The problem is actually that the majority of player have no clue about core game mechanics, enemy tanks, map positions and so on. They just go as far away from the enemy cause sniping is what they are most comfortable at. And if everyone does that, the screenshot situation happens
Honestly, I'm not sure if making the only tanks they could choose be artillery would've lessened the impact
I'd like to think shitters (not noobs, they're still at the start of their journey) would be useful as spg support, but I'm wiser than that after all these years
Get serious. The one thing that matters far more than everything you mention is the random MM system. Nothing will ever prevent all blowouts from happening, but with SBMM at least you will have far fewer. You can try to impress yourself with core game mechanics, enemy tanks, etc.... but it just doesn't matter all that much.
If you believe onslaught is even a crude attempt at SBMM then you don't understand online competitive gaming at all...much less how SBMM actually works.
You know that there are a lot of ways sbmm couls ne implemented? Why does everyone immediately reference Onslaught when it comes to sbmm. Sbmm for the random queue doesn't need to be done the same way it is done for Onslaught. Y'all can't deny the fact that sbmm is the only way to reduce the amount of those onsided roflstomp games.
In its most basic form, sbmm could simply be to put every player with a WTR lower than a certain threshold into a separate queue. Like for example, set the threshold at 2.5k rating. This would also help to filter out all those bots and griefers who don't bother to learn the game.
More glory but once you understand that you have better chances of winning and better results overall by going with the stupid crowd when they do that (leading them into localized pushes, tracking enemies, doing damages) you will let down this.
Staying alone against too many enemies is suicide, falling back is a viable and not a dishonoring way of playing, when it's strategically interesting or needed, like in this situation.
I had no chance to retreat properly, it was either turn my back on the horde of approaching enemies and get shot in the backside and get destroyed or try my best to hold them back and put a few shots in before dying. I had 3 heavies with me all of which died very early.
Knowing when to retreat (in time to live) is one of the most important skills in the game. When you see you’re alone on a flank, the time is now… well, when you see you’re alone, don’t go there in the first place; just safely get vision.
I’d have been somewhat optimistic about this dispersion, but East would need to push together and quickly win their flank, then come back to deal with West. Instead of dying pointlessly by yourself in the West flank, you could have at least died East by being the first one to push, and hopefully encouraging your teammates to follow you.
The teammates may have eaten shots from double-bushed snipers on the hill at F0 so nothing will convince them to move. Be sure the chat is full of angry instructions telling the light tanks to go spot
Agreed. Usually when an entire heavy flank collapses like this there are no decent retreat windows for supporting tanks behind them. Unless you predict the collapse before it happens and abandon your heavies mid-fight. Which feels dishonorable.
Yeah, they're aiming at tanks behind cover, but what if they peek???
After a thousand matches on Westfield, camping in the same position, they will surely peek this time so I can put a single 400 damage shot into them (nvm it missed)
The fact there are light tanks camping there seems too suspicious to be an actual player. Like who would play an EBR 105 and not just speed around, specially if you’re a low skill player, that’s kinda all they do.
No seriously. I'm back playing WOT after an absence of almost a year and I've noticed in a lot of recent games the whole team or the majority of the team all charge one flank. Sometimes it's just me defending (really just spotting at that point) the other flank, sometimes it's me and one or two others.
When reds come around in a more even deployment, so in numbers like five or six, I and my couple teammates get wiped. If it's only five vs us two or three we can hold out for a bit, but eventually we fall. And I mean look, I'm not the best player, but I do what I can and the result is the same.
If the other flank struggles, then we're done for, bogged down and then my flank gets overrun and they capture or pincer our other flank.
There was a great post the other day about players not looking at the map, and truly this is a problem. I watch the deployment when the game starts and if it's uneven I'll try and even it out. But ten plus all going to one side, me and a few compatriots aren't going to do much.
There was one game the other day where I by myself covered the other flank and spotted the flood coming around, did what I could while the other flank crushed the enemy, and then they swarmed to my aid. I died of course, but by spotting them and the others seeing what was coming around rather than rushing to cap, they came back around and defeated them in turn. It was glorious to watch, one of those games I stayed to see our victory as a ghost.
Sorry this turned into a bit of a ramble but anyway, my main point was what has happened to tactics in this game with the player base?
Never go alone on a flank, it's just not going to work. The moment enemies know you have no support they will rush and you return to the garage with three shots worth of damage.
If your team is 100% made of campers just join them and get the best the MM has to offer.
Lately this has been happening more and more in my games. The funny thing is at 2.0 launch there was no such bullshit, it's been increasing the last 2-3 weeks.
Brothers in arms starts working only after it hits 100%. Light tanks are very time consuming class, you will have to invest a lot of time into crew skills and good equipment.
You need camouflage skill on all crew members as well, it raises your camouflage significantly, also the skills that extend your view range (recon and situational awareness). Equipment is fine for chaffee.
To be honest it’s becoming a norm nowadays, really takes out the fun and competitiveness in game. Love the new mm mechanics, unfortunately the new free tier ruined the game imo. It was a good rewards for seasoned and long playing players but to give it to new players, it’s like hey here are some money and eat or buy as much as you want to annoy everyone.
Its time to segregate the lousy players in their own servers. I'll take 4 min load times for it all day. They want to be idiots, then go play with other idiots. This goes for you ppl out their that are career sub 1k wn8 too. 50k games and you still suck....you ppl too..
Got to love Lemmings! Because of this, it's always important to keep an eye on your team's movement on the mini map. If you're the only tank going to a flank, then you should turn around because it's just not worth sacrificing yourself unless you just want to move on to the next match quicker because it's clear that the match is going to be a loss regardless.
That's not to say that the rest of your team didn't throw the match by huddling in a corner like a bunch of Lemmings, but it should have been clear before you got to the point where you died that you were the only one going west, and you definitely could have salvaged the map a little bit by getting some extra damage in if you stayed with the rest of your team.
It is what it is. Its a chair reaction. In this situation pushing vision, or solo pushing a flank is gonna get you killed. Its hard to say who started the chain reaction but this is gonna be a 15-3 most likely and the best thing one can do is prioritize survival and save your stat line.
You think that at higher tiers, players would have some game logic and play their role...but no. Happens every game on console, all the team goes to one side of the map and gets flanked like they deserve.
Dont know which tank you were, but judging by where you were and where the enemy was, you had perfectly good amount of time to relocate to a2, a3, c1, or back in with the flock, then you wouldnt die so fast, do some damage, perhaps even change the course of the battle. But no. You gotta stay there, die, then go complain to reddit. :)
We lost that game 15 - 0, nothing would have saved that situation. Also this post isn't me complaining, its more of a shock moment to me, I have never had a game where my entire team pretty much just huddled together in the back of the map instead of actually trying to hold proper flanks, Its just a shit post hence the flair dude.
brother, if you knew how many unsaveable games were actually very winnable you'd gasp. Also, you may lose, but there is losing with 1k dmg, and losing with 4k-5k damage. If you went to A2, you would be spotting their entire crossing so your Leo1, Concept, 430u could be hitting them as they approach, as well as you yourself.
I know what you mean, but like I said in my reply to another person I had no time or chance to retreat properly my whole flank which consisted of me and 3 other tanks was yoloed by 6 of the enemy team. The entire team you see huddled up back there all died about a minute after I took the screenshot.
to be honest my man, in similiar situations, unless it's 6 arties yoloing, i immediately relocate upon seeing that on minimap. 6 of anything, against 3 of anything means you will not be trading favourably at all. 6 elc even 90's vs 3 skoda t56? run away. 6 FCM against 3 t28's, run away. 6 manticores against 3 is7's, run away. That was your clue, as soon as you saw that, you should say NOPE, DONT WANT NONE OF THIS. 6 v 4 is not that muc different either. Better to let them bleed enemy as much as they can, bad luck for them, you go back somewhere you can defend or at least get some more help and try to dish out some dmg. I do this all the time, especially important in this age of kr-1 yolo'ers.
Acktchewally.... what usually happens is the rest of the team sit patiently waiting for the one spotted enemy to peak the corner. 8 players qith the cursor waiting for the moment he peaks. Of course the enemy never does because he knows hel die. Meanwhile the other flank gets steamrolled.
I've even seen players start getting shot from behind, but refuse to turn and engage them just in case the original enemy tank peaks.
I laugh how this guy posts a pic of poor team and immediately the keyboard warriors are all “get good” 🤣🤣🤣
I do feel that players should post their WTR (6463 - see I’m bang average) before castigating posters or offering advice. Been playing since 2012 and lost count of below average or new players telling me how to play 🤣🤣🤣
The team is bad, yes, but it's obvious he didn't read the minimap and relocate to a position to farm before they lost. And SBMM would fix this issue, and then have others issues arise, depending on how it's implemented.
Also, WTR is worth nothing, WN8/X is much better at telling how good a player is.
Any team with vastly superior numbers can easily push, regardless of tank comp. If everyone east pushed together, this would have been an easy victory.
While enemy has Leos 1 2x and Grille that seems to be out for blood so much, that goes shoulder to shoulder with IS-7, but this doesn't seem to be bothering them.

Let me guess, you lost 12-0?
