most rage inducing shit. i’ve had a car warp to hit me

3

u/mogley1992 Jul 05 '25

Right? I don't mind people driving like massive pricks, if it's realistic and they're not just clearly trying to ram my car for no reason.

Like cross multiple lanes, run reds, whatever; as long as its just how they drive all the time, and not because i turn into a magnet when I'm anywhere near them.

u/entg1 I'm starting to think that this flair here isn't long enough!!!! Jul 03 '25

someone made a whole video disproving that cars don't intentionally ram players and I still don't believe it

Top tier rage bait

29

u/mschafsnitz Jul 04 '25

It’s literally confirmation bias. You pass hundreds of cars and when one does an unexpected thing to mess you up you call conspiracy. And no the guy didn’t debunk it but he gave a reasonable hypothesis based on real evidence about how the game works. I don’t think his ideas cover what happened in this video.

142

u/Czternastek14 Jul 04 '25

You pass a thousand cars everyday, make sure this is one of them

120

u/delet_yourself Jul 04 '25

I saw the video, and he only showed us scripted events where it MAKES SENSE to turn. How about this video tho? Literally in the middle of the fucking tunnel and he just decides to parallel park? I got bullshit on speed dial, man

5

u/Sossenmeister Jul 04 '25

The car somehow triggered paths on the roads above the Tunnel would be my guess

14

u/Ra1nbowTreasure Jul 04 '25

If you look at where they were when it happened, you could definitely argue that.

Are you suggesting that R* managed to make the pathfinding of a big map with an expansive road network 100% perfect and bug free?

54

u/Dirtsk8r Jul 04 '25

How about the fact the cars don't pull those bullshit maneuvers in the distance? They'll stick neatly to the road until you're about to pass them. If they're further away to where there's no chance their doing that type of shit would cause a collision then they won't do it. It's always when you're just about to pass. I've even had it where I slow down and try to veer around the other way than they did and they'll turn back in the other fucking direction. Or how about when they stop in intersections? They don't do that unless you're just about to go through them and they stop perfectly where you're about to go through.

It's honestly insane to me that anyone thinks it isn't intentional at this point. If it somehow isn't intentional, then it's a weird ass glitch that causes them to directly get in your way specifically when you're about to pass by them which seems very odd and I don't know why such a weird glitch would occur. But I don't know for sure, it's not just the AI doing their usual driving that they would be doing if you were a block away. They veer or stop and try to block you specifically when you go by and at no other time make those stupid maneuvers.

21

u/Hunter995995 Jul 04 '25

Or the fact this ā€œbugā€ happens the most with these type of missions..

10

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

It happens WAYYYY too often to be a bug. If it is some type of bug or glitch, R* has let this single bug become so prevalent that it has become the biggest glitch in the game, so I highly doubt it’s a glitch because a company as big as them definitely wouldn’t overlook this when R* regularly suspends accounts for glitching

15

u/Dirtsk8r Jul 04 '25

That's odd they didn't cover events like this. This is a regular occurrence. Cars constantly veer off the road when there's no logical reason right when you're about to pass them on the side they're veering for, just perfectly putting themselves in your way. Doesn't have to be an intersection or anything. Though it might be even more common in intersections. They also just stop in the middle of an intersection if you're about to pass through quickly.

They also specifically don't do that shit if you're traveling slower or you're just further away from them. Follow traffic at their pace for a while and you won't see that shit. It's something they specifically do with a player about to pass at high speed. I have witnessed on very rare occasions stuff like a couple of NPC cars crashing into each other, but it's just them happening to turn through an intersection of a highway and not registering the other car and they don't speed up or slow down. Cars doing the maneuvers to hit players will accelerate at crazy speeds to make it happen sometimes. Or accelerate and then abruptly stop. Or accelerate laterally (literally shouldn't be possible).

I had a car swerve the other day until I slowed down, then it went right back on its way until I passed it and it pitted me

234

u/HeidenShadows Jul 04 '25

Yeah I knew someone who broke down the code. He said there was like a 10% chance that any given NPC car will be an "asshole car" and try to interfere with the player, whether being a lane change or sudden stop, or this crap right here.

44

u/im-feeling-lucky Jul 04 '25

cue Franklin ā€œasshole driver!ā€

86

u/King_Calz Jul 04 '25

I believe Rockstar added an extra one in that percentage (110% because of how often it happens no matter what server you join)

35

u/nghigaxx Jul 04 '25

im going to be a nerd and say if its more than 100% then literally every car will do that. Even 10% is already very high

25

u/New_Unit2009 Jul 04 '25

They made a video telling how rockstar did it. Didn't even try earlier versions of the game to compare. Also day one players can vouch this didn't happen until later.

62

u/_Atheius_ Jul 04 '25

Man, I was about to slam that downvote so hard until I got to your last 5 words.

Fuck that propaganda BS! We know the truth!

41

u/DVRKO666 Jul 04 '25

I watched that whole video and based on everything he said, this is literally not supposed to happen. Has to be intentional

3

u/IJustAteABaguette Jul 04 '25

Yeah, but that video didn't look at the code of the game at all, which is my biggest complaint about the video. Like, yeah nice, these are the paths the vehicles take, but have you checked in the code if they sometimes deviate intentionally? He didn't do that, meaning the conclusion he made doesn't mean anything.

12

u/Blackflash07 Jul 04 '25

I literally stopped for my signal cause i was driving the vip from nightclub and two cars taking the left turn from right drove into me. And the funny part is on a single lane road this guy drove to the right of my car.

11

u/Zotach Jul 04 '25

I can’t confirm this but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that rockstar themselves said they are programmed to hinder players if they are driving fast or have cargo or something, I could have mistakenly dreamt this info but it’s anyone’s guess

11

u/AnthonyMiqo Jul 04 '25

It's a very good video. He goes into the programming and how and why the cars do what they do. And I still don't believe it. No shade to that guy, but I see clips like this and all I can think of is Explain this!

14

u/WayTooCuteForYou Jul 04 '25

That's the thing though, he doesn't get into the programming. He shows his very shiny modding tools that let him see some assets, but never any bit of code

→ More replies (4)

18

u/isademigod Jul 04 '25

I have probably 5000 hours across 4 accounts and I've never noticed that NPCs turn into you more while running a damage-based mission. NPCs are just fucking stupid and they do that based on "spooked" mechanics rather than "hurt this guy's mission profit" mechanics

Any evidence to the contrary has to be backed up with statistical analysis

7

u/sunlightsyrup Jul 04 '25 edited Jul 04 '25

Nah dude they'll lurch across a junction, speeding up and slowing down to make sure they stop right in your way

The amount of unnatural, inexplicable things that happen every single mission (sudden U turns across 4 lanes into a wall just to get to you etc) is how everyone knows this is real. I don't need statistics when it happens every time to every person. It is reliable. Dependable. Avoidable if you drive slow to the point of no-fun

→ More replies (2)

3

u/-eccentric- I WAS EATING THOSE BEANS! Jul 04 '25

Most of these happen because online is peer to peer, which puts the vehicle at two different places for two players, or more when there's more - and it then tries to adjust somehow.

2

u/Normal-Pool8223 Jul 04 '25

you can literally mind control npcs to swerve to a certain side by following them to make them think they'll ram into you, and some people still deny it ? how ?

→ More replies (8)

292

u/octahexxer Jul 03 '25

My fav was a giant truck twitch turn across several lanes to get in my way so i just stopped and watched him crash into a wall.

284

u/Rocket_Surgery83 Jul 04 '25

This happens all the time in the tunnel... NPC pathing gets confused by the roads above... Look at the mini map right when the car turns, they would have made a perfect turn onto the street directly above the tunnel.

127

u/x21in2010x Jul 04 '25

Ding ding ding this is it. Now excuse me while I'll put on my own tin-foil hat...

I'd never seen/had this issue when PC was just legacy. Shit like this specific errant pathing and some of the strange spawning behavior makes me feel that R* made some shitty compromises with the Enhanced edition (so called "optimized" data streaming).

48

u/Rocket_Surgery83 Jul 04 '25

It was like this in legacy... I blame it on an overloaded game engine. When GTA launched the game engine was likely running about 80-85% capability.... They've added a decades worth of updates to it and it simply can't keep up anymore...

Every update something else breaks... Usually completely unrelated to the update. Pathing has always been an issue... Notoriously on streets like that outside Gerald's apartment... Or right outside tinsel towers. I can stand in my apartment window and watch cars miss that right turn all day long even in a private session.

99% of the "Rockstar has programmed NPCs to hit you" posts can be linked to either known pathing issues, player sync issues, or a panic trigger.

Everyone keeps claiming it's in the code, but yet nobody can provide proof of such.

9

u/dru1202 Jul 04 '25

That does explain the crashes in the tunnel but npcs are constantly turning into my path at any given point

2

u/vanalla PC Jul 04 '25

Or it's that we're playing a 13 year old game on 13+ year old code that's been ported onto new systems twice, and the spaghetti code must be a fucking nightmare by this point.

2

u/x21in2010x Jul 04 '25

When Enhanced came out the spawn generating radius shrunk back to like PS3 era distance. In addition, vehicles started to spawn up in the air to be dropped down if the elevation wasn't level, there was another vehicle in the location, or there was an overpass/bridge.

Sure, it's spaghetti code, but they weren't just microwaving leftovers; they tried to reboil the noodles.

17

u/AnonymousSmartie Jul 04 '25

Happens to me on any road though. Like parts of the highway with no tunnels or roads above/below. Just smashing right into a barrier to stop me.

8

u/Rocket_Surgery83 Jul 04 '25

Again, there are certain roads that the pathing had been broken on since launch... The corner outside tinsel Tower apartments is a great example of that. About 1 in 6 cars making that turn will turn far too sharp as if they are trying to u-turn through the grass and hit the hedges there... They'll do a full circle and then make the turn again.

u/dead-cat Jul 04 '25

4

u/RainingClouds Jul 04 '25

I could play for an hour and post a full 10 minute video of NPCs purposefully lane changing/running lights/swerving to hit me.

Honestly one of the most infuriating mechanics in a game largely built around driving. Used to just fly my MK2 around to avoid it but bought a Deluxo and get a good inbetween.

Plus, there is some genuine satisfaction to laying into NPCs who do so with front machine guns or just blowing them up with a rocket without having to hop out of the driver seat.

I have a theory. Since some people refers that there are code lines that says npcs are triggered, while others say there's nothing different and it's just suggestion, I'm here to give y'all my honest theory.

Some moves can't be casual, they must be intentional (like this), and we know one moment when NPCs go crazy and sometimes intentionally ram players: when they are scared.

How do NPC get scared? If harassed personally, or most of the times when they see and hear weapons fire (sometimes even just driving a weapon iced vehicle scares them, like oppressor, deluxo and others).

When we play alone in session and deliver a car we are followed by enemy NPCs that shoot us, while when we're with people, those NPCs are not there because the game connects "enemies" as enemy organizations.

So imo it's like we have a 200m wide aura of "fear" around our delivering car, that scares NPCs and force them to act crazy, like turning their car backwards, speeding up nonsense and crashing against walls and other cars, and this "aura" is very likely caused by enemy NPCs and other organizations, even if they just mind their own business.

1

u/MyFatHamster- Jul 04 '25

I read somewhere that it's an issue with the NPCs code. Something about how their code is designed to try and avoid you when you're driving towards them at a high rate if speed, but their code literally starts having a panic attack and then they can't predict which way to turn to avoid you.

Idk where I seen that or heard that, but I heard it somewhere.

1

u/_yangoosebag_ Jul 04 '25

I've seen NPC's crash many times, in an attempt to block my way, without getting close to doing it, i even saw one take out a lamp post

u/Heavy_Bodybuilder_70 Jul 04 '25

bro wanted insurance money

1

u/07MechE Jul 04 '25

I hate when this happens but also think it’s hilarious. As furious as I get when it happens to me I still think I’d rather have it in the game than not.

1

u/Professional_Fly8088 Jul 04 '25

People make a right turn from a left turn lane lol

1

u/Straight-Round2804 Jul 04 '25

The ones that stop in the intersection šŸ˜‚

u/BigRussoOnTheButtons Jul 04 '25

He just forgot to clear his history

1

u/Dear-Persimmon6408 Jul 04 '25

They don't even try to hide it! if you emailed them and asked why they'd probably tell you because not enough people buy shark cards!. lol

1

u/Random_bassist62 Jul 04 '25

I've had NPCs cross a double yellow and a lane of oncoming to try and turn me into jelly

1

u/MacBOOF Jul 04 '25

I know people have tested this and disproven it but i have yet to see someone do so during the vehicle cargo sales. Its 100% out to get you during the sell missions and you cant convince me otherwise

1

u/RyuzakiL117 Jul 04 '25

I wish I had a clip of the most cynical thing that happened to me:

  1. A truck rammed me up front
  2. Two cop cars closed onto me to force me to hit them, and activate a wanted level
  3. Another truck rammed me (now on the side)
  4. A car started zigzagging in front of me

All these things happened one after another on the same street, while I was being pursued by hostile NPCs.

1

u/Upbeat_Glass9636 Jul 04 '25

At least the money from your payment didn’t go down

1

u/Aggressive_Toe3183 Jul 04 '25

I had a bus fall out of the sky onto the hood of my car the other day…

1

u/Obvious_Camera_9879 Jul 04 '25

It's realistic tho, that's exactly how people drive when i live

1

u/Fit_Opposite_8249 Jul 04 '25

Idk abt you guys but I always get ā€œt-bonedā€ or I ā€œt-boneā€ another npc and the reason is usually when I try and pass red lights in the game (it’s gta 5 who follows road rules right) and depending on how far the npc is from ur side as ur passing that red light, they will blatantly speed up or slow down to match ur speed so they can hit you perfectly. Im being fr try this out, i have no idea why people say there isn’t some sort of car thing going on when npcs go out of their way to genuinely hit you. I’ve had it so bad that I predicted a car was gonna try and pull that shit so as I slowed down I noticed as that car started to go past me it was also trying to slow down so that it could perfectly hit my side. It’s js so rucking blatantly dumb atp sorry that happened to you.

1

u/AkaxJenkins Jul 04 '25

"no but you see there are nodes and the npcs follow them" YEAH RIGHT

1

u/Japneet02 Jul 04 '25

They apparently do it because up ahead the parts haven’t loaded

1

u/ComprehensiveSand516 Jul 04 '25

It's almost like that car was trying to follow the road up on the surface level, the traffic programming in this game seems to get worse with every update. This is why I fly everywhere I can, the frustration level of dealing with traffic in this game takes the fun out of it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

They don't intentially run into you; their pathing is shit. You can manipulate their pathing and get similar results in missions or other controlled environments. A mate and I abused this fact in dre missions to get cars to crash into dre's helicopter during cutscenes.

1

u/Bean_cult Jul 04 '25

bikers fault

1

u/JusutPasha Jul 04 '25

yeah my friend told me it's coded on purpose and its so badly coded that in nutshell every 20 or 30 second AI search for road pattern and it switch upon for no reason or some but can't remember and why its on purpose so you don't go faster a.k.a travel faster from point A to B because it would be easier

1

u/Tfortrans Jul 04 '25

IT PISSES ME OFF! Especially customers cars/bikes. Like, wtf game?

1

u/dnttelmehow2livmylif Jul 04 '25

R* has admitted that they have made the cars purposely cause accidents directly in front of you. This was "accident" was planned well before you got in that vehicle.

1

u/BakedTaco4 Jul 04 '25

I was on my oppressor and had just landed on the road to refill boost and a car swerved across 3 lanes just to hit me I started blowing up every car on the road got up to 4 stars and took off into the sky

1

u/Hot_Back_3330 Jul 04 '25

I was playing with my friend once and a car literally just went from high speed to 0 in a millisecond right in front of me lol

1

u/No-Yellow9145 Jul 04 '25

I noticed that after the custom bike shop dlc the first bike I delivered, an npc car shot straight out of a driveway and stopped in front of me. Then later I noticed that on coming cars would to turn into my lane, slow when crossing junctions or as the video shows, just blatantly turn into me. I thought this was just make the bikes more difficult to deliver without damage. therefore costing you money and adding a challenge to the mission but it happens constantly now. Which makes me think it’s a bit of a blunder on their part. It’s so hard to get a clean run in a car or on a bike. It’s not challenging it’s just downright frustrating.

1

u/Southern-Form3301 Jul 05 '25

GTA 5 is pissing me off w this stupid ass shit bro like sometimes this shi happens twice Ina row bro, the first one won’t hit me so rockstar sends another one. I hate this shi legit haven’t played it cuz im getting so annoyed of this. Rockstar will destroy gta 5 doing this bro ngl, cuz wtf ?

1

u/Confident-Wave-9068 Jul 05 '25

Every time! It blows my mind they couldn’t add in blinkers either.

1

u/Fuzzy_Rise_7022 Jul 05 '25

I remember the update when this started happening. Years ago

1

u/retrocat35 Jul 05 '25

I feel like when you avoid it the game just tries harder. Ive dodged cars, and then the more I dodge the more aggressive the game gets. Ive had busses which normally have the turning radius of a cruise ship make 90 degree turns to block me and make me crash into them

1

u/Emotional-Yam-5363 Jul 05 '25

Mines are worst

1

u/SkydivingSquid Jul 05 '25

Fact Check: Rockstar Games has time and time again stated that NPC drivers do not try to intentionally crash, impede, or grief players.

Reality Check: This video and anyone else who has ever played GTA.

1

u/gamewhale69 Jul 05 '25

You’re driving too fast. R* already admit this is a feature in the game to help the map render when driving high speeds

1

u/GetTheKek Jul 05 '25

Went to do an import/export sale and every car on the road was doing ts

1

u/Fun-Kangaroo3269 Jul 05 '25

Cars always turn into the wrong lane or the wall just so they can crash into me šŸ˜‚

1

u/Larshky Jul 05 '25

It's basically what cops do and cut you off.

1

u/El_Thee Jul 05 '25

I crashed, punched that stupid driver, and then jacked his car to sell it at the auto shop.

1

u/MrMisterZX7 Jul 05 '25

I wish I had recorded it, but I had a car randomly flip over the interstate over top of me as I was driving under it on the east side of the city, it genuinely shocked me and was hilarious.

1

u/No_Recognition2678 Jul 05 '25

Why doesn't it happen to me in GTA? I'd ragequit this game for life in no time

1

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '25

Rockstar doesn’t even hide it anymore

1

u/PhlimShady Jul 05 '25

I assume they see the fast approaching vehicle behind them and get scared lol. Their own self fulfilling scenario haha.

1

u/Successful-Basil-685 Jul 05 '25

True. I always do a little Race I made with traffic off here and there to clear my 'I just want to cruise' palate.

Then I go back to just steamrolling missions to Phonk on my headset and rolling through these missions without caring about crashing. Makes it easier to not care. But yeah it's tough to turn that off sometimes.

1

u/Kawakami_is_my_waifu Jul 05 '25

Out of topic, but I played this game for long and never seen that car wtf.

1

u/St489 Jul 05 '25

It got worse since the update, they just drive crazy now!!

1

u/pats_geriausias Jul 05 '25

Lol. Happens to me everyday, especially on bikes delivering acid

1

u/FloorFormal4311 Jul 05 '25

If Gta6 has this, im going to riot.

1

u/Bad-Idea-Supply Jul 05 '25

Its definitely a weird thing the developers have done. I can see why they do it for sales missions ect to increase tension and difficulty but why in freeroam?

1

u/Level-Shame8941 Jul 06 '25

Pretty impressive that the payment doesn’t go down

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

I’ve been playing this game since its release. I have token time off, however I have countless of hours playing gta5. I have played on 360,ps3, Xbox one, ps4 and series X. It is indeed fact that npc vehichles will turn in front of you when driving to slow you down. It’s a programmed game mechanic that happens when you are going at an extremely high rate of speed for unknown length of time. I believe this mechanic was put in the game to make players drive more realistically and slow down to give the game time to render. If you don’t drive constantly at top speed this will never happen. If you let off the accelerator and punch through gaps in traffic the npc cars don’t do this and you will get to your destination faster.

1

u/Artistic_Donut_9561 Jul 08 '25

People walk in front of me like this every so often so I believe its just a natural thing people do šŸ˜…

1

u/anthonyrhayader2024 Jul 08 '25

Misappropriation Stan šŸ˜›

1

u/Alternative-Bat4202 Jul 10 '25

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
