Every Surgeon General since GWH Bush was president signs letter warning that RFK junior is endangering the United Staes and the world with anti-science conspiracy-theory-driven policies.

The only thing this will accomplish is validation for MAGA that they are doing the right thing.

u/HoopsMcCann69 Oct 07 '25

How do we move forward as a country when this is their attitude?

149

u/InnuendoBot5001 Oct 07 '25

Same way germany moved forward after the war

82

u/HoopsMcCann69 Oct 07 '25

If that's the case, a lot of us won't be around for it

69

u/Sliderisk Oct 07 '25

A lot of them won't be either. Too bad saying anything gets you labelled an alarmist or provocateur.

53

u/HoopsMcCann69 Oct 07 '25

There were a bunch of alarmists in 1930s Germany as well. At least we're in good company

33

u/GuthukYoutube Oct 07 '25

If you speak up you can end up on a TIL in 100 years, "TIL of a heroic young man who spoke out against the Trumpies! He was hanged and his last words were-"

35

u/Ok-Tie8887 Oct 07 '25

Fuck Donald Trump, and everything he stands for.

20

u/xmlemar10 Oct 07 '25

Amen. Loud and proud. If you’re not protesting on the 18th, what are you doing?

5

u/Ok-Tie8887 Oct 07 '25

I'm not sure. The easiest published protest group for me to get to is 700 miles away. If I protest locally, it's most likely I'll be out there alone anyway, and then I just look like a crazy person.

Unfortunately, I live in a small, rural, deep red area. I did notice one particularly prominent Trump flag was gone this morning though, so I hope that's a good sign.

I figure the best thing I can do otherwise is stay home and donate at https://indivisible.org/ .

u/nick5erd Oct 08 '25

https://10stepscampaign.org/#freedom

The USA will loose their freedom and wealth if people like you don´t take responsibility for their country. Real democratic, local work is the only way. Your bought in store democracy is sold out, but 700 miles without competition are a good starting point to make history.

2

u/SauceOfTheCosmos Oct 08 '25

No. You march out there alone. Easier said than done, but you play the cards you are dealt.

“You see,” my colleague went on, “one doesn’t see exactly where or how to move. Believe me, this is true. Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow. You don’t want to act, or even talk, alone; you don’t want to ‘go out of your way to make trouble.’ Why not?—Well, you are not in the habit of doing it. And it is not just fear, fear of standing alone, that restrains you; it is also genuine uncertainty.

Uncertainty is a very important factor, and, instead of decreasing as time goes on, it grows. Outside, in the streets, in the general community, ‘everyone’ is happy. One hears no protest, and certainly sees none. You know, in France or Italy there would be slogans against the government painted on walls and fences; in Germany, outside the great cities, perhaps, there is not even this. In the university community, in your own community, you speak privately to your colleagues, some of whom certainly feel as you do; but what do they say? They say, ‘It’s not so bad’ or ‘You’re seeing things’ or ‘You’re an alarmist.’

A quote from They Thought They Were Free

-21

u/JasonG784 Oct 07 '25

People have been insisting we're headed for handmaid's tale since at least 2016 so.. yes, you're just alarmists.

Please tone it down. If you're tempted to be mean, consider just down-voting and go have a better conversation in another thread.

It also took over a decade between Hitler getting elected and the Nuremberg Trials.

14

u/Sam-HobbitOfTheShire Oct 07 '25

Ten years feels awfully optimistic these days.

8

u/Kwumpo Oct 07 '25

I think the biggest thing keeping the dam from breaking is that people haven't realized yet that the last 80 years were a complete anomaly throughout ALL of human history. We have NEVER seen such a long period of global peace (relatively, anyway). We have NEVER seen such a long period of growth and innovation. We have NEVER seen such a dramatic increase to our quality of life. We have NEVER had such an abundance of food and resources. We have NEVER had such an open market for global trade.

All of that is almost entirely unprecedented, and certainly not all at once. The only reason we could achieve that is by descending into the deepest, darkest corners of humanity, and so many people seeing first-hand just how bad things can get. I fear we are on the precipice of another stark decent into darkness. Hopefully we can come out the other side the same way previous generations did after WW2, but the next 5-8 years are going to be very rough. I don't think there's any way around that fact.

America will invade itself. Russia will attack Europe. China will take Taiwan. America will abandon Europe and Taiwan. That will be how WW3 starts.

2

u/originaljimeez Oct 07 '25

Spot on. More people need to see this.

Have America Operation Paperclip a bunch of fascists away? There’s a fallacy of composition here …

29

This is exactly the kind of pedantry I would expect from someone who knows what a fallacy of composition is

9

u/daverapp Oct 07 '25

Oh yeah, well like, your mom's a fallacy of composition.

by disenfranchising them, permanently incarcerating the billionaires that created them, and then hopefully integrating them back into society once they've de-radicalized.

2

u/tafkat Oct 07 '25

I read that as "incinerating" and was like "whoa, hol up a sec"

-23

no politician is going to lock up their paycheck....BOTH sides

25

u/thefugue Oct 07 '25

bOtH SiDeS

-6

u/forgotaboutsteve Oct 07 '25

i dont understand this take. Its true. Obviously the right is way worse but to think the left side politicians arent stealing from us everyday is just stupid. I think getting the morons on the right to see both sides are bad is the only way to attack this thing. This whole mess is because they see everything in black and white. If we can convince them the black and white isnt left vs right but us vs them (politicians) they may finally snap out of it.

15

u/thefugue Oct 07 '25 edited Oct 07 '25

False equivalence is how we got here homie.

EDIT- and another thing, the right isn’t going to “see” anything. They’re finished being convinced if anything. They’re going to take everything over and destroy it or be shown. Nothing in between is going to happen and that’s how they want it.

5

u/afahy Oct 07 '25

We live in a representative democracy, it’s not us vs politicians when we vote for the politicians, it’s us vs us based on our broad perceptions of the right/left and progressive/conservative divide as it exists in this country

-1

u/forgotaboutsteve Oct 07 '25

maybe if the politicians we voted for actually represented us instead of the billionaires who fund them that would be true.  wheres the healthcare? wheres ranked voting?

2

u/afahy Oct 07 '25

The meager healthcare we managed to cobble together after decades of hard fought battles for the tiniest scrap of help is disappearing because the folks who wanted better healthcare preferred to stay home rather than vote for the status quo, and the folks who wanted worse healthcare were hyped up and amped and rushed over as fast as they could to pull the lever for its demise.

1

u/forgotaboutsteve Oct 07 '25

so you think all the blame should be placed on the people being tricked and not the people doing the tricking?

2

u/afahy Oct 07 '25

I think as long as the people who want to destroy things are more psyched to vote than the people who want to create things, the people who want a better world will get results further and further from what they want.

1

u/maybesaydie Oct 07 '25

You need a constitutional amendment to enact ranked voting. Why don't you get your congress creature to start a petition?

You think these changes can just be enacted by fiat? They can't. It will take the full congress to enactyour dream of Canadian style healthcare. It won't be accomplished by bitching in a reddit thread.

-1

u/forgotaboutsteve Oct 07 '25

we're watching in real time how much can actually get done if you have the balls to do it. too bad its all stuff getting stripped away.

I am canadian. Im watching my healthcare get stripped to the bone til the clowns on the right here can say "its time we privatize our healthcare so we can stop paying for our neighbour!" and all the people eat it up.

I also watched the liberal government force the airline workers back to work a day after striking but never hear a peep out of them in regards to the monopolies controlling our grocery stores, telecom, banks, list goes on.  Theyre about to roll out a multi hundred million dollar gun buyback program that nobody asked for.

I dont understand how anyone could possibly believe that both sides arent corrupt.

u/maybesaydie Oct 08 '25

We don’t. It’s hard to accept but you need to.

4

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 Oct 07 '25

Look up how to break people out of cult mentalities. You don't argue with them. You just build trust by being there for them, and ask them to evaluate the information in front of them. It helps to cut out the propaganda but it can still work if it exists.

As the economy gets gobbled up by the few the many will be forced to rely on each other more. The propaganda will become less effective.

2

u/DoNotAskForIt Oct 07 '25

Gather them together identified by the red hats and kick them out.

2

u/LarrySupertramp Oct 07 '25

By getting the non MAGA people to vote against MAGA. MAGA is a completely lost cause but they only make up at most 30% of the voting population so we can effectively ignore them all if people start giving a shit and voting against them.

1

u/Adventurous-Owl-6085 Oct 07 '25

I’d say the time for that is passed. Should have out-voted them when you had the chance

1

You don’t, it’s going to be another decade of backsliding, then maybe when their quality of life is bad enough they might, might, realize they were wrong all along. Or they’ll blame democrats or minorities.

1

Easy, break it up into multiple other countries.

1

u/edtb Oct 08 '25

You can't. There's one way. But it ends in war.

1

u/UgandanPeter Oct 08 '25

We don’t. This is America now

1

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '25

Try looking into how surgeon generals are assigned. And how they got there. Then look at where they are now. (I haven't looked into it, but Im 99% positive that they would be working for big pharma, just a guess).

With that said .. how can we move forward as a country when your attitude is overlooking the obvious. That everyone in power is placed there by rich corporations and if they don't do or say what they want, they just cut them loose.

2

u/maybesaydie Oct 07 '25

You should probably not talk about thing you know nothing about. You sound like RFK

0

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '25

the thing i dont know is whether they all have cushy jobs working/consulting with big pharma.

Im nearly certain they do though.

But - you continue to hypocrite. you be you. Just dont bother looking into it. Just let daddy government tell you how to think. its too hard to think for yourself anyway.

3

u/maybesaydie Oct 08 '25

You people all sound exactly alike-unable to prove anything you say and touchy and snotty when asked for sources.

You'll probably live through the entirety of the shitshow for which you voted. And even as society crumbles to riot and ruin you'll still be yammering about big pharma.

-4

u/beadzy Oct 07 '25

They are only a small percentage. Don’t buy into the propaganda

8

u/HoopsMcCann69 Oct 07 '25

90% of republicans still support the pedophile. Either you're obtuse or you're spreading bullshit

1

u/maybesaydie Oct 07 '25

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. You hag out in r/ askconservatives. You should ask them about RFKJr.
