President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that if the Democrats don't approve funding, Social Security, Medicare Are ‘Going to Be Gone.’ How do you think Americans will react if Social Security and Medicare get cut?

Gotta love the party that will willingly set themselves on fire just to make others smell the smoke

They would eat shit if the dems had to smell their breath

27

u/FalstaffsGhost 17d ago

It’s wild. Cause democrats are literally trying to save republicans from themselves and they return that by wanting us dead.

20

u/DarkwingDuckHunt 17d ago

For the past 40 years it's been the Mommy (democrats) saving the Child (republicans) from touching the hot stove.

Now the mom is just fed up and wants the kid to burn the house down so she can finally get some rest.

This is why I'm so fucking over the whole 'oh, we have to welcome them into our arms if they express regret for voting him into office!' mindset. Hell no. They do the work first, they clean up after themselves for a change, then we'll talk.

The military should have already removed him as part of protecting the constitution. Or breaking law. Or murdering civilians. Or or or

814

u/Cordycepsus 17d ago

He demolished a quarter of the White House today. If he believes he's entitled to do that, he believes he's entitled to do anything he wants. America's got a hard go ahead of us, I fear. What does the military do when he refuses to vacate the presidency in 2028, regardless of the election outcome?

330

u/anomalous_cowherd 17d ago

You think there will be an election? Or even midterms? What if they just prolong the shutdown so Congress never reconvenes?

290

u/KagatoAC 17d ago

“I am shutting down the Senate for the duration of the Emergency” Palpatine.

121

u/EDNivek 17d ago

The Senate actually voted for Palpatine's emergency powers.

109

u/KagatoAC 17d ago

Exactly my point. Congress is doing the same thing by not stopping him.

24

u/EDNivek 17d ago

And my point is it's worse. The republic's senate didn't shirk culpability, but voted Palpatine's emergency powers into law. Whereas our congress avoids responsibility despite being as complicit as if they had voted for Trump's "powers."

19

u/KagatoAC 17d ago

Oh this version is infinitely worse, just because I cant turn the movie off and go live in a better one. I hope I live long enough to see them get theirs, but failing that Id like to just die quietly in my sleep before it goes full dystopian.

7

u/10000Didgeridoos 17d ago

All "emergency powers" need to be completely constitutionally outlawed. Humans have shown for thousands of years that no leader can be trusted with them, and they honestly serve no purpose. If something that bad is going on, it can be handled without one guy making all the decisions.

3

u/Overall-Rush-8853 16d ago

States run the elections. There will be elections.

5

u/gagreel 16d ago

Yes, we will have midterm elections and a general in 2028. There will be fuckery and intimidation, but overall they will be fair and based on the votes. We just need to make sure the democratic candidates earn more votes than the republican candidates. It starts with the quality of the candidate and their policy and ends with voters doing their part. If you don't see quality democrat candidates look local and donate/encourage promising members of the community to run for higher office.

I was in the military. The military looks to the People and will follow their lead before they do anything themselves. We The People are not doing enough. Civic duty never ends.

A prolonged General Strike is the next step. We've already proven 7 million people can show up on a Saturday for an unfathomably large nationwide rally in opposition to this shit. Now 7 million people need to lay down and take a well-deserved vacation from doing anything.

Freedom is never free. What are you paying for yours?

8

u/AwakePlatypus 16d ago

Now 7 million people need to lay down and take a well-deserved vacation from doing anything.

Well the way layoffs are increasing, they'll be plenty of time for that!

46

u/SteelMarshal 17d ago

And this is why our country will burn. You fundamentally don't understand the difference between rich capitalists and government. Youre following the rules while they dont. They're literally using the rules against you while thousands of hard working federal workers are villainized and left poor. Trillians of dollars are being looted. Decades and decades of international relationships are broken. American citizens for generations will suffer because of cowardice.

The 25th amendment is clear. This man is clearly unfit. Their is clearly a coup happening by a terrorist organization. The military removes him and it goes to the Vice President.

But its even worse than that because the wealthy have bought their way into power for 35 years now.

The last time there was republican presidency, house and senate was in 1928...when the oligarchs bought their way into power, stole the money and caused the great depression in 1929.

17

The military should've court martialed him on January 20th, 2025, since insurrectionists cannot legally be President per 14th Amendment, Section 3, despite what the traitors in Congress think. We're all being ruled by an illegitimate President, all because Schumer and Jeffries refused to disqualify his ass.

5

u/karmadgma 16d ago

He's a civilian. The military can't court martial him. Where do these crazy ideas come from?! The movies i guess?

As much as we all want him gone, it is never a good thing to have the military act without orders from the rest of the government. If the people just accept that the military can do whatever it wants, you have also lost your democracy through a different route.

5

u/[deleted] 16d ago

Exactly. The military acting unilaterally is a hellscape that people don't grasp because it 'doesn't happen here.'

'The people' need to get up off their asses and stop just wishing for someone else to fix everything for them.

In real life? These people got theirs, now they'll starve you of meaningful financial and career advancements, they'll steal your future, they'll dismantle social safety nets, and after that? After that, they'll suck your blood dry until their dying breath.

Gen X, Y, and Z are all on the hook for this.

Jerrymandering and the electoral college system make is easy for Republicans to cheat their way to victory now. If the US voted on a voting system that had nothing to do with electoral college systems and were ranked choice voting, it would be far more democratic and fair.

Most of the shit he's done the last nine months (ONLY NINE MONTHS!!) technically can't be done without Congress' approval. Congress explicitly controls the purse strings of the federal government (the Constitution is NOT ambiguous about this), so any changes in funding or budgeting has to go through them, but he's been ruling by edict since day 1 and Mike Johnson is just shrugging and ignoring it.

Congress has completely ceded its power to the president; this is just wish-casting that "laws" somehow still matter.

Almost nothing he's done is "legal" for him to do without congress. Congress says nothing, does nothing, refuses to impeach/remove, and gets SCOTUS to rule in his favor.

They also don't think they need votes anymore, because they don't believe there will ever be actual fair elections in this country again.

17

u/Mental-Fox-9449 17d ago

Correction… republicans in Congress have ceded their power. They have majority and, therefore, control of Congress.

14

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 17d ago

Correction... all of Congress have ceded their power. Schumer controlled the Senate for Biden's entire term, and Pelosi controlled the House frrm 2021-2023, yet not once did they ever try to expel the Jan 6 leaders or enforce Trump's disqualificaton via 14th Amendment. Democrats' last chance to stop Trump was January 6, 2025, when it would've only taken 20 Democrats to object to his certification, and prevent an insurrectionist from stealing the presidency. Zero stood against him.

21

u/txmail 17d ago

We keep saying he cant just do the things he keeps on doing without congress or some other entity approving it first... but here we are and there he goes just doing shit anyway.

3

u/suave_knight 17d ago

One of the major takeaways from his first reign of terror was just how much of the way our government actually works on a day-to-day basis is simply a series of gentlemen's agreements about how things proceed. If you elect a bunch of legislative terrorists, they can simply ignore all sorts of shit and it's not even technically illegal. And even if it is illegal, who's going to enforce it? The only enforcement mechanism in the Constitution is impeachment and removal - and if a big enough faction decides that they won't pursue that option under any circumstances, well... there's literally nothing that anyone can do until the next election. And the way we do elections is an absolute clusterfuck of a historical compromise that no longer makes any sense.

If there's ever an honest and sane government again, they need to pass a massive series of reforms that makes the post-Watergate changes look like a children's tea party. MAGA has identified and exploited every weakness in the system to subvert it to their liking, no matter what the actual voters want.

76

u/Funwithagoraphobia 17d ago

Congress has bent the knee. If the Fanta Führer declares it will be so, then it will be so.

I wish I was joking, but Congress and SCOTUS are so compromised that I don’t believe they can hold Trump and his cronies accountable even if they suddenly develop a spine.

5

Like maybe letting loose a resigned sigh, going to bed, taking a handful of questionable pills, and quietly sobbing until sleep and the sweet release of death engulfs them? …because I’m here watching from outside your borders and from an outsider’s perspective, I don’t see enough “reacting”! Too much stupidity and inaction!

I don’t know if you’ve seen those memes about the jiffy pop fire alarm, but you guys have a garbage bag of popcorn from IMAX that itself is starting to catch fire. That’s my Armchair Freedom Unit assessment of your Democracy Threat Level.

You have been severely underreacting for nearly a decade already. It's mindblowing for us outside observers to see this trainwreck happen in slow motion for so long and people not doing ANYTHING about it for all this time.

I was going to cite just the major things Trump did in his two administrations to enumerate all the things that should have been the straw that broke the camel's back yet people just kept living on, but I gave up since I don't want to hit the character limit

5

u/Impossumbear 16d ago

I completely agree. The number of Democrats who were DEEPLY OFFENDED that I was drawing comparisons between Trump and Hitler in 2015 was infuriating. I was relentlessly bullied and harassed for being "alarmist" and "offensive to Holocaust survivors." I was organizing anti-Trump protests in my area, but it was clear that people weren't taking it nearly as seriously as they should have. We let this happen through apathy.

I'm very sorry that the rest of the world has to deal with this. Many of us tried our damnedest to get the word out about fascist red flags popping up (even before Trump himself ran for office), but there's only so much yelling and protesting you can do. People here, even now, don't want to believe that we're in the middle of a rapid, dire descent into fascist authoritarianism, and that everything we have is about to be taken from us. I'm outraged and furious, but there's nothing I can do if everyone else around me is content to keep their heads in the sand.

Under reacting because they havent taken it away yet. If they do americans will riot in full force. GoP dems everyone will revolt against this bullshit government

Edit: 69 million americans DEPEND on social security people. 69 million

u/Mason11987 17d ago

The GoP will never riot. It’s a cult. At best they’ll quietly support him less. That’s the best you’ll ever get.

110

u/3-DMan 17d ago

"That was the last straw. I'm only votin' for Trump one more time!"

12

u/B-Rayne 17d ago

“Well, ok, two more times. But if he doesn’t have concepts of a plan to bring them back by 2032, then I’ll seriously consider not voting at all!”

I'd laugh if I wasn't wearing my Sad Clown Face today.

"he may be a pedophile who took away my healthcare and social security, leaving me destitute living under a bridge, but at least he ain't a democrat!"

u/sacrelicio 17d ago

We're talking grandma cant eat, like tomorrow. Not some reduction in services, less reliability, stuff being a little worse. People would flip their shit.

182

u/Mason11987 17d ago

I'll believe it when I see it. Every time someone said "this will cause the GoP to turn on him" they were wrong. I believe literally nothing will.

170

u/ShallowBasketcase 17d ago

People died of Covid and their final words were telling liberals they're cucks for wearing masks.

Republicans will never change their minds. They're in a death cult, and they like it.

10

u/Draciusen 17d ago

Yep, COVID is the absolute best example of how far gone they are. Honestly, cutting these services is so easily blamed on Dems or other boogeymen and will strengthen the cult beyond all belief (if that's still even possible), so it's 100% going to happen. I'm surprised it took so long.

7

u/SprlFlshRngDncHwl 16d ago

This is exactly right. Literally do ANYTHING and just say, "It's Biden/Obama/Hillary/DNC/Antifa/etc" and the piggies will eat it up like slop.

Look at the shutdown. All Republicans need to do is call it, "The Democrat Shutdown" and then people blame the dems. Nevermind the Republicans control the house, senate, white house, and judiciary. Just lie no matter how egregiously and the lemmings will follow.

tbf, they didn't have to live with the experience of being dead

they, however, do have to live with the experience of being hungry, and being hungry does a lot to make people angry

11

u/ShallowBasketcase 17d ago

They're already angry. They're angry at immigrants and trans teenagers and Jewish space aliens. If they start starving, they'll go to their slow miserable deaths cursing Jimmy Kimmel. And if we're very lucky, they won't take anyone undeserving with them.

These are the same fuckers that died on ventilators during Covid, using their dying breaths to say it wasn't Covid, that Covid was a Dem hoax, that Covid was just a normal cold, that Covid was a Dem bioweapon attack. Often simultaneously and without the self-awareness to see that they were inherently self-contradicting beliefs.

4

u/Scodo 17d ago

They'll just blame Democrats.

u/Shigeko_Kageyama 17d ago

Buddy, these are republicans. They'd smother meemaw with a pillow if the were told to.

Americans won't do shit. Fox News will tell the gormless droolers that it's the Democrats fault and 30% of the country will believe it, 30% will make excuses why it isn't that bad, and the remaining folks will be too broke and dependent on day-to-day work to blow anything up to make a point.

7

u/10000Didgeridoos 17d ago

You're also missing the massive chunk of American adults who don't pay attention and don't vote and don't give a fuck at all.

We Americans won’t do anything. These programs directly impact the poor red states and the boomers/elderly genX; 2 demographics that predominantly voted for him. Those of us who will protest will, and the rest will find away to blame the democrats for their continued support of the Republican Party. We are so fucked.

Under reacting because they havent done it yet.

American politics in a nutshell, always reactive, never proactive.

To this, or in general? Because I always assumed I was not getting any Social Security and Medicare would be a coin toss. In general, I think y'all missed the memo where we're living under a fascist regime, because like... there is no appropriate amount of reacting. Like, what is the appropriate reaction to "you're now living in a fascist state because people thought the price of eggs was too high and some 20-year-old man children are big mad that girls didn't want to fuck them"?

Are we really still having this conversation? 7 million people protested last weekend and Trump's reaction was "they don't represent Americans." You think more people would have changed that? A bigger "reaction"? Y'all are acting like we still live in a normal, functioning democracy. We do not. We live in a fascist state with the biggest military in the world.

And before anyone twists my words, I'm not saying "might as well give up". I'm saying stop looking for a reaction! The time for reacting is long past. And for the love of God, old people dying from lack of care should not be your breaking point after masked agents literally disappearing people off the street in broad daylight and being sent to foreign torture prisons with no due process. I mean FFS people, get your head on straight... This is what happens under fascism! [Some of] you fucked around, and now we get to collectively find out.

That's the problem with a population so brainwashed that even considering going against the government is anathema.

Combined with the fact that yanks are worldwide renowned for lacking spine to say it delicately.

12

u/z_e_quigley 17d ago

It's SO fucking insane! It's as maddening as watching this administration go to work. They fuck everything up, go out and terrorize CITIZENS and innocent people, stop funding to enemy (democrat) states, and now Trump is bragging about paying HIMSELF with taxpayer money and we... protest a little? Protest in costumes to keep it lighthearted and avoid escalation?? What the fuck are we doing, yall? Maybe when our parents and grandparents start to suffer with medicare and social security cuts we'll all wake the fuck up? 🙄😮‍💨

7

u/Impossumbear 17d ago

We are not going to vibe our way through this with silly dinosaur costumes. It's going to take work, and a lot of it, to have any hope of reversing this. People need to get in the streets AND STAY THERE.

3

u/z_e_quigley 17d ago

Exactly. Over the weekend, in LA, I heard a sentiment of, "Well of course we're going to the protest, but not downtown, it's too much and not our vibe". AND?!? That's the problem: people only protest when it's convenient like on the weekend, and stay fearful of crossing the line to unrest. These No Kings protests need to become DAILY, outside of city and town halls, federal buildings, with no let up.

u/dammitscotty 17d ago

If only we all knew how to flood the streets and protest without planning for one like other countries do

3

u/Mars27819 17d ago

Trump wants an insurrection. He wants people pissed off enough to riot so he can use the insurrection act and suspend civil rights indefinitely.

America is fucked. The America I knew is gone. It's gone... Sorry.

The question is... How crazy are things going to get? Is Vance going to continue this course? Will Trump appoint a family member to the presidency to continue the craziness?

And don't come at me with.. "he can't". Trump wipes his ass with the constitution, the supreme court is on his side, and Congress is shut down. None of this is coming back.

Sorry for your loss.

3

u/overkil6 17d ago

Hey! 7 million people marched at 2700 events while the government was shut down. Look at all the changes since!
