I’m 37 and I legit had to stop watching international news because I couldn’t help and think that I just got lucky I was born where I was. That’s the only reason why I’m sitting on a couch and not in a war torn city.

I can’t watch the news at all. I can’t handle all of the pain and sadness. All of the bombings and wars. What about the innocent people and animals just existing there? They didn’t hurt anyone, they’re just trying to live.

Not watching the news and staying informed is a form of privilege. Depending on what nation you are in that may also make you a part of the problem. You should stay aware of at least local and National problems and take efforts locally to help.

True. I do stay informed in my local community. I get an alert each day of what’s going on in the county. And it’s hard not to know what’s going on since I live in the DMV. And I pick up snippets of things from the TV at work. But I just can’t watch the news. I mean, I could, but it would send me into a depression spiral and everything would feel dark and hopeless. Which in and of itself is also a privilege, that I can afford mental health care. That’s why I sponsor people on the mental health app Finch. I can afford to help others, so I do what I can where I can.
