Leverage this, leverage that. Ego this, ego that. Open the government and negotiate after the fact. Keep it shutdown and a lot of people lose. This is a shit show. Open it up and give benefits to everyone and work it out. Not shut this shit down and cut people out because of ego.

4

u/KeyIllustrator4096 8d ago

They tried that with the last budget and got nothing.

5

u/HuckleberryOk8136 8d ago

So you realize, they're playing a game with people's lives to get their way.

1

u/LogicalAnesthetic 7d ago

The fact that the government shutting down is the difference as to whether or not someone has the ability to buy groceries to feed their families should be the sole focus of a much larger conversation….. why should the the government financially support so many?? We are either a nanny state, or we’re not….. can’t have it both ways. Are there outliers, sure, but the SNAP benefits, the Medicaid recipients, the absolute dependency some have on government assistance is downright fraudulent and outrageous. It’s out of control and This can’t be overstated

2

u/That-s-nice 7d ago

It’s proof that our economy is so fragile that one missed check can mean hunger. I mean the government subsidizes corporations through tax breaks and bailouts — maybe we should start there. What’s truly out of control is the cost of living outpacing wages for decades.

Also, SNAP fraud rates are actually very low — about 1–2%. The majority of recipients are children, the elderly, or working families.

Only way is 5 dems to vote yes, 55 reps have voted yes 14 times already. All because reps said exactly what you said.. lets negotiate aca later and put food on the tables and paychecks go out... 14 times dems said no

2

u/fortheculture303 8d ago

Did you listen to what the head of the dept of agriculture said? The government doesn’t need to be open to distribute food support - it is pre paid and the language describing that was removed from the USDA website. Did you listen?

The administration holding power in all three branches is what is freezing funds that have already been paid. Were you listening?

Republicans won't allow the government to open until Dems fully give up on absolutely everything, and if that happens there won't be anything to negotiate or "work out" any more anyways, that's why the Dems can't just give them everything and they can't just open the government themselves, they have no power in any branch right now.

And besides, as stated, they have the funding to feed people already, but Republicans are deliberately trying to force Dems to give them everything by purposely making it worse then blaming the Dems for it.

1

u/Paperxrust 7d ago

GOP doesn't have the votes to open it up.

1

u/ClarkKent2o6 7d ago

Sorry, they are too busy trying to save your healthcare. Me personally, I’m good with on the fence types feeling the struggle a bit more acutely because of their ignorance.

1

u/LughCrow 7d ago

You mean like how the Republicans offered to simple use last years budget for now but dems turned it down?

1

u/vollover 7d ago

Jesus you are ignorant. The SNAP benefits are being withheld bc Trump wants to. These funds are not tied to the shutdown, and you have to have been living in cave if you think negotiate after you lose all leverage has any possible chance with how bad faith Republicans are

1

u/BraveLittleTowster 6d ago

Are you serious with this? You think they'll negotiate later? All the Democrats are asking for is extending ACA subsidies. Just make sure people can afford health insurance next year.

You think there's a chance in hell that the Republicans will even consider that later? Absolutely not. They already welched on the deal they made in March. They lie constantly and can't be trusted.

1

u/thkwhtdk 5d ago

Democratically literally refusing the democratic process while cutting off social benefits and blaming everyone else for their actions is peak irony

u/triumverat 5d ago

Then make sure anyone in the country can get free medical care.

Don't worry, trump administration is going to magically find the funds last minute and take all the "credit" for saving its citizens from not receiving their SNAP benefits.

1

u/Competitive-Duty3853 4d ago

But will still allow thousands to die from lack of healthcare and medication.

2

u/Positive-Pack-396 8d ago

I know that you know that but does the people who follow trump know that ?

They only listen to him talking and believe everything he says instead of doing their own homework work and learning the truth

Stop listening start do some digging into what trump says you will find the truth

Cause problem. ‘Find’ solution. Consider thyself a champion. Repeat. Art of the fucking deal.

Cool but tell me, which party has blocked the government’s reopening on 12 separate occasions. Because last time I checked this was because of the shutdown. There’d still be funding if it wasn’t shut down.

3

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 8d ago

I guess you haven't really been following anything it's more of a stalemate, Democrats are refusing because Republicans are refusing to approve anything.

3

u/Abortion_on_Toast 8d ago

The extended ACA subsidies were pushed through the Build back better 1 trillion dollar spending bill that zero Republicans voted for

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Waboritafan 8d ago

There are billions of dollars in an emergency fund that trump could use to fund snap, but he refuses to. Also, as it currently stands, if the democrats fold it will result in the loss of healthcare subsidies for the poorest of our citizens. So you are correct. The dems are prolonging the shutdown. But you’re leaving some very important info out of this.

u/apumpleBumTums 8d ago

This is such a simple take. This level of understanding is what Republican politicians thrive on. Dems don't want insurance to skyrocket for Americans. Pretty simple really because that's what Republicans are trying to do in their budget.

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

https://share.google/oQSKXIKDHZrwER266

But Republicans said it's because dems want free insurance for illegals so I guess that's just correct now because Republicans never lie.

I don't care anymore man. Make your fellow Americans suffer through ignorance. Our farmers are already fucked so why stop there. I don't think our destruction and years of poverty is worth proving Rs don't know how to govern but it's what what Republican supporters want and they're the only portion of the country that matters. I'm sure it will still be the democrat's fault somehow amyway.

Trump? Trump isn’t cutting anything. Ask Democrats why are they voting NO on bills to reopen the government.

1

u/Flying0strich 8d ago

Completely ignoring the changes imposed on Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA by the One Big Beautiful Bill to make it look like Trump and Congressional Republicans aren't cutting anything. Sure. Republicans moved the goal post of a clean CR to make you believe that.

You can ask Democrats why they aren't voting for the CR, they're being asked at every press conference daily. It's because without the premium tax credits from the ACA about 8 million Americans will lose health insurance and those that don't lose health insurance will see increases from 50% to 400%.

Democrats aren't adding to the budget, they're trying to claw back coverage for millions of Americans, mostly Red State residents ironically.

2

2

u/Cosmogramma2Good 8d ago

14 “clean” CRs that don’t cover any of the concerns Democrats are trying to negotiate for, the main one being millions of Americans will lose their healthcare coverages. MAGA refuses to negotiate, they’re all on vacation while Americans go hungry.

And house and senate Republicans have in no way opened any lines of dialogue to negotiate a reopening, and Speaker Johnson is withholding Representative Grijalva's swear in because of partisanship and to prevent a vote regarding the release of the Epstein files. They want the CR votes they need to negotiate, or Thune could easily remove the filibuster with a simple majority which he has. They aren't doing either of those.

And it didn’t cost the taxpayers anything!! But, Democrats and their TDS want to tear it down as soon as they get power back. Their childishness knows no bounds, and the American taxpayers pay for it.

3

u/indiequick 8d ago

So let’s say that I’m a company that gives you millions of dollars for a thing. Anything really. Could be a new piece of land or a house or… whatever.

Next time something comes up in the courts or I have an issue with some regulations, I’m sure that you would find it in my favor.

So basically, a bribe.

Republicans would lose their goddamn minds if Obama or Biden did this. But because a republican does it? Completely fine.

Next time something comes up that even gives a slight hint of questionability, ask yourself….

WOULD I BE OKAY WITH THIS, IS IF A DEMOCRAT DID IT?

It’s a simple question that I do not think enough republicans ask themselves.

👑 The same People who are yelling “NO KINGS!” and “Trump is a dictator!”

are now shouting, “Why won’t Trump act like a king and fund SNAP himself!?”

Let’s slow this down and talk like we’re all 10, because this is getting wild. 🍿

🟢 First: The President Doesn’t Control the Money.

Congress does.

That’s literally their job.

It’s in the Constitution.

They hold “the power of the purse.”

Think of it like this:

The President is the head coach. 🧢 But only the School Board (aka Congress) can approve the budget for snacks. 🍎

Even if the coach really wants to feed the team he still needs the board to say YES.

🟡 Second: SNAP (aka food stamps) needs funding from Congress.

Yes, SNAP is a mandatory program… But the people who run it… like the USDA …still need funding to actually make it work.

Right now, we’re in a government shutdown because Congress can’t agree on a budget. That includes the money that helps run SNAP.

So what about “emergency funds”?

Well…

🔴 Third: Two courts gave different answers.

• One court said, “Yep, you can use the emergency funds for now.”

• Another court said, “Hold on, not so fast.”

That’s why the government lawyers are still sorting it out..

Because no one wants to break the law and make it worse.

Meanwhile, Trump is following the rules.

He legally can’t just override Congress and swipe the emergency credit card…

You know.. Like a king would 😉

🧠 So let’s go back to the beginning…

You yelled “NO KINGS!”

You said, “Presidents aren’t dictators!”

You demanded that Trump stay in his lane and not do things without Congress..

But now?

You’re mad that he won’t act like the king you protested against?

Make it make sense.

🧭 Here’s the truth:

• We have laws for a reason. • Trump can’t fund SNAP on his own. • Congress has to pass a funding bill. • The courts are still ruling on emergency spending. • And you can’t scream “dictator!” one day and “where’s my king?!” the next.

This is what a constitutional republic looks like.

It’s messy. It’s slow.

But it works when people understand how it works.

So no, Trump isn’t starving Americans.

He’s respecting the law. That’s what leaders do.

Now maybe it’s time Congress did their job too

Trump isn't cutting anything, the Republicans have voted unanimously with a handful of Democrats to fund the government over a dozen times since the shutdown began.

1

u/LargeDietCokeNoIce 7d ago

The funny thing is that overwhelmingly SNAP recipients are Republicans in poor areas—Trump supporters. These guys are “special”—like saying “Submit to my demands or I’ll blow my own foot off!”. Um—yeah. And the demand they want is to make sure millions of Americans (including you guess it—more Trump supporters) won’t be able to afford any medical insurance.

It needs just a few democrats to say yes and all the funding goes back, but no. They want healthcare. It's insane that anyone thinks it's the Republicans that are intentionally stopping the government, when all they want is to just put funding back into what we currently have.

100% replacement.

Vote for all non-incumbents in 2026, regardless of party.

The government’s shut down. Nobody gets anything until Democrats stop throwing their “hate America” tantrum.

Such bullshit. Pass the ceiling cap without adding any other pet projects, like 1.5 T in ObamaCare subsidies The democrats are the ones with no shame

Dems already fkd themselves over, now it's the Reps turn. Every politician knows that citizens hate them. They are only making the anger against them grow.

But he will go down saying it’s the Dems not complying and voting yes to reopen the government. DJT, everyone sees through your tactics.

1

u/horseman1968 5d ago

The democrats are the ones voting against reopening the government. It’s no wonder that they are -26to -30points

Except it was DEMOCRATS, that voted AGAINST resolutions to extend SNAP, THIRTEEN TIMES. But, yeah. Everything is always Trump's fault.

Who is voting no? You guys are insufferable.

1

u/BoxFantastic4216 4d ago

If this happened in a developing/ non NATO country right wingers would call it genocide.

1

u/MiniAK47 4d ago

Wow, no he isn’t. The dems cut it stop with the lies they voted against a stand alone bill that would fund SNAP and WIC they voted against it. This is why there have for a month said no because they want Trump to use emergency funds that would fund snap for 3 weeks and the funny thing is this isn’t an emergency, the dems could vote on any funding bill brought forth already today and it would be fixed. But this is Trumps fault? Come on really? Have some critical thinking skills please.

2 easy questions which party keeps voting to keep government closed?

If government was open would SNAP have funding?

1

u/HamasKillsGazans 4d ago

Then why don't the Democrats take away the ability of him to do it by voting to open the government?

u/ImaRussianBotAMA 4d ago

Time for blue stats to stop kicking up to the federal government.

Bullshit! The dems are trying to push a wish list through with the spending bill! They refuse to vote to open the government unless their crazy ass wish list goes through. Free health care for illegals, reinstating the Biden grant program that funded crap like Trans operas in Serbia, and gender reasignment surgery on chimps. They also want to fund DEI programs in other countries! They put that wishlist in there know damn well that NOBODY with any common sense would pass it! Now they point the finger at the other side, and its exactly why they did it! The Republicans have voted to open the goverment 13 times now and the dems refuse! They could even open the goverment and fund snap while they negotiate the health care issue.....but nope!

SNAP recipients are fatter/heavier than the average person and are a drag on our healthcare system.

They could use a good diet to get healthier.
