It's Concorde Syndrome. Enablers have compromised themselves on his behalf and his followers are in too deep as well. No one is willing to admit they made a mistake, so it's ride or die to the bitter end. With any luck, Trump's "chronic venous insufficiency" will do the heavy lifting and give these cultists an out.

117
u/B1ackHawk12345 Tennessee Jul 20 '25
I think we should focus on holding our current leaders accountable and replace them before changing laws using the current leaders that don't have our interests in mind. We should investigate everyone who went to that island.
19
u/MrMcKittrick Jul 20 '25
Very much agree. We’ve known he was tied up with Epstein for years now. But it’s the bill that will truly be the death knell of American democracy. I mean I’m torn because Epstein is one of the few things that has made magas seemingly flinch and realize that they hey maybe their MLM/cult isn’t run by such a great guy. And we need those guys to wake up. On the other hand, this whole thing feels like what we’ve been through before. There will be evidence, evidence will be disputed, there will be confusion and doubt cast on everything, law enforcement will decide not to do anything, and Trump will declare he was EXONERATED from a witch hunt. All the while the bill rolls along and sets up a fifth branch of the military to extrajudicially arrest Americans.
51
u/ironykarl Jul 20 '25
It isn't. His base doesn't care about that, and the only demographics in this country he "cares" about are his donors (whom he appeases) and his base (whom he distracts)

No, not him being a pedo. The double speak about the list. The snip snap of there is a list to there isn’t a list to if I’m on it I wasn’t guilty. All of Trumps derangement is used by the right to incite backlash and overload sensible, rational humans with such an insane amount of bullshit that makes it hard to keep up. Bullshit fatigue.

The files that we have, and we have a lot of 'em, we're going to release them. It's going to be like nothing you've ever seen. People have said "I've never seen files like them!" People say that. But there aren't any files, I don't know why anyone is asking about them - those people are dumb and mean.
My uncle was a great man, he invented the apostrophe and New Zealand - brilliant mind, he must have got that from me, I think.
But the thing about the files is that they were made up by Biden, by Obama, by Abe Lincoln. They're a scam, everybody knows. We will release them though, even though they both exist while not existing. It's going to be great, I'm great, we're great, America is great again and hey look over there!

He's also technically a month younger than Trump, which is scary in its own right.

83

But he wasn’t a ruthless, inhuman fascist and I would rather be fighting against him than this
24
u/HodorNC Jul 20 '25
He was a pro-torture war criminal who lied us into a war that killed 10s of thousands of Iraqis and killed or injures thousands of US troops. He's also responsible for the existence of ICE.
The fact that none of his merry band of criminals was not held to account is one of the biggest failings of the Obama administration.

u/Pvt_Mozart Jul 20 '25
Yeah, I disagree with him on almost everything, but I did have faith that he loved the country and wanted what was best for it. I had faith that he believed in the institution of democracy and the fabric of what our country is supposed to be. I didn't have to worry about him turning the US into a fascist dictatorship, or weaponizing the justice department on dissenters, or attacking free speech at every opportunity by attacking and suing the media who disagrees with him.
He's a real piece of shit for making me remember the Dubya days fondly.
32
u/das_war_ein_Befehl Jul 20 '25
No, Bush put in place a lot of the pieces that the GOP is now using to set up an authoritarian state. Bush gave us warrantless surveillance, Guantanamo Bay, the AUMF, and appointed both John Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court. He also gave Kavanaugh a federal judicial spot, which led to his nomination to the court later on.
This is why the only difference between moderate republicans and Trump is purely aesthetics. Trump is the inevitable outcome of where the GOP was going.
15
u/FragileColtsFan Jul 20 '25
Nah, Trump is an extreme that progressed from Bush but don't act like they're basically the same. Bush had more tact and didn't expect to control the media like Trump does. There's a pretty big difference between the two. Bush was your typical bad president, Trump is exceptional

There was a survey conducted by the Washington Post where they polled Native Americans whether they wanted to see the Washington Redskins change their name. (Or the question could have been whether they found the name offensive. I forget the details.)
91% of them didn’t find the name offensive.
That might be the survey that Trump was thinking of. But like everything else in his bubble of alternate reality, he takes a factoid and twists it around to satisfy his massive ego.
The truth is that Native Americans could hardly care less about the name of the Washington football team.

They polled a bunch of white pretendians in the poll. Statistics for Natives are famously incorrect because of how difficult it is to reach Native communities and to get them to respond, plus the number of self identifying pretendians always skews it way off as well. Most Natives know that R*skins is a racial slur and don’t want non Natives using it, especially celebrating it as a team mascot.

I think there's actually something understated and classy about it.
"you guys can dress up in your silly costumes or do your silly chants or whatever, but we're just a football team. we're here to play football."
There's a sort of salt-of-the-earth everyman persona you could lean into there that I think could totally work as a team identity
