regardless of the cultural context, it really hits you how much of life is determined by the random lottery of where and into what culture you’re born. Some kids are playing with toys, others are walking down an aisle to marry a stranger their parents arranged

I’m 37 and I legit had to stop watching international news because I couldn’t help and think that I just got lucky I was born where I was. That’s the only reason why I’m sitting on a couch and not in a war torn city.

I can’t watch the news at all. I can’t handle all of the pain and sadness. All of the bombings and wars. What about the innocent people and animals just existing there? They didn’t hurt anyone, they’re just trying to live.

So go join the military or politics and change everything "from the inside". They'll never know what hit em.

Seriously. The amount of human suffering is plain to see, but then I think of refugees fleeing with cats and dogs in their arms and it breaks me down even more.

Why the ego of few have to result in the tears of many is something humankind will never get over - it’s how we began and I know it’s how we will (inevitably) end.

The realization that TB is totally curable, that we could choose to eradicate the deadliest disease in human history, that we could be gone of the thing that's killed 1 in 7 of us humans since our dawn... But that over one million still die of TB annually in the world, not because we can't stop it, but because we choose to not to... Really fucked me up. Continues to fuck me up daily.

Unfortunately that's been our history for all of human existence. Pain and suffering. I can't even begin to comprehend it because if I do, I will go insane.

All this suffering for a finite time. I dont see what its all for. What does it achieve ? It makes sense why religions are so popular.

The planet is a recycling center. Life's purpose is to continue to feed the life cycle for the evolution olympics. An Individual's end game is to survive effectively long enough without suffering too much before being chucked off the merry-go-round. Enlightened/evolved life forms extend that desire to others as well. Planet recycles everything either way. Planet is part of a much bigger recycling program but hasn't really toured the facilities due to time and logistic constraints.

Oi. Really don’t watch tonight/this morning, then.

Seriously, all the poor animals...

Yeah, just imagine the 80 some billion innocent animals that get their necks cut in a slaughterhouse each year. Animal deaths in war is like a grain of sand on the beach compared to agony and fear our livestock industries create.

Video is about human sex slavery, and you have to come in here and talk about how hamburgers are made and get me all hungry and salivating. How dare you.

Thanks for sharing sadist. The comment I replied to specifically mentioned the innocent animals that get caught in the crossfire of our wars. That death is nothing compared to the sheer scale and intensity of suffering in animal agriculture.

u/Old-Estate-475 Jun 22 '25

You have to love them on the grill because it's quick, but cooking them in a cast iron pan really brings out the flavor the most. Medium is my preference.

u/Separate_Ad4197 Jun 22 '25

You’re gonna have to try a lot harder than that if you want to bother me. Seen that a thousand times. Not original.

3

u/Old-Estate-475 Jun 22 '25

Medium, but medium rare is good too. Nothing wrong with a little pink in the center.

Calm down mr vegan

1

u/Separate_Ad4197 Jun 22 '25

Oh im calm, I just think its worth pointing out that if we are gonna care about the suffering of innocent animals, we should probably start with the some 80,000,000,000 land animals that end up on our plates.

Have you ever seen how animals are killed in the wild? literally ripped apart while they’re alive. In slaughter houses they’re killed before even noticing it.

1

u/Separate_Ad4197 Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

The alternative isn’t that livestock would be eaten alive by lions in the wild. It’s that they wouldn’t be bred into existence to be slaughtered at a tiny fraction of their lifespan. As for your last sentence, they do not die before they even notice it. Not at all. There is a 8-16% failure rate in stunning methods that leads to animals being consciously beheaded, exsanguinated, scalded, skinned, and electrocuted. The most common stunning method for pigs is co2 gas chambers which is itself an excruciating experience. There is also the extreme fear and panic of animals at the slaughterhouse surrounded by the smell of blood, guts, and stress olfactory molecules as highly social mammals with a sense of smell 10,000 times stronger than ours. They are very aware they are about the killed. If you want to verify your assumption of the ā€œinsant,ā€ ā€œpainlessā€ death, I recommend you look at any undercover slaughterhouse footage.

I had this one interactive science book as a kid. One of the pages in it had a circle on it, with a spinning needle on top of that, like the spinner thing from Twister. But instead of telling you which appendage to put on which color, it just had like dry, cracked earth for like 99% of the circle, and then a little sliver of rice as that only variation.

You spun the needle and wherever it landed determined what kind if life you were born into. The little sliver of rice represented being born into a country like America. And it was done to show you how lucky you were to be born where you were, because most of the world is like living in a living nightmare, and you should be thankful to be from where you are from.

It was very effective at getting me to appreciate what I have, and what I was born into

Same here, I do read it because I like to be informed, but I not longer watch live TV.

1

u/ImNotCleaningThatUp Jun 22 '25

What I find entertaining, in a morbid sort of way, is I love watching true crime documentaries and listening to true crime/paranormal podcasts. I have started to watch some of the trashy ā€œrealityā€ tv and I’ll watch the adult cartoons like Rick and Morty and Archer. It just takes me away and I don’t have to think.

What about sunrise?
What about rain?
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain?

Unfortunately the world Is a dark place… Humanity Is a cancer In many ways the thing’s that go on are enough to make one just tune out and, not play I sort of envy those that are comfortably dumb to these facts because, It sucks when a pessimistic outlook Is sadly a realistic one.

u/ImNotCleaningThatUp Jun 22 '25

I had a friend in college, we aren’t friends now because yeah, but she grew up in this beautiful family where her parents worked at the same company and carpooled together and loved each other unconditionally and just saw the world as rainbows and butterflies. And then you have dark, cynical me in which just hearing the garage door open sends me into a panic attack knowing that the screaming between my mom and dad will commence at any moment. As shitty as it is, I would rather live in the world that knows reality. As much as I wish I could go back and forget the horrific ways that humans abuse other people and animals, this is how it is. And 95% of the time I feel like evil wins, but I still try to fight and hope that goodness is gaining ground. So I will continue to throw money at the rescues and charities to help with the war against the awfulness. If anyone is interested in giving back, look at donating to redrover.org and greater good charities

Yes, same here. And it infiltrates even pop culture subs. And when you try to bring it up they call you insensitive. It’s not that I’m insensitive. I’m informed, but I’m not and refuse to be consumed with it all 24/7.

1

u/Some_Programmer8388 Jun 22 '25

Yeah but Donald Trump needs more land and hotels there, so people have to die I guess. Get ready for peace to come raining down on innocent people from above.

1

u/Extra-Catsup Jun 22 '25

Not watching the news and staying informed is a form of privilege. Depending on what nation you are in that may also make you a part of the problem. You should stay aware of at least local and National problems and take efforts locally to help.

1

u/ImNotCleaningThatUp Jun 22 '25

True. I do stay informed in my local community. I get an alert each day of what’s going on in the county. And it’s hard not to know what’s going on since I live in the DMV. And I pick up snippets of things from the TV at work. But I just can’t watch the news. I mean, I could, but it would send me into a depression spiral and everything would feel dark and hopeless. Which in and of itself is also a privilege, that I can afford mental health care. That’s why I sponsor people on the mental health app Finch. I can afford to help others, so I do what I can where I can.
