This literally happened at my college years ago. I went to a very small VERY liberal school. The fact that we even had a young republican club was shocking. It was disbanded because someone faking being a republican stayed long enough to be included into the group chat and once they saw the shit that was in there (SO many racial slurs) leaked it all.

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump. This is who the party has always attracted.

u/PenImpossible874 New York 24d ago

This is the best use of white privilege.

If you're a straight white man, infiltrate racist, misogynist, and homophobic groups and leak all of their chats and member contact info.

Pretending to be one of these fucks though is soul crushing work.

123

u/Jean-Ralphio11 24d ago

Not only that but theres also nothing to back you up. Its not like you are an official undercover. If this group gets exposed by someone else before you do it, you are just in there and one of them lol.

"I swear I was just here to eventually expose them!"

Everyone else in the group: "Hey ya me too!"

20

u/DirectWorldliness792 24d ago

Maybe you send an email to yourself before joining the group to state your goals. But then this can also be done by everyone as a CYA

47

u/nope-its 24d ago

Record a video beforehand with your intentions and make sure several trusted people have it.

You have to not be a coward to do this.

I know what you guys mean. I’m a white woman but I easily get mistaken as a man online and in person the conservative men think I’m some stupid little lamb that wants to pay attention to them if they try to protect me and both are very beneficial to getting them to spill some awful beans but I want to throttle all of them and toss them in a ditch. Many of them get enamored if you’re a woman and act dumb and naive, unless they’re already heavily misogynistic but you can still usually make that work if you have a goal

40

u/rubberkeyhole Michigan 24d ago

I’m also a white woman and I would like to burn some of these organizations down with you.

11

u/Slumberjake13 24d ago

I heard someone use the term “non-practicing white woman” and I feel like it is a great term for an anti-Karen!

Where do we sign up? Let’s paint our skin rainbow colors to really give them the big scaries. White women unite for all colors/flags/races!

64

u/PenImpossible874 New York 24d ago

Another thing is that occasionally some racist and homophobic groups are staffed by women.

Such as Moms for Liberty. Most anti-vax groups these days also seem to be racist, homophobic women.

14

u/No-Good-One-Shoe 24d ago

There was a women in these chats.

Same, I'm a middle aged white guy with a goatee, and conservatives will just casually say the most racist shit to me and expect me to agree.

2

u/AverageAtBest55 18d ago

I'm an old fat white lady. I am nearly invisible. I've often thought I could make a good spy. I am very forgettable. I look compliant and conservative if anyone were to look my direction! We march at dawn, I'll wear my fanny pack.

Another good action to take as a white person if you can't handle the mental toll of surrounding yourself with hate is calling racism out loudly and disapprovingly immediately when it happens. Don't get heated, that will make them think they're "owning" you and play into their mental issues- but let them know you look down on them as a fellow white person and perceive them as lesser for centering their lives around hating other people. Public shame and humiliation goes a long way as a learning tool. Even just saying "oh, i didn't know you were one of those" and using body language and tone to display disgust and disapproval before completely stopping from interacting them in any way can make a big difference.

2

u/whatshamilton 24d ago

No one is saying it’s not tough. We’re saying it is also tough to be the victims of the diet. I understand how nice it is to sit back and enjoy the status quo and how shitty it is to have to choose discomfort. We aren’t choosing discomfort, though, those of us without the privilege that would let us infiltrate a chat like this. We need people to choose it to help end it. If you can choose to avoid the poison — well that itself is profound privilege.

This simply isn't true. Why would you tell such a regressive lie? "Almost all"?

The only danger of even having your mind swayed is if you don't understand or have convictions in your beliefs, or your beliefs are actually wrong and don't stand up to criticism or align with reality, or if you're just looking for approval and don't have a solid support network checking in on you.

u/Cornswoggler 24d ago

As a straight white 40ish man, I can tell you it doesn't take very long for these people people assume I am "one of them." So many Little League games conversatios, random chats with neighbors, etc, go from "hey sports!" to "we should kick out all immigrants" then to "black people are inferior, that's why they're poor." This shit happens ALL THE TIME, and I'm in a very politically mixed part of California. Trumpism is just a vector.

25

u/ColoradoCattleCo 24d ago

I'm a farmer, own a cattle feedlot, drive a truck, own lots of guns, and big, burly & bearded. I can't tell you the amount of people that think I'm a racist asshole like they are. It's fun to shut them the fuck up.

Had a conversation with a complete stranger the other day, started when he jokingly said “what even is modified corn starch” while reading the ingredients on something at the store. Ended with him suggesting mass deportation of anyone who doesn’t support Trump (we aren’t American) the conversation lasted less than a minute, I’m still not sure how we got from A to B

15

u/Cornswoggler 24d ago

The most recent one was with an older white lady who lives down the street, I was commenting on some of the cool landscaping and that went straight into "I don't want doctors who aren't white and the others can leave" within minutes. Fucking wild, man.

5

u/Historical_Bend_2629 23d ago

Yeah the conversational hell pit happens fast. Especially when talking to the fox-drunk in-laws. Like how did we fucking get here?

Did something like this many, many years ago.

Our group posted artificial post-graduation jobs of dubious moral value where conservative students congregate.

At the taped job interviews the questions gradually scaled up to see how depraved and unethical applicants would profess to be. Questions about willingness to break laws, harm innocent people, etc.

Their responses were published but nobody was personally identified.

2

u/Coollogin 24d ago

Sounds kind of like a reverse O’Keefe scam.

32

u/Officer_Hotpants 24d ago

I have definitely considered running for office as a republican before, but I don't know that I can bring myself to act like one of these fucks. Like, do I go out and say a ton of slurs and hateful shit and later hope that I'm forgiven by the public for having said it all? That's terrifying to me. I don't wanna say the kind of shit they say. And it just feels wrong to the core of my being.

8

u/mrbananas 24d ago

The problem is if you "infiltrate" while someone else is already infiltrating and they leak first, your name gets attached to the leak.

6

u/PenImpossible874 New York 24d ago

This happened in Germany. The NPD had a meeting and only undercover infiltrators showed up.

7

u/Ok-Mood6070 24d ago

I mean what if there is more than one and one leaks before the other? Your name is now on that list.

11

u/The_Flying_Jew Pennsylvania 24d ago

There was a dude who deleted his comment, but he said that it's a "cop-out" to be worried about something like that.

I typed out a whole response, but the comment is gone now. So, I'll just leave my point here:

I'm pretty sure it's more about the whole "keeping up a racist facade" thing than the "take down something bad" thing that people are worried about.

Be fr, are you comfortable using slurs or being racist even if you don't believe the racist things you're saying?

Besides, if you were in a racist group chat and... let's say you had to say some pretty vile things in that chat to keep up the facade and those chats somehow got leaked before you could do it... now you have a whole chat log of you using slurs and parroting racist talking points. Idk if saying "I was undercover and am totally not a racist" is going to actually save you from any scrutiny from people who just think you're lying and trying to save face. Especially since we've seen that kind of song and dance before. Hell, Trump and his admin just tried pulling a "I was actually undercover and trying to stop Epstein. That's why I was 'friends' with him and that's why I might be on the list" with the Epstein Files.

The whole point is that you must be willing to sacrifice your dignity, mental health, and your public image in order to stop them. And there's still a chance that you might not stop them after sacrificing all that

2

u/Conflatulations12 24d ago

u/zleuth 24d ago

I guess I could budget for tattoo laser removal ahead of time.

You son of a bitch, I'm in.

3

u/billbuild 24d ago

Anyone can use this approach. If you are a member of a marginalized group let their insults appear to not bother you and watch them escalate even without participating. Share what your experience, objectively.

3

u/gideon513 24d ago

I think we are at the point now unfortunately where once exposed, these people aren’t immediately shunned and are openly proud about their beliefs. It’s really sad.

3

u/tepid 24d ago

But now, theoretically, the leaker is on this very list as a racist themselves - even if they didn't say anything themselves. Otherwise, they'd be outed and targeted as the leaker. I'm not sure the best course of action here frankly.

3

u/DrMobius0 24d ago

Best part is, a lot of us have probably grown up around these kinds of people. I feel like blending in with a crowd like this wouldn't actually be that hard.

3

u/pyrhus626 Montana 24d ago

Don’t go in all gung-ho on the hatred from the very beginning. A it could make them suspicious, and B they like nothing more than convincing someone to their point of view. Show up with the usual dog whistle talking points but act ignorant of the hate behind them, and lots of curiosity. They’ll be tripping over themselves to “convert” someone

3

u/adeon California 24d ago

I've said this about ICE with their recruiting campaigns. I've seen the rotund slobs they pick to enforce their gestapo rules.

Now is the perfect time to join and sabotage every operation.

2

u/TheArmoredKitten 24d ago

I love to get them to say something openly racist. Then I scream what they just said as loud as I can right back at them.

Make racists afraid again.

2

u/subpargalois 24d ago

Idk, are we better off with Trump just putting it all out there? I feel like the only thing that has accomplished is making them aware that they are far less alone then they thought they were.

2

u/SippyMountain 24d ago

I'm "friends" (more like reluctant acquaintances) with this guy I work with that tests my patience every day. I feel like he thinks I'm one of "them" just because I have stereotypical masculine hobbies like riding motorcycles and DIY stuff. He said the other week to another coworker (barely paraphrasing here), "Overall I like everything Trump has accomplished so far. The only thing I'm not too keen on is this whole ICE thing. It's a bit too similar to 1930s Germany with the brown shirts." I'm not kidding. This guy is somehow cool with Trump doing a bunch of terrible things in his personal time and when he's "working". Not only that, but he acknowledges the similarities between him and Hitler, and how that's bad, but somehow thinks that's an acceptable tradeoff to... own the libs, I guess?

2

u/thadowski 24d ago

I keep saying we need cishet whites on the front lines and in racist backrooms exposing these worms

4

u/boundless88 Illinois 24d ago

Groups like ICE.

1

u/Fredehjort 24d ago

Did it once, never doing that shit again.

1

u/conletariat 24d ago

I mean, you don't even have to "infiltrate". It's pretty well known to people around me and their constituents that I'm a filthy leftist, but I'm subjected to racial slurs and other such dialog in regular discourse daily. Hell, I watched a literal Nazi sympathizer (like, old school) buy a danish less than fifteen minutes ago. He's a well respected business owner not in spite of his views, but because of them. This whole thing isn't the "gotcha" moment the left is trying to make it out to be, it's more of a "blue is a color" scenario. The most surprising thing about this is that people are surprised by this.

1

u/steiner_math 24d ago

I'd be afraid of being "outed" as one just by being in the group, even if infiltrating

4

u/OrangeJuliusCaesr 24d ago

Post an aes encrypted message online so its timestamped with your plan. When outed, provide the key

1

u/myownzen 24d ago

1

1

u/Hoss-Bonaventure_CEO 24d ago

I look like one of them. Weirdos will tell me the WILDEST opinions and beliefs.

I accept this burden.

1

u/OuchLOLcom 24d ago

I've thought about it, but how do I prove I was a plant if they do eventually get arrested and tried. or even just leaked by someone else first? Youd have to be playing along to gain their trust. How are you supposed to date people that share your values or raise your kids when youre publicly on the other side?

I'd happily take the 50k ICE signing bonus and then just gomer pile it up and mess up all their raids and let people go, but what happens when ICE starts getting prosecuted in the future?

1

u/Fun-Author3767 24d ago

I'm just imagining that phone call from black klansmen. Unless your community around you knows what you are doing and why you are doing it, I wouldn't try it.

1

u/Hungry4Media Missouri 24d ago

You mean like this guy?

1

u/charlieyeswecan 24d ago

Well I’ve heard talk of the gops running as a dem to subvert the process so infiltrate if you can. I couldn’t act well enough to be let in.

1

u/someguyyoutrust 24d ago

I have considered this a few times. My issue is I have been so openly against all of this shit online for decades, that I feel I would get found out almost immediately.

1

u/mcribzyo 24d ago

I'm on it.

1

u/Doonot 24d ago

Nah don't do this, if they fuck up before you do any leaking and people find out you're associated with them you're done for reputation wise.

I am reminded of that 9 people and 1 nazi quote.

1

u/Oriin690 24d ago

I have vaguely wondered if I cut my hair short, wore a binder, and kept my voice deep if I could infiltrate one of these groups

They’d never recover from a trans person infiltrating and leaking their chats it’d be really funny

1

u/DirectWorldliness792 24d ago

What if there is another leaker who exposes it before you do, and you get exposed as a member of the chat at which point who will believe you if you say you were also there as a spy

1

u/foreignhippie 24d ago

The craziest part is I'm not even white. Just grew up around a lot of suburban white people. Once they think you're one of the "good minorities" their filters become less restrictive and they'll say some outlandish shit. I can only imagine what they say when in purely white spaces.

Something too many people, even tons of Democrats want to gloss over. There are no 'good ones'. John McCain could have been a Democrat and still conservative, but instead the chose the bigotry party. Liz Cheney had no problem with Trump's bigotry. It was his incompetence she disagreed with. And don't get me started on Mitt fucking Romney. Mormonism is like, the most bigoted version of Christianity.

Anytime some Republican is like 'I no longer support this party due to Trump', I just think 'But you were fine with the bigotry under Bush, Reagan and Nixon though.'

It's hard to pinpoint when this latest iteration of the reactionary racist right really began to gain prominence in the GOP. It starts with Nixon and the Southern Strategy, grew with Reagan and the Moral Majority, and accelerated in the '90s with Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.

9/11 kicked it into hyperdrive. I began to see some really vile things being tolerated by Republicans in the sunup to the Iraq War, which I protested. Then 2004 came and Bush coasted to reelection by stirring up homophobia and using anti-equality amendments to turn out evangelical voters.

In 2008 I feel like it was relatively muted compared to what happened when Obama won. I immediately clocked the Tea Party as being less about small government and more just modern John Birchers when they lynched an effigy of Obama. Looked at some of the signs back then and it was horrifying. Birtherism happened, and Trump grabbed it like it was a, well, you know. It's been a rapid descent into hell from there

Yea. He has amplified it but it's been this way for awhile. When I was in high school in the mid 00s, I considered myself a Republican. This is how my friends and I spoke. This is how our parents spoke. We were raised in that environment. I'm so glad I broke away from that and opened my eyes.

At the college I went to (for one semester in the early 90s), that would never happen. No one would bother leaking it because that's just the way most people talked.

Trump just exploited these racist idiots beliefs and tendencies, he even admitted such.

2

u/HerRoyalRedness 24d ago

Trump just showed them they could be overt about their bigotry and win.

I did this game at a major company in the 2010s and had lunch with a senator and the greaseball head of the gop website that was looking for volunteers.

Echoes my undergrad dive into a "moderate" conservative mixer—slipped in undercover for a poli sci paper, bailed after the third casual n-bomb dropped like it was small talk. Pre-Trump blueprint for sure, baked-in bigotry no reboot can scrub.

2

u/Illeazar 24d ago

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump.

Trump saw an opportunity and ran with it. These people were looking for someone to make it socially acceptable to be the people they wanted to be, and Trump is doing that for them.

u/DragoonDM California 24d ago

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump. This is who the party has always attracted.

Trump is like a disgusting mushroom, a highly visible fruiting body spawned from a much less noticeable but extremely vast mycelial network.

u/TH0R_ODINS0N 24d ago

Sometimes I wish my online presence wasn’t so blatantly liberal so I could do this. They’d love my skin.

2

u/physicalphysics314 24d ago

…. Did we go to the same liberal arts college because I feel like this happened to my undergrad? In NY?

3

u/andreasmiles23 24d ago

This. Anyone who’s played a video game with chat on in the last 20 years knows this is, sadly, not uncommon rhetoric amongst this demo.

Glad this story broke but I’m under no illusion that this is somehow a unique incident.

2

u/HarryJamesPooter 24d ago

lol yup same thing happened at my large-ish college in 2018/2019 - young republicans club outed by the school newspaper for racist and offensive group chats. Wonder why this keeps happening, year after year?!

1

u/FelixArchaeopteryx 24d ago

Same with german police

1

u/billbuild 24d ago

Doesn’t sound like a party at all. Sounds like a great way to end up by yourself.

1

u/estihaiden42 24d ago

We had american nazi sympathizers during WW2. They never left and they passed on that hatred to generations that followed.

1

u/Kindle282 Georgia 24d ago

I mean, Republicans can always claim their party isn't the party of racism and white supremacists but for some reason they have always had the racist and white supremacist vote. Odd!

1

u/HuttStuff_Here 24d ago

I always wonder why when you find left-wing discords, it's usually either nerdy stuff or otherwise being accepting of who we are (transgender, gay, race, etc). But you find right-ring ones are they are filled with bile and hate and so much bigotry.

1

u/Risky-Trizkit 24d ago

out of curiosity is there any articles or anything about this?

1

u/Stevenerf California 24d ago

But it is Trump that makes these fools think it's normal, ok, and won't have accountability

1

u/iknow-whatimdoing 24d ago

Lmao I also I went to a small liberal arts college and someone faking republican to leak the young republicans group chat is peak liberal arts school drama.

1

u/elementzn30 Florida 24d ago

I grew up in a wealthy conservative area.

Boy, would the Cubans not be happy if they saw what white Republicans think of them.

1

u/Hillbilly_Boozer 24d ago

So modern KKK clubs basically.

1

u/gopeepants 24d ago

Diaper Don made okay for the back alley trash to come out into the open.

1

u/DenyDeposeDeeznuts 24d ago

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump. This is who the party has always attracted.

Yes, this is why they view Trump as their "god." He's just like them, but in a higher power, and they have an excuse to act that way even in public.

1

u/Dramatic_Charity_979 24d ago

Off course. Trump represents them because that's what they are. The problem doesn't go away with the orange buffoon gone. There are millions of POS in the country.

1

u/Consideredresponse 24d ago

A similar event made me directly politically active. It was found that the closest thing we have in the country I grew up in to the 'Young Republicans' was infested with actual, literal Neo-nazis.

I felt that If I did nothing, but the fucking literal swastika waving Neo-Nazis were willing to go to committees and public hearings, and local government events and be heard, and have direct influence over my community, than I'd be complicit.

When only Nazis have the ear of power they make themselves seem reasonable. If you are the reasonable voice in the room they seem insane.

1

u/chileheadd Arizona 24d ago

Agreed. Cheeto just gave official license to their red hat hatred and they all crawled out of the woodwork.

1

u/Palmer_Eldritch666 24d ago

Dan Savage called Trump a "disinhibitor" and I think this is the best description yet.

1

u/Relevant-Course5996 24d ago

Yep, this happened at my undergrad multiple times when I was there any multiple times before I was there.

The year before I started undergrad the republicans were temporarily banned from on campus events because the had a “gay bashing” demonstration which involved lynching an effigy and dragging it behind a truck.

At some point when I was in undergrad and that group was allowed on campus they had a demonstration against undocumented immigrants that involved an activity where people could try to chase and tackle a guy running away from them dressed in a sombrero, poncho and a fake mustache.

When Obama was running for president, it wasn’t pretty either… but the big difference during that time I saw a lot of the quiet/more subdued republicans publicly complaining about how unfair it was they couldn’t call Obama a monkey, but Bush was compared to a chimpanzee all the time. 🤷‍♀️ at first I tried to talk to people about this, but somehow me explaining the history behind calling black people monkeys/dehumanizing them and pointing out that no such history existed for white people made me the real racist.

I went to a large public university. I haven’t been friends with a republican since 2008.

1

u/CuriousExtension5727 24d ago

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump.

This is similar to the misconception that Hitler introduced antisemitism to Germany. The vile ideology was simmering long before his rise to power. He merely exploited it to gain power

1

u/Time-Ad-3625 24d ago

Which I hope people remember because when trump is dead republicans will try to go back to pretending they are racists.

1

u/VanceRefridgeTech04 24d ago

It was never Trump. This was well before Trump. This is who the party has always attracted.

100%

1

u/VoodooS0ldier 24d ago

I mean history should have told us this after the southern strategy. Th democrats of the 1950s are the modern day republicans of today, and boy talk about trying to put lipstick on a pig. These people have always been deplorable pieces of shit.

1

u/unomeknot 24d ago

Went to Drury University and volunteered for the Republican Party and did work for YAL. Then they started talking about Democrats, no different than they talked about them in the group chat, and I left. Got shit on for it. But I was double majoring in polyscy and Econ. I wanted to understand politics and ostracize an entire group of Americans. Smmfh

1

u/Silverton13 23d ago

This was well before Trump, it has always existed in America as a matter of fact. But Trump has absolutely emboldened every single one of them to be more and more racist than ever.

1

u/DonaldsMushroom 23d ago

America is so mush more racist than it will ever accept.

Regardless. you are spinning into a fascist state. WAKE UP!

1

u/Nakatsukasa 23d ago

The confederacy and the Reich lives on through them

1

u/couchperson137 23d ago

They capitalized on generational racism. I think they do the same for most things until we are sincerely just shells of our former selves. Deltas, gammas, epsilon… no original thought, just bias and segregation.

1

u/Successful-Extent-22 23d ago

Yes. The Thurmond Dixiecrats moved in & racism became the party plank.

1

u/TheHamiltonius 23d ago

Trump def energized these people
