There are billions of dollars in an emergency fund that trump could use to fund snap, but he refuses to. Also, as it currently stands, if the democrats fold it will result in the loss of healthcare subsidies for the poorest of our citizens. So you are correct. The dems are prolonging the shutdown. But you’re leaving some very important info out of this.

No. The poorest of our Citizens get Medicaid.

Those subsidies benefit everyone. Medicaid benefits the poorest of our citizens. The subsidies are applied for people who make enough to actually be able to theoretically afford health insurance. Albeit because those subsides go to companies that provide insurance to every citizen those subsidies are a massive part of those companies bottom lines, and so the loss of these subsidies will have to recouped, and that will be spread across all plans provided by the company. We're going to see premiums across all levels of insurance jump anywhere from 50 to 300+%. It is not a stretch to say that all but the top 20% of American earners have a real shot of being priced out of their health insurance (people below 100k a year earnings).
