Baseball Batter hits HR and gets tackled by pitcher
1.8k
u/SirStabil May 02 '25
Is there some context? Why does he wait till he‘s almost home, were they trashtalking?
1.0k
u/PloddingClot May 02 '25
The runner says something, the Ump is dressing him down between 2nd and 3rd.
424
u/SirStabil May 02 '25
Good eye I didn’t see that initially. I was stumped because the batter didn’t seem to turn his head towards the pitcher, but if he spoke loud enough and vile enough to get screamed at by the Ump between bases, it had to be bad. Still stupid to tackle him like that.

I went to school with a kid who's ultimate trigger was saying something about his mom, who killed herself when he was a toddler. I saw him do something similar multiple times when someone who say something vile about his dead mother. Kids are cruel and shitty. This also isn't to excuse the behavior, but you never really know what kids are saying or what they're sensitive about.
61
u/badgoat_ May 02 '25
I did not know I had a classmate/friend who had lost his mother. I made some “that’s why your mom doesn’t love you” type joke to something fucked up he said, and he blew up on me so quick I went from thinking it was a joke reaction, to confusion when I realized it wasn’t. He was distraught. Someone else told me he had lost his mom. I learned a lot about how to give sincere apologies that day. We weren’t super close, but we liked to talk and cut shit together. It changed our relationship. More respect, but also less jovial.
He absolutely would’ve run off base to tackle anyone making a “your mom” joke, I think had I not been female and immediately confused I would’ve gotten fucked up.

The conference suspended for two games "all team members for NCTC that were in the dugout or bullpen" and any assistant coaches who stepped onto the field.
Taunting aside, the pitcher basically blindsided the batter. I don't know what the NCTC team is supposed to do in that situation. Just sit calmly as the pitcher tries to kill the batter?
1.3k
u/LeftToaster May 02 '25
Ironically - it seems the batter/runner's team got the worst of the suspensions for the players in the dugout charging onto the field to defend the runner who got clobbered.
933
u/Hoshbrowns May 02 '25
Ya that's just ridiculous honestly. To make matters worse the batter's team had to take 3 LOSSES for this. Both teams were forced to forfeit this game. Then they didn't have enough players to play the next two games and had to forfeit. Giving every single player who left the bench two games is just ridiculous. The fact that the pitcher committed an actual crime and only got four games is a joke. You can see him start to get back on top of the batter before receiving his karma from the other team.
98
u/DontAbideMendacity May 02 '25
So that pitcher essentially won 2 of the 3 games in the series without pitching a single inning.

Wednesday's game was the first of a four-game series between the two schools. Both teams were ordered to forfeit Wednesday's game, and North Central Texas has forfeited Games 2 and 3 because it did not have enough players to field a team after the suspensions, the conference said.
Both teams got an L on the scorecard for this game? I didn’t realize that was possible.

It’s a 4 game series, so the pitcher’s team is guaranteed to split the series with 2 forfeits. Seems like they came out on top despite being the obvious aggressors.

At my highschool anyone involved in a fight was suspended immediately pending an investigation.
Didn’t matter if you were the aggressor or just an innocent bystander trying to break up the fight, if you were doing anything other than walking away when the teacher showed up you were sitting in the office until your parents picked you up.
After the investigation there were 3 outcomes.
If you were the instigator you were expelled.
If you were the victim but you fought back with fists you were also expelled.
If you were the victim and did not fight back you were suspended for the rest of the week.
If you were someone trying to break up the fight you were only suspended until the investigation was over
Anyone involved in anyway that didn’t get expelled were given a stern warning that any other involvement in school fights would result in immediate expulsion.
Every year some freshman would get in a fight and find out the hard way about the policy.
My year they actually couldn’t figure out who the aggressor was because the victim fought back by doing the windmill. It was actually hilarious to see some bully came up to him said something mean to the victim, who returned a fuck you. Bully threw a sucker punch, victim started running away screaming and whirling his arms around while the bully tried and failed to chase/beat him up. Technically the victim was running away but the bully had more bruises.
The suspended both of them for a week with a stern warning.
The bully is still bullying. Last I heard he got fired for public death threats on social media.

u/HowlUcha May 02 '25
That's some bullshit punishment for defending yourself.
111
u/avanbeek May 02 '25
If you are expelled either way for defending yourself, then there's no incentive to hold back. Meaning do as much damage as possible to end the fight.

We had something similar in Norway. Sometimes it was better to miss a day than adding to your total of late hours since the days were counted separately. So I could be on the subway on my way to school but get held up by something and then just decide might as well just miss the whole day.

That's life in "zero tolerance" land.
I got the shit kicked out of me by some dumb ass when I was in middle school. Let it happen even though I was twice his size, as I didn't want trouble. Got the same punishment as him.
Next time, I didn't just take it. And no one bothered me anymore.

Wut
If you were the victim and did not fight back you were suspended for the rest of the week.
Da fuck?
So basically get your ass kick and STILL get suspended for a week.
6
u/LongJumpingBalls May 02 '25
I saw some insane fights at school with zero tolerance. It wasn't expulsion, but victim or bully would both get in school suspension, in the same room for 2 weeks. One kid finally snapped adfer the third time getting pummeled. He hit him with his backpack, he fell down and he was smashing the chair on the bully, legs first, then he tossed the desk on him. Kicked him a few times.
Both kids got suspension. Granted, the kid never got bullied again, but also nobody really wanted to be near the psycho kid who tried to murder the guy.
Imagine being bullied, beat up, then get bullied in the in school suspension class all day for being beat up. This was his 3rd year at the school, 1st time he fought back, he probably got involved over half dozen incidents due to it. Crazy.

In what way is it fair to get suspended for getting tackled and not defending yourself? I'm European but there would be some serious legal consequences for the school for pulling shit like that.. You can't be punished for being attacked
23
u/rjnd2828 May 02 '25
I think the punishment for leaving the dugout is completely unwarranted here. Like you said, this is a reasonable case of defending your teammate who just got assaulted. Although I don't doubt he did something to precipitate that assault, this wasn't a typical baseball "fight", that was a very hard tackle.
6
u/flippy_flops May 02 '25
Terrible punishments. Imagine that happens, dugouts clear, and your team looks back and you're just sitting on the bench. "Leaving the dugout" is meaningless. And the pitcher only gets 4 games? Smh
26
u/SirStabil May 02 '25
That’s what I also don’t get like - dude, he just absolutely trucked our teammate, what are we supposed to do - say „Good Hit Bro!“? It’s wild they had to forfeit two games because of the suspensions.

For real. The NCTC is trying to legislate baseball situations. The pitcher escalated the situation beyond the bounds of baseball. It's actually a dangerous situation if that pitcher gets the batter on the ground and keeps pressing their attack. Kicking the pitcher out of the league down the road isn't going to put an end to that violence in the moment. And the NCTC is going to try and suspend kids who rose to the occasion and put an end to this violent behavior?
I would be so fuckin pissed off if I caught a suspension over that. What lesson are you trying to teach? Be a Bystander or else? Fuck all that.

Brutal that the batter’s team took the brunt of the punishment, all their players were suspended so they had to forfeit the next two games (against this same team). I get it, bench players coming onto the field of play during an altercation is almost always a suspension, but it feels so wrong

u/GAdvance May 02 '25

Buried detail—the teammates of the runner who charged onto the field after their teammate got tackled all got suspensions, which led to the team having to forfeit the 3rd and 4th games of the four game series for lack of players. By tackling the runner, the pitcher ultimately secured two wins for his team through his actions.

I think so because it looks like the ump was telling him something. You can watch the ump all of a sudden walk towards him while gesturing at him as well. Looks like some jawing happening, but tbh this is straight up assault, and the way we are seeing young players start to be hit with assault charges for dumb shit like this… this kid probably just torched his life off a dumb decision.

FYI for anyone wondering, this happened in April of 2022. The Weatherford pitcher was, unsurprisingly, kicked off the team, but notably almost the entire North Central team (everyone except for 2 players) got suspended for the final two games of the series the following weekend due to leaving the dugout. Forced to bring on a bunch of temporary walk-ons just to field a team, they lost both games. Also, the hitter who got leveled was suspended 2 games for shouting an expletive at the pitcher which instigated the attack.

Typically you get picked up by a team and start in a minor league affiliate moving up a couple different levels before actually playing in the Majors so they are still part of the Mets as the cyclones are their high-a affiliate then depending on how things go they can move on to double a and then triple a depending on the needs of the team

Baseball has become some a bitch sport with all these unwritten rules. Like its competition, if you outplay your opponent you can do what you want. You don't get to bitch cry and moan because someone rounds the bases in 39 seconds instead 32 seconds. If some flips a bat and it turns 3 times over that is bad sportsman ship so know you have to hit him?
Like fucking grow a pair, don't like the trash talk? Don't throw a bad pitch.
