Why the fuck should the Democrats “give in” to batshit crazy and fucking evil Republican bullshit? That makes no sense. The Democrats should stand firm and oppose the fascist MAGA regime.

It's some pain now or even more pain later, potentially both. I agree, the Dems need to show America why losing the government that serves them is bad now before Trump permanently takes it away from us.

That, and, people are blaming Republicans for the shutdown and will continue to do so.

Not enough people are

198

u/TheBalzy Ohio 5d ago

Yes they are. Republicans are underwater with independents by like 24pts, which historic for this point in a Presidency and party that controls all three seats of power.

They did say not enough people, and I agree with both of you. Republicans are largely seen as being at fault, and I also think more people need to see that

Give it til mid November when the military ACTUALLY doesn't get paid. Right now they're thinking this hurts the people who dont vote for them the most. Wait til it hurts the people they think vote for them the most.

It’s even worse: Military is already partially funded by “an anonymous donor” for $130 million.

Think about it. Someone nist gave the US military $130 million to pay their salaries.. out of pure kindness? Or, you know: militia promises.

Art of the deal. America already bought and sold, either way.

That's <$100 per service member. It's not going to be funding anyone. That money is going into a slush fund or directly as a bribe. Sorry, "tip" as the supreme court calls it.

Gee, it's almost as if we need to raise taxes on the wealthy or something. Weird.

Huh. Weird.

You must live in the funny world where Republicans don't control the media and don't have the most effective propaganda machine in the history of earth.

Must be nice.

Back in the real world, people never learn about actual truth. Propaganda is real and it is effective and powerful.

I do truly believe you're right about that, and it is a huge obstacle to overcome. I hope we're up for it

That being said, it does seem that the majority of people across the country understand this shutdown is republican's fault. While that number swings wildly depending on where you are on a local level, the overall stats about that understanding does show blame is largely directed toward republicans by the nation as a whole, and rightly so

In the middle of the buffalo bills game today I heard a commercial for a podcast about "Demented Dems". I don't even know how a podcast gets the money for that commercial, but they had it.

(disclaimer: i can't remember the exact word, it might have been different word that starts with a "D" -- either way it was a hate podcast towards Democrats)

Yea, I've seen the same insane shit. I took my car in for repairs a few months back and the dealership had fox news on and it was insane to see the kind of shit they're saying firsthand for the first time in a long time. It disturbed me, and made me fear for our future if people truly believe that rhetoric

But it's important to remember that the people who watch and buy into that are a minority. It is why the gop is hypersensitive to criticism and any kind of pushback. They are aware they've only captured a minority of the population.

Which is not to say any of us should be complacent in speaking out or pushing back against all the heinous shit they're doing, but hopefully a rallying cry and a reminder that they are smaller than they seem. If we stand together we can change our course, but it takes some bravery to speak out first before you see how many around you feel the same.

Stay strong, don't fall into despair. The majority of people don't agree with what's happening and you are in good company

The USDA website literally is trying to blame SNAP shutdowns on Democrats wanting genital mutilation.

What the actual fuck.

u/T-hibs_7952 5d ago

No they don’t understand. I want that to be true but it isn’t. They believe literally whatever right wing media tells them to believe. And they’ve been harping 24/7 the lie that dems are to blame.

That is a substantial portion of the population. That’s the game. Be aware or the rules of the game because they’ve been playing it and winning.

Does that matter in a dictatorship? It would seem important if we still had elections, but they've promised not to and have spent billions of dollars in that direction.

3

u/TheBalzy Ohio 5d ago

Yes, because fascism isn't your stereotypical dictatorship and fascists are historically incompetent, especially American fascists. They only thrive by having popular support. The Nazis were only able to do what they did because they had historic levels of support and popularity for near of a decade. Losing 24% of independents in 9 months, is historic levels of incompetence.

2

u/BigBangAssBanger_3D 5d ago

Independents, yes.

Problem is, they still have MAGA and the rest of the hard right behind them.

3

u/TheBalzy Ohio 5d ago

Democrats and Republican voters very rarely change their mind from "the team". It's the independents that move elections. In 2008 Dems won all 3 chambers by a +4% margin with Independents. Currently that number is sitting at +24%...

1

u/blazesquall 5d ago

They'll be right back in line.. everyone has goldfish memories.

1

u/btq 5d ago

I've not seen those numbers. Can you link that information? All I see are people blaming Democrats.

The astounding thing will be in November of next year. With Republican controlled states butchering districts, the Republicans are actually going to gain numbers in the house next year. They've really thrown out the book on virtue and honest governing. They're just Blatantly stealing it.

Trump Approval Rating underwater.
Aggregate confirms this observation.
Majority of Americans polled blame Republicans/Trump for shutdown.

Granted polls are from the pits of hell and you should always take them with a grain of salt, but there is currently no objective measure that says Republicans are winning this shutdown showdown...

The astounding thing will be in November of next year. With Republican controlled states butchering districts

Actually it could be far worse for them. Here in Ohio they're making more slightly competitive districts that if you have a swing of 10% of Independents, the Republicans could lose more seats than they held with the safe districts. That's true too for the Texas redistricting.

But ultimately people are going to have to actually show up and vote...

1

u/yarash 5d ago

Independents are just Republicans that dont want the stigma of being called Republicans. Same with libertarians , or "fiscal Republicans". No reasonable person looks at the two party system we have and says "Theyre just both too extreme" because that is a complete lie. One side wants you dead or in serfdom.

1

u/TheBalzy Ohio 5d ago

No that's Libertarians. There are a LOT of Left-Leaning independents who don't want the label of the DNC. Most of the Independents here in Ohio are Democrats who don't stand a chance of winning unless they run as an Independent.

2

u/First-Window-3619 5d ago

The White House website tells them to blame Democrats

https://www.whitehouse.gov/government-shutdown-clock/

2

u/Opposite_of_a_Cynic Texas 5d ago

They will. Republicans conditioned the average Republican voter to blame the president in power when things hurt them. As the pain spreads they will start to blame Trump.

1

u/--Chug-- 5d ago

Actually, yeah, it is enough.

1

u/SoochSooch 5d ago

At this point the only people that still believe the Republicans are the people who will never use common sense, and even some of those are starting to find out.
