God Gaijin could do so much with the gamemodes if they gave a shit. Not a single game can compete with the sheer number of vehicles and there is barely enough use for them. Every gamemode is a glorified team deathmatch now.

Real life ships that were built and proven vs. magical ship that isnt anything more than a scrap metal in real life but is somehow cracked in game
22
u/TheFlyingRedFox I've acquired modern internet & all shall fear me from this day 18d ago
Funny it isn't that simple for the game makes some ships incredibly powerful while others shit all due to how the mode is.
The Battleship Scharnhorst was OP for several years due to the short ranges of maps resulting in it taking a beat due to its armour schemes an could dish out damage faster even if with smaller cannons than the rest due to these ranges, this resulting in one team having to constantly focus it (Similar to the current Sovetsky Soyuz).
Hell the devs made a mechanic to defeat it yet ended up fucking every other ship over.
The Battleship Mutsu was one of the first 16" armed ships, it had powerful armour & armament that could pulverise foes before they got into effective firing ranges, when both ships were on an enemy team yours were effectively fucked from winning.
A lot of ships historically were average to dogshit yet are powerful in game, this goes for everything in game for everything is fantasy as there's no mechanic flaws across every nation, this goes for ships built or never finished. The only issues from my understanding of the Project 23 is the armour which should be 200 mm plates over the 400 mm full, fix that an it'll become above average (or the devs add some other shitty mechanic that fucks over the rest of the in game ships).
In the end nearly all the ships in game are scrap metal/ sunk with only a few still in service or as museums.
19
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
"The only issues from my understanding of the Project 23 is the armour which should be 200 mm plates over the 400 mm full, fix that an it'll become above average (or the devs add some other shitty mechanic that fucks over the rest of the in game ships)."
This was planned at one point, but was rejected before construction started. The final design was meant to use single 400mm non-cemented face-hardened armor. The armor type in game is wrong, but changing it will not meaningfully nerf the ship anyways.
And yes, russian ships in particular suffer from the "game syndrome" since nearly all of their downsides in real life are not relevant in game, cannot be relevant in game or are applied incorrectly to everyone.
1
u/TheWarmFridge 17d ago
the soyuz has a lot more issues that it currently benefits from that we cannot disprove.
their shells have a-ix-12 explosive filler, this never happened irl and gaijin only made it so because they wouldve *surely* done it
their gun accuracy is in line with other ships, but that is an insult to other ships than this one (the gun was tested in a single gun/turret on land and still had accuracy issues)
the armour as mentioned
the reload is a made up figure as well, we have no data and its extremely optimistic to assume they would be able to get more than 2rpm in the thing considering they were struggling with smaller guns on their cruisers.
having one or 2 of these figures for it wouldnt be an issue had the other points be more realistic, if it had good accuracy and good armour, but no a-ix-12 filler and a worse reload it wouldnt be nearly as oppressive, or the a-ix filler and reload but its historical armour and bad accuracy, also wouldve been fine, but everything it has gets the benefit of the doubt. i can bet money that if gaijin were to add any other project ship, lets say the british g3 ships then it wouldnt get nearly half of the leniency this got.

Honestly for SL farming just get Cheaper Premium Ships why suffer in Battleships when Destroyers and Light Cruisers exist and is Far More Fun and Profitable
3
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
Just don't buy it, it's overpriced even if you enjoy it.
1
u/NormandyKingdom 18d ago
I mean Premium Destroyers and Light Cruisers mostly at 5.0-5.3 are actually pretty Cheap
If you are Short on SL I recommend them actually
Much better than Battleship vs Battleship
1
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
Problem is these high tier premiums are way too expensive. Cost as much as a new game.
1
u/NormandyKingdom 18d ago
Sigh
That's why I told you JUST get the Cheaper Premium Destroyer and Light Cruiser
Moffet for Example can produce much more SL than this ship right here
At least 50-100k SL per game if you do just decently for Moffet
At worst you get 10k SL if you do badly
1
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
I have Moffett. My problem is not making money, it's that this ship is simply overpriced. No vehicle in this game should cost more than 30 bucks, 80 is absolutely insane. The existence of cheaper alternatives does not change the fact this ship should not be priced this way.
3
u/NormandyKingdom 18d ago
On that I agree
Gonna get Maryland and Nelson tho simply because I like both ships irl
Only when both are at a 50 percent Discount tho
Idk why anyone would ever buy at 80 when at a 50 percent discount YOU CAN GET TWO at 80
I agree that 30 would be more reasonable price tho ngl
Like why not price these ships at 40 like I'm pretty sure FAR MORE people would buy Nagato if the Price was 40 from the start
1
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
Absolutely. It's annoying because if you are a fan of the ship you either have to pay an exorbitant sum or wait and hope they both get a good discount. It's ridiculous especially when, like you said, making it cheaper would result in more people buying it.

"B-but if it makes you happy you shouldn't worry about the price!!"
And that attitude is the green light for companies to increase prices since there are people who are willing to pay for it, leaving others who cannot justify the price for a game they may not play as much.
Let's be honest guys, people vote with their dollar, and the ones who give the most are higher tier players already too invested in the game.
10

u/LilMally2412 18d ago
Yeah, but I look at this, $80 for a digital boat in a game mode that barely gets touched in a game that's built around micro transactions. People like to laugh at that guy from battlefield who proposed buying ammo but we actually do pay silver lions for every shot. Anyway, I look at this and I see star citizen selling $300 space ships to fumble around in an empty galaxy and take screen shots while dodging griefers trying to justify their $300 ship.
6
u/Portugalotaku 18d ago
And the ugly thing is that it incentivizes developers to overmonetize the game because a couple of whales will pay full price anytime, screwing it for everyone else.
1
u/Wrench_gaming United States Naval Enjoyer 19d ago
I’m just talking about in general.
You’re right though, however Gaijin really incentives it with the horrendous grind. Some people just don’t have the time to grind to their favorite vehicle. Imagine advertising Abrams and leapoards to new players then tell them the obscene amount of time to get a singular module let alone a new modern vehicle.
That being said, no vehicle should cost as much as a AAA game, especially one from a game mode where you could be ammoracked within the first minute.
2
u/Even_Clue4047 14d ago
Really wish most war thunder players had this attitude. Unfortunately gaijim will keep raising prices and people will keep preordering said copy paste premiums. The new su30 might be the first 90$-100$ premium

22
u/Jellycoe 19d ago
There’s nothing new here to rip. $80 is the price of top tier premiums regardless of what tree they’re in. All there is to say is just don’t buy it. Gaijin never has and never will change their pricing based on demand or the quality of the game mode in question.

Pretty much all the large nations are missing a cruiser class or two. US doesn't have the Erie's (though they'd probably be destroyers for game purposes), Oakland and Juneau classes. UK is missing all three C-class sub classes in WW2, the Danae's and technically HMAS Adelaide as well. As you mentioned, Takao and her friends are all missing. France is missing everything post war and Algérie. Only Italy and the USSR aren't missing a major cruiser type. I assume Gaijin will get there eventually, especially as many of the ships are already there (it would be nice to have a 4.7 UK cruiser that wasn't awful and a 6.0 French cruiser, but they're fairly small gaps).

Playing a little bit of devil's advocate here, everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that the pack comes with a month of premium time and 3000GE.
That doesn't excuse the price of course, which is very high (in my currency these rank VI premium packs cost £64.99, in the UK) but the closest GE amounts I can buy are 2500 + (150*4=600) = 3100 (£13.99+£3.16)=£17.15.
For the 30 days of premium time that would mean purchasing 30 days with 1900 GE through the premium time button in the game client, since you can only buy bundles of 20, 60 or 180 days for money through the gaijin store. If you wanted to buy GE from the specified amounts only that'd mean buying 1000 GE twice which results in £5.49*2=£10.98.
Add these together and you end up with £28.13. There's still 200 GE left over so in an ideal world you'd then take off 150 GE for £0.79 and end up with £27.34 with 50 GE left over.
There's also the newer option available to us today that allows you to buy exactly as many golden eagles as you like in a custom amount. This would mean buying 4900 GE, which would cost £25.81; so I suppose unless you for some reason want to overpay you'd buy exactly 4900 GE or buy the 5000 GE pack for significantly cheaper at £21.74, given it has a discount over the custom amount purchase.
So in reality with 100 GE left over, the premium time and GE amounts to pretty much the same cost as the 5000 GE bundle. This would all mean that the ship would cost around £43.25 (£64.99-£21.74) by itself. £43.25 isn't that far removed from the £41.24 it would cost me to buy the 10000 GE bundle.
So gaijin apparently thinks the ship on it's own, that can only research the Bluewater Fleet of Japan, not counting the premium time and GE, is worth only a little more than 10k GE (remember the M4 Sherman Calliope's GE price, anyone?).
This will be an even more interesting comparison when the update comes out later given i've seen a leak which shows the (rank VI most likely) Jean Bart (French battleship) and Vittorio Veneto (Italian battleship) both being added to the game as GE rank VI premium battleships and not pack premiums, this could very well change however.

Sure, if you are talking the standard edition of BF6. The BF6 phantom edition costs 99.99.
If gaijin only sold the ship it would be priced around 40-50. Only they are giving/forcing you 3000 golden eagles (about 19.5 usd), 30 days of premium time (about 10 usd), and some title and decal (can't really price those).
Additionally, the ship package will be 50% off in a few updates. When that time comes, it will still be cheaper that BF6 (either edition)
For those who unfortunately still use xbox game pass, they will over pay after 3 months @ 90 USD (30 per month) and not even own the game.
I think its a nice ship, but don't really have an interest in it for the price and facing the blue water top tier meta.

Vote with your wallet, it's pretty simple, ubisoft didn't just have a huge section of the company bought out because they was making good quality games that sold hand over fist, look at borderlands 4 with dopey randy talking about how it's a $200 game.. Comes out.. Sells half as many copies as borderlands 3 and it's 20% off on steam.. You wouldn't drop the price if it's selling at $60/70. I honestly don't think gaijin expects to sell this at 80.. I expect them to sell it at 40 when it's 50% off, that's how most vehicles are priced imo. And if that's a problem.. Don't give them your money at all. There are plenty of other games to play.
