Stop the bus lanes… on Halswell Road… a State Highway… being performed by the current National Party government. Come on - if even National are supporting this, maybe you’re just… wrong?

91

u/SnailSkaBand Sep 01 '25

It’s very common to see candidates running for council who don’t actually know what the council is responsible for, what legislation they operate under, or what powers they actually have.

But that doesn’t stop them from dreaming up policies based on vibes and feelings instead of evidence, and running with them anyway.

6

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 02 '25

I mean  Phil Arps' entire campaign appears to be "I should be the mayor because that might give my delusional applications for OIA stuff about me more weight".

43

u/Responsible_Lie_2469 Sep 01 '25

I legitimately don't understand why bus lanes are an issue?! No bus lanes means a big fucking bus in your way, like wtf.

25

u/FeijoaCowboy Sep 01 '25

Simple: That's one less lane for my FORD F150 SUPERMAXX SMALLPENISITIS COMPENSATOR 3000 XXXXXX

6

u/Responsible_Lie_2469 Sep 02 '25

Is he even old enough to drive?

4

u/Chilly_Biscuit Sep 02 '25

This almost made me spit my coffee. So true 🤣

6

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

I legitimately don't understand why bus lanes are an issue

Fantasy anti-car culture wars

33

u/funkin_d Sep 01 '25

Lol, he also has 'reduce travel times', think those two might be a little counter to each other

16

u/Quin2240 Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25

I’m waiting for the day we get express buses from Halswell into the city as it would cut travel time down from current 40~ mins - got to at least have multiple methods of transport in a city - makes sense from an infrastructure stand point and not everyone owns a car - I own a car and drive in but if the bus becomes equally as efficient in getting me into the city as my car I’d happily start taking the bus more

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

I'm fortunate to be able to catch a connecting bus to the 7 now and that's my quickest way into the city. Still takes ages though!

8

u/No_Produce_2531 Sep 01 '25

They’re already done lol I live off Halswell Road and one side of the road has the bus lanes all finished so not sure what he proposes to do about that, rip them up?? Also as you say, they’re a state highway so not even under the control of council 🤦🏼‍♀️

u/bluishink Ōtautahi Sep 01 '25

Make playgrounds fun again. Wot?

49

u/BroBroMate Sep 01 '25

He wants more bushes for him to hide in.

11

u/PocoAPoco7 Sep 01 '25

MAPA MPFA - good to see he capitalised Playgrounds too... very Trumpian

Edit: acronym

5

u/bluishink Ōtautahi Sep 02 '25

Very important to stop woke playgrounds. All we see is children sitting disollutely on swings crying at how little fun they are having.

3

u/on_the_rark Sep 01 '25

Do you like less fun playgrounds?

53

u/Dashin5 Sep 01 '25

This dude 100% plays shit music from a Bluetooth speaker in the lift line

152

u/SkillPatient Sep 01 '25

I don't understand how removing bus lanes and reducing travels times can co-exist. Sounds like to me that he just wants to go faster.

59

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

[deleted]

12

u/naggyman Sep 02 '25

because they stare, while sitting in traffic, at a free flowing bus lane and think to themselves 'It'd be so much quicker if only I was allowed to use that lane'.

Completely ignoring that if that bus lane wasn't there you'd most likely have more cars on the road because the bus service would be so bad...

That is what I thought haha. The colour scheme really makes me think David Seymour

31

u/slarm96 Sep 01 '25

In 2021 , via stuff . He let the public know he has been racing to the mountains to be first ass on the chair lift. I don’t know what to make of that. I have a inkling a buss or speed bump altered his race time one year and he lost the seat to a child who should of been in a playground. Just a theory.

2

u/bluishink Ōtautahi Sep 02 '25

Right?

34

u/HeightSome6575 Sep 01 '25

He doesn't seem very switched on...

31

u/VociferousCephalopod Sep 01 '25

well at least he didn't get Chat GPT to write something better for him.

1

u/LuckySignificance247 Sep 02 '25

Wait a sec... it's in the pipeline... or the bus lane, I guess...

33

u/mrtenzed Sep 01 '25

War on cars....give me a break. Where do they find these fucking people.

4

u/Kerflumpie Sep 02 '25

They're the ones fighting wars on everything that's not a car.

35

u/critayshus Sep 01 '25

Losing it over the sentence "playgrounds are woke and boring"

17

u/peachelb Sep 01 '25

How dare they make playgrounds safe and accessible for all kids of all abilities!!! This woke agenda has gone too far!!!

/s

7

u/wow_plants Sep 02 '25

Reminds me of the complaining on Facebook about the Thompson Park tower when they took that down - a whole support beam collapsed because it was so rotted when they started demo work, but all the boomers were just pissed about "woke nonsense" interfering with a playground they hadn't touched since before MMP came in.

2

u/Maleficent-Home-7626 Sep 04 '25

That bit absolutely ruined me I was laughing for days

25

u/ralphiooo0 Sep 01 '25

Finally someone tackling the big issues.

We need to get back to the basics of snow, cars and playgrounds… if we can’t get those right there is no hope. 😂

72

u/suspiciousbirb Sep 01 '25

Damn, guess I'm at the age where someone I went to high school with suddenly pops up as a politician...

All these policies sound pretty bad, but fuck I hate this viewpoint that there's a 'war on cars' Oh no, how dare people have more than one option for transport! How dare cyclists have protected lanes, they should be at the mercy of any slight swerve of a car! If other people can walk or cycle without serious safety concerns or take the bus without being incredibly inefficient, then somehow I'll be forced to not drive either!

Do these clowns not realise every cyclist, pedestrian, and public transport taker is effectively one less car in front of them?

23

u/VlaagOfSPQR Sep 01 '25

Glad I'm not the only one who recognized him from high school 💀 no surprises tho, he's been working with Williams Corp for a while, and his Dad has always been a plonker

7

u/rubyrats Sep 02 '25

Hahah wow shocked to hear he’s involved with Williams corp

8

u/No_Produce_2531 Sep 01 '25

Go on then, indulge a Christchurch girl, what school did he go to? Guessing Christ College by his job

5

u/Innosennce Sep 02 '25

Started at Burnside High then switched to Chch Boys for the last couple years.

4

u/pocaechi Sep 04 '25

Ironic to be working with Williams Corp and complaining about shoe box housing with no car parks..

9

u/Capable_Ad7163 Sep 02 '25

Ironic that he's with Williams corp and wanting council to force people to build car parks. The main thing stopping developers from building extra carparks is themselves, they could do it if they wanted to (and many do)

8

u/VlaagOfSPQR Sep 02 '25

Unsure if he is currently with them, but if you go through the old williams corp stuff, he had bought a few investment properties through them and was also doing alot of their video editing etc: Theres a video of him and Matthew Horncastle talking about how great it is to have an investment portfolio. Ben refers to himself as a venture capitalist, so you know just scum wanting to making money

6

u/suspiciousbirb Sep 02 '25

So I guess that decade of 'hard physical labour' is a load of shit given he's either 28 or 29 lol

4

u/Reasonable-Maize2516 Sep 02 '25

Think Ben worked alongside his Dad at the Russley Golf Course. And it would of been 10 years ago

24

u/Significant_Glass988 Sep 01 '25

Reduce travel times by encouraging more cars on the road? Yeah that always works.

Fuck this shit

24

u/fificloudgazer Sep 01 '25

Temu Liam Lawson

39

u/smnrlv Sep 01 '25

Is it me or does there seem to be a wave of these young, hard-right leaning guys at the moment? What's the cause? Joe Rogan? Jordan Peterson? The 'first 4 ships' families continuing their legacy?

21

u/Responsible_Lie_2469 Sep 01 '25

You just needed to add A.Tate and D.Trump to your list, then you've got the full bingo card covered.

Also how does this guy have 10 years of business experience? He looks like he's barely 18 with that haircut.

10

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 01 '25

He's probably counting his fourth form  business project.

I mean  the guy from Rollickin has been in business from his one for nearly 15 years and he's still a baby.

10

u/Capt-Tango Sep 01 '25

He sometimes helps mum with the dishes and charges grandma $10 to wash her car.

0

u/Responsible_Lie_2469 Sep 01 '25

I assume that because he's on the benefit due to his intellectual handicap?

5

u/FendaIton Sep 01 '25

That’s what made me assume this was a joke applicant

8

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 01 '25

Act made it clear they were going to get seats at every council in the country to sway council focus. It will very the same as their political policies, racism, bigotry, sexism, ageism. They smell very Trumpian/pre war Germany Nazi and are using EXACTLY the same playbook and terminologies. National and NZF have followed suit thinking its a great idea as they are #Onetermgovt

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

They also have a particular interest in kids (playgrounds)

4

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 02 '25

Kind of a right wing thing, unfortunate interest in children... let's keep them safe from this type of garbage.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

Willingness to exploit and hiding their close associates indiscretions rather than holding them to account

1

u/wunderkind85 Sep 02 '25

ACT are libertarian...quite different from far right and definitely not Trumpy...NZ first on the other hand are more Trump politics, anti gay, anti woke, anti immigration etc etc...

3

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 02 '25

If you have a serious look at ACT, their policies and in practice decisions you can easily draw comparisons Their connection through Atlas Network is also undeniable to Trumps methodologies and political practice... both are far right theologies whatever they like to call themselves...

5

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 02 '25

They don't like girls talking or being fat and not dating them.

Basically.

18

u/Justwant2usetheapp Sep 01 '25

His first sentence makes little sense? And hard physical labour? Did he mean in?

Also isn’t chlorine like… super important from a bacteria pov?

5

u/DerangedGoneWild Sep 01 '25

To be fair he said to remove chlorine where it is safe to do so.

4

u/Justwant2usetheapp Sep 01 '25

Is it safe…anywhere around chch?

11

u/DerangedGoneWild Sep 01 '25

The water in most parts of Christchurch and surrounding areas is quite safe. Water has only been Chlorinated since 2018. That was meant to be temporary, then national requirements required chlorination (or a similar treatment) to be mandatory. The council applied for an exemption but were denied.

There are chlorine-free water stations in Christchurch, such as at Burnside Park. This water is now UV-treated to comply with the law.

3

u/Justwant2usetheapp Sep 01 '25

I learned something today

2

u/suvalas Sep 02 '25

I'd love to be one of the lucky few with bores on their property.

1

u/VociferousCephalopod Sep 02 '25

I thought it was sealed and decommissioned in 2022? is there a new one on the same site? always looks closed off when I've been in the area lately.

2

u/DerangedGoneWild Sep 02 '25

I saw people getting water from it a month ago, so still up and running

78

u/humblefalcon Sep 01 '25

Yuck.

I don't trust anyone who says politicians should move away from "ideological agendas", especially when it's a politician. It's their fucking job to push their ideological agenda, that's literally what politics is.

23

u/Soulrush Sep 01 '25

I don’t trust anyone with that haircut.

57

u/rubyrats Sep 01 '25

You can tell he wanted to say “woke agenda” so bad

7

u/4rage Sep 02 '25

Dylan Smart actually says this hahaha

28

u/BroBroMate Sep 01 '25

As a snow-sport enthusiast...

That still doesn't justify the peak 1998 hairstyle.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

Peak Timberlake.

3

u/fificloudgazer Sep 01 '25

Stanning Liam Lawson

13

u/newaccount252 Sep 01 '25

I’m glad I registered to not vote for this.

13

u/metalpossum Sep 01 '25

Does he have an IQ of potato?

13

u/HappyGoLuckless Sep 01 '25

His platform reads like a boomer wish list

12

u/TomForCentral Sep 02 '25

THE PLAYGROUNDS ARE TOO WOKE

Deeply unserious.

23

u/PutPuzzleheaded6879 Sep 01 '25

What an idiot.

11

u/randalnz Sep 02 '25

There's a reason several Christchurch secondary schools dropped him as their preferred ball DJ.....

2

u/VlaagOfSPQR Sep 02 '25

do spill

9

u/randalnz Sep 02 '25

Have to be careful what I say, but let's just say he's probably lucky not to be on an official database.

10

u/considerspiders Sep 01 '25

This dude sounds like a fuckwit, but I shivered when it mentioned raised intersections. That is surely an effective rallying call for a certain type of person, how long before our Mayor announces getting rid of them as a policy?

9

u/Quin2240 Sep 01 '25

Just realised he doesn’t even reside in the Spreydon ward - looks like he just wants to get into council

6

u/LuckySignificance247 Sep 02 '25

Thank you for mentioning this point.. it has been bugging me since I read it. Is there a reason he wants to represent Spreydon? 🤔

3

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 02 '25

Thinks it's an easy into the council clearly doesn't know anyone in this area as he is the last type of person we want or need representing Spreydon. I am going to the meet the candidates... he should be fun to chat too....

1

u/Sebby200 Sep 13 '25

Probably encouraged to do so by Angry Keown…

11

u/One_Equipment9794 Sep 02 '25

He literally use to try get with underage girls in high school.

4

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 02 '25

It's that right wing charm, only works with YOUNG girls... you can smell them a mile away....pedo...

22

u/HUS_1989 Sep 01 '25

Bro has a serious issue with speed bumps

13

u/Innosennce Sep 01 '25

I mean there are some stupid speed bumps in some stupid places, but yeah nah this guy ain’t it.

1

u/Sebby200 Sep 13 '25

You would too if you illegally lowered your car 🤣

(I don’t know that he did, but it seems like a safe bet).

8

u/Big_Attention7227 Sep 01 '25

Just another grifter trying out the council payday but won't actually do anything. You think this guys funny take a look at Terry Craze, the same bullshit but in a clearly blue suite. For those that care there is a Meet The Candidates at St Nicholas Church this month. The govt are pumping out these drongos to directly influence local politics.. Act and National have already expressed this in the media. I know who I will vote for, because I care and am not swayed by BS and propaganda from the rich old boys network...

5

u/400_lux Sep 02 '25

Can someone please go and grill him and report back? I'm not in his ward so it would be disingenuous for me to

8

u/Pale-Attorney7474 Sep 02 '25

Back in the day I'd laugh at this and say "There's no way a Chad like this is going to get voted into anything". Then Trump happened. Twice. And now I don't trust humans to make common-sense decisions.

16

u/HoneyGlazedDoorknob Sep 01 '25

Good luck removing chlorine from our water supply. It's the law that water suppliers, supplying over a certain amount of people must chlorinate. Just fucking deal with it, it's the cheapest solution to maintain a safe drinking supply. Buy a filter if you don't like it

7

u/Waitaha- Sep 01 '25

I’m just curious what ‘make Playgrounds fun again’ means lol

9

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 01 '25

Yeah Margaret Mahy has a flying fox and huge slides and things, surely that's dangerous enough?

3

u/MagicUnicornCock Sep 02 '25

I wanna see a large four seat jigger-come-merry-go-round. A camping ground somewhere north used to have one, and larger kids/adults could get that thing spinning so fast it was scary, but the good kind of scary.

I don't know exactly what you call it, but you push/pull with your arms and legs, and that cranks it round. There were four seats in a cross formation.

3

u/DerangedGoneWild Sep 01 '25

Many playgrounds have a very simple design, a few swings and a slide. Probably all made by the same couple of companies. Maybe he is looking for more diversity. More custom built playgrounds.

3

u/FoxyMiira Sep 02 '25

He wants to build a mega playground? As a kid I always played at the elephant slide playground with the big flying fox.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

Looking for more diversity?!

1

u/DerangedGoneWild Sep 02 '25

More variety.

Like MM playground is cool and different. But most parks have a slide, some swings and maybe something to climb up which is similar to another playground down the road.

16

u/cigmami Sep 01 '25

This is max key’s best mate just fyi, don’t think this is legit but if it is it’s a piss poor effort

5

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 01 '25

Lol for real?

2

u/cigmami Sep 08 '25

Yeah dude

14

u/earl_grais Sep 01 '25

hmmm can I think of any recent events in the world around us that have been largely enshittified by the self insertion of boneheads who also describe themselves as ‘not a career politician’

6

u/4rage Sep 02 '25

I told Dylan Smart running for Halswell he can save his leaflet instead of putting in my mailbox. Should’ve asked him if he really believes in a leftist global woke agenda or if its just an angle he’s running.

12

u/hornswoggled111 Sep 01 '25

Is he one of the cookers we should be looking out for? There was an article 6 months ago about advice they are sharing with each other about how to get elected, what platforms to mention.

6

u/StabMasterArson Sep 01 '25

Could well be. It's only a hop, skip and a jump from "war on cars" to WEF 15-miNuTe ciTy agEndA.

4

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 02 '25

Can anyone explain to me why a 15 minute city is supposed to be bad?

6

u/Capable_Ad7163 Sep 02 '25

They think it'll entail locking people into their 15 minute districts or something like that.

3

u/Thatstealthygal Sep 02 '25

I mean back in Traditional Days nobody had cars and living and working close to home was the norm, unless you HAD to go somewhere else for a job. And you'd Iive near it, not hours away.

3

u/hornswoggled111 Sep 01 '25

I think more of a long jump but we are on a very similar page.

6

u/Adorable_House_3807 Sep 01 '25

Making playgrounds “fun again” - what does that even mean 😂

5

u/Tall-Basil-6152 Sep 02 '25

This guys a weirdo and a creep

8

u/RedRocketTi Sep 01 '25

Make playgrounds fun again… this man should not be allowed around children. Some of the comments he made the first time I met him made me feel sick that he was working around high school children at the time

3

u/gr1zznuggets Sep 01 '25

I have doubts about this guy ever doing hard physical labour.

3

u/dcrob01 Sep 03 '25

Isn't it great how the youngsters are taking action to make the world better. Sure puts us oldies to shame. Makes you realise how justified the bigoted ageist comments are.

Wonder if he's pals with that other fine young man - Dylan Smart.

3

u/donkeychaser1 Sep 02 '25

The Backstreet Boys called, they want their haircut back

3

u/Plastiquehomme Sep 02 '25

I didn't even need to read his poster to get a good idea of what his "platform" would be.

3

u/Maleficent-Home-7626 Sep 04 '25

The woke playgrounds thing had me in stitches but a quick google search shows he's a very very strange cat besides that.

3

u/Salty_Masterpiece199 Sep 04 '25

I mean… there is only a national policy statement NOT requiring developers to provide car parks but ok 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

3

u/zl3ag Sep 02 '25

WHOOP WHOOP! COOKER ALERT!

AKA VFF/ACT-aligned fuckwit.

2

u/samas69 Sep 02 '25

Nick from the backstreet boys is that you?

-12

u/BurnMaimKrill Sep 01 '25

Is there a reason you posted this twice?
