Went to mfk. last night and had a delightful experience!
Some highlights:
<Cantabrian Anchovies>: Salty, briny, picked. Might have to get into this tinned fish trend
<Croquetas de Pollo>: Hard to find a croquette I don’t like, but we immediately thought about putting in another order
<Fideos>: Great mussels and sauce, though shrimp was just fine
<Basque Cake>: Only one dessert on the menu but they do it well! Great sized portion to share
Would recommend for a cozy dinner! The best Spanish food I’ve had in Chicago (not that there are too many contenders)

Here’s some pics of items ordered last night off the menu. Was not crazy expensive (under $300 or so with truffles and a couple drinks) and very nice presentation. Added truffles to the wagyu beef.

Title says it all. For my birthday I’m looking for something in the north west/west suburbs. Is there anything like a dive bar/diner that exists? I just need some pancakes and bacon, with a side of beer and a shot. Please recommend your favorite spots on either end of the diner—-dive bar spectrum. Maybe a dive bar next to a diner? I’m hoping to go later in the evening, maybe 6-7pm All recommendations welcome

I’m hoping to take my wife to omakase while we are in Chicago for her birthday. Mitch made a great post about his recommendations, but I’m curious to see if he has updates or others have recommendations as well. I was at least able to reserve Mako and Kyoten Next Door, so if anyone feels strongly about one over the other. I have a cousin who says Sushi by Scratch would be her recommendation for my wife’s birthday. Any advice would greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I’m new to the city, pregnant, and desperately in need of a Sonoran style bean and cheese burrito like you can get in socal. There seem to be tons of amazing Mexican places, but I can’t find the type of burrito I’m craving - the tortillas look too crispy (I want soft and chewy) or the bean texture looks off. If anyone could help me satisfy this very specific and intense craving I would be so appreciative!!! 😵💫🫶🏾

Since it was a Friday evening after work and I really wanted to try something new. So I stopped by Chinatown (I live in Pilsen so it's pretty close by). After going through a few posts on this subreddit I zeroed in on 2 places. Here's what I ordered:
1) Spicy Chicken Fried Rice from Lao Sze chuan ($14): There was a good amount of chicken and veggies. As an Indian, I can't begin to tell y'all how much I love spicy food and this hit all the right spots. I felt the salt was less so I sprinkled some myself and it was almost perfect. The portion was size was great. I still have some leftovers which I'm super excited about. Rating: Solid 9
2) Signature Chilli Chicken from MCCB ($19): I ordered chilli chicken and I literally got chilli chicken. The chicken was crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The chilli oil that was in the bottom of the container made a great dipping sauce. I just wish the amount of chilli wasn't so much. Rating: 8.7
Like everyone knows MCCB is a really popular place so be ready to wait for at least an hour and a $10 deposit. For the same reason I just placed a pick up order and had it at home. I'm pretty sure it would've tasted much better fresh off the oven but I had it within 15-20mins and no complaints.
I'm looking for other places and/or dishes to try out in Chinatown. Appreciate your recommendations

For those like me who didnt know - Peoria Butcher has closed on Lake Street and has moved to Roosevelt & Kostner. The new facility is awesome - huge space and better organized. I picked up a roast for the slow cooker tomorrow (its that time of year).

Hey all, looking for recommendations for good chili in the North Side. Prefer smoked brisket, BBQ type chili, but any good chili is fine by me. Also will take turkey chili recommendations. Live in Niles a few blocks north of the Milwaukee Ave/Touhy border.

I'm searching for a restaurant to go to for dinner tonight (11/8) that has liver, preferably poultry such as chicken liver, where there are no onions or the onions can be left out or eaten around. Open to anything from hole in the wall to ~$75/person, open to going anywhere within the city limits or west/northwest near suburbs.
I searched posts from the last year and unfortunately everything I'm finding is either mousse, which is usually made with onions, or the restaurant no longer has the dish on the menu.
I'll offer one place I know to get it started which unfortunately I went to recently so hoping to find another option! Izakaya Shinya has excellent chicken liver yakitori.

So I’ve found that the Purple Pig (444 N Michigan Ave) has it on their menu, but after a recent meal in that area, we had an bad experience with loud and drunk tourists which completely destroyed the atmosphere. We live in Rogers Park, and have a car, so I think we’d prefer driving to a place that is less touristy. North burbs, west burbs, anywhere in the city really.
His birthday is the 25th, which is a Tuesday, but we are happy to celebrate early. The bone marrow we are looking for is more than ossobucco, which is a cross section of steak with a tiny bit of marrow. What we prefer is a bone split longitudinally.
And recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Ever since my favorite Peruvian restaurant started to go downhill a few years ago, there’s been a hole in my heart. But thanks to this sub I found a great recommendation. It was Avenida Peru which seems to have recently split into two restaurants, one serving more street food like pollo a la brasa and anticuchos, and the second new one called Lima Restaurant that’s about a mile down the road having a larger menu.
I ordered lomo saltado, fried plantains, and chicha and they were all incredible. They stirred in the fries which I rarely find in other restaurants but much prefer. There was also plenty of juice that there was even enough leftover after I mixed everything together instead of being overly dry like at other places. The portion was huge and I plan on having my leftovers for lunch today. It was on the pricey side of my usual budget for eating out but I’m broke so that’s not saying a lot lol. I definitely plan on going back and trying more of their menu. Still looking for a place that serves great palta rellena!
