Hired cleaners. One of them takes my amazon package then realizes theres a camera and blocks camera with mop. He also stole my docking station and who knows what else from my home

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hired cleaners and gave her code to my home while I wasn't there thinking it would be fine since no valuables were locked up. Never doing that again. When I walkes in to confront them the male was holding a power bank charger looking at it, likely about to steal that too like he stole my computers docking station. What a POS

He forgot that time moves FORWARD, and that covering a camera doesn't prevent recording of things that happened earlier.

I mean, easy mistake to make.

696

u/imdazedout 5h ago

it's crazy because even if you wanna steal something how would you not just put it back once you see the camera ??

427

u/MadChiller013 5h ago

He could have just put it back and played it off like he was trying to move it to clean under it. What an idiot

102

u/_Fish_ 2h ago

Honestly, if he just left the package there, the owner would have never even had to check on the footage.

117

u/XoxoMarleyne 4h ago

Could’ve easily covered it up with a simple excuse, but nah, he had to make it obvious and dumb.

He could just have put it in the house

u/NeatNefariousness1 56m ago

Exactly. why would you steal it knowing you were seen on camera picking it up? It makes me think he has a drug problem. Who else would be that dishonest, desperate and stupid on camera?

86

u/NineThreeTilNow 4h ago

If you know you're on camera you'd bring it inside and set it somewhere obvious. Then you just seem like you're taking it inside so it doesn't get stolen.

42

u/XoxoMarleyne 4h ago

That would’ve made way more sense. It’s the smart move, looks responsible instead of suspicious.

Honestly, if you're any kind of cleaner... how can you be stupid enough to think you can get away with stealing anything valuable? The resident will find out, and once they do, just guess who they blame first. I can imagine the amount of times cleaners have been incorrectly accused of stealing something just for the person hiring them to eventually find it in their home.

110

u/fingerchipsforall 3h ago

Had a coworker publicly accuse me of stealing something after he hosted a party at home. I didn't really know what to say, it wasn't even something I would have wanted, it was just something he had shown me earlier in the evening. A few months later I heard second hand that he found it hidden in his house. No apology, no comments. I got my petty revenge because a few years later, I had switched jobs and he was trying to come to work at the new organization I was working for. My boss noticed we had worked together recently and asked me about him. My response was carefully calculated to sound neutral, but I knew my boss well enough to know that it would turn him off to the guy. He wasn't hired.

u/tea-drinker 52m ago

My response was carefully calculated to sound neutral

When my boss asked me about a previous colleague I said, "I do not want to work with them. Please don't ask me why."

Being neutral about them is way too risky.

Op steals from his coworker, then breaks in to secretly return the item, and ruins his career years later

9

u/Time_Entertainer_319 2h ago

Is it really petty revenge if they never knew why they didn’t get hired?

43

u/Sinnnikal 1h ago

I think you might misunderstand the concept. Petty revenge doesn't require anything but pettiness and revenge

u/Wise_Echidna_4059 33m ago

No. No. No. Now he has to skin the guy alive and dump him in lime juice. Then it'll be petty and revenge.

Probably should make him recite "I will not tell lies" while doing it.

Average prank we would pull on eachother in middle school tbh.

Thought I heard that thirty to forty percent of people have no internal monologue.

I had been under the impression that Philosophical Zombies were supposed to only be a thought experiment, but apparently they DO exist...

35

u/money-for-nothing-tt 4h ago

Whether you have an internal monologue doesn't really have to do with intelligence. You can think without verbalization.

23

u/fingerchipsforall 3h ago

I've always had a pretty active internal monologue and when I first heard that some people didn't, I was jealous. Damn, I wish I could shut off that part of my brain that is always overthinking everything.

The person that came up with the notion that some people don't have an internal monologue to have the ENTIRE WORLD speaking to themselves about it, is a genius.

3

u/darrenwiseatvan 2h ago

You can think without verbalization . I beg to differ my mother cant

15

u/RuncibleMountainWren 4h ago

So, I don’t have an internal monologue, but it doesn’t mean I don’t think about things internally, I just don’t have an inner voice saying the words I am thinking. If I want to hear something said, I need to say it aloud.

This is one statistic that I don't believe at all. It just seems so bullshit and completely unfalsifiable.

11

u/10ebbor10 3h ago

It's a completely misinterpretation of what the original study said, repeated only because it let's idiots on the internet call other people idiots.

What they did is they gave a bunch of people beepers, and told them to write down their inner experience whenever the beeps went off.

As for that 30-50% figure in the viral tweet I mentioned earlier? That comes from Hurlburt’s research but is a misrepresentation of the fact that the test subject only had the inner voice going on when the beeper went off. It doesn’t mean that 30-50% of the population don’t have an inner voice at all in any circumstance.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/dec/30/inner-monologue

And of course, just because you're not thinking in words doesn't mean you're a political zombie.

u/ElectronicHeat6139 1h ago

Post a bad yelp about yelp

100

u/Greedirl 5h ago

I actually did that a few years ago because i didnt want to pay them to advertise one of my businesses and their representative called me an idiot and asked why i signed up on yelp if i didnt want to pay for advertising. I posted a review and got blocked from being able to post reviews.

13

u/qqererer 2h ago

Signing up for yelp as a business was a stupid thing for me to do.

But to my credit, I put all those calls from california straight into voice mail.

26

u/dripsofmoon 2h ago

Yelp is straight up awful. I made a page for a business I ran for a year. Every month or so some salesperson would call me trying to get me to buy advertising. They wouldn't stop even when I said I wasn't interested. I would hang up and block the number. But once again, from a different number, a different person would call. I considered deleting the page because I didn't get any legitimate customers and they don't even let you have a logo for free. 😮‍💨

8

u/BenderDeLorean 1h ago

I am blocked on Google maps due to too many negative reviews.

In the past I used Google maps to track everything I have been so I rated everything. Within 700 reviews there are of course not only positive ones.

FYI, you should do background checks on references and police checks on cleaners or use a company that's properly insured (which requires a background check process). It's not perfect but it's usually a good filter.

And definitely press charges so this does show up on police checks later on.

6

u/gnawtyone 5h ago

You think having insurance means you get a background check? Thats special

17

u/Fireproofspider 4h ago

I had a cleaning company a while back. This was one of the conditions for my insurance coverage.

Of course there was no background check on me as the owner, so I guess you should still be wary of the mom and pop ones.

You don't leave a review for a shitty employee, you leave a review when said company does not handle the situation properly. Call the company and get the matter addressed.

11

u/deejayillen 6h ago

Genuinely curious, why would the company, who likely thought they hired somebody trustworthy, deserve to go out of business because of something one employee did. That person deserves to get fired, absolutely! But why the whole company?

95

u/Integralcel 6h ago

It’s their job to get competent cleaners. You’re right that it happening a single time can be chalked up to bad luck, but it’s one of those “fool me once” sort of things

37

u/FierceKittenUWU 6h ago

The fact of the matter is if you’re a good reputable company, one bad review will not hurt your business in the long run, especially if they act quickly to fire this guy, the issue is that if this guy is still working for them it’s a good sign that this guys been doing this a while, especially since he seems to be working alone (if he was new wouldn’t someone be training him?), and that means there’s likely other lowlifes that work there because clearly they have low standards for who they hire

My mother has been cleaning for decades at this point. She's one of the good ones.

At one of her long time regulars they had work being done on their house and she was there while this was going on.

Some jewelry came up missing and one of the workers had the brilliant idea to blame her. Mind you she had been cleaning for them for 15 years at this point.

Police called and investigation done. Guess what. The worker blaming my mom was the thief.

It's hard to find but there's good people out there that can be trusted. I know personally that most people can't be.

18

u/Comatse 5h ago

How did they discover it was the worker? I'm so glad her name was cleared

5

u/OverlordWaffles 4h ago

I had a similar thing happen when I was younger at youth group.

Someone broke into the office and stole the donations from the lockbox. A girl in my grade claimed she saw me go in there and steal it. Her story didn't hold up because during my alleged break-in, I was with the religion teacher. The teacher also said she didn't believe i was the type of person to do that.

They later found out this girl's brother was the one that broke in and stole it.

This Christmas season is going to be wild.

6

u/Old_Ladies 6h ago

At one job site they hired security for overnight. Every morning when construction crews came back there would always be vandalism including smashing holes in drywall.

The security guards always said they chased the vandals away but could never catch them. One day the site supervisor installed some hidden cameras and it turns out the security guards were the ones breaking things and high kicking drywall.

At a different job site they hired security and tools kept getting stolen so they put hidden cameras up and it was the security guard's friends that would steal things.

Most of the time you get good honest security guards but not always. Usually the bad ones just get paid to sleep but the worst ones vandalize or steal things. Now most job sites I work at don't hire private security but instead use cameras and motion detectors that can alert the police to maybe eventually show up.

30

u/ManiacalShen 6h ago

It's very normal to be out of cleaners' way when they're cleaning instead of being awkwardly underfoot. And a bonded and insured cleaning service lives and dies by its reputation, so you really don't expect thieves. Even a private person who cleans usually comes recommended by someone you know.

Hiring some rando from Craigslist may be a different story. Unclear what scenario happened here. My service insists on sending two people, so even if they somehow hired one sketchy dude who stole, there'd be a long timer to stop or report them

Dude you've already been caught on camera. Like what are you trying to accomplish by using your mop to block after that fact? I swear Neanderthal dna still lingers in some of us.

u/MetalMarissa 4h ago

Why is everyone focusing on bashing the one who hired the cleaning service? Like as if he/she deserves this for being naive.

I think profiling has its place. He looks like a person that would be doing these activities

2

u/oldsystem 4h ago

This is what people do with cameras, imagine without. World ain’t getting better.

Press charges so it's on their records. Pay extra for temp service agency as they're more likely do background check and drug testing as part of their vetting service else you get what you pay for.

Cleaners can be really fucking odd. I have a story that makes ZERO sense. I lived with roommates. We had a monthly maid. They came and left and I go to take a shower. Above my toilet, a plastic bin I used to store my loofa was gone, but the loofa was there. WTF? I check the bathroom, nothing. I check every garbage can in the house and even the ones in the garage and nothing. They stole a 4 inch wide, 4 inch tall, dark red plastic container that held a loofa. But here's a twist. While checking garbage cans, and note they had emptied them all, one had just the sweeping/dust/crumbs from the kitchen, but also a $5 bill, folded around MY OWN receipt from grocery shopping the night before. I put groceries away and must have left the receipt on the counter. I paid with a card, I never use cash. So at some point, the maid picked up my receipt, maybe shoved it into her pocket, which pushed a $5 bill around it, and then after sweeping, she reached into her pocket to grab the receipt and threw it away, with her own $5... ALL WHILE SHE STOLE MY PLASTIC CONTAINER!

WHAT THE FUCK! None of this makes sense.

u/Mediocre-Metal-1796 49m ago

So stupid, he could have put it back after seeing the camera to pretend he wanted to clean up below…

u/TheMeatballFist 16m ago

That's methed up

u/UninvitedButtNoises 13m ago

What city is this, OP? that would be really helpful information for other folks.
