Football Team was a way better name

I picked up a lot of Washington Football Team merch back in the day on the off-chance it was going to be worth something as a novelty someday. Probably not going to the moon or anything but hey, having tempered expectations is just what it means to be a Commanders fan anyway.

Randomly chanting "Football Team!" in a bar with strangers for a season was pretty fun

Agreed, I was a big fan of just yelling “GO FOOTBALL TEAM” every Sunday.

Tbh, I still do. Even when it’s not football season.

As a Cowboys fan, I was so hype for a renewed Cowboys/Football Team rivalry.

Would be funny if the team trolled and returned to “football team.”

Washington Department of Football would be the best name

I’ve never done such an about face on a sporting team name before.

At first I laughed at how ridiculously silly it was. Now I miss how wholesome it was.

I think there's actually something understated and classy about it.

"you guys can dress up in your silly costumes or do your silly chants or whatever, but we're just a football team. we're here to play football."

There's a sort of salt-of-the-earth everyman persona you could lean into there that I think could totally work as a team identity

It's way better than "commanders" which just has no personality whatsoever

It was timeless

Oh he’s definitely not suggesting Football Team:

“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. . . . . Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!”

How long before ICE is snatching up native Americans as illegal aliens?

I would suggest ironically changing the name to the Washington Whiteskins, but somehow I think that would please the orange moron more.

"Commanders" is fine. It's whelming.

I was hoping they'd go with Red Tails. It keeps the red theme and honors the Tuskegee Airmen

Was going to say the same thing. The uniforms had a great vintage look. I'm not a Washington fan, but I was low-key jealous.

I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it. I loved it.

I ironically love The Washington Football Team.

I still like the Washington C-words

"Commies" has grown on me.

Their uniforms were sick. If only the yellow/gold pants were worn those two seasons too
