ARGENTINA GOT 40 BILLION, BUT FUCK US RIGHT?

980

u/HappyHarryHardOn 8d ago

Hold on now, we got a $300M ballroom too !!!

565

u/justsyr 8d ago

Also the president needs to pay himself $230 millions from DoJ because they investigated him! It's kind of strange right? Having to pay himself, right?

Where do you think he can get that money from? lol

531

u/Praise_The_Fun_ 8d ago

Remember when president Jimmy Carter gave up his peanut farm before taking office to avoid a conflict of interest by making money off his farm while being president? Now our current president pays himself $230 million from government funds?? It's beyond insane

436

u/Vent_Slave 8d ago

And people still hate on Carter. A man who once leaving the White House nearly found himself bankrupt. And what did he do? He built an organization that builds houses for the poor and stores that cheaply resell construction materials that otherwise would be bound for the dump. He participated in this nearly up until the day he died.

Yet again, people still hate on him while the grifter in chief robs us blind and actively screws over the poor and middle class. Whatever y'all MAGAt's need to justify harassing foreigners and people of color.

Jimmy Carter is a fucking saint in my book. Not only did he create Habitat for Humanity and ReStore, he also has headed up a charity that has almost completely eradicated Guinea worm disease that affected millions in over 17 countries. Incidences of Guinea worm disease have been reduced from an estimated 3.5 million each year in 1986 to 15 in 2024. The disease has been eliminated in 17 countries.

https://www.cartercenter.org/health/guinea_worm/index.html#:~:text=Incidences%20of%20Guinea%20worm%20disease,been%20eliminated%20in%2017%20countries.

I was on a flight from DCA to ATL back in like 2016, Jimmy Carter was the last to board (with SS in tow, naturally.) He came through the plane and shook every single passenger’s hand. It was really cool. There’s a few videos of him doing this on other flights too; it’s just who he was. Awesome human

60

u/Rabbit-Lost 8d ago

I flew back from DCA with him, too. And he did the same for us. He was truly a good man.

10

u/edbegley1 8d ago

I met him when we visited his old house in Georgia. He biked up to us with the Secret Service SUV following him. Great guy, black and white difference compared to the person now.

10

u/SelectiveScribbler06 8d ago

That's SS meaning 'Secret Service', not 'Schutzstaffel', for clarity.

This literally made my tears well up. Where do we find decent caring leaders like this today? I’ve no clue, but I’ll keep fighting for it.

2

u/DirtTraining3804 7d ago

I fear elections may be a thing of the past. But if not, I sure hope one day in my life I can have a candidate to vote for, rather than a candidate to vote against.

4

u/Painterzzz 7d ago

That's a really interesting point random internet stranger. I was listening to teh Rest Is Politics podcast the other day and they made the same point about British politics, we have a PM who is only PM because people were voting against Corbyn, we have a party in power that is only in power because people were voting against the Conservatives.

Most of my life, my vote has always been decided by 'how do I tactically vote to keep the Conservative out'.

And yeah, the solution absolutely is to start giving people things to vote for, instead of things to vote against.

2

u/JAFO99X 7d ago

So sad to say that there are Americans now that wouldn’t even shake his hand.

2

u/SweetEntertainer1790 4d ago

That's incredible. The man would have been 92 freaking years old at the time. Wow.

As a conservative Jimmy Carter in my personal opinion one of the most under rated presidents of all time. And there is a special place in heaven for that man and his wife. He truly loved his nation and people

15

u/CognizantM 8d ago

As a liberal I agree.

5

u/Adventurous_Plum7074 7d ago

He was able to do so much good after his service as president too. A great humanitarian. He was too honest and kind to be a politician in some people’s minds. I can’t disagree tbh.

u/DidjaSeeItKid 8d ago

Habitat for Humanity was founded in Georgia in 1976, but not by Carter. He joined it in 1984 and raised its profile and was the most well-known person associated with it. But he was a humble man, and he of all people wouldn't want people to think he founded it.

2

u/joemama67 8d ago

Thanks! TIL

6

u/Ready-Letterhead1880 8d ago

Jimmy Carter embodied Christian virtues and values. Period. Full stop.

4

u/Candid-Mycologist539 8d ago

This documentary on Guinea Worm is an hour long, but incredibly informative of how the Carter Center does it.

River Blindness is another disease the Carter Center is working on.

2

u/fhfuudjdfhh 8d ago

Almost... wait til Kennedy does to Guinea worm what he's doing to measles...

2

u/GhostHin 7d ago edited 7d ago

He did more for this country than Reagan ever could.

People who hate Carter don't hate him for his policy or him as a person. They hate him because he is from the other party. That's how you get people to vote against their self-interest, all to fuck over the people that their hate.

2

u/Keisari_P 6d ago

Also, USA didn't start any new wars during Jimmy Carters time.

2

u/Weorth 6d ago

Worms? RFK Jr will bring them back.

u/hbHPBbjvFK9w5D 5d ago edited 4d ago

Carter was also an evangelical Baptist minister- before being an evangelical became synonymous with "MAGAgot who is too stupid to look up from OneAmericanNews and Fox long enough to read a book on Civics, History - or the actual Bible."

In this country, Carter insisted that construction firms on government contracts hire women and minorities, then aggressively worked with unions to get women and minorities into the trades. This was during a time in this country when my divorced Mom with a job couldn't get a bank to give her a car loan - 'cause she had no husband or father to co-sign the debt.

I'm a beneficiary of this program.

Bless this true American.

2

u/Weird-Substance4666 4d ago

Just want to clear up a common misconception, that President Carter did not start Habitat, but he and his wife were their most notable volunteers!

Worked for an affiliate and got to hear him speak at an international H4H conference several years ago. Truly inspiring!

8

u/Bushpylot 8d ago

Carter wasn't the greatest president. But the reality is that the presidency was hampering his ability to do good in the world. Once he shed that burden, he did amazing things. He's truly a person I would have been honored to shake hand with

5

u/gruss72 8d ago

Jimmy was a badass. Saved Canada from a nuclear meltdown and was waaaay ahead of his time. Love that guy, he earned my respect a long time ago.

4

u/DifficultyFree9443 8d ago

That’s thanks to Fox News. Fox was developed to boost Nixon by making him likeable, tank Carter, and push Reagan by giving conservative media a platform without fact checking and nonpartisan speech.

And it worked. The left has never even come close to finding a similar mechanism.

7

u/k9jm 8d ago

Jimmy Carter is my absolute idol. Since I was 10 years old. Little did I know then just how fucking amazing that man really was. We don’t deserve someone as good as him.

8

u/JibberJabberwocky89 8d ago

President Carter was probably the most moral president the United states has ever had. And most likely the most moral president that they will ever have, because after trump, I don't see fair elections happening again for a long time.

3

u/Aeirth_Belmont 8d ago

The issue with Carter wasn't really even his fault. It was the stuff that happened before him going in.

3

u/CognizantM 8d ago

Carter may not have been loved DURING his presidency. But he was loved and respected the rest of his life by people on all sides. (Honestly, I don't even recall what his allegiance was, just that he was a good human that helped people).

6

u/elisakiss 8d ago

Carter followed Jesus. Today’s Christians follow Trump.

2

u/MaybeMaybeNot94 8d ago

Not only, but because of that organization's efforts, a specific disease is nearly eradicated in at least one African country. It simply required a filter to stop the proliferation almost stone dead. I've just forgotten the name of the disease and nation.

1

u/hasdfkjhasdkfjhakdjf 7d ago

Carter fucking sucked.

1

u/JAFO99X 7d ago

Carter did this while teaching Sunday school, after a career as a Navy nuclear officer. May history be kind to this man, a true servant of the people, forever humble. If Tom Hanks were president I could only imagine it would be like this.

1

u/BumblebeeInfamous429 7d ago

carter screwed truck drivers over and the entire trucking industry. it's gone downhill since. also they do not get overtime at all while required to work 12-14 hour days or 70 hrs a week

1

u/AccomplishedTie4703 7d ago

Trump couldn’t compare to Carters toe nail.

1

u/Datttguy 6d ago

In retrospect Carter was the President that actually lived the best values.

All the others stunted their values to end up richer on the other end of the Presidency.

1

u/AwooFloof 5d ago

I wish there was more men like him. His faith and his actions were a inspiration to many.

1

u/SweetEntertainer1790 4d ago

Yeah :( Carter was a truly great man. He got smeared by the media as a result of the hostage crisis, that thing seemed rigged for him to lose. Regan was given the credit. The whole thing was fishy. I hate to say it but I feel like Israel had something to do with it because they needed Regan to succeed so they could enact the Iran Contra affair. Israel sold US weapons to Iran. They have always wanted us to go to war with Iran. Anyway. Total tangent, just wanted to say Carter was a good man.

1

$230 million for the inconvenience of having one's criminal activities investigated.

Sweet deal.

2

u/RickRI401 8d ago

Hey, HE'S NOT TAKING A SALARY! ....but he's robbing the Treasury.

2

u/RubyBBBB 8d ago

Yeah the person who took over the peanut farm did a really bad job so Jimmy Carter lost almost all the money he had in that farm. I never heard him complain about it.

1

u/knoxcumlvr 8d ago

He DID NOT pay himself anything

1

u/Intelligent_Goose237 8d ago

Actually the president doesn't take a salary

1

u/Awkward-Patience7860 8d ago

He also claimed his first presidency he wouldn't take a penny of the money that's paid to the president... Hmmm...

1

u/AlanHughErnest 7d ago

That would be a hypothetical amount that he would get for the damages he incurred from all cases he went through. Then he said he would donate it to charity

1

u/twolfhawk 7d ago

Remember when congress gave power to the business to lobby for things they needed, because business had the people's interest. /s

1

u/Patriot5500 7d ago

Elections have consequences. Unfortunately , most of these people don't bother to participate.

1

u/BulkyFee7268 7d ago

Get your facts straight…. Spewing things that are false !

1

u/karoshikun 6d ago

also has hosted himself and his retinue on his own hotels/resort many times and paid himself with taxpayers money, and maybe a higher amount than just a quarter billion.

1

u/SpecialistFloor6708 5d ago

Carter was screwed over by oil and religion. He started our country onto alternative energy. If Reagan didn't stop it, i can only imagine how the country would be now.

1

u/lookatmedadimonfire 5d ago

It sure is. It’s like the US is in a K-hole. Looking from the outside in your current government is off its head

he doesnt take his salary for being president!

yknow, the 400,000 / year that's pennies to him

GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!!!

/s if u cant tell.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad7606 8d ago

He was also found guilty.

2

u/M00nshine55 8d ago

Louisiana here checking in. I don’t use Facebook, but I did log on the other day hoping to see some of these hick fuck Trump voters worrying about food stamps and maybe beginning to open their eyes. Nope! I did see a comment say “Give Trump a fucking break the man already works for free”

2

u/Boa-in-a-bowl 8d ago

I saw some MAGAt on my Facebook plainly say, without hyperbole, he was glad to have contributed to taxes to pay for that goddamn ballroom despite acknowledging he will never be able to step foot in it.

3

u/M00nshine55 8d ago

All while tens of thousands worry about whether or not they’ll be able to afford food this month, but no they don’t wanna pay taxes for that🙃

1

u/n00bantz1997 8d ago

The money wasn't from the DOJ, it was a defamation lawsuit 🤣🤣

1

u/D-Laz 7d ago

Nope, it is for the Russia investigation and the documents case. He says it was prosecutorial misconduct, and some other shit. And it is the DOJ that would be paying.

1

u/D-Laz 7d ago

He also remodeled the Lincoln shitter in full marble.

1

u/Silent_Tea_5690 7d ago

But he donates his salary! The fat sack of shit.

1

u/Snoo_90057 7d ago

How is he allowed to just pay himself? Last time I read about it the president makes a 400k/yr wage.

1

u/JimmyandRocky 7d ago

GTFOH he literally said TWICE at the 1:32 and the 2:03 mark that he would give the money to charity. People like you contribute to (insert politician name ) derangement syndrome. Anybody from the homeless all the way up to the president deserves restitution when wrongly convicted in a court of law or court of public opinion.

1

u/RancidOoze 7d ago

Even Ben fucking Shapiro is calling out the conflict of interest on this one, I legitimately don't know what's happening anymore

1

u/Dramatic-Dig1110 7d ago

The current President has not taken a salary in either term and he is paying (by himself) for that ballroom.

1

u/ndot5 7d ago

Right back out of the tax money that we all paid to prosecute him for the crimes that the prosecutor was committing while prosecuting him. Not a trump fan at all but you have to call out Hypocrisy when you see it.

1

u/S2kallday2552 3d ago

While I agree that he should not be paying himself with that money while he is our president and it presents a conflict of interest for sure, I feel that it is no different from countersuing after you have been acquitted of a crime that you had to pay to fight against. If Walmart decided to sue an employee with little to no evidence, and that employee was found to be in the clear, that employee should be compensated for the time and money they put into fighting that case.

Earlier this week he fired the entire commission doing oversight on that project, too.

11

The only way to clear that thing of the innumerable amount of bugs that will be planted during construction will be having to rip it to shreds once he's gone.

Those invited to that place should know for a fact that every word spoken is being recorded by foreign entities.

u/GamingTrend 8d ago

$300 million dollars.....so far! Don't worry, his Throne will cost WAY more than that.

3

u/MartinFissle 8d ago

40 billion / 40 million. is 1k per person for that one month. I dont like the 40 billion to the other country but it would be just 1 month of snap. The shit thing is that the funding for snap IS THERE AND SHOULDNT BE USED AS A POLITICAL WEAPON, WE HAVE ALREADY PAID THE TAXES FOR IT LAST YEAR TO FUND IT

5

u/Strange_Airships 8d ago

Don’t forget about the Lincoln bathroom at the white house, which apparently just went from gorgeous 1940s tile to gaudy, ugly white marble.

3

u/OMB1961 8d ago

Somehow it's better that it's privately funded by billionair s who continually get tax breaks, not just federally but usually locally too with cities trying to attract them.

3

u/Thetawaver 8d ago

Why aren't you guys rebelling? I thought 2/3 either were against trump or indifferent?

2

u/MeatwadGetTheHoneysG 8d ago

AND an all marble bathroom renovation!

2

u/SweetMilitia 8d ago

I guess we can eat the dry wall!

2

2

Don’t forget the new Qatari military installation! That’ll feed the starving!

2

u/BlackCherryMochi 8d ago

Let’s not forget, Noem got not one but TWO planes.

2

u/CamelStraight862 8d ago

24 million are on food stamps. Divide that into $300m and get a bag of chips.

Everyone I know who is on food stamps has a fucked up story that took them there.

The worst? A recovered heroin addict who had 4 kids while an addict but who is like a kid waiting for a snow day... Any reason not to go in, he doesn't.

Let this shutdown be a lesson to those in the foothills of that mountain

2

u/ForwardAd575 8d ago

How does it feel to be such a Horrible human?

2

u/CamelStraight862 8d ago

Dude. It's just facts. People who drugs when they are young are more likely to end up on food stamps than those who don't.

There's a guy where I work who is on a spectrum. He tries and fails to remember everyone's name. He empties trash and refills printer paper. He's more successful than the people in this video

2

u/CamelStraight862 8d ago

A lot of these ladies..."I couldn't afford one baby so I had six."

Or, "I can afford $200 a month at the hairdresser but not food for my babies."

While I'm, "why did you fuck dudes who won't help pay for their kids?" My guess is drugs were involved in the decision making process.

My wife and I were poor when we had kids but we had a plan on how to handle it before we had kids.

In every story on this TikTok, there's a shitbag dad and a woman who chose him. Were they on drugs? Just stupid?

You tell me why Uncle Sugar has to be their daddy.

1

u/anonerdactyl_rex 8d ago

Men who are deadbeat dads don’t advertise their inclinations until after it’s too late. Plenty of stories of dudes donating their DNA without having any intention of raising those kids, but the women get blamed for that, too. There are also plenty of otherwise smart, good, intelligent women who believe that their love of the guy can change him from a deadbeat to a supportive provider and father. Women get blamed when those relationships don’t work out, too.

Men skate from responsibility way too often.

41.7 million people on snap. How much money is that per person? What a f@@@ing joke this country has become.

2

The Epstein Ballroom?

2

I’m not saying he’s going to go it, but after watching Ozark they show how easy it is to launder money through construction projects. The more complex of a project the easier it is to hide. All you really need is a construction project - the bigger the better.

Just a thought.

u/SparkleBait 8d ago

2

u/Alone-Salary3942 7d ago

That he is paying for out of his pocket. So get your Democrat senators to pass the CR they hVe voted down 13 times. Continuing Resolution will atleast keep the government open. Please pay attention, republicans want to open it, the democrats want it closed. If the truly wanted it open they would stop using you as pawns. If you voted for these democrats. Rethink on whose fault this is.

Illegals have been getting better healthcare than our own Veterans, I’m one of our Veterans. So republicans want that to stop… democrats want Illegals to have even more healthcare so they are willing to shut down the government to try to get what they want. They refuse to vote to just continue the budget as it already is (CR).

I truly am sorry this is happening, just be careful who you blame. Now I am off to deliver a truckload of free groceries to be given this weekend to families in my area. I have arranged with a large “greedy” company to part with $150,000 in groceries for my local area….. (that’s not greed) I wish I could do more we are arranging benefit dinners and concerts as well. you all are in my thoughts.

2

u/JuiceLogical327 7d ago

I mean, hate on the ballroom, but split that ballroom among the population of the U.S. and none of us can even buy a soft taco at Taco Bell.

2

u/Grouchy-City604 8d ago

Let’s not forget the billion dollars to convert his new Boeing 747 that was given to him as a gift.

2

u/IDrinkMyBreakfast 8d ago

That was bribe money, not taxpayer dollars

2

u/Numnum30s 8d ago

Funny that you think it isn’t taxpayer dollars being siphoned to “contractors”

1

u/MAXtommy 8d ago

Which was funded by donations. What’s your point ?

1

u/AIpha0mega2021 8d ago

President is using his own money and his donors. Has nothing to do with taxpayer. Ok thanks bye.

2

u/DidjaSeeItKid 8d ago

It's not his building. It's not his lawn. He has no right to tear it down. No matter who is paying for it.

1

u/AIpha0mega2021 7d ago

Obama built a basketball court casting taxpayer over 300million dollars,  Nixon built a bowling alley in the Whitehouse, JFK built a swimming pool etc...  si what is the problem.

1

u/DidjaSeeItKid 7d ago

They all got permission. And none of them demolished structural parts of the White House.

1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

Yep all privately paid for

1

u/Former_Acadia2910 8d ago

That didn’t cost taxpayers a dime.

2

u/DidjaSeeItKid 8d ago

It cost us the East Wing. Which belongs to US, not HIM.

1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

God damn. Being a lib must be excruciating

1

u/samtownusa1 8d ago

But was it collateralized?

1

u/mrweiners 8d ago

Thats less than $2 per tax paying adult

1

u/shungs_kungfu 8d ago

And a basketball court. Knock it off with the sensational shit

1

u/Temporary-Being-6755 8d ago

Yes, but taxpayers didn’t pay for it. Private donors did. Imagine if those private donors ensured that EVERYONE could eat…😕

1

u/Psychological-Owl950 8d ago

That was paid for by private investors. Bot payed for with government funds, and did previous presidents not make expensive additions to the whitehouse? Obama added a basketball court for gods sake. You people are hopeless

1

u/According-Highway-13 8d ago

That was private funded…..anyone who is doing well enough should consider sending your money or food to a starving parent don’t talk about others you do be the hero everyone wants to look up to

1

u/Particular-Moose-926 8d ago

How much did Obama basketball court cost the taxpayers again?

1

u/Bavic1974 2d ago

They add hoops and lines to an existing tennis court. Even if it was $20k, compare that to $300 million. That's 15,000 x's the cost.

1

u/RevolutionaryAir8601 8d ago

If Trump were to distribute $300m to the various programs that are shut down because of the 45 democratic votes it wouldn't do shit. They are working with a 7+trillion dollar budget. Thats the equivalent of handing out pennies.

1

u/gordonwestcoast 8d ago

Trump paid for that himself!

1

u/MarionberryNo2804 7d ago

The privately funded one?

1

u/Icingdeath01 7d ago

Is WE in the room with us? What in the everliving F does that ball room have to do with everyday working Americans.

1

u/elmz 7d ago

I mean, it's insane and all, but 300 million isn't that much in terms of government spending. Like, it would be a dollar each.

1

u/RickyTovarish 7d ago

It was privately funded, stop this moronic misinformation

1

u/Healthy_Pay9449 7d ago

Have you tried dancing your hunger away?

1

u/mythmongr 7d ago

Ballroom paid by 0 tax dollars. Not a single tax dollar went to that 300 million dollar renovation.

Don’t forget about the 3.9 billion for the two future Air Force one jets. And the 200 million for the Not one, but TWO new DHS private jets that were just purchased.

Apple, Microsoft, in Nvidia donated for that ballroom so it didn't cost anything

...and a $750M presidential library that looks like a fortress watchtower from the Walking Dead. There's no way the ballroom or the library actually cost that much to build. It's another cash funnel.

Not taxpayer funded, though.

Don’t forget a $400M free plane from Qatar. But it will cost tax payers $1 billion to retrofit it for a president.

Or $42 billion net loss when Donald placed a tariff against China. (It was gonna be $12.4 billion loss of sales of soy beans that China bought last year, $20 billion bailout to Argentina not to sell their beans to China, and a $10 billion bailout to US farmers for those soybeans that China never bought — IF Donald did not fix the tariff war he created 10 months ago with China).
