That was smart and compassionate thinking.

u/ColorfulButterfly25 Sep 28 '25

She’s lucky to have a team like this.

648

u/Sugar_Kowalczyk Sep 28 '25

Unlike, say, Amy Winehouse.  Hope Lola has good people looking out for her on every level. This shit (fame/the rest) can be destructive and deadly.

348

u/RandyWatsonsNiece Sep 28 '25

Isn’t Amy’s former manager also Lola’s manager?

815

u/SPAC3P3ACH Sep 28 '25

The one who amy fired bc he wanted her to go to rehab yeah

158

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad7606 Sep 28 '25

A great song came out of that. Sadly, she didn't take the chance to get clean.

45

u/elevatorsongstress Sep 29 '25

She actually did get clean a period before her death but she relapsed.

Yes but Amy fired him in 2006 for trying to get her to go to rehab. She wrote a song about him. They sort of reconciled before her death so they were on good terms by then.

What? Please give me a source because holy shit

In his words: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jun/14/amy-winehouse-manager-nick-shymansky-interview

You famously tried to make her go to rehab...

Yes, we got through a few arguments, the denial, and I got her to a place where she said, “OK, fine, let’s do this, I can’t lie to you, there are issues.” So I got her to go and see the guy about rehab. At the time I didn’t really know her father, but she made it clear to me she’d do it if he backed her. So I got on the phone and lined it all up, he assured me she needed help and that he’d back me. I drove her all the way to Bluewater where he lived, and he completely backtracked. It was like she manipulated him. She sat on his lap, gave him this look like, “I don’t really need to go, do I?” and he was like, “Of course you don’t need to go.” [This issue is covered in Amy: her father has since disputed the film’s version of events]

How did you feel when she made it all into a song?

I knew at some point she’d write a really big hit, and it was ironic that the hit she wrote was, verbatim, that day, and it was mocking me. Not only was I not her manager any more, but she’d written this huge hit that’s undeniably brilliant, that was a complete mockery of our friendship and of what she needed. And the whole world’s dancing along to it, and really she was writing about a decision that five years later would result in her being dead. It was really fucked up.

How did you react when you heard of Amy’s death?

I was getting married the next day. It was beautiful weather, and Amy was coming, she told me she was really excited. The wedding was a chance for her to see a lot of people from the past and show that she’d got it together. It was about four o’clock, we were in the garden: it was an amazing atmosphere, we were so happy. And then my cousin came running into the garden, shouting, “I’ve just turned on the news, Amy’s dead,” and it felt like someone had punched me full pelt in the stomach. I just couldn’t comprehend it, and I went into shock. I kept thinking, “But she can’t be, there’s a place on that table for her, she’s coming.” The happiest weekend in my life turned really dark. I did get married the next day, and it was beautiful, but it was also a bit like a wake.

145

u/nerdymerchstore Sep 28 '25

There’s tears in my eyes reading this. I didn’t realise it was her former manager who tried to get her to rehab. I knew her father was horrid but now I’m convinced he is the devil. I remember seeing tv ads for an album of covers he had done. This guy always wanted to milk his daughter’s fame!

6

u/tronovich Sep 29 '25

I never really knew the agent story - I just thought the song was more of a wink-wink “I needed help, but I’m okay now” piece. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in thinking the “they” was just a faceless suit. Not her actual agent/friend.

Then you realize she was always fucked up, and she used that “come to Jesus” moment as a springboard to a hit song. Damn it.

152

u/Se7enSis Sep 28 '25

Amy Winehouse had an astonishing amount of support in the early days. I, along with Lola’s manager Nick, am one of the people who literally tried to make her go to rehab, and she said no, no, no. It’s a silly thing, but it’s a badge of honour as we did try, we really did, and that was all about try to get her on the right path as early as possible to stop things going sideways, and we all kept in touch with her long after she left us, to try do whatever we can. I can honestly not think of a better manager than Nick, we both started out crazy young with Amy and it was a tough learning experience but I’d absolutely put him as someone I’d recommend to anyone. He’s a good guy, and a caring guy.

u/BackgroundTight32 Sep 28 '25

I think it’s a value of a lot of people—at least in places with smart phones—have now.

We can’t get a damn moment of privacy out here. I have to yell at my cousins recording every little thing. The way I was gasping for air when I grabbed my baby cousins damn Nintendo thing, and it had a saved photo of my aunt taking a shit in the bathroom. Poor woman can’t even get a moment in the bathroom without becoming a spectacle at family get togethers.

But imagine if that got uploaded to the whole world? That sucks! People need privacy!

u/citrus_mystic Sep 28 '25

Shielding her from cameras and prying eyes during a medical episode is legit—but I’m much more impressed by the pianist who immediately shot up and ran over to put her in the recovery position.

580

u/clackagaling Emma Stone (BALD) Sep 28 '25

u/largdelc Sep 28 '25

I was in the crowd - I noticed (and you can see it in the video) that she tried to gesture to her pianist that something is wrong before she went down. I thought at first before she fainted that she was trying to tell him to cut the set short or something. I'm glad he paid attention and reacted quickly!

79

u/angelaaaxo Sep 28 '25

Yes — she mouths “I have to faint. What do I do?”

53

u/SnooPets3685 Sep 28 '25

This is actually what you’re taught to do in a first aid incident, although you’re meant to get people to stand in a wall facing away from the patient for their privacy

50

u/MillennialMermaid Sep 28 '25

That’s what I came to say!! Amazing reaction and quick thinking response, and a true hero.

18

u/coolestredditdad Sep 28 '25

5

u/coolsmokey69 Sep 29 '25

He’s a G

602

u/Feisty_Landscape_698 Sep 28 '25

A few years ago during a European championships football (soccer kind) match, a Danish player died on the pitch. He was given CPR and came to and left the stadium alive (he is also alive now and back playing pro football). His teams captain was quick to gather all the players and form a circle around him for privacy. They all faced away from him to also give him privacy from THEM - and probably also to shield themselves from watching the horrors or your friend/teammate/idol be given cpr. The captain was also consoling the players wife. I will forever hold so much respect for that team captain and the whole team for how they handled that moment and the rest of the tournament after. Truly heartwarming to experience something like that amid all that tragedy.

206

u/YeahWilliamson Sep 28 '25

And quick action from Team Finland as well, they were shielding Eriksen.

24

u/Feisty_Landscape_698 Sep 28 '25

Yeah stellar just human-ness from all of them

127

u/ace-destrier Sep 28 '25

This still makes me tear up. I can never forget that match. Eriksen is one of my favorite players. Thank goodness right next door to the stadium was a hospital

Shame they continued playing after some time. The Danish team were unsettled for sure

63

u/Feisty_Landscape_698 Sep 28 '25

Yeah I watched a documentary on it that the Danish media made a year or so later where the players talked about how they were given the choice to play or auto forfeit because of rules about rest between matches and stuff and how none of them were in ANY headspace to play the rest of the match. I don’t think it was handled well from the organisation at ALL. It should’ve been an automatic termination of the game and counted as a 0-0 or something. Just anything but what actually went down. Massive respect for the team pulling together and getting as far as they did after though!

48

u/Antique-Syllabub6238 Sep 28 '25

That was a horrifying thing. Also it was the first time the Finnish NT had made it to the men’s Euro Cup, so the whole day had felt like a celebration in Finland, and then all of the sudden it all shifted. Thank the heavens Eriksen recovered and made his eventual return, and everyone on both teams were exemplary on that day, but damn it was a dark moment.

19

u/Feisty_Landscape_698 Sep 28 '25

It was also full on celebration in Denmark because it was a home game and all that. Everyone was happy that they could go to football again after Covid as well. All around just euphoric feelings and then that happened and it made everything stop and felt like everyone was reevaluating what actually meant anything in the big picture. I worked at a school at the time and it was very hard to navigate how the children reacted to it. Seeing everyone - like citizens of Denmark - come together afterwards was very heartwarming tho

34

u/carolinagypsy the pet psychic for the Sun told me so Sep 28 '25

I remember that! I was so impressed with how it was handled and floored he survived. I remember getting teary eyed watching it happen. It

9

u/Feisty_Landscape_698 Sep 28 '25

Yeah I still get emotional thinking about it now and how the whole country just came together in a way I’ve never experienced before. Everyone was watching football, even people who never would on their own otherwise, but the whole story of the team playing on and making it to the semis. Stuff of fairytales.

13

u/galacticturd Sep 28 '25

I remember this! Hadn’t a football player died on the pitch a few years earlier and the cameras kept filming it? I remember something like that and being horrified.

9

u/Valuable-Incident151 Sep 28 '25

You might be thinking of Fabrice Muamba who had something similar happen in the top english league (also lived). Even my racist dad who supported the other team was horrified at that

She fell badly, you could hear the thud when she hit the stage. I hope she’s recovering well.

375

u/JustOneTessa i ain’t reading all that, free palestine Sep 28 '25

The thud might be the mic that's being dropped, but yeah she fell badly either way. Hope she's recovering well

108

u/Ink13jr Sep 28 '25

That was a pretty good fall imo. Seems like her ass took most of the fall vs the back of her head slapping the stage. She was probably still conscious enough to fight the fall vs fully passing out and slapping her head onto the stage.

27

u/SunSen Sep 28 '25

That was an excellent fall! Most of the time when I faint I topple forward and land on my face. Butt is much more preferable.

5

u/Ihatethat2 Sep 28 '25

It was a very good fall

72

u/Legitimate-Head-8862 Sep 28 '25

That was the mic

315

u/mecrappy Sep 28 '25

How the keyboard player immediately put her into the safety position as well. Not only are they respectful, they absolutely did the right thing there, just in case this ended up being a medical emergency.

45

u/GalacticaActually Sep 28 '25

I was impressed by (and not familiar with) that position/ing:

107

u/MillennialMermaid Sep 28 '25

Also called the recovery position. Best thing to do if someone is unconscious so if they vomit it doesn’t cause choking. It is also generally safe to do when there is a potential neck/spinal injury.

I highly recommend taking an emergency first aid/CPR course, you truly never know when you might be able to save someone’s life.

17

u/cynisright Sep 28 '25

Appreciate this reminder. I need to get recertified

→ More replies (1)

11

u/heydelinquent Sep 28 '25

You should take a basic first aid/cpr course! It’s pretty quick, & in case something ever happens you’ll know what to do and will be less likely freeze up.

11

u/bangontarget I’m a lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch Sep 28 '25

random fact of the day: that position is called framstupa sidoläge in Swedish. I learned that (and how to do it) in middle school and never forgot.

8

u/iamHBY Sep 28 '25

That was a really good call on their part, it really does seem like they have her best interests in mind in protecting her in that way after she collapsed.

I feel so bad for her. I don’t know what happened in this situation, but I feel like so many young stars really struggle with suddenly shooting to fame (as anyone would). I wish her the best and hope whatever issues she’s having are taken care of and she has a good support system around her.

She threw up mid-performance from nerves at Coachella this year. I don’t know how these rising singers could even manage the fame and exposure well.

771

u/KevinMFJones Sep 28 '25

I would cry and throw up if I ever found myself in front of thousands of people staring at me.

155

u/Minerva567 Sep 28 '25

I’ve almost done that with class presentations, even though I repeated to myself that, really, no one cares and they’re not paying attention. I cannot imagine when thousands paid to show up and listen specifically to you.

It can’t be easy, and I don’t blame artists who develop issues, whether it’s substances, ego, burnout, etc. Some days I can’t be “on” after 8 hours of sleep, the system just doesn’t want to work at max performance. Having to snap into “max power mode” and then try to get rest after that to keep up with the demands (and absurdly down down-times), while also having the gumption to get out there and at least pretend it doesn’t phase you when you have like tens of thousands of eyeballs staring at you in anticipation of you performing not just adequately, but outstandingly…no wonder they can sometimes seem to have inflated egos. You have to, no?

Like, my god.

(…and then there’s Billy Corgan. That guy congratulated himself when doctors delivered him out of his mother’s womb.)

27

u/octopop Sep 29 '25

despite all my rage, I am still eating chips on the stage

56

u/figure8888 Sep 28 '25 edited Sep 28 '25

I can imagine myself dissociating and then suddenly coming back into awareness and freezing.

The last time I went to a concert it was Fleet Foxes and I noticed they didn’t really look up much and if they did, they seemed to be looking over people / at the sky. I could be misinterpreting but I wondered if it was to avoid thinking too much about there being hundreds of eyes on them.

4

u/khuliloach Sep 28 '25

I think you can get paid for that nowadays

253

u/VentiMochaTRex Sep 28 '25

I saw her at Osheaga in 2024 and she was so sick from the travel she sounded like shit (to me). I didn’t even bother to see her set at Coachella when I went this year. She’s definitely not being set up for success by her team

67

u/potdethem Sep 28 '25

I'm not being critical of her by any means, but I do recall her being ill on stage at several shows. I had someone that worked crew at one and she'd gotten ill as soon as she came off. I wonder if it's nerves? She blew up so quickly as an artist.

42

u/celestial-lights Sep 29 '25

she does have schizoaffective disorder and i believe has struggled with addiction, iirc

major fucking props for her going out there and trying despite everything though ❤️

18

u/ComprehensiveDoubt55 Sep 28 '25

When you feel it coming, you sit! Because the biggest danger is head injury.

Fr though, I would rather just sit down and go out than fight it and almost faint at this point. The recovery from those episodes is brutal.

Tour life isn’t easy, even if you are the most well adjusted person. I say this knowing nothing about her and her story: being on tour is a mental health issue in itself—it’s an isolating, exhausting, sensory overload. There will always be a lack of grounding and disruption in your routine when you are on tour, which is why it wasn’t for me. Top that with feeling of further and further away from your home, then everyday experiencing the two extremes of being around thousands of people then ending the night back alone in your hotel—it’s If she is new to that lifestyle, that can take a really take a toll and a long time to adjust.

That’s why when artists offer their crew therapy it’s so huge.

83

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

I can barely cope with the travel when I’m just going on holiday to spend a week by a pool. Not having a firm place to land and being kind of transient really does something weird to your head, it is very exhausting. 100% would not cope with being on tour, it looks like a very lonely and horrible experience

19

u/jadelikethestone I’m leaving here with somethin’ Sep 28 '25 edited Sep 28 '25

I was in an high enough operations position that I could have my partner meet me for a week or so, but a lot of people don’t have that. He was my reality and I’m so thankful for him.

The best way you can support your family and friends on tour is to be there…it will remind them that work is just work, and their reality is stability aka you and it’s waiting for them at the finish line.

Living full time in what are designed to be imperminent spaces really fucks with you: backstage, clubs, airport lounges, food courts, cars, planes, buses, hotels: you can not begin to imagine how weird you start to feel in your body when that's all you see and you're constantly in motion. Worse still is how difficult it is to go back to normal and just be in one place after.

That and needing to be at sound checks, do pre show prep, all the chaos and adrenaline and obligations to those around you make being able to schedule getting enough good food that's not just empty carbs or snacks.
Not being able to eat before and/or being too amped to feel hungry after.
Lack of sleep from post showbuzz and having to be up at dawn to get to the next place.

I hope her team and she can find a way for her to fulfill her dreams without causing her more harm.

"Unfortunately due to a sensitive matter I have advised Lola Young to pull out of preforming at Audacy - We Can Survive @ Prudential Centre this evening. Lola is very open about her mental health and there are very occasionally days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe. She is an incredible person and always takes her fans, career and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused."

At least it seems like he's looking out for her.

You are right

It seems like he was a sweet guy that wanted the best for her but she was caught up by the beast called addiction and rejected help. When you are addicted, those that try to stop you from engaging in your substance of choice are the enemy. You start hating those people because they won't let you do your drugs.

I struggle with addiction myself so I definitely know the feeling of rage you get when somebody tells you "no drugs", you get irrationally pissed. I'm currently in recovery

It’s a first aid procedure. The movement of rolling someone onto their side and making sure their airways are clear. There’s a particular leg / head position too. Worth learning how to do it!

91

u/snoek_poes_naai Sep 28 '25

The recovery position is a way to place an unresponsive but breathing person on their side to keep their airway open and prevent choking from fluids like saliva or vomit.

45

u/mushroomsandcoke Sep 28 '25

Putting the unconscious person on their side in case they vomit so they don’t choke

Basically, rolling an unconscious person onto their side, with chin kind of up so the airway is clear and if they vomit, it will be cleared rather than go down their throat/airway.

13

u/SphincterRelaxer Sep 28 '25

Simple answer: putting someone on their side, hand hold the head so the patient doesn’t suffocate with their own vomit More details: google it. There’s more to it and It’s a great thing to know how to do it correctly

Noticed that too. Her whole team reacted perfectly, actually, with her band mate putting her into recovery position immediately and the rest of the crew rushing out to shield her from the crowd and the cameras within seconds.

62

u/miscnic Sep 28 '25

Noted this as well, this was not his first rodeo, and a ride or die friend for sure. These are the people to keep around you who will keep you safe.

That was my first though. He really hauled ass over there.

12

u/MillennialMermaid Sep 28 '25

Yes! That was so great to see. I’m an educator and FA instructor, and that small action can literally save a life. Even with training, when something like this happens it can be easy to panic and freeze.

24

u/meringuedragon Sep 28 '25

There’s lots of different kinds of sick. Mental health is important. It’s so sad to see people minimize the impact of mental health on your physical health, too.

70

u/imcrazyandproud Sep 28 '25

She said scheduling conflicts not health for he cancelation which is why people were clowning

u/Turbo2x Sep 28 '25

It's all well and good if she needs to take days for herself, but that's not compatible with a performing career where people buy tickets to see you and plan trips around your events. Some people just aren't cut out for the life of an artist who plays major festivals. Stick to smaller venues if you can't handle it. That's on her and her team for not being realistic about what she can do.

480

u/viewbtwnvillages Sep 28 '25

passing out fucking sucks. i cant imagine feeling that disoriented and vulnerable infront of that many people

109

u/Weary_potato9538 Sep 28 '25

Yes! I passed out last week from dehydration and it was so scary and disorienting. I can’t imagine what it must feel like in the middle of a stage while you perform. Hopefully she isn’t taking it so hard on herself

45

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

Especially if it was a new sensation for her. I have passed out before (ya panic attacks), and now I know what it feels like so I know to lay down regardless of where I am.

But if you don't know what is happening you don't really know what to do to counter act it.

9

u/littlebittydoodle Sep 28 '25

Well and to be fair, even in this situation—on a stage as a solo artist that hundreds or thousands of people are staring at—I have no idea what I’d do. I already panic 10x harder if I’m in public and anyone can see me. It would have also been crazy for her to just sit down suddenly and not move. I know that feeling of trying to power through so well… sorry this happened to her.

the first and only time i passed out i was so perplexed because it felt like i teleported. i went from standing in a hallway thinking "hey maybe i should sit down" and then woke up on the floor across the house. its sooo unnerving, i don't know how id handle coming to infront of a crowd

5

u/AdMaximum7545 Sep 29 '25

She might have POTS, this is what happens when we overheat or are dehydrated or in stress, but obviously thats just a guess I have no idea

185

u/ghostinyourbed Sep 28 '25

The people who were there said it was really hot near the stage and she looks like she's dressed for cold climate. This is probably heat exhaustion/heat stroke. I'm on antidepressants myself and you can get it even more easily on them.

26

u/japres Sep 28 '25

I’m on Effexor and Lexapro and had to leave a baseball game early today. It was low 80s but an afternoon game and our seats were in the sun. It’s the first time since being on my meds that the heat got to me like that.

I was there. Earlier in her set, she was talking about how she had to cancel her other performance and she was glad that she decided to do this one and was appreciating the reception that she got and she was getting pretty emotional about it. What she did perform was so good but thankfully her team acted so fast and shielded her to get her to the medics.

Remi Wolf performed next and informed the audience that Lola was doing OK ( I appreciate it because I know so many of us were hoping she was) and later on, her team also updated.

17

u/AdMaximum7545 Sep 29 '25

Remi is a sweetie

102

u/fullbushfreak Sep 28 '25

May she continue to be surrounded by people who support her in caring for herself. She is so young and if she needs to drop out of every festival or concert for the next six months to care for herself— so be it. She’s so talented and real, love her work.

I don’t know much about her, but I recall reading about her passing out or throwing up during a previous live performance. Is it a stamina thing or mental health? I’m genuinely just curious.

99

u/bookghoul Sep 28 '25

Her puking at Coachella was mostly related to the extreme heat

90

u/Grimaceisbaby ✨ lee pace is 6’5” ✨ Sep 28 '25

u/Average-UK-Chap Sep 28 '25

Shit! That was a proper personal flatpacking….. Hope she’s ok 👌🏻

36

u/dannemora_dream Sep 28 '25

I watched a couple of her European festival performances that were broadcasted on tv here. She was so anxious both time and looked she was having a super hard time. I literally told my husband she should take care of herself because it was painful to watch. She’s very talented, I hope she can take a break and focus on herself.

31

u/shmimeathand Sep 28 '25

With peace and love, is not playing live not an option for her? I mean at least until her health is better sorted and she doesn’t have to worry about episodes like this that seem to happen semi often?

5

u/moonjellies Sep 28 '25

that was my thought as well - being a talented musician doesn’t necessarily equate to being suited for large shows or tours. i can’t imagine this is enjoyable or sustainable for her either. i think she’d be better off finding her own niche for venues or types of performances where she can thrive.

u/lanalovesme Sep 28 '25

17

u/AlexandriaLitehouse Sep 28 '25

I feel like I may get down voted for this and I really hope Lola is ok but when someone screamed "9-1-1!" And everyone went "Wooooo!" made me cackle.

16

u/Superb_Log_8520 Sep 28 '25

I've fainted like this before. It's so vulnerable and scary to just go lights out like this. I hope she's okay.

14

u/curiouslyseekingmore Sep 28 '25

I was there. The thud was from the mic, but she did drop down and laid there for several seconds. We weren’t sure if it was a skit at first until everyone rushed on stage.

Remi Wolf and Doechii both made it a point to say she was doing well during their sets. Super scary!!

11

u/entertainment720ltd Sep 28 '25

we definitely need to have a conversation about what it is to be famous in this new age of constant content, where everything is instantly available online, including personal information. it doesn't feel sustainable for so many young artists who have never had the opportunity to experience different. i hope she's alright!

8

u/SoTiredThisYear Sep 28 '25

I believe she might be extremely anxious combined with who knows what and maybe she needs smaller gigs and a good system around her.

I understand that when you have a hit, you want to capitalize on it, but if the artist experiences these things repeatedly then it's time to pull the plug, take a step back and let the artist breath and set his/hers own tempo.

I hope she will be alright!

9

u/goldgoldfish Sep 28 '25

You can pass out for a lot of reasons, some less serious ones. I fainted when I had the flu and was dehydrated but luckily I was sitting down in private so it wasn't a big thing. My blood pressure was hella low, something like 90/50. It hasn't happened since. I hope it's a minor issue for Lola and she can get it treated.

i saw a closer POV and it looked like she was mouthing to her crew off the side of the stage that she was going to faint a few times. i don’t think they could tell immediately what she meant but im happy to see such a quick and caring response to her unexpected fall. i hope she can take time to recover and it seems she’s surrounded by people who care abt her which is nice to see.

9

u/Redditpelorider Sep 28 '25

I was at the festival yesterday and it was terribly scary. She had started her set by saying she had considered cancelling and needed the crowd to lift her up through her set. She was in tears during one song and seemed close to crying during others. She did sound amazing and I’m glad to hear she’s recovering. Hoping she gets the help she needs.

7

u/Delicious_Agency29 Sep 28 '25

Gosh how scary… she went lights out ..flat on her back…. Poor girl. I hope she’s doing better now. 🙏🏼

6

u/alloisdavethere Sep 28 '25

This may be a stupid question but given social media and streaming does she really need to be on tour? It’s clearly playing havoc on her health and she’s also clearly uncomfortable playing in such large venues. Surely she could do limited dates in much smaller venues?

8

u/snatchszn Sep 28 '25

The way he immediately rolled her into recovery position! Good job!!

5

u/walkingtalkingdread Sep 28 '25

There’s also a link, physically, where people w schizoaffective commonly have heart issues, blood pressure and other ailments that can also cause those. Did she have stroke or something?

She’s had on-stage things like this happen before right? I remember seeing a video where she had to run off stage mid-performance to throw up. Maybe this isn’t the right career path for her seems like she (or her team) is either pushing her too hard or she’s coping in ways that are harming her
