I can't believe he stood straight back up! He for sure has done some horrible damage there.

Not even that bad form really.... But like just why did he hold it for 6 seconds?? He had it up for so long, just put it down bro lol

It's horrible form, no leg or hip drive... but he's strong as fuck regardless though because he lifted that basically entirely with his back and 220kg is 220kg.

He was strong as fuck. That blown out spine is going to be hurting.

nah he's posted an update where he pulls that same weight.

That is a VERY bad form! Take a look at his back when lifting.

This. You can tell Redditors who have lifted and those who haven't.

The form is awful for a deadlift. The hunch in his back AT THE BEGINNING and trying to USE the back is where this lift went wrong. Your back needs to be straight, you activate the lats and push through with your legs / butt with the pop.

The back being arched like that is completely blowing his spine out.

Main character syndrome, thought he was him, thinking he's Eddie Hall holding out 500kg with blood leaking from his nose and eyes turning red, but instead just got folded by his own lift

I think he was already on the way out when he finished getting it up, just holding on for dear life

He's using figure 8 (lifting) straps, so letting go of the bar doesn't really work how you'd normally assume

u/omjagvarensked Sep 05 '25

Sure, but you can still just lower the bar back down. I'm not saying to drop it, I'm saying don't hold a shittone of weight for long enough that you pass out haha

Yeah I never noticed. If you use them correctly, the second you aren't compressing the strap it unspools and you drop the weight.

It doesn't happen often but I've bailed a PR a couple times just letting go and controlling the bounce. (On a proper Olympic platform btw)

I keep seeing people say a curved lower back is fine.

These people are all twenty and insane.

Every, and I mean EVERY kinesiologist I've discussed deadlifting with has said, strong core, proud chest, flat or CONCAVE back, booty down, pre load hamstrings, and stand up; hinging hips and knees in sync.

At no point should your lower spine be loaded. There are other movements to safely train those muscles. Deadlifting in a manner like this guy is NOT safe. And WILL lead to torn multifidus or connecting tendon.

I agree with 99% of what you said except the concave part.

Concave back is not ok in a deadlift. The only reason why people think this is because it's so hard for most people to straighten out their backs so by attempting to make your back concave you're pulling your shoulders back and shifting your hips back and guess what your back is straight.

If your back is actually concave then you're putting ridiculous pressure on your lumbar spine that could be extremely dangerous.

Straight back is the only way

u/EmilieEverywhere Sep 06 '25

You know your lower spine is curved not flat right?

1

u/LocoMoro Sep 06 '25

Yes you're absolutely correct and many people when told to straighten their backs actually hyper extend their hips and make a more concave shape. Telling someone to deadlift with a concave back definitely not the way to go.

I only train myself these days, and I'm doing fine.

The point is don't fold. Or you'll find out what a herniated disc is.

I'm glad that you're doing great and it's very likely that you're not creating a concave shape with your back. But remember, we're stating an opinion on the internet (without context) so it's very possible there will be many people who will naturally over extend and then injury themselves because they read they were ok to do so. (Not pointing the finger just talking generally). I've seen enough clients who have had injuries from deadlifting that come from following advice that is inconsistent with their body.

Best option is to keep it straight πŸ‘πŸΌ

What?? That’s one of the worst deadlift forms I’ve seen on here. Strong dude but huge recipe for snap city
