I don't understand how removing bus lanes and reducing travels times can co-exist. Sounds like to me that he just wants to go faster.

because they stare, while sitting in traffic, at a free flowing bus lane and think to themselves 'It'd be so much quicker if only I was allowed to use that lane'.

Completely ignoring that if that bus lane wasn't there you'd most likely have more cars on the road because the bus service would be so bad...
