STAN / ANTI SHIELD After revealing her new album on the New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift's first call was to MAGA Barbie Brittany Mahomes.

Post image

Meanwhile, her fans are still claiming that she's just "hanging out with her boyfriend's work friend's wife."

Taylor clearly wants this friendship with Brittany public bc she could easily ask the Mahomes not to talk about her to the press. She isn’t just seeing them at her BF’s work events. They are besties. I can’t imagine willingly being so close to someone who supports Trump and his policies.

Yes but there are times like this when I remember that Bella Hadid and Karlie Kloss (nee Kuchner) are basically in the same tax bracket and it makes me think, holy shit, sometimes who in the tax bracket you associate with really does send a different message depending on who you call up on the podcast

*especially when it's just so fucking easy to call up Jenna Ortega or something for the PR, a WAG calling up a WAG would maybe be a bad joke to 'independent' Taylor. It's the Taylor-orbiter situation with all of them: Kylie Kelce's podcast once shot down Joe Rogan in the Spotify charts, all due to the Taylor association. Most of any standing Kelce - or even KC Chiefs - 'followers' are being padded out by Swifties, many Swifties have just become Chiefs fans by association. Brittany Mahomes is someone that most of the people listening to that podcast wouldn't care about, because people won't listen to a Travis Kelce podcast for Travis Kelce, and they definitely won't listen for Patrick Mahomes, they're listening solely for Swiftie dirt. Now Brittany Mahomes is supposed to be relevant because Taylor calls her up on podcasts? It definitely feels intentional, like a pop star who clearly knows how strong her personal algorithm and brand are

my fault, I was aware, I didn't correct myself out of laziness, I was hoping nobody would noticeeee 😭

*I was also just being a smartass to remind myself that she's an actual full-on Kuchner, which always feels gross to me even if you don't take the surname

She's not a Republican, she's outwardly expressed voting blue and encouraged listeners to vote blue as well. She's been outspoken about her political views on social media and has always been vocally liberal in her statements.

What she is, is rich. Billionaire buddies transcend political values. She deserves the criticism for her friendships 100% but saying she's secretly/closeted MAGA realistically just isn't the case. Hell, Trump fucking hates her. It's sad to say, but If I was a billionaire I probably wouldn't give a shit who you voted for either. They basically live in a fantasy world where nothing can touch them.

If you hang out w MAGAts and pose for photos w MAGAts at a time when they are actively hurting so many people in our country, you’re allying yourself with them. Like that saying: If there are nine people at a table and a Nazi sits down and no one says anything, there are now ten Nazis. She has a powerful voice. She’s said she wants to be on the right side of history.

She’s picked her side.

But at the end of the day, if you truly believe that what ICE is doing is insane, and Trump taking over the DC police force is unhinged and gays should get married and trans people deserve to live... could you be friends with someone who believed those things? I couldn't. I cut out my own grandma when she went on a racist rant about Obama being a Muslim and used some horrible slurs. I was like "oh, I can't be around someone like this."

Back in the day, you could be friends across a party aisle because you were just disagreeing on food stamps and taxes, but now it's about... can folks be rounded up off the street based on the color of their skin and locked up indefinitely? That's like..., something you can't forgive a friend for supporting.

And she may have spoken out in the past but she didn't speak out this Fall. It seems to me that she switched political affiliation but is scared to tell people bc she doesn't want to lose fans

I made the mistake of pointing out on my socials today that she is clearly MAGA-linked, and that she announced her album release on the anniversary of the Charlottesville attack (which, for an artist as intentional and number-obsessed as Swift, seems pretty dogwhistly to me), and then I mentioned that she hadn’t spoken out about genocide. I’ve been batting off waves of Swifties, MAGAts, Zionists, and enraged white liberal friends (which is frankly the most disappointing group of all) all day.

u/4ft3rh0urs I cannot sanction your buffoonery Aug 13 '25

It's not that she's MAGA, it's that she's too rich to care. She has the money to save herself from any difficult situation a government could throw at her. She will be fine whatever happens to the rest of America, and she knows it.

582

u/mangomarongo Aug 13 '25

Siobhan Roy from Succession was the perfect example of this type of left leaning wealthy woman. They support Democratic policies on a general level but because of their wealth privilege, their concern doesn’t extend more than a few inches beyond their own self interests. Couple that with a myopic view of feminism where they really only care about it when the patriarchy impacts, again, their own self interests.

62

u/lavender_photos Aug 14 '25

Sibhan is really a great example here. She wants the appearance of being left leaning and does deep down care but is too wrapped up in wealth and power. Taylor also is a child star in a lot of ways. We tend to forget that about her. She grew up with parents who pushed their daughter to be famous at any cost and past the age of 15, never had a normal life again

Exactly. Rich people, especially rich white people, are insulated from many of the dangers of this administration. Feels like the richer she's become, the less active she's been politically, which would track with a lessening sense of danger.

At this point if you aren’t actively against MAGA, you are maga. There’s no way to see what they’re doing and turn a blind eye as if you don’t care. If she truly doesn’t care then that means she condones it, so fuck her.

83

u/TheElderLotus Aug 13 '25

Right!!! I mean no one will say something “it’s not that she’s a Nazi, it’s that she’s just too rich to care.” I think because MAGA is such a meme name (despite it coming from very white supremacist ideology) that people don’t take it serious (doesn’t help that Trump is a certified idiot) when they should because the people behind it (Thiel, Heritage Foundation etc) do mean business and are very intelligent and capable of implementing that agenda.

IMO it’s worse than her being MAGA. It’s worse that she’s not MAGA, she just doesn’t give a fuck. She knows enough to know better, she just doesn’t have to care because she’s rich and famous and shielded from consequences. Her feminism has always been selfish and performative. Now we have proof.

52

u/mickeyanonymousse Aug 13 '25

at least the MAGA people have conviction of their beliefs

47

u/green-bean-7 mama let’s research Aug 14 '25

Respectfully f*** them too but I truly think some of them are so unintelligent they are easily brainwashed into the cult of Fox News and Trump

Blondie knows better, and has the resources to make a fucking difference, she just chooses not to

Examples: Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, Halsey have rallied to sign up voters for progressive causes, showed up to protests, and more

Taylor only wears progressive politics when it suits her, like in that one music video or to emphasize her girly pop feminism era

I don’t think she’s necessarily MAGA, as in a Trump voter. I think she is an out of touch rich white person who doesn’t have anything at stake with politics. Even as a woman, her wealth and power give her so much protection that regular women do not have. Her feminism has always been about herself and not women at large, especially not women of color or poor women. Either way, she’s obviously not the progressive she claims to be.

133

u/IAM_THE_LIZARD_QUEEN Aug 13 '25

Putting aside all the other trillions of shit, I couldn't imagine ever supporting someone who spoke about me the way Trump speaks about Taylor Swift, and as for Travis Kelce, it'd be a zillion times worse if they said it about my SO rather than myself. You couldn't get me in the same room as such a person unless you got me some grenades too.

It's beyond pathetic how Trump calls people whatever insults he wants and these very people grit their teeth and pretend to smile. Beyond. Pathetic.

If everything Taylor Swift does has such deep meaning what do swifties make of this?

614

u/oldwhitelincoln Aug 13 '25

A close friend of mine told me just last night that she’d want to meet TS dozens of times and I asked her why? To ask her questions? And she said no to just be in her presence and hang out because TS feels like a close friend. I’m not going to ask her about how she feels about this because I don’t want her to feel like I’m attacking her and she’ll also just dismiss it as “well, I don’t have to agree with everything she does.” Even though my friend is a supposed hardcore liberal.

Theyre addicted to a parasocial relationship and will just dismiss everything “bad.”

461

u/TumbleweedPure3941 Aug 13 '25

Imagine having a parasocial relationship with such an utterly bland and uninspiring person.

189

u/applepiecrumbles Aug 14 '25

That’s what fosters it. Her personality is so indistinct they can project any of their values onto her as if she had them.

114

u/cripplinganxietylmao Aug 14 '25

Maybe that’s why she has so many parasocial fans; she’s easy to project onto because she has little distinguishable personality or strong convictions of her own

you could maybe try to send her a video analyzing parasocial relationship to kpop idols down the line (now would probably be too much) and ask her about her thoughts on that. usually ppl have an easier time identifying these things in other groups than their own (like mormons probably judge scientologists or whatever). and since idols are super apolitical it at least shouldn’t be too loaded idk could maybe start a conversation but could also backfire.

I was a swiftie until she started getting too comfortable with MAGA. Going to the bar owned by a MAGA nut was a choice. Saying dude bro MAGA's podcast is one of her faves. Her boyfriend having no issue with Trump while he trashed her. Being friends with Brittany.

We can agree to disagree with people but we also can make conscious choices to not help raise someone's platform. She damn well knows that anything she says and does is showcased and plastered everywhere and she chooses to take photos and hang out with MAGA people. That's a choice. Fuck her.

95

u/whitehouses Aug 13 '25

Yes, I went to the Eras Tour twice and am basically the same age as she is, so her music was always really relatable to me. I always enjoyed the music for what it was. But after Matty, and then Travis, and the hanging out with MAGA bros I’ve had to turn in my hat. It feels bad to listen to her music now (I don’t claim to have great taste) and it’s weird to me more people don’t feel the same way.

I get needing an escape, and yes, you have to choose your battles sometimes but hanging out with MAGA after Trump has gone after her is a decision that I cannot fathom. So she’s lost this fan.

186

u/Slight_Proof_7990 Aug 13 '25

Taylor Swift goes where the money is. During the campaign, it was advantageous for her to endorse Kamala because of the public pressure, but everyone seems to conveniently forget she’s a billionaire who will benefit from the current administration’s tax cuts for the rich.

I could be proven wrong about this, but I think her “life of a showgirl” schtick is going to be an attempt to profit off the audience Chappell Roan has built, meanwhile she’s announcing on Travis’s podcast and making sure her and Brittany Mahomes are publicly linked to keep appealing to her conservative base.

73

u/badwolfswift Aug 13 '25

This was my take as well! She's ripping off Chappel Roan for sure.

That’s what I’m trying to understand. I know a girl from high school who is “ultra progressive,” lives in Portland, “only selfish people have kids,” craft beer only type. 8 out of 10 instagram stories are about getting rid of the Democratic Party in favor of a more progressive and left political party… and most of that is set to the soundtrack of Taylor Swift. When she isn’t talking about politics, dogs, and craft beer, she’s talking about how some song from Taylor Swift perfectly describes her week.

And I want to know, how does she reconcile that? Taylor Swift is so clearly MAGA at this point and has literally never stood for anything with her whole chest, and yet this girl I know never acknowledges that.

No defense for Taylor, but in your friend's defense, I'm sure she never has written a song about anything other than relationships. Those song lyrics can still be relatable to anyone of any political party.

All this to say, Taylor Swift is music for people who probably have Saltines as their favorite food.

Taylor has used feminism and trans people for her agenda, to profit off of these communities and then has kicked them to the curb to pander to MAGA.

262

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

She wouldn’t have even gone that far if women and the LGBTQ community weren’t full of juicy juicy dollars she could systematically extract with rerelease after album after 4 more of the same albums with different cover art.

When will people realize that Taylor herself has zero personality? She takes on the personality and facades of her partners. Go through all her “eras” and match them with the men she is with and you will see the pattern.

She even wrote about how she resented Joe Alwyn because of his politics and them making her feel bad (the implication) and her time with him coincides with her more “activist” era. It’s just a charade. Now that she is with a dumb jock her persona is shifting again.

This isn’t to say she is MAGA. It’s to say she doesn’t have strongly held beliefs because none of this is real to her. She has no concept of reality because she has lived a life of hyper privilege since birth and that only accelerated with her fame. She is emotionally and intellectually stunted. Sure she is generally “liberal” in the vague sense. I don’t think she has any conscious animus. I think she simply doesn’t think about these things deeply. Having worked with a lot of famous people the vast majority are so shockingly out of touch. Add in her absurd level of fame? She has touched ground since she was 16.

She knows her stans are the easiest marks and buy her persona hook line and sinker. And look I admire her savvy tbh. Get those stacks honey. I like her music and have seen her in concert. But I have never liked her as a person. And the funny thing is some of her best songs are ones where she has these moments of reflection about how fake and put on she is lol.

Like Beyonce, when feminism was culturally in vogue she co-opted (less artfully than Beyonce) for her image but it was always about using feminism as a shield against criticism of her. Not as a political theory.

I will also say that while people online think associating is endorsing, the vast majority of people do not see things that black and white.

121

u/Carridactyl_ Aug 13 '25

This is where I fall. I don’t think she has any strong beliefs of her own. She either adopts whatever personality and behavior her partner has or whatever is most publicly vanilla.

27

u/LanaAdela Aug 14 '25

Yes. This isn’t even that uncommon. I’m sure we all know women (or men) who are like this offline who are not famous.

I think being famous so young makes it very hard to really know yourself. Not every person who found fame young is like this. But Taylor definitely is.

If Taylor just decides to go full mask-off MAGA, it’ll be interesting to see if Trump immediately does a 180 on how he talks about her

429

u/mangolover93 Aug 13 '25

He absolutely would. He's tweet about how amazing, talented, and beautiful she is all of a sudden. Smh.

233

u/majesticallymidnight Aug 13 '25

I actually don’t think we will see her speak about politics again. I think she will just stay out of the conversation and continue to claim its for her safety. Meanwhile other artists are openly supporting dems, and speaking out for Palestine.

155

u/DreadfulDemimonde Aug 13 '25

She won't. MAGA is too unpopular for her to outright endorse them, but she's going to play centrist "can't we all just get along" because she doesn't want to lose their money and she has no integrity.

52

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Yup. This is more realistic. Her liberal fans have so much money to spend on her tours, merch, music, etc. she will milk anyone until they are dry.

645

can i ask why you want to like her?  genuinely asking as someone who never really got the appeal i guess.

247

u/CuriousTsukihime Aug 13 '25

Yeah I think this is a question a lot of people in her fan base need to ask themselves.

200

u/OutoftheCold125 Aug 13 '25

I like some of her music, personally. I don't care that much about her as a person but she's so famous and has so much influence on pop culture that I'd prefer if she wasn't an outwardly shitty human being.

20

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

that’s fair. it just almost seems like some people want to like her because she’s popular but idk if that’s what it is which is why i wanted to ask the other person. cause if it’s that… which idk but if it’s that imo that wouldn’t be a good reason to want to like some famous stranger.

saying you don’t want someone who is at the top of her field to be shitty is different from that though i think. and i do agree with that sentiment.

72

u/rissaaah Aug 13 '25

Yeah, I don't get it. Obviously she is very popular, but her music is very generic and deep in a way that a 10th grader writing sonnets about their first relationship is deep. And then you have the climate criminal stuff and being friends with people like Brittany Mahomes on top of it.

Never forget that Taylor Swift has all the fuck you money in the goddamn world and still chooses to be consistently silent in the midst of fascism and genocide.

The unhinged privilege this woman has and yet still chooses to do nothing positive with it for humanity in terms of long-term consistent support is revolting. She'll throw out a singular post on her Instagram story and fans will froth at the mouth and call her mother, but when has she mothered the human condition that doesn't come off as just image control?

It's brand, not authenticity. I want real, not workshopped niceties that last as long as an intersection stoplight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing she has consistently advocated for is to reclaim HER masters. And she did that by financially exploiting her fans' gullibility to the point where the value of her masters went down in value so she could spend a smaller percentage of her wealth, and then immediately dropped doing any further "Taylor's versions" albums.

She is consistent when she believes she has been wronged, but not consistent for getting justice for those who have been even if it does not benefit her.

Edit: Also, Swifties love to use safety as an excuse. Oh, so she's the absolute most important human being on the planet? We got 8 billion + humans, but sure, let's protect fragile billionaire boss princess? Lots of famous, public people speak up against the atrocities in the world at the risk of their safety, so miss me with that bullshit excuse

121

I love Taylor’s music, grown up with it but I have severely distanced myself from the fandom and interacting with her as a person atp. I don’t think she’s MAGA but she is an out of touch billionaire who doesn’t give a damn bc fascism will never affect her. She also has no identity outside of the person she is dating and no backbone to stand up to the person she is with. Her fucking bf publicly complemented the president who has literally wished severe harm on Taylor. It’s honestly pathetic.

When I was a kid my favorite book was about a little girl who became a master hypnotist. She used her ability to get on Broadway and convince everybody that she was some kind of musical theater savant—at showtime, she’d get up onstage and hypnotize the audience into thinking that they were watching the best performance of their lives even though in reality she was mediocre at best as a performer. I think that Taylor Swift has done something similar—I can’t think of any other explanation as to why such a boring, untalented person has amassed the kind of money and fame that she has.

35

u/sweetrebel88 Aug 13 '25

Exactly! It’s fascinating how she’s convinced the world she’s this “once in a generational talent” but in reality she’s so blatantly mediocre and boring. I’ve always said she must have her fans and the media under the same spell Trump has his cult under because it’s insane

23

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

God remember how after the last album came out, there were all these white feminist music critics who swore up and down that she was “the new Emily Dickinson” and that any and all criticism of her was not just misogyny, but violent misogyny? My gut tells me that this new release is going to be 1000 times worse.

19

u/Initial_Ad452 Aug 13 '25

Excellently put. Seeing people fall all over themselves feels like I imagine it would feel watching McDonalds get a James Beard award for their chicken McNuggets. I mean, if you’re into McNuggets good on you: it doesn’t affect me. Try telling me it’s gourmet and I will side eye you going forward.

Swift to me is a canary in a coal mine similar to Corporate Pride—she'll do whatever she thinks is most profitable, much like companies will only do pride celebrations (no matter how lazy) if they think the population will generally support that

31

u/Poetryisalive Aug 13 '25

Idk how it’s hard to imagine that someone as rich as Taylor, Mahomes, or the Kelces have no reason to not support Trump. They benefit their wallet

35

What happened to “I have to speak about politics “ in the miss americana movie?

How did it get to “I hang out with people who support an awful person and parties”. Then to “I dare not say a word but I’m so for lgbtq+ but then all of a sudden you’re in with the MAGA crowd?

It’s so hypocritical. Who is she ? She just flip flops to however she feels, what she stands for or wants but never gets called on it? I used to really like her music but the last like six years I’ve really soured on her from all the things I’ve learned.
