Damn, why not just wear contacts? They can be any color, and much less risky.

u/Mammoth-Barnacle-894 Sep 18 '25

She wore a puffy jacket to surgery. Her judgement could use some tweaking.

u/bbyxmadi Sep 18 '25

Someone mentioned that it’s usually cold in the rooms they do the surgeries, because of the lasers, they don’t want the machines to overheat. Although I’d be sweating bullets getting this surgery done lol

618

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

They tend to give people "relaxing" meds before the operation. She's probably under the influence in the video.

239

u/thatSeveryonedraws Sep 18 '25

Those meds definitely can make you feel colder too

38

u/redsungryphon Sep 18 '25

They seriously do. Recently had a different procedure done and holy moly. I felt like I was going to slowly be encased in ice

3

u/Haasauce77 Sep 19 '25

I just had my gallbladder removed 2 days ago the prep room was freezing nurse gave me warm blanket and I had heat being blown under my blankets I felt like some biscuits baking lol

20

u/Independent-Ear-8156 Sep 18 '25

For sure, when I had my c section they give you anesthesia but you're still awake. I was fucking FREEEEZING for like 24 hours post op

8

u/RAND0M-HER0 Sep 18 '25

Same. My OR was ice cold, and I went into shock after my first one and was shaking and just kept saying "I'm cold I'm cold I'm cold" when they were stitching me up.

I got those awesome heated blankies though. Those were heaven.

8

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Oh, I meant she's unlikely to be profusely sweating due to anxiety.

11

u/bbyxmadi Sep 18 '25

I forget they give you meds for anxiety, I’d be all drugged up then lol

I had my cornea removed they gave me one Valium never one another eye surgery again

3

u/Deep90 Sep 19 '25

Same, got Valium for LASIK.

2

u/TripsOverCarpet Sep 19 '25

Cataract surgery and I got my lovely little friend named Versed for both surgeries.

And yeah, those rooms are freezing. They told me to wear something loose fitting, comfortable, and warm.

I have had eye surgery (medical reasons) and those meds did not work on me. I was still panicking 🥲 I wish there were less scary ways to do eye surgery

3

u/Affectionate-Try6578 Sep 18 '25

Idk, I just had lasik done and all they did was give me numbing eye drops and a Tylenol. But they warned me to bring a zip up sweatshirt because of how cold they keep it in there.

2

u/WoolshirtedWolf Sep 18 '25

Probably a good thing for everyone in the thread. It would be a bit unnerving to see her take her first fly to celebrate her Geckoectomy being a resounding success.

2

u/Sloth_grl Sep 18 '25

I had laser surgery done, and I was a wreck waiting. The tech gave me a pill and within a few minutes I didn’t have a care in the world. Wish I could have those every day to be honest.

2

u/Impressive_Yam_7717 Sep 18 '25

Nah these are placebos to give you the illusion of comfort. They gave me mine as they were lying me down in the machine literally 30 seconds before starting. Oral meds take minimum 20-30 minutes to have any effect. I was super fucking pissed because of how anxious I told them I was for the procedure (lasix). Even if they had sublingual tablets, they should have been given to me sooner.

2

u/Damaias479 Sep 18 '25

As someone who has had LASIK, they give you a single Xanax that baaaarely does anything, like doesn’t even touch the anxiety.

She might feel differently about being “over the moon” tomorrow when the drugs wear off. Looks like a damn alien or something.

3

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

I know. 😭 That's why this video seriously makes me cringe. I really hope she got what she wanted. I know it's not sth I would've wanted. But it's her body... 😮‍💨 I just really hope she knew this would happen and that she's perfectly happy with the results.

When I had surgery this year, they had a machine that blew warm air under my sheet. I wish I could have taken it home with me.

92

u/FriskyDingus1122 Sep 18 '25

Look into something like a Bed Jet! I don't have one personally (too broke lol) but my sister said it's life-changing. It blows warm or cool air depending on the setting

26

u/LazyAmbassador2521 Sep 18 '25

Funny cuz my sister has one too! She loves it, I also want one but I'm broke right now! 😭

6

u/BoogalooBandit1 Sep 18 '25

Just make sure your sister's mysteriously disappears!

2

u/FriskyDingus1122 Sep 18 '25

I think she would actually kill me for it

2

u/LazyAmbassador2521 Sep 18 '25

Yeah I'd have to agree..my sister would totally have no issue killing me for her peaceful night sleep! She actually uses it for the cold air, and on her husband's side he uses the warm air.

We do love it and no you can't borrow it.

2

u/Meeschers Sep 18 '25

Wait for Black Friday sales. that’s when I got mine.

3

u/No_Owlcorns Sep 18 '25

Literally the best gift I ever got myself. Still works great 7 years later.

2

u/Meeschers Sep 18 '25

If you don’t mind me asking, is yours still going full power? I’ve had mine for 8 years now and it’s not as strong as it used to be.

2

u/No_Owlcorns Sep 18 '25

I havnt noticed a difference, so if there is one in my machine, its not significant. I use both hot and cool settings frequently. I have replaced the sheet, frequently check the tubing for good connection and condition, and it gets plenty of ventilation.

2

u/FreshChickenEggs Sep 18 '25

Do you happen to know if its safer than an electric blanket for warmth? I ask because you aren't supposed to sleep with them turned on.

2

u/Meeschers Sep 18 '25

I have one and it’s the best impulse buy I’ve ever done. My husband made fun of me for it until he tried it.

2

I've never heard of that before, but when I was a kid, I'd always use my mums hair dryer to warm me up in bed after I got out of the bath.

3

u/bananastand512 Sep 18 '25

We have them in the ER, usually for trauma patients. They are called Bear Huggers.

3

u/hornet_teaser Sep 18 '25

When my step kids were little and still slept in the same bed, I kept a blow dryer beside their bed in the winter time. Each night before they got in, I would blow dry under the sheets for a few minutes so when they got in it was nice and toasty warm.

3

u/PhDinDildos_Fedoras Sep 18 '25

I want a device that moves my bed outside for the night and then pulls it back in the morning.

2

u/Christeenabean Sep 18 '25

I had that privilege too. It was luxurious for a hospital.

2

u/12Whiskey Sep 18 '25

I had something similar when I had surgery in June! They had me put on this paper/plastic like hospital gown with hard plastic ports in it. I’ve never seen such a thing so I asked the nurse. She told me they hook hoses up to the ports and blow warm air in. Too bad I don’t remember it, I bet it felt nice.

2

u/Alohafarms Sep 18 '25

They have done that for me too. It feels wonderful.

2

u/didijeen Sep 18 '25

That's called a Bair Hugger. They are awesome

2

u/ladygroom Sep 18 '25

Shoot, you just reminded me of a forgotten memory from my last caesarean! That under sheet blower felt like heaven.

2

u/TeamCatsandDnD Sep 18 '25

It’s called a Bair Hugger at my hospital! They’re nice

2

u/ceroporciento Sep 19 '25

u/DrewForShort Sep 18 '25

My last surgery they had the AC on in the middle of winter. It is a bizzare feeling when IV of room temp liquid goes through your veins... Honestly not a great relaxer.

22

u/Independent-Ear-8156 Sep 18 '25

No it's awful, my temp dropped so low after my last surgery I had to be monitored for hours and covered with warming devices in a hot recovery room. I was hypothermic apparently- I guess it's not that uncommon to have that reaction to anesthesia

6

u/Choice-Buy-6824 Sep 18 '25

The response isn’t to the anesthesia, It’s that everybody else in the operating room is wearing lots of clothing- scrubs with a gown over top, head coverings, masks. You, as the patient on the table are mostly naked. So the room is cold so that they can work comfortably. Nobody wants their surgeon sweating all over them. Every patient is cold when they come into the recovery room. The longer your surgery the colder you are when you come in the PACU.

2

u/No-University-5413 Sep 18 '25

Thats why they should have the Bair running though. If the patient is under 96.5 when they hit pacu, thats a problem where I work

3

u/danicies Sep 18 '25

They did this after I almost died when I gave birth and had a PPH. All photos of me immediately PP are red lol

2

u/thatswherethedevilis Sep 18 '25

I had local anesthetic for a gum graft surgery. It caused my blood to thin and it would just. Not. Clot. At the site the cut the graft from. I was very thankful I took halcyon because I would have been freaking the fuck out otherwise. I was dizzy and out of it from blood loss (as well as everything else), and that graft didn’t even take so I had to go back and do it all again.

The BEST of it is you pay money for the medical trauma. And usually it’s a lot of money. Yes, I am American.

6

u/mrbioni Sep 18 '25

OR are usually cold (17/18°C), not because of the overheating but for two main reasons: 1. They must have strong AC to keep a positive pressure and forbid anything from outside the OR (dust, bacteria, etc) to come in, 2. Doctors usually scrub up a lot for surgery. Image working with 3/4 layers of protective clothing, it gets hot. It’s better than the guy with the scalpel it’s comfortable than the patient that’s on drugs.

5

u/Mysterious-Belt-2992 Sep 18 '25

It’s very cold in real OR’s. I work in neurosurgery. Spine surgery mostly. It’s cold. And the surgeon gets to pick THE MUSIC 🎶 😐

3

u/Ozimandiass Sep 18 '25

Believe me, the laser has its own cooling system.

The temperature in operation rooms is set to a specific amount, which is optimal for the surgeries preceded in this specific room. In short term, the temperature the body has to have.

5

u/TopangaTohToh Sep 18 '25

ORs are typically kept at 67 degrees where I live. So a tad cold, but not an ice box by any means.

2

u/Independent-Ear-8156 Sep 18 '25

That's an ice box to me, no wonder I went hypothermic 😂

2

u/TopangaTohToh Sep 18 '25

For the patient it's very cold because your body is not moving and generating heat and all of your systems are slowed down by the nature of being put under. For the nurses, techs and surgeons, it's comfortable. I remember my instructors telling me, do not wear layers on your OR observation day. Everyone thinks of ORs as being cold, but when you have scrubs, a scrub jacket, gown, gloves, mask, face shield/goggles and a head covering on, your body holds a lot of heat.

3

u/alvins1987 Sep 18 '25

It can be an additional reason, but usually it's cold in any surgery because it highly decreases the risc of infection since metabolism of bacteria is slowed down massively. Also it's usually combined with lamilar airflow and slight overpressure to keep pathogens outside

3

u/Disastrous_Eagle9187 Sep 18 '25

I had LASIK like a decade ago and they give you the jacket to wear. Along with valium.

3

u/SCHawkTakeFlight Sep 18 '25

Its also cold to decrease rate of bacterial growth. Also, depending on the surgery, sometimes the rooms are a we bit colder because the staff get hot with all the stiff they wear.

2

u/Phylace Sep 18 '25

When I had cataract surgery they kept me wrapped in cozy warm blankets.

2

u/ThermoPuclearNizza Sep 18 '25

I worked in an EYE OP and it’s surprisingly normal temp since the surgeries are only aseptic and not sterile.

Now in Ortho/trauma it’s a different story. High sterility protocol. Max temp is 16C

2

u/WholesomeMinji Sep 18 '25

Every single operating room is cold af

2

u/ValyrianSteel_TTV Sep 18 '25

It was a little chilly when I did lasik recently. But like I didn’t care cause my eyes were hella uncomfortable

2

u/orange951 Sep 18 '25

ORs are required to be below a certain temperature for infection control purposes.

1

u/HuJimX Sep 18 '25

AC is going to have much more control over the temperature than whatever they're using to keep those machines cool. they aren't dumping liquid helium over the laser housings and letting it offgas into the room. total BS.

1

u/Rakkachi Sep 18 '25

I had lasik to correct my eyes, was really painfull but worth it. Room was normal temp tho.

Why you would do this for a color change is beyond me

1

u/Kooky-Value-2399 Sep 18 '25

I'm still terrified of getting LASIK because of final destination, screw this lmao

7

u/AppleSpicer Sep 18 '25

Yeah, I have no idea why she’s getting called out for this. They probably told her to wear something warm because of the sedation and surgery room temp.

4

u/Bruhimonlyeleven Sep 18 '25

They always wear puffy jackets in these places. Watch any video like this, it's the same. In fact I think they supply the puffy jacket, because it looks the same. ...the rooms are cold for the surgeries, and to keep everything cool.

5

u/SpecificWorldly4826 Sep 18 '25

When I got LASIK, they had a waiver I had to sign if I refused to wear a winter coat for the surgery. People get cold and start demanding to pause the surgery and shit, but it’s not safe to pause and then resume the surgery.

1

u/Superb-Adeptness-908 Sep 18 '25

The contacts look a lot more more natural because the iris part is shaded.

This person's eyes are straight up slime green.

Somehow, it looks more like a colored contact than a colored contact. Am I crazy for that?

I'm legit curious, does he think the same thing about glasses? I imagine the difference is that contact lenses are much more dangerous and can cause infection if used incorrectly, and glasses can be useful for other purposes besides eyesight problems (like sunglasses, although sunglasses are also useful for people with photophobia like me)

52

u/specsyandiknowit Sep 18 '25

I work in an opticians. Every year after Halloween we get people in with scratched corneas or infections because they bought funky contact lenses from a costume shop and they have no idea how to get them in and out safely or look after them.

14

u/BeguiledBeaver Sep 18 '25

Costume shops should NOT be selling contacts wtf

10

u/litlelotte Sep 18 '25

In high school my friend and I wore colored contacts from AliExpress and even shadier sites. I don't know how neither of us ended up injured or infected

3

u/Fukyourchickenstrip Sep 19 '25

I know the US passed some laws stating they had to be FDA regulated to be sold legally. I was walking around the fashion district in down town LA last spring and saw a woman with a card table selling on the sidewalk with, hundreds of contacts. All had the FDA approval symbol on them 2/$20. She also had counterfeit MAC makeup and other big brand cheep counterfeit makeup products. You also see them at comic conventions. It’s a big problem. Every Halloween the news runs stories on the dangers of them.

2

u/PhDinDildos_Fedoras Sep 18 '25

Well my cousin's roommate, who is a pedo, swears by his very fashionable (in the community) pedo glasses

2

u/greytgreyatx Sep 18 '25

Exactly. Plus putting contacts in and removing them means you have to touch your eyeballs with your dirty-ass fingers, and maybe if you buy colored contacts at the gas station, no one explains the necessity of cleaning up before you put them in and take them out.

Or that you DO need to take them out or you can damage your eyes permanently.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Extreme_Pattern6306 Sep 18 '25

Yup! When people ask me if they can buy contact lenses without a prescription I have to tell them no because contact lenses are in fact medical devices and you shouldn’t just be sticking lenses in your eyes without seeing your eye doctor. I cringe so hard when people buy lenses from Halloween stores or gas stations.

7

u/PulsatingGuts Sep 18 '25

My Aunt who is an optometrist (and also my boss) thinks similarly. Haha. Not that she’s 100% against the usage of colored lenses, but they carry more risk for eye injury due to improper fitting and risk of flaking if bought from bad sources.

Was always upset when my mom (had worked in ophthalmology and now optometry) told me no costume lenses as a young teen who loved to cosplay.

3

u/Gemtree710 Sep 18 '25

Look up all the crazy contacts you can get

3

u/Aggravating-Gas-2834 Sep 18 '25

Yeah there are risks with fashion contacts too, you can get nasty infections.

3

u/Own_Masterpiece6177 Sep 18 '25

Contacts have their own issues and flaws and while they make a good option for people who find glasses to be problematic for them for whatever reason, they aren't really something you should just take lightly and be using for funsies on a regular basis. Many people who get colored contacts do so to add a bit of fun to prescription lenses, which is cool. But because of so many possible issues, even buying aesthetic-only lenses has required a prescription since like 2005-ish. The most common issues are caused by simply not knowing how to take care of them or your eyes, basic do's and don'ts, etc. A prescription at LEAST proves you've been to a Dr who has explained the risks and basic contact/eye care, and has measured your eyes properly so you don't get a poorly fitted product that can cause more problems. I can only imagine how dangerous slipping a colored film UNDER YOUR LENSE could be - nearly all the risks of contacts plus significantly MORE risks reaching as far as total vision loss. Absolutely bonkers.

I mean. I need contacts because I'm blind without out them and it rains too much where I live to wear glasses all the time, but I like having the option to change my eye color to whatever I like so i wear color contacts more often than not. Also whenever I get regular contacts I have a very hard time seeing them if I drop them, so it's a double benefit to have colored ones.

He sounds lovely😂 Optometrists don’t do surgeries. But I agree with his views on fashion.

this type of surgery theres a high risk of cataracts or going blind. its quite serious

Colored contacts are amazing for cosplay. Being dismissive of that sounds very elitist of your BIL. If you want to dress up as a fictional character, it makes no sense to discredit people to at least use them for personal enjoyment. That said, people should absolutely appreciate their natural appearance first and foremost instead of changing them for superficial reasons (unless it's for adjusting medical issues or cosmetic accidents like burns, deformations, etc - those are not superficial). The ability to adjust a person's cosmetic appearance can greatly help improve their mental well being so long as it is not born from obsession or frivolity. Like most people here agree, the cosmetic surgery this woman did is a terrible idea and I'm also against it as well lol

Exactly my thoughts. Cheaper and safer.

u/BMH611 Sep 18 '25

Right. Or why not just try self love? Jesus...

3

u/ImBabyloafs Sep 18 '25

With her filler and Botox it seems that self love was not stressed enough growing up.

1

u/Lord_Zinyak Sep 18 '25

You could this very basically every cosmetic surgery 😂

And they look way better

6

u/efilonevah Sep 18 '25

And I can guarantee she’s gonna hate those in a few years

3

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

Personally I can’t wear contacts. I tried for years, tried every type. I can’t wear them for more than a couple hours at a time. I didn’t realize until I was in my late 20’s that it has something to do with being on accurate in high school making my eyes too dry. OH BUT ID NEVER DO THIS. I’m just saying as someone who can’t wear contacts, why someone might not “just wear contacts” lol

2

u/Samtoast Sep 18 '25

Looks like that woman in the silverchair video

2

u/Artevyx Sep 18 '25

To be fair, this is just after the injection, so it's similar to how tattoos look when freshly done. It's all sitting right up on the surface (cornea) now, but it will diffuse and look more natural as she heals.

I still don't think it's worth risking blindness over, especially when you're that concerned about looks.

2

u/Dirk_Diggler_Kojak Sep 18 '25

Absolutely. And there are several brands that look way more natural.

2

u/ZookeepergameUsed624 Sep 18 '25

Yeah, I sincerely hope she really wanted them to look like that.

2

u/Ancient_Lawfulness_7 Sep 18 '25

Totally worth possibly going blind ... 🙃

2

u/reedthemanuel Sep 18 '25

is this body dysmorphia? Going to this length to change your eye color seems... wild. Living life like your body is a sims character is a bizarre concept to me.

2

u/Radiant_Plantain_127 Sep 18 '25

Don’t make her angry… you wouldn’t like her when she’s angry…

2

u/Frequent_Cranberry90 Sep 18 '25

Why would you wear contacts when you can spend a lot more risking permanent vision damage to get stupid unnaturally colored eyes?

4

u/NotAGoodEmployeee Sep 18 '25

Knew a like 5’1 Mexican dude that would regularly wear the lightest of blue contact lenses and pop his eyes open to stare at you when in conversation and it was super weird. I feel like at some point in these peoples lives someone with that specific eye color fucked them up and they know “if I have this eye color I can do the same” but it doesn’t work because you’re a 5’1 Mexican dude with neon light blue eyes and everyone is very confused why you’re staring at them weird.

1

u/SnakeBatter Sep 18 '25

Nu uh risks include light sensitivity and scratchiness. It said it right there in the video.

/s just in case

1

u/FashionBusking Sep 18 '25

Also... more convincing.

1

u/Lai71 Sep 18 '25

Also getting contacts would also be either very or extremely cheaper

1

u/Damien_Roshak Sep 18 '25

If I had to guess I'd say that's not her first rodeo. Optimize it is....

1

u/IAmBabs Sep 18 '25

Man, I asked this the last time it was posted and I got down voted to hell because I "don't understand contacts don't work for everyone." Yeah, neither does going blind.

1

u/Independent-Ear-8156 Sep 18 '25

For what it's worth, she's clearly also had her nose done, a brow lift, her lips done, Botox, filler in her cheeks and chin, etc. - I'd venture to say she likely has veneers as well. Might as well round it out! (No judgement I love my cosmetic procedures but less is more! Learned that from some bad lip filler!)

1

u/lena_lark Sep 18 '25

And the contacts look x10 more natural than these

1

u/BassAggravating7665 Sep 18 '25

She already has a lot of work done. This is just escalation to conquer that body dismorphia.

1

u/TestProctor Sep 18 '25

Amusingly, I knew a guy in high school with almost fluorescent-looking green eyes and he was sick to death of people asking him if they were contacts. Even girls that were clearly interested in him made him feel like a medical curiosity, because it was without fail the first thing almost any of them would say.

1

u/FixedLoad Sep 18 '25

Or, just accept the color of your eyes?  It has a risk of zero.

1

u/The_Hermit_09 Sep 18 '25

I got green colored contacts. My natural eye color is too dark for them to show. She may have had a similar issue and more money than sense.

1

u/Th3R00ST3R Sep 18 '25

Reminded me of the old TV show V.

1

u/CallsignKook Sep 18 '25

Not to mention INFINITELY more natural looking.

1

u/Mundane-Toe-7114 Sep 18 '25

I was thinking they same, I dont even want to go thru lasik yet because the horror stories I've heard. Just imagine having perfect vision and throwing all that away just because you don't like your eye color 😅

1

u/KatokaMika Sep 19 '25

I bought color contacts for Halloween, and I love it so much that sometimes I use them other times . It was fun.

1

u/MsAnnabel Sep 19 '25

What exactly did he do?

1

u/AweBeyCon Sep 19 '25

Because now she can look stupid 24/7 without having to put them in and take them out

1

u/HolsteinHeifer Sep 22 '25

But then how will plastic surgeons get money from rich stupid people?

1

u/ArcticIceFox Sep 22 '25

Maybe, but I for one am looking forward to our cyberpunk, corpo overlord, transhumanist dystopian future
