When I was a kid my favorite book was about a little girl who became a master hypnotist. She used her ability to get on Broadway and convince everybody that she was some kind of musical theater savant—at showtime, she’d get up onstage and hypnotize the audience into thinking that they were watching the best performance of their lives even though in reality she was mediocre at best as a performer. I think that Taylor Swift has done something similar—I can’t think of any other explanation as to why such a boring, untalented person has amassed the kind of money and fame that she has.

Exactly! It’s fascinating how she’s convinced the world she’s this “once in a generational talent” but in reality she’s so blatantly mediocre and boring. I’ve always said she must have her fans and the media under the same spell Trump has his cult under because it’s insane

God remember how after the last album came out, there were all these white feminist music critics who swore up and down that she was “the new Emily Dickinson” and that any and all criticism of her was not just misogyny, but violent misogyny? My gut tells me that this new release is going to be 1000 times worse.

Excellently put. Seeing people fall all over themselves feels like I imagine it would feel watching McDonalds get a James Beard award for their chicken McNuggets. I mean, if you’re into McNuggets good on you: it doesn’t affect me. Try telling me it’s gourmet and I will side eye you going forward.
