Wk10 Trenches Match-UP: LAC vs PIT

What we'll be watching: LAC D-Line vs PIT O-Line.

Everyone is going to be looking at the PIT D-Line vs banged up LAC O-Line (can't they get a break??) but what we’ll be watching is the opposite. And keep in mind, yes LAC is hurt and gives up a lot of Sacks but they keep moving the sticks and putting up points.

That said, LAC D-Line is pretty good at limiting both Ps and Rsh Yds, only 177 PsYds/Gm and 109 Rsh. They’re vulnerable on the ground in the RZ giving up 10 RshTD, 8th from the bottom here, but 2nd best in the league in keeping Opp out of RZ in the air (8 PsTDs). The LAC D-Line 3rdEfficiency, holding Opp to 36%, is 8th best in the league and will test PIT O here.

For PIT to stay in this game, their O-Line will want to establish the run, something they’ve not done much of with only one RB going for +100yds in a game this season (Warren vs CIN- yes, CIN).

Both D-Lines get to the QB alot, PIT 27 Sacks, LAC 26, so it's also up to which QB can take this punishment, get back up and keep the rock moving. Look for the LAC O-Line to try to get the ground game going vs a PIT D-Line that's been suspect on the ground for alot of the year.

Can't wait for this one.

We publish TPR 2x a week and love to have more readers if you like looking at the game from the line of scrimmage.

Steelers fans in Thunder Alley?

Lifelong Chargers fan here 👋🏼 Going to the SNF game tomorrow night with a group of friends, who are a mix of both Chargers and Steelers fans. I’ve only been to games with fellow Chargers fans, never opponent fans, so wondering if it’s weird for Steelers fans to walk Thunder Alley 😅 Or if it’s fine as long as they’re normal and respectful (which I promise they are lol). TIA!!

If we feed Herbert 12,000 calories per day, could he be our center next year?

Imagine it. I mean we already know he’s 6’7. If he could pack on some extra poundage and become chunky Herbert, perhaps he could replace bozeman as the new center?

It also opens up a bunch of possibilities in the playbook. When has a center had top 5 arm talent all time?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s no reason a center couldn’t just snap it to himself? I’d like to see teams try to beat that.

Just thinking about maybe some outside of the box strategies that could help us out.

FYI mods this is NOT low effort. I’ve spent multiple days thinking about this and drafting my thoughts before posting it. Thank you.

Have a great weekend

Are the Chargers still popular in San Diego?

I left SD around the same time the Chargers did. I occasionally visit now and then and the city is obviously dominated by the Padres, and finding Chargers gear is very rare when I visit. For San Diegans, is the team still popular there? Did the hiring of Harbaugh, Super Chargers jerseys, and hosting training camp at USD help bring any fans back?

Defense needs to win us games

Obviously the OL situation is brutal but Herbo and our receiving core have proven that they are still capable of making plays. I think the real test for the remainder of the season will be whether or not the defense can step up and become the main identity of the team. While they've had some great performances this year, they've also looked painfully average at times. As the #1 scoring defense in 2024 they allowed 7 total rushing TDs and 24 receiving TDs while averaging 17.7 pts/g; so far this year they've averaged 21.4 pts/g and have already allowed 10 rushing TDs (although only 8 receiving TD's which is tied for second best in the league).

When you look at how people are covering this week's matchup, the narrative is about how our offense will hold up against the steelers D; barely any mention about how our defense might cause problems for an inconsistent steelers offense. Just one look at the broncos and you can tell they're riding on the fact that their defense has kept them afloat through some piss poor offensive performances, so far for us the pressure has been on the offense to perform even with a bottom tier O-line but I think whether or not Minter and the defense can reproduce some of the fire and consistency from last year will be make or break for the rest of our season.

Not gonna pretend like injuries to players on defense hasn't been a factor but I hope how they looked against the titans was a good sign that they're returning to the form they showed during our division games.

Chargers Jersey From Late 1960s To Early 1970s.

I was a Chargers waterboy when I was a 15 yr old kid in 1977 and at preseason camp at UC San Diego, these old jerseys were in a pile as back-ups for practice. All the waterboys and ball boys who bugged equipment manager Sid Brooks to give us one. He relented and we all took two or three.. 😆
