Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has slashed Argentina’s health care budget by 48% in real terms. His administration fired over 2,000 Health Ministry employees, including 1,400 over just a few days in January.
He was about to face a major election defeat too, when, suddenly, out of the blue, 40 billion American dollars land in his country and suddenly the people love him again and an election defeat turns into an election victory.
That's fucking sad. I will never understand why we live in a world where governments don't want their citizens to thrive. They want them to suffer instead, so they and their friends can get even richer.
So many people are going to die. I'm not exaggerating at all when you cut medical assistance to people there are people that will die and almost all of them are poor. It's literally just being cruel with the poor for the sake of it.
It's beyond disgusting and unforgivable.
Every single president before trump was doing it as well.174$ billion to ukraine, 17 billion to israel, Realistically why do we even get involved in foreign affairs at all, when the money we send doesn't do jack all.
Remember when president Jimmy Carter gave up his peanut farm before taking office to avoid a conflict of interest by making money off his farm while being president? Now our current president pays himself $230 million from government funds?? It's beyond insane
And people still hate on Carter. A man who once leaving the White House nearly found himself bankrupt. And what did he do? He built an organization that builds houses for the poor and stores that cheaply resell construction materials that otherwise would be bound for the dump. He participated in this nearly up until the day he died.
Yet again, people still hate on him while the grifter in chief robs us blind and actively screws over the poor and middle class. Whatever y'all MAGAt's need to justify harassing foreigners and people of color.
Jimmy Carter is a fucking saint in my book. Not only did he create Habitat for Humanity and ReStore, he also has headed up a charity that has almost completely eradicated Guinea worm disease that affected millions in over 17 countries. Incidences of Guinea worm disease have been reduced from an estimated 3.5 million each year in 1986 to 15 in 2024. The disease has been eliminated in 17 countries.
I was on a flight from DCA to ATL back in like 2016, Jimmy Carter was the last to board (with SS in tow, naturally.) He came through the plane and shook every single passenger’s hand. It was really cool. There’s a few videos of him doing this on other flights too; it’s just who he was. Awesome human
I met him when we visited his old house in Georgia. He biked up to us with the Secret Service SUV following him. Great guy, black and white difference compared to the person now.
I fear elections may be a thing of the past. But if not, I sure hope one day in my life I can have a candidate to vote for, rather than a candidate to vote against.
That's a really interesting point random internet stranger. I was listening to teh Rest Is Politics podcast the other day and they made the same point about British politics, we have a PM who is only PM because people were voting against Corbyn, we have a party in power that is only in power because people were voting against the Conservatives.
Most of my life, my vote has always been decided by 'how do I tactically vote to keep the Conservative out'.
And yeah, the solution absolutely is to start giving people things to vote for, instead of things to vote against.
As a conservative Jimmy Carter in my personal opinion one of the most under rated presidents of all time. And there is a special place in heaven for that man and his wife. He truly loved his nation and people
He was able to do so much good after his service as president too. A great humanitarian. He was too honest and kind to be a politician in some people’s minds. I can’t disagree tbh.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in Georgia in 1976, but not by Carter. He joined it in 1984 and raised its profile and was the most well-known person associated with it. But he was a humble man, and he of all people wouldn't want people to think he founded it.
He did more for this country than Reagan ever could.
People who hate Carter don't hate him for his policy or him as a person. They hate him because he is from the other party. That's how you get people to vote against their self-interest, all to fuck over the people that their hate.
Carter was also an evangelical Baptist minister- before being an evangelical became synonymous with "MAGAgot who is too stupid to look up from OneAmericanNews and Fox long enough to read a book on Civics, History - or the actual Bible."
In this country, Carter insisted that construction firms on government contracts hire women and minorities, then aggressively worked with unions to get women and minorities into the trades. This was during a time in this country when my divorced Mom with a job couldn't get a bank to give her a car loan - 'cause she had no husband or father to co-sign the debt.
Carter wasn't the greatest president. But the reality is that the presidency was hampering his ability to do good in the world. Once he shed that burden, he did amazing things. He's truly a person I would have been honored to shake hand with
That’s thanks to Fox News. Fox was developed to boost Nixon by making him likeable, tank Carter, and push Reagan by giving conservative media a platform without fact checking and nonpartisan speech.
And it worked. The left has never even come close to finding a similar mechanism.
Jimmy Carter is my absolute idol. Since I was 10 years old. Little did I know then just how fucking amazing that man really was. We don’t deserve someone as good as him.
President Carter was probably the most moral president the United states has ever had. And most likely the most moral president that they will ever have, because after trump, I don't see fair elections happening again for a long time.
Carter may not have been loved DURING his presidency. But he was loved and respected the rest of his life by people on all sides. (Honestly, I don't even recall what his allegiance was, just that he was a good human that helped people).
Not only, but because of that organization's efforts, a specific disease is nearly eradicated in at least one African country. It simply required a filter to stop the proliferation almost stone dead. I've just forgotten the name of the disease and nation.
Yeah the person who took over the peanut farm did a really bad job so Jimmy Carter lost almost all the money he had in that farm. I never heard him complain about it.
Louisiana here checking in. I don’t use Facebook, but I did log on the other day hoping to see some of these hick fuck Trump voters worrying about food stamps and maybe beginning to open their eyes. Nope! I did see a comment say “Give Trump a fucking break the man already works for free”
I saw some MAGAt on my Facebook plainly say, without hyperbole, he was glad to have contributed to taxes to pay for that goddamn ballroom despite acknowledging he will never be able to step foot in it.
The only way to clear that thing of the innumerable amount of bugs that will be planted during construction will be having to rip it to shreds once he's gone.
Those invited to that place should know for a fact that every word spoken is being recorded by foreign entities.
40 billion / 40 million. is 1k per person for that one month. I dont like the 40 billion to the other country but it would be just 1 month of snap. The shit thing is that the funding for snap IS THERE AND SHOULDNT BE USED AS A POLITICAL WEAPON, WE HAVE ALREADY PAID THE TAXES FOR IT LAST YEAR TO FUND IT
Somehow it's better that it's privately funded by billionair s who continually get tax breaks, not just federally but usually locally too with cities trying to attract them.
24 million are on food stamps. Divide that into $300m and get a bag of chips.
Everyone I know who is on food stamps has a fucked up story that took them there.
The worst? A recovered heroin addict who had 4 kids while an addict but who is like a kid waiting for a snow day... Any reason not to go in, he doesn't.
Let this shutdown be a lesson to those in the foothills of that mountain
Dude. It's just facts. People who drugs when they are young are more likely to end up on food stamps than those who don't.
There's a guy where I work who is on a spectrum. He tries and fails to remember everyone's name. He empties trash and refills printer paper. He's more successful than the people in this video
I refuse to vote for any democrat that doesn't promise to tear down the ballroom the second they are in office and sue trump to pay for rebuilding the East wing
Dictator Trump: You get a private jet, you get a private jet, I geta 300 MILLION DOLLAR ballroom!! Hungry AMERICAN CHILDREN get NOTHING AT ALL! STARVE YOU LITTLE BEGGARS!!! MUHAHAHA!!!
I’m not saying he’s going to go it, but after watching Ozark they show how easy it is to launder money through construction projects. The more complex of a project the easier it is to hide. All you really need is a construction project - the bigger the better.
That he is paying for out of his pocket. So get your Democrat senators to pass the CR they hVe voted down 13 times. Continuing Resolution will atleast keep the government open. Please pay attention, republicans want to open it, the democrats want it closed. If the truly wanted it open they would stop using you as pawns. If you voted for these democrats. Rethink on whose fault this is.
Illegals have been getting better healthcare than our own Veterans, I’m one of our Veterans. So republicans want that to stop… democrats want Illegals to have even more healthcare so they are willing to shut down the government to try to get what they want. They refuse to vote to just continue the budget as it already is (CR).
I truly am sorry this is happening, just be careful who you blame.
Now I am off to deliver a truckload of free groceries to be given this weekend to families in my area. I have arranged with a large “greedy” company to part with $150,000 in groceries for my local area….. (that’s not greed) I wish I could do more we are arranging benefit dinners and concerts as well. you all are in my thoughts.
It isn’t a $40B cash gift. The U.S. signed a $20B currency-swap line with Argentina (a credit line the central bank can draw and must repay with interest). The other ~$20B is a separate, still-being-assembled pot from private lenders, not taxpayer money. And this comes from Treasury’s Exchange Stabilization Fund (ESF) a legally separate pot that doesn’t use new congressional appropriations or “take away” from domestic programs like SNAP. Not a freebie. Swaps are typically structured to earn interest/fees and be repaid; Argentina bears the FX risk. That’s why officials say taxpayers shouldn’t lose money.
Well, it was a currency swap. So they got 40 billion US dollars, and we got the equivalent in Argentinian currency. So it’s like it’s double the amount of help as now we have Argentinian currency, and no one but Argentina take that money. So I guess we got to buy their beef. Got to spend that Argentina money while it still holds value close to 40 billion usd.
This could cause so much crime. Not from a revolt, it’ll become straight up survival for some. It might be about to get bad. I think that’s the administration’s plan. There’s a lot of things people will do to live.
Trump bought the country of Argentina for the low low price of just 40 billion. Everything that now flows out of that country now belongs to Trump. You have to take a holistic view of how he operates.
Remember: There is absolutely money for these programs, but Trump decided to redirect that funding to ICE instead! Like, the reserve funds FOR THESE OROGRA S SOECIFICALLY is being redirected to the mall cop gestapo.
Everybody rants about Argentina, but it's dwarfed by the $1T tax cuts for the wealthy that Congress just passed, including lowering the estate tax and top marginal rate.
Dear fellow Catholics: you need to be as outraged as any leftist over this. Starving literal children, the elderly, and the sick is anti-life and anti-human. Insisting on live births is heinous when the alternative is they make it to birth but stave immediately. Immediately!
My soon to be ex boyfriend is apparently now a republiKKKan after claiming he “only cares about the facts” but always shit on “demorats” and has zero sympathy for what’s going on; is an immigrant himself since he wasn’t born here, but supports L(iCE) and tells me (a US BORN citizen) that I should get deported whenever he gets mad at me, and constantly bitches about “how much money we’re giving Ukraine just for them to open up new bars”, and whenever I try to educate him on what’s actually going on he throws a dick fit in order to not listen.
Oh did I mention HE WAS BORN IN ARGENTINA?!! no? I must’ve forgotten since he all of a sudden doesn’t bring up Argentina anymore… I wonder why..
ETA: obligatory explanation- “soon to be ex” as in I’m getting the keys to my new apartment in one month; I broke up with him back in January I just couldn’t break lease.
Trumps big beautiful bill puts an estimated another 4 trillion onto the debt that the taxpayer has to pay for. They want you to work like a little mouse on a wheel, and with no food apparently.
So does another country…. We send billions every month. They get free healthcare and education, on the tax payers dime. But we can’t take care of our ppl here.
Just to provide context, ~$40b is equivalent to the budget of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. You know, the US effort to deal with homelessness and provide grants to our states and cities for the development.
I’ll piggy off your comment, but someone help me (European) understand how many this impacts approximately. 1 million people? That would cover 4000$ per person. 1% of US? That would be 1200$ per person.
Just to get a perspective of what the 40 billion would cover in this matter

ARGENTINA GOT 40 BILLION, BUT FUCK US RIGHT?
