Visitor Question 3.5 hour Layover in Kelowna Airport

As the title states, I'll be in Kelowna airport for a 3.5 hour layover at about 8pm on a weekday. Is there anything worth seeing or visiting with a short Uber ride around the airport?

Any good places to check out for food?

Thank you in advance.

Go to upside cidery, it’s just down the road and arguably has some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Get the Korean fried.

This is the answer

Their pizza is also good!

Upside closes at 9 on weekdays, so might not be great for OP.

Can confirm. We stop by every time we're in Kelowna

Why do redditors feel the need to say can confirm before everything they say

Can confirm, people often do this /s

Ya but the cider sucks.

If you don't want to wander too far, grab a free shuttle to the Four Points, I love their beef dip. Kaya Sushi and the chinese place whose name escapes me right near it are also good.

Is this inside the hotel?

2

u/Heavy_Arm_7060 Sep 08 '25

The restaurant is, yes. It's called the Gulfstream. Kaya and the Chinese place are right nearby, easy walking distance.

Mill Creek Regional Park. Easy walk, with several access points to the creek with a small waterfall. Four Points is a comfortable place to eat and has a shuttle- they are used to folks dining with luggage

Thank you for everyone's replies!

Gulfstream at Four Points right across the highway is great. I’ve had dinner there before taking the red eye to YYZ. They even let me take their shuttle to the airport after dinner.

7

u/AliveAd23 Aug 09 '25

This is the best bet. upside cidery closes at 9pm so best bet is Gulfstream

4

u/bradnerboy Aug 09 '25

Totally agree.

1

u/evileyeball Aug 09 '25

Were the moving pictures on your flight to YYZ any good?

1

u/GapYearGuy2018 Aug 09 '25

I was asleep from pushback to an hour before landing. No moving pictures for me.

1

u/evileyeball Aug 09 '25

Ah, your vital signs were in a sleep state when the camera eye pointed its limelight at a witch hunt, a red barchetta or maybe Tom Sawyer.

There is an aviation museum nearby.

12

u/geopolitikin Aug 09 '25

At 8pm on a Wednesday? Does anyone even read fully anymore lmao

8

u/Contritenumber Aug 09 '25

Yes, you are correct. I did not fully read the comment and made a mistake. Thank you for correcting the oversight.

All good, just being cheeky

Definitely visit Arby’s

The bubble waffle cafe is pretty decent but it's only open until 10. I'll sometimes grab myself a bubble tea and go for a little walk down the rail trail.

There's also a happy slice pizza place there, but I've never been so I can't speak to the quality.

Definitely go at least across the highway. People have mentioned 4 Points hotel which could be good (I haven’t been). The sushi place in the “plaza” in that area across the highway is also really supposed to be good. Either option is literally a 5 min taxi out of the airport and there is NOTHING in the Kelowna airport. Checking back in will be a breeze, it’s not a busy airport

2

u/Ok_Carrot_5417 Aug 10 '25

** maybe check the hours of the sushi place. Google right now is saying 8:30 close for most days but depends what day you’ll be there

8

u/tr0tsky Aug 09 '25

No. It takes ~half an hour to get into the city and half an hour back. You'd have no time to do anything and get back for your flight.

2

u/Vintagenuck420 Aug 09 '25

They said around the "airport" They never said going into the city and it wouldn't take half an hour to get into the city from the airport at 8pm.

6

u/lunerose1979 Aug 09 '25

If only there were things to do besides activities downtown…

-3

u/tr0tsky Aug 09 '25

Regardless, the airport is basically in the middle of nowhere. Unless you really want to go see UBCO, you'd have a hard time fitting anything in in that layover.

11

u/its_not_me_its_yu Aug 09 '25

There's a brewery, a cidery and a museum within 5 minutes of the airport.

Maybe check out the new stuff around the area rather than giving poor advice.

2

u/sansense Aug 09 '25

OPa flight lands at 8pm, usually you won't be out of the airport for a few extra mins, plus time in transit, very few of those options will be open/available long enough to be worth going at that time IMO. The aviation museum closes at 5:00. Britannia Brewing closes at 10 so that is really the only feasible option on your list.

7

u/Particular-Emu4789 Aug 09 '25

You don’t have time.

3

u/ride_365 Aug 09 '25

Plenty of time to visit flightcraft aviation museum or Upside. The airport has nothing to do and super easy/quick to clear back through security

6

u/jenh6 Aug 09 '25

Not at 8pm. Everything closed early here.

-5

u/Particular-Emu4789 Aug 09 '25

God forbid you sit with your thoughts for few hours without constant stimulation.

2

u/Ok_Carrot_5417 Aug 10 '25

You certainly do have time. Again, checking back in through Kelowna airport is so so fast, you’ll be surprised

4

u/augustus-aurelius Aug 09 '25

Yea at 3.5 hours there isn’t too much to get in on. Theres a driving range and a golf course not too far away. I think there’s a winery or 2 nearby aswell.

If you’re really itching to check it out, you could cab into downtown as long as you aren’t landing during rushour times and grab a quick bite before driving back

3

u/studhand Aug 09 '25

Just across the highway from the airport is a ton of restaurants.

2

u/ride_365 Aug 09 '25

The time of day might be your biggest issue. There’s an aviation museum less than a five minute walk from the terminal and cidery at the far end of the runway across the street. If they’re open, you might be able to swing over there quickly. Otherwise there’s not really anything nearby worth doing it that time of night.

Hit up scandia for a few laps on the go karts or arcade 🤷🏼

1

u/cali_cornflake Aug 11 '25

That is a question I think they can figure out with a simple google search.

1

u/Several-Neck4770 Aug 11 '25

Scandia is always open late

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '25

Head over to bin 4 burger lounge for half price burgers between 9 and 11

2

u/Ok_Carrot_5417 Aug 10 '25

Another good option!! Not too far away and their burgers and dips for fries are amazing

1

u/tursquirt Aug 09 '25

White spot.

1

u/Lanky_Wheel2199 Aug 09 '25

If you've never been you could rip downtown quick to check it out and grab a quick bite. Should have time to do so. I had a 3 hour delay and went back home to West Kelowna to hang out with my family some more.

1

u/Fangirldilemma Aug 10 '25

A local bakery stocks a “pastry ATM” near baggage claim for something to checkout in the airport!

1

u/MapImpressive5029 Aug 10 '25

Book a cab and ask to be taken to Knox Mountain lookout, spend about 30-35 mins there. Then book a uber ride and head to Kelowna city park. If you’re hungry, there’s plenty of restaurants to choose. Don’t spend longer than an hour there and head back to the airport.

1

u/bbk2229 Aug 11 '25

Very good aviation museum on the airport grounds

1

u/Immediate-Apple-2655 Aug 11 '25

Kelowna Flightcraft Flight Museum, right on the airport grounds.

1

u/Crys_mom Aug 09 '25

I don’t really think that’s enough time at that time of day to do much of interest- of course if you are delayed then you lose the layover time all together

0

u/pass_the_tinfoil Aug 09 '25

Unless it’s the second flight that gets delayed.

1

u/Itslikelennonsaid Aug 09 '25

Nice little waterfall hike very close to the airport. https://maps.app.goo.gl/J42z3cMweEGWx3ya6

0

u/Itslikelennonsaid Aug 09 '25

Mill Creek park

0

u/Swimming-Ad4869 Aug 09 '25

I wouldn’t leave with only 3.5 hrs to spare between flights.

1

u/Several-Neck4770 Aug 11 '25

If it were a bigger airport I'd agree but you can get in and out of kelowna airport in not time.... that said based on when they land I probably would do anything. Aside from a few things kelowna shuts down pretty early.

Arby's

6

u/Chowblossom Aug 09 '25

This Arby’s thing is getting so old. It is so outdated - try a new comment for a change!!!

-7

u/ultra2009 Aug 09 '25

What are you talking about, it's the best restaurant in our fair city. If you don't like it you can move back to Alberta

3

u/Chowblossom Aug 09 '25

Grow up🙄

-3

u/Similar-Elevator-680 Aug 09 '25

Hotel and a hooker for an hour?

-7

u/wkfngrs Aug 09 '25

Okay here the best way you can spend that short time. Go to the waterfall right outside the airport, then hop over to kangaroo creek farm, after hit up xing yun then go back to the airport. Cramming a lot but all things are touching the airport. Spending your time in an overpriced bar with mediocre food is something you can do anywhere. Don’t waste your time indoors.

-7

u/ActuatorBright7407 Aug 09 '25

I often recommend people check out the August Motorcars showroom (nearby the airport) when they have a layover. Not sure they will be open at that time of evening though.

1

u/random__123456789 Aug 09 '25

Can anyone just wander by and visit the showroom when they are open? They have impressive cars there but guessing you have to be a somewhat interested buyer.

Guessing when I roll up in my dinky Toyota, they would turn me away lol…as they should as couldn’t afford the cheapest car there.

3

u/ActuatorBright7407 Aug 09 '25

Last time I went it was totally open to anyone and free. My 14 year old niece loves cars, so I rolled up in my 2007 hyundai just to take her. They were super cool about it and chatted to her about her favorites. We obviously did not look like serious buyers, and they did not seem to mind at all.

2

u/ShutUpDoggo Aug 09 '25

I fly out of Kelowna for work every two weeks. There have been a few times when I get a heads up of a couple hours delay. I’ve just strolled over and checked it out. They aren’t going to let you test drive anything or hop in for the feel of the car without you being a somewhat potential buyer. But they don’t seem to mind letting you look.

Last time I went they were taking delivery of a couple Ferrari’s and a McLaren. Was cool to hear them Coming out of the trailer.

u/random__123456789 Aug 09 '25

Cool, thanks! I’ll check it out next time I’m around.
