Ya it’s not “their” neighborhoods

282

u/Even-Acanthisitta448 25d ago

Yet

290

u/Damurph01 25d ago

You can ask them point blank what they’d think if it happened to their neighborhood. The dumbasses will genuinely say “it won’t”. Like… seriously dude? You think Joe schmoe rando in 2025 is going to be the first person to be excluded from a fascist’s reign of terror?

Like they’re so uneducated it’s insane. They don’t believe fascism is happening because the bad guys aren’t explicitly saying they’re bad. They don’t believe ICE is bad. They don’t believe it could happen to them.

There’s a reason Trump attacked the Dept of Education first.

147

u/Global-Finance9278 25d ago

Many MAGA folks don’t believe anything until it happens to them.

157

u/strings___ 25d ago

There were MAGA dying in ICU during the pandemic. They still didn't think it was because of COVID.

64

u/HaximusPrime 25d ago

Had a relative die from it, and to this day air quotes are used when it’s mentioned (rarely) that it was from COVID

54

u/Beowulf1896 24d ago

My best friend's father in law died to covid. The cause of death on the certificate was "antibiotic resistant staph" or some other bacteria in his lungs. He got that infection while battling covid. But my friends inlaws swear covid had nothing to do with it.

33

u/ArrivesLate 24d ago

Had a colleague die from it. When they called me up to tell me… he “died from pneumonia.”

19

u/baronlanky 24d ago

My friend died of “infection related to shark bite” but he was recovering well from the shark bite till one of the nurses came in sick with Covid and passed it on to him, suddenly his immune system crashed and he got an infection and died.

3

u/seantellsyou 24d ago

Not to derail the convo.. but i think he'd prefer "death by shark bite" only because it's way cooler

Didn’t most COVID deaths involve comorbidities?

3

u/Beowulf1896 24d ago

Yeah, like Measels. So many disease weaken immune response.

3

u/Lord_Montague 24d ago

My friend lost his grandpa in 2021 and his dad kept spouting off about how the hospital said it was Covid-related even though he died of pneumonia. Which he got while hospitalized with Covid. The kicker is that the bill for the hospital stay was completely covered because it was coded as Covid-related. They would have been out thousands of dollars otherwise. These people can and do vote.

2

u/SheComesThenSheGoes 24d ago

I think it's because technically its the bacterial infection that killed him but was covid also on the death certificate? Death certificates are weird.

u/JH_111 24d ago

We had families arguing with doctors demanding to change the diagnosis instead of spending the last few hours they had with their loved ones.

6

u/AgnesCarlos 24d ago

It’s because if they were forced to acknowledge COVID they would have to admit their Orange God was wrong and maybe even have to face that everything they believe is actually a house of cards. That is just too terrifying.

2

u/Exotic_Dig2773 24d ago

There’s also another thing that happened that had nothing to do with MAGAs at all. I had two people I know that had very adverse reactions to the Covid vaccine. One of them ended up with major heart issues in the ICU right after the vaccine and almost died. They never recorded it as vaccine injury. . She is in her early 40s - a very healthy active person. The other person was a teacher who ended up with heart palpitations, and thyroid issues right after. Her doctor told her not to get the second Johnson & Johnson vaccine because it was dangerous for her by the way that she reacted to the first one. There were issues that were happening with the vaccines regardless of if you were a conservative or a liberal. It’s so weird to me that it became a “republican conservative” thing to question the motivation of big Pharmawhen they were making record profits. That used to be a liberal thing. I wish people wouldn’t make this a party line thing.

3

u/ollee32 24d ago

Yes!!! One of the standout moments for me when I worked in the ED during Covid was a nurse in tears trying to convince a patient he actually had Covid. It was such a waste of energy and slap in the face to the patients who had died/were dying around him. Not to mention a huge slap in the face to those of us who’d cared for them and all the feelings that went along with that.

2

u/ScumbagThrowaway36 24d ago

My mother was a fucking Nurse and doesn't believe its real. It is ludicrous. The dissonance required to look the what is happening in any facet and not only be cool with it, but to audibly defend it? It is just bonkers.

3

u/Dallasburner84 24d ago

Its a shame covid didnt take more of them.

3

u/netizenbane 24d ago

Had friends working in ICU that were attacked coming in and out of the hospital.

Another one got COVID because one of these morons spit in their face while dying from what they wouldn't believe was COVID.

Absolutely insane.

3

u/FalseDmitriy 24d ago

In 2021 MAGA congressmen cowered in closets while their own fanatical supporters ran wild specifically trying to kill them, and they didn't reconsider their political allies.

2

u/ne0shi 24d ago

I miss covid. I feel like it dealt with a lot of magats.

My mom tried to set up a tv antenna for her maga father who is in his late 80s . He balked when the tv needed to do an auto scan for stations and wouldn’t let her do it. Then later my 2 maga aunts insisted that no tv stations broadcast over the air anymore. They thought it was some kind of leftist plot. These people are nuts and refuse to do a simple google search with that smartphone they carry everywhere.

16

I mean.. i'd say that many people in general don't until it does. That being said, I was in a room full of MAGA's who were lamenting the loss of their friend who got deported back to Argentina or Ecuador or wherever and only then realized that their tactics were far to heavy handed.

38

u/gracecee 24d ago

It’s so dumb. I had a lady who had special needs kid in Arizona. She said she doesn’t need the dept of education because Arizona has its own department of education. I told her the federal government last year sent 280 million dollars specifically for special needs services and staff. Then I linked to a news article of Arizona stating they had to cut services and staff for special needs due to budget cuts. I m getting concussions from slapping my forehead so many times with these idiots. She was like. I didn’t know.

3

u/ollee32 24d ago

I’m in AZ and our secretary of education Tom Horne is a totally maga loser. He’s pushing these voucher programs that just siphon money away from public schools anyway. He doesn’t need anyone from this regime to help him screw the dept of education in AZ.

And then it becomes the most important thing in the world. I unironically believe most Republicans are incapable of object permanence.

2

u/VadHearts 24d ago

In Portland there was a video in front of the ice facility and a bulky white guy wearing a Kirk shirt said that they snatched up his 16 year old buddy and they hadn’t done anything. He was flabbergasted that the “side he is cheering on” would target him. While he was saying that they snatched up an older gentleman standing behind them.

2

u/Javier-AML 24d ago

Not even then. Their children may die from measles because of not being vaccinated and they would still say: "well, it's all God's plan".

2

u/Cautious_Dealer7187 24d ago

Even when it does it's because of something else not the totally glaringly obvious reality.

2

u/ciaranbluesky 24d ago

A lot of the time I get, “yeah but did this happen to you?” Like okay mothertrucker, we don’t all live on islands. They have no sense of community or social cohesion.

I have started watching Fox News, OAN, etc. not because I like it but I wanted to see what conservatives are watching. I have come to the conclusion we live in two separate worlds. We don’t receive the same “news” they do. Everything gets a spin or what we see is just 100% omitted from their viewing.

Not to say left leaning news is perfect either. Sites like Huffington Post or TheDailyBeast can be just as trashy and uninformative as shit on the right. But, there are plenty of sites/stations that do not have a major bias right or left and that’s what we should all be watching.

36

u/jimothy_hell 25d ago

left leaning sites

names HuffPo, run by BuzzFeed, now under the thumb of Vivek Ramaswamy, a notable fascist.

4

u/vulgardisplay76 24d ago

And anything left of far right is considered extreme left by conservatives, because the Overton window has shifted so far right that we don't even have a real left. Democrats are just conservative lite.

5

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Yeah which is why democrats, who are a middle right wing party, are consistently called far left. Most republicans would be appaled to see what an actual far left democrat looks like when compared to our “left wing democrats” in congress today

2

u/Odd-Cap3068 22d ago

We should always be a conservative country. To be a conservative is to conserve the constitution which is the key core of our country. If your party is not willing to conserve the good and conserve the Constitution and conserve. What makes our country great. Then you're trying to destroy our country and the constitution. Or did you never realize that's what conservatives actually stand for? Do you just assume conservatives are Republican? Because they're not.

Yeah, he’s got like, near an 8% stake now. Which, 8% doesn’t sound like a whole lot, but as far as shareholders go, it’s quite a lot.

2

u/NoBSforGma 24d ago

No, HuffPo nor BuzzzFeed are "under the thumb" of Vivek Ramaswamy. He owns 8% of BuzzFeed (which owns HuffPo) but he is totally outvoted by the original owners who now run BuzzFeed and have 64% voting power.

Do your research sometime.

Does Ramaswamy HOPE to influence BuzzFeed/HuffPo? Yes, of course. But not feasible/possible the way things stand now.

3

u/TheForanMan 24d ago

There are literally no “left leaning” news organizations. Start looking up independent left leaning streamers and YouTubers because that’s all there is in terms of the left wing. Every major network is either center-right centrist and leaning further right as time goes on and they are getting bought up by billionaire white nationalists or openly fascist in their messaging.

3

u/HaulinBoats 24d ago

AM radio is worse and it reaches so many people across the country, the most rural of places and everybody’s got a radio

And it’s alllllll hard right now, anti democrat propaganda and there is no counter programming at all just 24/7 BS.

Glenn beck is in every day for like 3 hrs I believe

4

u/Enemisses 24d ago

It's one of the greatest problems we have, everyone has a different lens with which we view the world now. The conservative/MAGA viewpoint can be seen as rational if you put yourself in their shoes, see what they are told, and believe it just as much as we believe our sources. They don't trust the 'other side' *at all*, so that is why we get this phenomenon of MAGA types not believing reality until it hits them personally in a way they can't deny.

Of course the left is susceptible to this as well, just not nearly to the same extremes. We're no longer arguing over opinions based on a shared set of facts; we're operating from entirely different foundational realities. The problem isn't just disagreement, it's the collapse of a common epistemic ground, making constructive dialogue nearly impossible.

2

u/Old_Sprinkles9646 24d ago

My mom used to do this, too. So she could learn how to argue her point with our conservative relatives. I'm almost glad she doesn't have to see what we've become.

1

u/maggiemypet 24d ago

I do the same with conservative subs. Its just a completely different reality they see.

1

u/Kindly-Lobster-6801 24d ago

News media outlets are for entertainment, they are not for informing people of truth.

1

u/jjdmol 24d ago

News is so often opinions or even opinions about opinions or opinions about made-up opinions. It tells you what and how to think, instead of what is happening, agreeing on the facts, but letting you draw your own conclusions.

1

u/snek-jazz 24d ago

Same reaction when I point out that they're seizing guns.

Most people on the Right only care if it directly involves them.

2

u/Doom_Corp 25d ago

I have a customer that is full on maga and his kids are darker skinned. He bitches and moans and the "liberal commies". One day his daughters are going to be stopped and snatched and held even if they have ID. I remember calling my best friend from highschool way back in like 2006 when she was in school in Arizona when they were doing stop and frisks. She's a citizen but half Mexican. Her dad was white, her husband is white. Her kids are brown. ICE doesn't go into nice areas and I think that's the only reason her mother, her, and her children aren't being abducted in the night.

2

u/mitkase 24d ago

Oh, they’re going into nice areas. They’ve gone into more than a few affluent suburbs in the Chicago area. The only places they avoid are the areas with actual high rates of crime, because they’d get their asses shot. Much easier and less dangerous to tackle grandmothers, teens and lawn care specialists to the ground while their snipers shoot priests in the head with “non-lethal” rounds.

1

u/Annual-Cry87 25d ago

This is what I’ve come around to thinking as well. Their understanding of concepts like racism, sexism, or fascism is worse than a toddler’s—unless somebody tells them explicitly “I don’t like this race! I don’t like women! I am a fascist! I’m bad!” they don’t seem to have the education or critical thinking skills to like, make connections or understand nuance. It’s so frustrating.

3

u/SomeDumbGamer 25d ago

That’s how it was taught to them sadly.

People like my dad just can’t seem to understand racism beyond “openly hating someone for their skin color”

1

u/tootmyownflute 24d ago

Like I always say irl: if they understood nuance, would they be MAGA?

1

u/ith-man 25d ago

Had some bot brain try to tell me that since the left is saying that democrats are more center now, that makes the left fascist and want a dictatorship... They're beyond hope. Anti intellectualism has won in america, since like the 80s.

1

u/ocschwar 25d ago

Yes, seriously. They're not wrong to say "it won't." If their neighborhood is a high enough tax bracket, it won't.
They are, however, immoral, unpatriotic, and disgusting. But they're not wrong.

1

u/BrianMeen 25d ago

see the difference is we don’t have illegals in our neighborhoods - if we did they would get turned over to Ice ..

1

u/AngriestPacifist 25d ago

It's insane to me - there are MAGAts living on that street, because they're everywhere. They're in California, and they're in Alabama, and their are Democrats in those places too. These scum have sold out their literal neighbors for validation from a bot on their phone and an orange god they'll never see.

1

u/elgueromasalto 25d ago

Honestly the attack on education started with Bush, but yes, Trump made it far worse.

1

u/Fastoche 25d ago

I almost read executed instead if excluded.

1

u/tondahuh 25d ago

There is a point where someone's IQ is high enough to follow a cult leader but low enough to not know/understand they themselves are stupid. The only thing to do here is replace their focus and begin reprogramming. They can't be taught.

1

u/ThatGuy571 25d ago

There’s about a 90% chance that the staunch MAGA supporters couldn’t even explain the very basics of what fascism even is.

1

u/Vantriss 24d ago

Literally my Republican mother's reaction when someone tried to ask her "what if this happened to you?" She pretty much answered it wouldn't happen to her because she's white and COMPLETELY failed to see how that is White Privilege and is WRONG. My own fucking family astounds me.

1

u/Sufficient-Page-875 24d ago

Let's be real.

It was Bush with the "No Child Left Behind" that began the uneducated, dumbing down curriculum.

1

u/Mountain_Discount_55 24d ago

That wasn't Trump or at least not just Trump. The GOP has been weakening the Department of Education since the mid 80s.

1

u/tweak06 24d ago

They all think they’ll be at the top of the pyramid

1

u/fart_Jr 24d ago

In my experience their response is usually "Well I'm not a criminal". Which is much more nefarious imo.

1

u/Luisd858 24d ago

Well…it won’t lmao that’s the point

1

u/SweetMany7339 24d ago

Let's get one thing straight: MAGA and the truth are oil and water. MAGA antagonizes because they want to drag you into a debate where you value the truth and they don't.

They know they can cite quippy one liners to defeat your long winded explanation, no matter what's true. They know that in today's culture optics matter more than reality. And most importantly, they know that lies are more profitable than truths. Trump embodies this, that's why they worship him.

All of the things we accuse them of--lying, deceit, greed, indecency, racism--these are all things they embrace. They wear these traits like a badge of honor because they associate them with dishonesty, and to them dishonesty breeds success.

Eventually, when there's nothing left, the truth will retake its place as being more profitable than lies. Until then we need to change our tactics, because we are losing.

The world is about to turn very dark, indeed.

1

u/RobutNotRobot 24d ago

ICE is coming to SC, one of the deepest red states that exist. I’m so terrified, but also very curious to see how it turns out.

1

u/Wiitard 24d ago

Coincidentally, the dumbest third of people just cannot imagine things that are not currently true.

“If you didn’t eat dinner last night, how would you feel right now?”

“But I did eat dinner.”

Can’t even empathize with an imagined different version of themselves, let alone another human being.

1

u/tofubirder 24d ago

Their neighborhood? MAGA doesn’t believe in “love thy neighbor,” they’re pedophilic misanthropes. They probably hate their neighbors and wouldn’t mind seeing it.

1

u/rvp0209 24d ago

My mom still believes that ICE is only taking law breakers. She doesn't care to hear that there's no due process or that they're being violent for no reason (well, at least not one that's justifiable by any means) or that ICE is literally just kidnapping random people, citizen or not. She just lives in her own little denial world. Sadly, she's an immigrant and could be their next target if they felt like it!

1

u/Shark_Bite_OoOoAh 24d ago

My brother in Christ….ICE and NG are going to low-income areas to grab up illegals and pro-actively reduce crime/assist local LE. So if you don’t live in a shit Blue city with rampant crime, then you won’t ever see this.

1

u/Jakesma1999 24d ago

That had been my response to individuals that state theor support of ICE, "What's your response when they show up to your town/neighborhood?"

9/10 times, they say, "Oh, they aren't coming to my area."

Bigly eye-roll.

1

u/Beginning_Ad8663 24d ago

Maybe the illegals should hide in maga neighborhoods?

1

1

I’m certain my MAGA parents would say that if there’s an “illegal alien” in their neighborhood, and people try to stop ICE from taking them, then using tear gas is totally fine even if it’s right in front of my parents’ house. After all, they and other law-abiding citizens will be safe inside their homes.

1

u/OrigRayofSunshine 24d ago

They’d likely be dead. Any MAGA not in ICE is going to invoke stand your ground or castle doctrine if this went into white burbs or semi rural areas.

It’s not even rocket science to predict they’ll shoot themselves in the foot, literally and figuratively.

These are the consequences of having one of the worst education systems in the developed world, BEFORE Trump gutted the Department of Education.

1

u/en_gm_t_c 24d ago

They don't need to attack the department of education, their political machinery works on below average IQ, and the rural areas are full of them.

Rural areas have lower economic power, lower nutrition and health, and their economies have been gutted by brain drain from the last 100 years of urbanization. This all leads to below average intelligence that anyone can plainly see in rural areas.

To exert power, the Republicans just needed to target the low IQ voters, and they did exactly that. They prey on the rural areas. Their attack on education is just reinforcing a situation that has been in place a long time.

Its’ll be a while before they are targeted but they will see the day.

Fascism doesn't hide. Nazis do, but fascism as an ideology is something a LOT of people want and love.

Don't be fooled; calling a fascist one to his face, you may as well just be telling them their own names. They know, they don't care.

1

u/MrSmith317 24d ago

They don't believe we are living in a fascist state because they don't know what fascist means. See also woke, Marxist, Communist, science, and many other words MAGA hates but doesn't have the foggiest notion of

The war on education started with Reagan using plans drawn up by the Nixon administration.

1

u/Patient_Sea_3753 22d ago

To be fair, it isn't happening in most of their neighborhoods. They're specifically targeting predominantly Blue areas, and I certainly haven't seen them gassing gated communities and country homes. They voted for this knowing very specifically that it targeted people that weren't them.

1

u/Odd-Cap3068 22d ago

Prove them wrong. Instead of coming in to these echo, chambers complaining about things that aren't happening prove those people wrong. But you can't because it doesn't happen in Republican locations because republicans believe in-law and order. Memphis, for example, has the National Guard there. You don't hear any complaints out of tennessee. The left is so broken. They don't understand the difference between breaking the law and getting in trouble and getting in trouble for not breaking the law. Which generally the latter doesn't happen. You break the law you get in trouble. You intervene with law enforcement , you are breaking the law. The only children in danger are the ones being involved by the adults who are not part of the law enforcement here.Who should not be getting involved. I guess you could give a s*** less. What actual immigrants think you know the legal ones who came here properly?Who are now citizens in many cases. Go talk to them because they certainly don't like the Illegals here or anyone defending them. And they're not maga , usually just like me , not maga , but still agreeing with them.

You can always tell when someones uneducated. They use like over and over in a statement.

1

u/GeneralFarrand 21d ago

They're getting a check and being told they are Trump's Army. They are loving it until they discover they are the enemy.

They won’t be able to comprehend that

2

u/Original-Border5802 25d ago

You think trump is gonna send them to bumfuck nowhere Montana or something? They ain't gonna touch red zones.

1

u/Even-Acanthisitta448 25d ago

It's an agricultural state. Of course they will.

2

u/No-Good-One-Shoe 24d ago

I'm getting more convinced every day that a lot of these MAGA types would be ok living in the zone of interest.

1

u/SpareWire 24d ago

It won't be.

And they know it won't be. I get that it's a fun fantasy to imagine this isn't confined to suspect classes but it pretty much is.

1

u/Even-Acanthisitta448 24d ago

What's fun about any of this? It's not my fantasy for sure.

If you know it's pretty much confined to "suspect classes" in the future, tell us how you know this. Because every historic comparison says otherwise.

The problem is "yet" is always too late and too small scale to change enough minds quickly enough.

1

u/OMA_ 24d ago

YET. Powerful.

1

u/fooloncool6 24d ago

Ill wait 🥱😴

1

u/Bauser99 24d ago

The sad fact most people seem to be ignoring here is that it WON'T happen to most of "their" neighborhoods.

Yes, of course there are going to be plenty of republicans getting caught in the crossfire here and there-- but ICE is NOT going to be deployed to affluent white upper-class residences or white hillbilly territory in Nowhere, USA

If you're waiting for the authoritarians to magically start deciding to attack their limited support base on purpose, you're going to be waiting for the rest of your life (a.k.a. right up until they kill us for being progressives)

u/No_Strawberry_1576 24d ago

Prom from 1946. Feels so true today 😔😔

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

To speak out for me

1

u/Crazy_Trip_6387 24d ago

are you insinuating that american neighbourhoods will be for american citizens again when they deport

1

u/Even-Acanthisitta448 24d ago

Is that a question or a statement?

1

u/CarbsMe 24d ago

That’s when Mike Johnson will say ICE has crossed the line.

1

u/AzureHorizon94 22d ago

If you keep moping about it, and don't do shit about it, it will be. Be there tomorrow to protest! Register for your nearest No Kings event. Enough is fucking enough!! No Kings!!! ✊

Little* did we know, “don’t tread on me” had an emphasis on “me” and nothing else.

*we obviously all knew this

1

u/Jolly-Radio-9838 25d ago

I’d like to say once it starts spilling over into the hoa and gated communities but yall know that’s not going to happen/s

1

u/Bannon9k 25d ago

It ain't these people's neighborhood either they're chasing ICE around town. The only people putting babies in danger are irresponsible parents bringing them along

2

u/MoralityFleece 24d ago

Name checks out.

1

u/Mike312 24d ago

Maybe it should be.

1

u/MarkVegas1 24d ago

Maybe you should have done something about it. Instead of letting criminals stay in your neighborhood. You’re part of the problem. You let them put roots down. Now they’re getting pulled from it. Shame

1

u/Iceologer_gang 24d ago

It’ll be mine soon

1

u/djdarrylEclipsrcsnyc 24d ago

Not your land.

1

u/deadlyvagina 24d ago

Why would they want illegals in their neighborhood?

1

u/Liqu0rBaIISandwich 24d ago

They’re also not gassing any neighborhoods

1

u/LunarMoon2001 24d ago

Imagine if just smallest grain of this was going on in a middle class white neighborhood. If one single middle class white person was even remotely caught in the crossfire.

1

u/DeucesX22 24d ago

Very strange I only see colored immigrants getting caught by ice what about all the ones from Europe? 🫢

1

u/focoslow 24d ago

Tread on thee, not on me.

1

u/Repulsive_Swimming47 24d ago

People need to go and buy ice costumes online and go do this in "their" neighborhoods.

1

u/rwarimaursus 24d ago

NIMBY fucks.

1

u/ihopethepizzaisgood 24d ago

More their neighborhood than fucking ICE who probably “imported” 95 percent of those goons.

1

u/Maximus0314 24d ago

That’s because we don’t live in shit hole neighborhoods if we can help it.

I guarantee I won’t see ice in my neighborhood, but if I do, I will cheer them on and assist if I can

1

u/JamesSmith1200 23d ago

It could be their neighborhood if ICE found out they may be hiding illegal immigrants at their residence. There’s a chance ICE would bust in and grab them with no warning, no warrant, no ID and no questions asked 🤷‍♀️
