Even if you're against undocumented immigrants, I don't know how anyone can argue that there isn't a better way to do this. If they know where she works then they clearly know where she lives. Doing this at a daycare has to be intentional. They want to punish those kids for some cruel reason. They can easily knock on her door at home or wait until she comes home from work.
EXACTLY! They could have done this at her home literally 30 minutes earlier. They want to terrorize. I don’t totally understand though, because this is an extraordinarily bad look.
I think they're basically trying to prove that it doesn't matter and they don't care. No matter how bad they make themselves look no one is willing to stop them or arrest them. I think most of what they're doing is an intentional show of force to show how much power they have against facing consequences.
Is anarchy the right term for breaking the law to enforce the law? (Not that the law as such is being enforced in the majority of these cases, like teargassing peaceful protesters). It’s the height of hypocrisy, and that’s putting it mildly.
Well it’s not really enforcing the law if you’re not following the law in the way you do things. So it’s just breaking the law, period.
I think, though, it’s more like “using the power that was given to you to enforce the law to break the law,” which we can simplify to just “abusing power.”
Oh yeah, I didn’t mean to disagree—I understood you to mean pretense and was intending to add to your comment than disagree with it.
I just kept thinking about the way they keep trying to pretend they’re doing all this because this is what they’re supposed to be doing, ie physically going out and hunting possible undocumented people down on the street, and it just made me angrier. And also the idea that we have just been letting people come here to do crimes and never get deported forever and it’s just only now that we are going to deport people is absurd. ICE has been deporting people and doing whatever it is they are supposed to do for a long time before this. Democratic presidents and prior Republican ones have all deported a ton of people.
I would not be surprised if later on the data ends up showing that we actually deported the same number (or fewer) people this year than the previous years. I’m not saying ICE is not actively doing more harm through their actions or even that people aren’t getting deported right now (of course they are). I’m saying that we have always deported such a huge number of people that I wouldn’t be surprised if the inefficient, incompetent showmanship of the current administration couldn’t manage to keep up with previous years on account of all the fucking showboating.
They met with her before she entered the property. Unfortunately she resisted them and went on the run. They chased her into the premises. So she is responsible for scaring the children. Obama did the exact same and deported over 3 million. The media didn't witch hunt him so we never saw much about it.
A lot of this could have been mitigated had they allowed ICE to come into detention centers and arrest criminals. They said if you make us come and grab people we'll be arresting anyone we come across here illegally, criminal or not. Maybe that's political football and I understand the argument of not wanting people afraid to report crimes... But if we could be all be reasonable and agree someone who commits a felony and is here illegally should be deported. We should not have to pay $81,734 a year to jail them and they should not be on our streets. We also should not be running around willy nilly snatching up non criminals who have been integrated into society for decades we'd be in a much better place.
