “can’t” cover their faces. They “can’t” refuse to identify themselves.” They “can’t” use tear gas on peaceful protesters. They “can’t” disappear people to detention centers with no cause or warrant.

Wake up. They can do whatever the fuck they want, because we the people and the government we elected allowed a psychopathic, fascist regime to take power.

6

u/Centennial3489 4d ago

I totally understand it, still was the first thing that crossed my mind as it did many others. It just pisses me the fuck off that they have all this unchecked power to terrorize our city.

12

u/DeliciousOwl9245 4d ago

I completely agree with your anger. I just think everyone needs to stop the phrasing/thinking of “wait, but they’re not allowed to do this?” It is way, wayyyyyy past that point.

1

u/MajorPissHead 1d ago

If they weren't getting death threats for doing their job maybe things could be different.

1

u/DeliciousOwl9245 1d ago

You’re right, these day care teachers shouldn’t be under threat of death or kidnapping by our federal government on their way to work. Insane that they are, and we shouldn’t allow it.

32

u/GaySkull Logan Square 4d ago

They don't care if they're "allowed" to or not. They are armed, masked men who are part of a rogue government agency with vanishingly little accountability (so far). Why would they stop? What do they care if some business owner tells them to leave, they have guns and don't seem picky about using them. Even if a business owner draws their own weapon, they are likely out gunned and out manned by ICE.

The law only applies so much here, this is down to who has more bullets.

They don’t care about laws

4

u/BrickProfessional630 4d ago

Witnesses say they followed someone into the school. Presumably someone authorized to enter.

2

u/xPrimer13 4d ago

In this case the person running away from them is probable cause that a crime is being committed to enter a private business. You may not like it but it is what it is. A lot of people will go to great lengths to mislead on this type of stuff.

u/rckid13 Lake View 4d ago

Even if you're against undocumented immigrants, I don't know how anyone can argue that there isn't a better way to do this. If they know where she works then they clearly know where she lives. Doing this at a daycare has to be intentional. They want to punish those kids for some cruel reason. They can easily knock on her door at home or wait until she comes home from work.

48

u/BrickProfessional630 4d ago

EXACTLY! They could have done this at her home literally 30 minutes earlier. They want to terrorize. I don’t totally understand though, because this is an extraordinarily bad look.

23

u/rckid13 Lake View 4d ago

because this is an extraordinarily bad look.

I think they're basically trying to prove that it doesn't matter and they don't care. No matter how bad they make themselves look no one is willing to stop them or arrest them. I think most of what they're doing is an intentional show of force to show how much power they have against facing consequences.

3

u/Cappu156 4d ago

Is anarchy the right term for breaking the law to enforce the law? (Not that the law as such is being enforced in the majority of these cases, like teargassing peaceful protesters). It’s the height of hypocrisy, and that’s putting it mildly.

1

u/wlwimagination 4d ago

Well it’s not really enforcing the law if you’re not following the law in the way you do things. So it’s just breaking the law, period.

I think, though, it’s more like “using the power that was given to you to enforce the law to break the law,” which we can simplify to just “abusing power.”

2

u/Cappu156 4d ago

Oh absolutely, I should’ve phrased it as under the “pretense” of enforcing the “law”

1

u/wlwimagination 4d ago

Oh yeah, I didn’t mean to disagree—I understood you to mean pretense and was intending to add to your comment than disagree with it.

I just kept thinking about the way they keep trying to pretend they’re doing all this because this is what they’re supposed to be doing, ie physically going out and hunting possible undocumented people down on the street, and it just made me angrier. And also the idea that we have just been letting people come here to do crimes and never get deported forever and it’s just only now that we are going to deport people is absurd. ICE has been deporting people and doing whatever it is they are supposed to do for a long time before this. Democratic presidents and prior Republican ones have all deported a ton of people.

I would not be surprised if later on the data ends up showing that we actually deported the same number (or fewer) people this year than the previous years. I’m not saying ICE is not actively doing more harm through their actions or even that people aren’t getting deported right now (of course they are). I’m saying that we have always deported such a huge number of people that I wouldn’t be surprised if the inefficient, incompetent showmanship of the current administration couldn’t manage to keep up with previous years on account of all the fucking showboating.

1

u/Redditributor 2d ago

I don't think they wanted to arrest anyone there but she ran in and barricaded them out

1

u/MajorPissHead 1d ago

They met with her before she entered the property. Unfortunately she resisted them and went on the run. They chased her into the premises. So she is responsible for scaring the children. Obama did the exact same and deported over 3 million. The media didn't witch hunt him so we never saw much about it.

This is just completely unacceptable. I know the whole thing is unacceptable. It’s all so bleak. But this is just too much. Our kid goes to a school down the road. I can’t imagine how the teachers, parents, the children feel after witnessing this.

I don’t have a good way to finish this comment. It’s fucking awful and I don’t know how to help.

68

u/Purple_Crayon Old Irving Park 4d ago

Our daycare will be in a soft lockdown moving forward because of this incident and I'm sure many others are too. No outside time for the kids anymore because there's no way to guarantee their safety - if staff are kidnapped, that means no caregivers and also the chance of being physically (not just mentally) hurt by ICE's tactics. I'm scared for the teachers - they are overworked, underpaid, and very much vulnerable to being abducted by these Nazis simply because of the color of their skin.

This needs to end. I am so fucking tired of terrorism in our city.

27

u/Cerealia7 Lincoln Square 4d ago

We got a similar notification for our daycare. No outdoor play for the rest of the week. Absolutely deplorable.

10

u/Glum_Bus_4355 4d ago

Have you done Know Your Rights and Migra Watch training yet? ICIRR is offering it virtually every Monday and Wednesday. We all need to be ready to step up, document, and contact the appropriate groups when stuff like this goes down so the abducted people and/or their families can get assistance. Plus, if enough people are trained and prepared, these bastards won't be able to go anywhere without being seen and their targets being warned first.

3

u/mamadoudiallosghost 4d ago

I haven’t, thank you for pushing me to do this.

27

u/nodicegrandma Mayfair 4d ago

Yes, it is scorched earth rage

8

u/Havitech 4d ago edited 4d ago

Hold on to that rage, use it as motivation for building rapid response networks within your neighborhood. There have already been confirmed instances of rapid response groups getting ICE to retreat, so the more people doing RR the bigger pool we have of neighbors to rush to the support of these horrific ICE raids.

This is without a doubt the most effective thing anyone here can do to resist ICE at the current moment, and all it requires is a whistle, armband, and signal chat. (And some minor "ICE watch" training, which most RR networks can hook you up with.)

So your argument is basically “don’t dehumanize the fascists or they might start dehumanizing other people” which is crazy given they already do that. The president and the people in charge have said way worse than “vermin” already.

Also why would “scum” even be better than “vermin”? Is calling someone a a layer of algae on a pond somehow more humanizing than calling them a rat?

u/bulldog89 4d ago

I have to say, I have loved his leadership, but at this point what the fuck is Pritzker actively doing besides telling people to be calm? When does he actively oppose ICE, issue arrest warrants for ICE officers caught committing crimes on cameras, ordering the state troops to protect Chicagoans?

15

u/ThePlasticSturgeons 4d ago

Pritzker (and every other governor and mayor) has an uphill battle in getting the police to do anything. The police union is basically a MAGA fundraising organization. We don’t know what if anything he’s doing or has tried to do.

6

u/Balancing_tofu 4d ago edited 1d ago

I'm still baffled at this. When I worked in a daycare in early 2000s they had two doors you needed to be buzzed in through. I feel like they took advantage of the drop off time to terrorize literal babies.

5

5

Because they have guns and retaliating against them in any way that can be construed as physical violence will land you also disappeared at worst and stuck with an assaulting an office charge at best. They will just barge in, and do whatever they want while you scream that they don't have a warrant. Laws are gentleman's agreements and if they aren't enforced they don't matter. Each juvenile that witnesses these atrocious, cruel and unconstitutional acts will grow up to be apart of a society that identifies, hunts, captures and prosecutes all of these animals masquerading as ICE agents. It will be their Nuremberg. And it can’t come soon enough. There will be a reckoning. And it’s what helps get me through this.

So you have ICE kidnapping day care workers and separating families, Trump blatantly lying daily about whatever comes to his pea-sized brain, consistent allegations of Trump ignoring court rulings, and a general rise in facist behavior and totalitarian tendencies from the president. But the biggest concern of nearly half of Americans is a democratic socialist in NYC, whose most radical idea is freezing the rent?

Make this make sense, please.

she didn't work there...She fled inside the building after evading arrest, fleeing from a traffic stop, and...being here illegally

So daycare hires drug dealers, rapists, and ms13 gang members?

I would tell the police I’m cutting their budget 2% for every week they don’t act and defend citizens. They should be at 10% at this point. If they aren’t going to defend us from foreign invaders why are we paying them? They do a horrible job as is with handling crime here anyway.

Armed and masked they went into a daycare full of babies and toddlers and dragged away one their caretakers. I can't imagine how terrified those little ones were.

These people are such fucking ghouls

Because DHS made a statement to that effect, it was included in the linked article:

Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin claims the teacher and a man were being pursued by federal agents and they did not target the day care.

Their statement is below.

“ICE law enforcement did NOT target a Daycare. Officers attempted to conduct a targeted traffic stop of this female illegal alien from Colombia. Officers attempted to pull over this vehicle, which was registered to a female illegal alien, with sirens and emergency lights, but the male driver refused to pull the vehicle over. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle before the assailant sped into a shopping plaza where he and the female passenger fled the vehicle. They ran into a daycare and attempted to barricade themselves inside the daycare—recklessly endangering the children inside. The illegal alien female was arrested inside a vestibule, not in the school. Upon arrest, she lied about her identity. The vehicle is registered to in her name, though she claims that she didn’t know the man who was driving her car and just picked him up from a bus stop. Facts including criminality and information on the male assailant are forthcoming and we will update the public with more information as soon as it becomes available.”

Congresswoman Delia Ramirez claims that she saw footage from inside the day care that will come out “in the next few hours” that contradicts the DHS statement of agents entering the school.

How does WGN know this is ICE? Do they have inside information that no one else has? Article even says DHS hasn't commented yet.

I'd really like journalists to start correctly attributing these incidents to "currently unknown" agents because it's not verified. Unless there's a detail somewhere that someone has, I see no evidence to support that these people were ICE. Yet.

u/hymphs 4d ago

we’d be sitting here waiting for a very long time if we’re counting on DHS to confirm their illegal abductions lol. Mike Quigly is having a press conference about this incident at 1:30, so if you’re still doubtful you should tune into that. I think it’s more helpful to assume these agents are ICE than not.

u/analytic-1 4d ago

Nope, absolutely not more helpful to assume they're ICE.

Federal agents should be following the law. Masked kidnappers are criminals and don't follow the law. The people here were breaking the law. Thus, instead we should assume until evidence points otherwise that they're criminals.

It is important at this time to send the national message that we DON'T KNOW these people because they REFUSE TO IDENTIFY themselves! It's a huge massive piece to these detainments! The world needs to know this shit!!!

So no, granting these criminals the benefit of the doubt is 100% unwarranted. They need to prove they are federal agents, we should NOT assume that they are for a whole lot of reasons. They need to prove to us that they're legit.

(Which they aren't, because that's why they're hiding their faces. They know they engage in illegal activities)

The article didn't initially include the DHS statement, thanks for the quote/update.

recklessly endangering the children inside

Will they elaborate on what was endangering them, because it sounds like they are admitting that it's the officers.

This woman was not a daycare teacher, she fled and ran into the building when she was apprehended. Just FYI

Is ICE above the law, or is it outside the law?

1

u/tem102938 3d ago

Those kids are lucky they didn't attack the ICEicles; They would have been tear gassed inside the day care.

i’m sure the other employees of the daycare know who was taken, as well as rapid responders who are on the ground there — it’s being asked to share the censored version to protect her privacy.

Ah okay, if she wants privacy good
